[JBoss-dev] [JBoss JIRA] Commented: (JBAS-32) Exception is thrown when removing entity with null/invalid CMR value

2004-12-08 Thread Alex Loubyansky (JIRA)

Alex Loubyansky commented on JBAS-32:
-

If this is the case, how do I make CMR work for child 4?

Either set the foreign key to null or create a parent with pk 3.

I was thinking the fk-constraint tag in the DD tells the container to check
data integrity for all operations (i.e. insert, update and delete).

fk-constraint tag is used only for database schema generation, i.e. it
indicates whether the foreign key constraint should be created when JBossCMP
creates tables.

Why not the container just removes child 4 when there is no cascade-delete
 requirement?

Because before removal, the instance should be removed from all the container
managed relationships it participates in. The indicator of existing
relationship is non-null foreign key value.

Exception is thrown when removing entity with null/invalid CMR value

  Key: JBAS-32
  URL: http://jira.jboss.com/jira/browse/JBAS-32
  Project: JBoss Application Server
 Type: Bug
   Components: CMP service
 Versions: JBossAS-4.0.0 Final, JBossAS-3.2.6 Final
 Reporter: Sonnel Pun
 Assignee: Scott M Stark

Let's look at the following example.
 T_Parent
 ==
 (pk)
 --
   1
   2
 T_Child
 ==
 (pk) (fk)
 --
   1 1
   2 1
   3 null
   4 3
Let say, table T_Child and T_Parent have a 1-M relationship.
This relationship is modelled using CMR such that, no fk constraint and
 cascade
delete is required. It is fine when removing the record 1 and 2 from T_Child
 but
when removing records 3 and 4, exception is thrown.

[JBoss-dev] [AOP on JBoss (Aspects/JBoss)] - Re: AOP metrics ex. doesn't work after redeploy :(

2004-12-08 Thread peter fouquet
Hi,
yesterday i had the same problem with the nullpointer exception in my example
after redeploy my application.
Now my interceptors are not executing after redeploy my application. I must
restart the server after each change.
I'm using jboss 4.0.1RC2 and precompile my application with the aop ant task.
Thanks for help
Peter

Since post editing is disabled i have some infos to provide for better
understanding.

We use jdk 1.5 and aop final 1.0.0. The classes are precompiled(aop'ed) and
then copied into the deploy folder as an *.ear.

thx for help

I'm pretty sure we fixed all the redeployment problems in current CVS by
redesigning how a class binds to its aspects. I'll try to incorporate your
scenario into the testsuite.

Thanks for your patience,

Summary: CMP stores empty fields as spaces in Sybase

Initial Comment:
Platform: Linux, Solaris, WindowsXP
JBoss 3.2.6
DB: Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise 12.5 (on Solaris)
JDK1.4.2_06

When cmp-field is left empty in CMPBean, JBoss
generates SQL for insert with empty string:
INSERT INTO user (login, password) VALUES ('TEST', '')

Passing '' as a value to varchar column in Sybase
causes it to store empty space. This behaviour is
documented in Sybase manual as follows:

The empty string ( ) is treated as a single space.
In char, nchar and unichar not null columns, the result
is a column-length field of spaces.

This can be tried out with: select len('') which returns 1.

Sybase manual page for character datatypes:
http://sybooks.sybase.com/onlinebooks/group-as/asg1250e/refman/@Generic__BookTextView/3571;pt=1908#X

I think this is stupid from Sybase's side, but they
have made it a feature.

True, this is not a bug on jboss. But maybe it should be on
some documentation, that JBoss does not work out-of-box with
Sybase varchars.

I Will try to workaround with JDBCParameterSetter. Actually
this is not a bug in JDBC-driver. It is a feature of Sybase.

[JBoss-dev] [Mail Services] - Re: Milestone 2

2004-12-08 Thread komone
Here's my negative opinions (Andrew, apologies in advance, but it's a genuine
set of opinions):

- This project has no planned architecture (let alone design). It desperately
needs one.
- This project does not have genuine selling point other than that it is the
same old mail services only this time on JBoss (yes, I have read the case for
mail services)
- This project is too unfocused in deployment of effort and feature delivery
(for instance, the integration with Nukes bit - that's way too early to be a
target)
- If I see another custom, application-specific user/group management
implementation I am seriously going to scream!
- It's dangerous (even suicidal) to tie an enterprise application to tiger just
yet. For most big enterprises 1.3.1 is still a standard JVM.
- No lessons seem to have been learned from the experience of Apache James (the
big draw for me in James was the ability to write Mailets, but it failed
evaluation for much the same reasons as mentioned above and that have been
previously posted in this thread).

So what to do?

Scott says step up to the wire. The question is - what's the reward for what
would be a major time investment. That should be made clear first.

In the meantime, my initial feedback on the overall vision side would be:

- Decide first and foremost WHAT DOES THIS PROJECT GIVE AN ENTERPRISE OVER AND
ABOVE SENDMAIL etc or EXCHANGE? Find the single line answer to that question
that is sufficient to convince anyone whether commercial or technical.
- Focus first on user/group management and figure out how to reduce
dependencies to the point where it is NOT destined to be an inextricable module
of the mail services.
- Deliver the IMAP so that a webmail interface could be built.
- Steal the mailets idea from james - yes, even the source as a start point.
- Look forward a bit and realise that you must ditch ejb2 entity beans and
build on ORM (hibernate) - later provide an ejb3 implementation for java 5 when
people actually want it
- Drop any other integration effort for the time being

Well, that's my 20 cents.

/k1

After having given some training on JSP and servlets to my colleagues, I'm
preparing a practical session with Eclipse/JBoss-IDE and JBoss AS. I've just
finished to write the training material and this could be what you're looking
at. It's a bit more than a simple hello world but it goes really step by step
with a lot of screen captures. If you want to give it a try (you could be my

[JBoss-dev] [AOP on JBoss (Aspects/JBoss)] - user defined aspect with dynamic-aop

2004-12-08 Thread Ollihak
Hi,

I've got a little question concerning dynamic-aop!!!

What I already did successfully is to use the dynamic-aop-API as it is
described in the Tutorial (jbossaop_reference.pdf Chapter 6.1). Like this:

org.jboss.aop.advice.AdviceBinding binding = new
AdviceBinding(execution(POJO-new(..)), null);
  | binding.addInterceptor(SimpleInterceptor.class);
  | AspectManager.instance().addBinding(binding);
  |
In my code, I read the pointcut and the Interceptor class from an xml-file, I
defined by myself, everything works fine.

But in this case, there has to be a class SimpleInterceptor, that implements
the Interceptor-Interface from JBoss-AOP and has a method called invoke...

Another way to define an aspect is to write your own class, implementing no
interface at all, but containing methods like this:

public Object methodname(Invocation i)

Then you just make an entry in jboss-aop.xml, that defines the class as an
aspect and calls the method.

My question is:
Is there any possibility provide this feature with dynamic-aop??? There are
some more explanations in the tutorial in Chapter 6.2, but I must admit, I
don't really get that.

Thanks for your help
Regards from Germany
OLLI

[JBoss-dev] [JBossCache] - Re: replication-granularity ATTRIBUTE problem

2004-12-08 Thread tokobayashi
Thank you for reply.

This can easily reproduce with a simple servlet handling HttpSession.
like this:

public void doGet(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response)
  |  throws ServletException, IOException {
  |
  | HttpSession session = request.getSession();
  | Integer value = (Integer)session.getAttribute(COUNT);
  | if (value == null) {
  | value = new Integer(0);
  | }
  | session.setAttribute(COUNT, new Integer(value.intValue() + 1));
  |
  | /* building html */
  | }

and stress the servlet using JMeter(100threads or more...).
mod_jk2 is not necessary requirement for this problem.

I found this problem only with 4.0.0.
With 3.2.6, this didn't occur.

This is not log4j issue. The duplicate commit message is found only for the TX
which ends up with the error log.

[JBoss-dev] [AOP on JBoss (Aspects/JBoss)] - jboss aop on websphere

2004-12-08 Thread tomjnsn
Has anyone used jboss aop at loadtime in websphere? I've been trying to get it
to work with no luck. I tried setting the classloader at startup with:

-Djava.system.class.loader=org.jboss.aop.standalone.SystemClassLoader

but WebSphere just bombs out and won't even start up. I also tried to switch
the classloader just before the class is loaded that I want the aspect on with:

Thread.currentThread().setContextClassLoader(new
SystemClassLoader(Thread.currentThread().getContextClassLoader()));
  | AspectManager.instance();

This seems to work, and when I put jboss.aop.verbose=true in the system
properties it shows that it successfully loaded up the aspect. However, when
it starts getting into determining whether to apply the aspect to particular
classes something seems to go wrong and it bombs out, not on the JBoss AOP
side, but on the IBM side. Seems like because of the classloader it is unable
to load up some configuration stuff that it needs.

I'd be happy to post what was logged, but it is kind of verbose. I'm
ultimately wanting to apply some aspects to IBM's code to gather some
information (not in a production system but in development). Since I don't
have access to the source of the classes I want to apply the aspects to I'm
assuming I need to do this at loadtime.

Thanks,

Tom

[JBoss-dev] [JBossCache] - Beginner; sample code , plain Treecache

2004-12-08 Thread derry2
Hi,
I am not sure if this is the right forum , but here is my question.

I am trying to configure JBoss cache with OC4J. Can someone point me to an
example implementation which creates a plain Treecache instance , add some data
to a node. And then look up for the same Node/data from a different class in
the VM.

I have tried a few things , but could not get it to work.

Thanks,
Derry

OK, that may explain it. I only did load test on 3.2.6 (although not as heavy,
perhaps). Anyway, this is a serious bug. Can you do me a favor of opening a bug
in jira.jboss.com (we are migrating to JIRA for issue tracking now)? I'd say
the category is either web or just AS.

Please assign it to me and I will take a look.

thanks again,

it is JBossCache, there are docs and a tutorial on the wiki.

The twiddle utility does not return proper return

would be nice a non-zero result code was returned on

[JBoss-dev] [JBossCache] - Re: Beginner; sample code , plain Treecache

2004-12-08 Thread derry2
Sorry,
I probably was not clear with the question.

I mean't the OC4J application server. I am trying to Use JBossCache in the
OC4J application server container.

I have been trying to find documentation to run JBossCache on other application
servers. (OC4J's application server container in my case)

Could you please point me to relevant documentation , if any.

I am a nove and i will try to put all that i have tried so far.

This was my original problem:

I wrote a simple java class that would populate a node of TreeCache Object with
a HashMap. This code was ruinning in the VM of the OC4J application server.

Then i tried to retrieve the data from a JSP deployed on the app server.

I was not clear how to do a look up for the TreeCache object that i had just
created .

Later i read that the MBean server for JBossCache would have to be running with
the application server for me to get a look up for the TreeCache Object .

This led me to search for any pertinent documentation.

Thanks,
Derry

Check out the wiki for how to use JBossCache inside WebLogic:
http://www.jboss.org/wiki/Wiki.jsp?page=JBossCacheAndWebLogic

Then look at GenericTransactionManagerLookup.

Wrt to lookup: you can use JNDI now: check out the documentation for 1.2
(coming out next week) for how to do this.

[JBoss-dev] [JBossWeb] - Re: Very weird Windows problem

2004-12-08 Thread chrismalan
I thought the same, but there are a few things against that:
1)I've looked at the returned JavaScript array when there are values missing.
They are indeed missing from the returned array - always the same ones.
2)Just updating Windows98 to Windows98 Second Edition fixed the problem. This
machine already had a MSIE 6.x to start with which is post Second Edition - so
the browser was not touched.
3)The offending WindowsXP machine has the browser that came with Windows XP, a
late one.
4)For testing purposes FireFox was installed on the Windows XP machine. It
produced exactly the same mistakes. FireFox on my son's Windows 98 SE machine
works fine.

Maybe I should go to the root of all evil - Microsoft ;)
They should have developer forums.

Please let me know if a flash of inspiration reveals all to you. On this one I
am very uninspired.

Regards,

Chris

[JBoss-dev] [ jboss-Bugs-1081791 ] EJB Timer Service broken when used with security domain

2004-12-08 Thread SourceForge.net
Bugs item #1081791, was opened at 2004-12-08 19:17
Message generated for change (Tracker Item Submitted) made by Item Submitter

Category: JBossServer

Priority: 5
Submitted By: mpoindexter (mpoindexter)
Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody)
Summary: EJB Timer Service broken when used with security domain

Initial Comment:
When an EJB (an entity bean in my case) has a security
domain associated with it, calls to the ejbTimeout
method fail with a SecurityException (insufficient method
permissions). It appears the principal is being hardcoded
to null in the TimedObjectInvoker, causing the security
check to fail in the SecurityInterceptor. I have tried
setting the method permissions for ejbTimeout to
unchecked, but these aren't picked up, possibly because
ejbTimeout is not a member of the bean's local
interface. I think there are two possible fixes:
1) Skip security checking for ejbTimeout in the
SecurityInterceptor (don't think this is much of a
solution since calls made to other beans in the
ejbtimeout method will have no principal associated with
them)
2) Store the current principal with the timer when the
timer is created. When the timer triggers, recall this
principal and set the current principal to the creator of
the timer. I think this seems like the correct solution

[JBoss-dev] [ jboss-Bugs-1081794 ] JDBCEJBQLCompiler: Invalid SQL for Left join read ahead

You can respond by visiting:

Category: JBossCMP
Group: v3.2
Status: Open
Resolution: None
Priority: 5
Submitted By: gunter zeilinger (gunterze)
Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody)
Summary: JDBCEJBQLCompiler: Invalid SQL for Left join read ahead

Initial Comment:
JDBCEJBQLCompiler does not take care to put the right
table name in front of the LEFT JOIN phrase:

Extending the GangsterBean by finder:

query
  query-method
method-namefindMembers_leftjoin/method-name
  method-params
method-paramjava.lang.String/method-param
  /method-params
  /query-method
  jboss-ql![CDATA[
SELECT OBJECT(g)
FROM gangster g
WHERE g.organization.name = ?1
]]
  /jboss-ql
  read-ahead
strategyon-find/strategy
page-size4/page-size
eager-load-groupbasic/eager-load-group
left-join cmr-field=hangout
eager-load-group=quick info/
  /read-ahead
/query

results in:

SELECT t0_g.id, t0_g.name, t0_g.nick_name,
t0_g.badness, t1_g_hangout.id, t1_g_hangout.city,
t1_g_hangout.st, t1_g_hangout.zip FROM GANGSTER t0_g,
ORGANIZATION t2_g_organization LEFT OUTER JOIN LOCATION
t1_g_hangout ON t0_g.hangout=t1_g_hangout.id WHERE
(t2_g_organization.name = ? AND
t0_g.organization=t2_g_organization.name)
0

The order of GANGSTER t0_g, ORGANIZATION
t2_g_organization is wrong. HSQL seems to be able to
intepretate the statement anyway, but other DBs (e.g.
PostgreSQL) report a SQL error.

The EJBQLToSQL92Compiler simple ignores the Left join
read ahead configuration for the cmr field:

SELECT t0_g.id, t0_g.name, t0_g.nick_name,
t0_g.badness, t0_g.cell_area, t0_g.cell_exch,
t0_g.cell_ext, t0_g.page_area, t0_g.page_exch,
t0_g.page_ext, t0_g.email, t0_g.organization,
t0_g.hangout FROM GANGSTER t0_g LEFT OUTER JOIN
ORGANIZATION t1_g_organization ON
t0_g.organization=t1_g_organization.name WHERE
t1_g_organization.name = ?

No 2) is not correct as there is no security context
associated with ejb timer calls. The container has to setup
the permissions to deal with this correctly.

[JBoss-dev] [JBossWS] - Generating mapping file and WSDL file

2004-12-08 Thread Ryan

I'm trying to generate both a WSDL and mapping file via the wsdeploy Ant task,
but I keep getting an error that -mapping is an invalid option or argument.
After printing out the actual command, there doesn't seem to be anything wrong
with the syntax, but I still get it if I cut and paste it, using the command
line tool.

I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this... or maybe I'm not
passing in the right parameters? I am using -define -mapping mapping file
name

Has anyone else seen this? (Btw, I'm using the jwsdp-1.5 pack)

[JBoss-dev] [JBoss JIRA] Created: (JBAS-46) EJB Deployment uses wrong ejb-local-ref for ejb-link

2004-12-08 Thread Michael Kopp (JIRA)
EJB Deployment uses wrong ejb-local-ref for ejb-link

 Key: JBAS-46
 URL: http://jira.jboss.com/jira/browse/JBAS-46
 Project: JBoss Application Server
Type: Bug
  Components: EJBs
Versions: JBossAS-4.0.0 Final
Environment: Actual Jboss version is 4.0.1RC1
Reporter: Michael Kopp
 Assigned to: Scott M Stark
Priority: Minor

This is a really strange problem. Everything works great as long as I do not
change the log4j settings. If I add the following line:

category name=org.jboss
  priority value=TRACE class=org.jboss.logging.XLevel/
/category

Some ejb-links cannot be resolved and are replaced by others.

This is correct:
java:comp namespace of the PublishingBean bean:

+- HandleDelegate (class: org.jboss.proxy.ejb.handle.HandleDelegateImpl)
+- ORB (class: org.jacorb.orb.ORB)
+- env (class: org.jnp.interfaces.NamingContext)
| +- jmx (class: org.jnp.interfaces.NamingContext)
| | +- ResourceFactory (class: java.lang.String)
| | +- ServerAgentId (class: java.lang.String)
| | +- PublishTypeFactory (class: java.lang.String)
| +- jdbc (class: org.jnp.interfaces.NamingContext)
| | +- HibernateFactory[link - java:ftisoft/hibernate/Core] (class:
javax.naming.LinkRef)
| +- ejb (class: org.jnp.interfaces.NamingContext)
| | +- destination (class: org.jnp.interfaces.NamingContext)
| | | +- email[link - ejb/local/destination/email] (class:
javax.naming.LinkRef)
| | +- template (class: org.jnp.interfaces.NamingContext)
| | | +- fti-template[link - ejb/local/template/ftitemplate] (class:
javax.naming.LinkRef)
| | +- translation (class: org.jnp.interfaces.NamingContext)
| | | +- xslt[link - ejb/local/translation/xslt] (class: javax.naming.LinkRef)
| +- translation (class: org.jnp.interfaces.NamingContext)
| | +- xml-text (class: java.lang.String)
| | +- xml-binary (class: java.lang.String)

This happens when I turn on trace:

+- HandleDelegate (class: org.jboss.proxy.ejb.handle.HandleDelegateImpl)
+- ORB (class: org.jacorb.orb.ORB)
+- env (class: org.jnp.interfaces.NamingContext)
| +- jmx (class: org.jnp.interfaces.NamingContext)
| | +- ResourceFactory (class: java.lang.String)
| | +- ServerAgentId (class: java.lang.String)
| | +- PublishTypeFactory (class: java.lang.String)
| +- jdbc (class: org.jnp.interfaces.NamingContext)
| | +- HibernateFactory[link - java:ftisoft/hibernate/Core] (class:

| +- ejb (class: org.jnp.interfaces.NamingContext)
| | +- destination (class: org.jnp.interfaces.NamingContext)
| | | +- email[link - ejb/local/LogWriterBean ] (class: javax.naming.LinkRef)
| | +- template (class: org.jnp.interfaces.NamingContext)
| | | +- fti-template[link - ejb/local/LogWriterBean ] (class:

| +- translation (class: org.jnp.interfaces.NamingContext)
| | +- xml-text (class: java.lang.String)
| | +- xml-binary (class: java.lang.String)

Additionally I see the following Warnings during deployment:

These are all MDB's so that is of course no home interface.

[JBoss-dev] [Web Services] - Re: Web Services Specifications Index Page

2004-12-08 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Let's work to get the specs from this list onto the JBossWS project roadmap as
we clarify the development plan for future versions. Clearly microsoft and
others are running far ahead of the j2ee specs in terms of web services support
and many users are looking for when jboss will support these.
