Hi Gary Lee, Jaws 18 & Jaws 2018 are 2 different versions of Jaws, Jaws 2018 being the most recent of the 2. You said, What version number should I see if I have the latest jaws 2018 installed? See where? Are you trying to determine which version of Jaws you have running? Take care. Mike. Sent from my iBarstool. Arguing with a woman is like reading a software license agreement. Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws version confusion
JAWS 18 is the major version behind JAWS 2018. You will need to pay for, or use your SMA to upgrade just as you did from 17 or whatever previous version you used to 18. To see your build number, go to the JAWS window and press DOWN ARROW. You will be able to see if there is a new build of 18 available by going to Help > Check for Updates ... Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws version confusion
JAWS 2018 is not considered an update to JAWS 18. It's starts all over, and you need to install it separately from JAWS 18. You can do this with the 2018 disc or by updating from the VFO website. If you install from the CD, you'll need to update the way you do with JAWS 18, except you'll use the JAWS 2018 menu system, or else (again) by going to the website -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Gary Lee Sent: Friday, January 19, 2018 6:55 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws version confusion I understand how to get the version. what I have is jaws 18.0.4534.400 I have installed all updates that jaws has told me about. also received a jaws 2018 cd. just wondering if the updates I installed covered that. > On Jan 19, 2018, at 3:18 PM, Gary Lee wrote: > > What version number should I see if I have the latest jaws 2018 installed? > I see jaws 18, but can’t get to the version right now. > > thanks for the help. > > > For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: > http://www.jaws-users.com/help/ For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/ For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/

Each year, VFO releases a new version of JAWS with significant improvements, or to use its word, enhancements. However, between user reports of problems and ever-evolving technology, VFO must keep updating. Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws version confusion
Respected friends, I have red 5 emails regarding JAWS version confusion. The matter of fact is that the latest version of JAWS 2018 is not on the main page of freedomscientific’s main page. For those of you who are saying that they are using the latest version of JAWS 2018, They should check if they are using JAWS 2018.1712.54 which was released on January 4th 2018? The latest version of JAWS 2018 which is available on the main page of freedomscientific’s main page is JAWS 2018.1712.10 which was released on December 12th 2017. If you find out that you are using different version of JAWS 2018.1712.54 and if you are encountering the problem in using windows 10 mail app, then do the following things. 1. Press INSERT+J to open the JAWS menu. 2. Select Help > About and press ENTER. 3. Navigate to “Special Update Code” and press ENTER. 4. Type in the following access code: 957395 5. Press Enter. 6. Navigate to the “OK” button and press ENTER. 7. Restart JAWS 2018. 8. Press INSERT+J to open the JAWS menu. 9. Select Help > Check for Updates. 10. When the “JAWS updates” dialog opens, press the SPACEBAR to select the JAWS 2018.1712.54 update. 11. Navigate to the “Install” button and press ENTER to perform the update. Remember one thing if you have repaired your JAWS 2018, then it will not update and you will have to download the full version of JAWS 2018.1712.54. Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws version confusion
This is incorrect! There is a big difference between and update, and an upgrade. An update will have the same version number at the beginning, such as Jaws 18, and upgrade will have a completely new number such as Jaws2018. Updates to a particular version of Jaws are at no cost to the user, since they tend to correct issues in that version. however, upgrades do count against an SMA, since they introduce a new version of the software typically with new features. - Original Message - From: "Justin Williams" To: Sent: Saturday, January 20, 2018 8:57 AM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws version confusion JAWS 2018 is the updated version of JAWS 18. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of sandy Sent: Saturday, January 20, 2018 8:19 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws version confusion please folks, please explain to someone who isn't as tech savy as the majority of you, why there needs to be more than 1 jaws version per jaws number? -Original Message- From: Dave...Oregonian Sent: Saturday, January 20, 2018 12:08 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws version confusion Gary, You asked: "...I have installed all updates that jaws has told me about. also received a jaws 2018 cd. just wondering if the updates I installed covered that." Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws version confusion
NO need to be quite so cynical, Dave!! Each version (as opposed to update) does introduce a new feature of some kind. For example, 2018 dramatically improves the installation process, gives greater range for OCR, and so on. That said, JAWS 2018 doesn't work as well for me with IE11 and Outlook 2010, and so I'm constantly switching between 2018 and the prior version 18. Dave, I know you often go back as far as JAWS 16. Are there always good, convincing reasons for an annual new version, other than ensuring VFO has a nice revenue stream? Debatable. But I do have the sense that many improvements occur behind the scenes as its software engineers adapt to a changing Web. So by staying up to date with our SMAs, we're probably paying for adjustments about which we know little or nothing. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Dave...Oregonian Sent: Saturday, January 20, 2018 2:58 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws version confusion They are just fixing bugs they created, and creating other new bugs.
