[JBoss-user] Why use JBOSS?

2003-12-18 Thread MCS

We are currently using tomcat, apache, and mysql to
successfully deploy a fairly complex application and we have no cause
for complaints.  Since my knowledge of jboss consists mostly of what
I was able to obtain from browsing the jboss website, can anyone
tell me what (and if) we can gain by using jboss?

Thank you,
MC

RE: [JBoss-user] jboss 3.2.3 + jetty X

2003-12-18 Thread Rod Macpherson
BCS poll shows Jetty winning however of the 18 million daily downloads
of JBoss that majority now use Tomcat.

We resisted moving to Tomcat because our stuff would break horribly on
it. When the powers that be started steering the herd toward tomcat we
decided to put the cart before the horse and jump on the bandwagon
before the fat lady sung. The problem turned out to be non-compliant JSP
tags that were exposed when we moved to Tomcat. After those were fixed
up we had no further issues to speak of.

I would also like to see regular Jetty releases, despite the fact that
it is no longer the container of choice. However I am not holding my
breath, as previous post seem to indicate that politics come before
innovation.

Yeah it's one of those days that started all wrong! But I still like
JBoss. In the end it always gets the job done :-)

I'm pretty sure you're only required to do pass-by-value for calls
through the remote interface. This would be a significant performance
hit if set and get inside of the bean always did a copy. Besides,
Collections returned from getRelationship are not copies.
Ok.

FYI, I know you don't care now, but we will look into the Tomcat
virtual-host thing you bitched about a few emails ago too.
Actually I do care. Tomcat 5.0 looks promising and I will probably use
that in the future when it and the JBoss integration is more stable. So
thanks for looking into this issue. I can file a complete bug report if
you want, with log entries, etc.

thought Entity Beans hold their own private copy of fields.

This is on 3.2.2.

[JBoss-user] 3.2.x and Virtual Hosting: Tomcat Broken, Jetty Works

2003-12-18 Thread Stefan Arentz
My scenario was pretty simple, yet it took hours to get it done with
tomcat. What I have is two web applications packaged in .ear files.
Both of these apps are bound to / but to different hostnames. Like this
in jboss-web.xml:

  /
  host1.blah.com

First try: Tomcat 4.x

I first tried this with JBoss3.2.3/Tomcat4. This does not work at all.
Tomcat4 barfs when the second .ear is loaded.

2003-12-16 09:10:13,148 ERROR [org.jboss.deployment.MainDeployer] could
not start deployment: file:fluts.war
org.jboss.deployment.DeploymentException: Error during deploy; - nested
throwable: (java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: addChild: Child name
'' is not unique)
at
org.jboss.web.AbstractWebContainer.start(AbstractWebContainer.java:440)
at
org.jboss.deployment.MainDeployer.start(MainDeployer.java:832)
at
org.jboss.deployment.MainDeployer.deploy(MainDeployer.java:642)
at
org.jboss.deployment.MainDeployer.deploy(MainDeployer.java:605)

Maybe something newer: Tomcat 5.x

Then I tried to do this with Tomcat 5.x that comes with JBoss 3.2.3.
Unfortunately this also does not work. The first app deploys fine again
but when the second one is loaded I get an
IncompatibleClassChangeError.

To the rescue: Jetty

Enough of that Tomcat cr*p. I got rid of jbossweb-*, downloaded
jboss-3.2.2-jetty-4.2.14.sar from http://jetty.mortbay.org, dropped it
in the deploy directory. My JBoss version is 3.2.3, but this Jetty
version works fine with it.

Guess what ... I deployed my ear files and they worked. No errors, no
weird class loaded stuff, no exceptions.

Why oh why does JBoss not ship with Jetty anymore. It is clearly the
servlet engine that works. Maybe my setup is unique. Maybe none of the
5 million people who downloaded JBoss use virtual hosting like this. I
don't know. All I know is that I will run my production servers with
Jetty for the simple reason that it is currently the only servlet
container that can actually deploy standard applications.

Bah. Four hours wasted.

Re: [JBoss-user] Bug when generating foreign keys with mySQL

Could you increase the log level to debug for org.jboss.ejb.plugins.cmp
and see what's wrong with the issued SQL.
Do you use composite or simple primary keys?

This worked very well in 3.2.2

[JBoss-user] problem with jbuilder9, jboss-3.2.3 and JDataStore

Hi,

I'm currently trying to deploy an enterprise javabean that uses a JDataStore

First I deployed the JDataStore using the file jdatastore-ds.xml wich

I copied dx.jar,jdsserver.jar and jds.jar from the jbuilder9\lib to
c:\temp\jboss-3.2.3\server\all\lib and put the xml file in
c:\temp\jboss-3.2.3\server\all\deploy. After I did that the server said:

this looks fine to me, however when I put the bean( voorbeeldenejb.jar) in

Re: [JBoss-user] Server Hanging on Startup

2003-12-18 Thread Rich Reese
This does not happen if I start the 'default' server instead of the
'all' server. Any ideas.

>>> [EMAIL PROTECTED] 12/15/03 12:07PM >>>
Hey everyone,
I am having problems with my JBoss-3.2.1 server coming up. It all
of a sudden started hanging on the following:

Can you give me any idea of why it is not coming up? What is it doing

[JBoss-user] Bug when generating foreign keys with mySQL

2003-12-18 Thread Olve S. Hansen
In jboss 3.2.2 I deployed to my InnoDB MySql without problems, but with
3.2.3 I experience problems generating foreign-keys when the flag
fk-constraint is set to true in my applications jbosscmp-jdbc.xml.

This worked very well in 3.2.2

Is this bug reported? The bug system at sf.net does not have a search
facility (as I found)...

Thanx

No, this is a j2se extension class
(most of which got included in the jre for 1.4)
You will find it in client/jnet.jar

I would also like to see regular Jetty releases, despite the fact that
it is no longer the container of choice. However I am not holding my
breath, as previous post seem to indicate that politics come before

I would expect, that you can just take a jetty sar from
a previous release, remove the tomcat sar from deploy/
and put the jetty one in.

There are no "Null" implementations of either service.

If you jboss-3.2.2+ there is an example using file
persistence (but I don't recommend this if your
messages are important - a db is much more reliable).
See docs/examples/jms/file-pm-service.xml

If you don't want your messages persisted, make sure
you use DeliveryMode.NON_PERSISTENT either on the
send or set as a property on the sender/publisher.

The MessageCache will still kick in when
the High Memory Mark is exceeeded (to try
to keep overall memory below the Max Memory Mark).

Adrian

[JBoss-user] java.lang.ClassCastException: org.jboss.proxy.ejb.handle.HomeHandleImpl

2003-12-18 Thread Muraly R
Hi Gurus,
I am trying a scenario, where in the home handle of the EJB plus the JNDI,
to be stored into a file using ObjectOutputStream.
But I am getting the following exception:
Exception : org.jboss.proxy.ejb.handle.HomeHandleImpl
java.lang.ClassCastException: org.jboss.proxy.ejb.handle.HomeHandleImpl
at java.util.Properties.store(Properties.java:444)
at SamLookup.main(SamLookup.java:61)

Code Snippet:
Object ref = ic.lookup(name);
EJBHome result =
(EJBHome)PortableRemoteObject.narrow(ref,Class.forName(names.getProperty(name)));
HomeHandle home = result.getHomeHandle();
..
FileOutputStream fos = new FileOutputStream(".\\handle.properties");
ObjectOutputStream oos = new ObjectOutputStream(fos);
handle.store(fos,"Store the handle of remote home interface of QPM");
.

The point of exception is in the last line.

The objective of this process is simple. Since there are 3 VM's involved in
our App. and all the VM's has to perform a lookup, if the handle is stored
in a file, all the VM's can read the handle form the file, thus reducing
the rmi lookup calss.

TIA
Muraly

Hi,

Almost all JMS mbeans depends on DestinationManager.
But DestinationManager uses PersistanceManager and
MessageCache which seems to rely upon a db connection.

I'd like to run JBossMQ without any db connections

Is it possible or does db is used for the JBossMQ core

What if I disable the PersistanceManager and

Re: [JBoss-user] how to implement inheritance between CMPs

2003-12-18 Thread Alexey Loubyansky
This is the problem on your side, probably. Can you check it with your
admins?

Also, there are some searchable archives on the net, for example,
mail-archive.com.

My answer was that there is no element in neither ejb-jar.xml nor
jbossXXX.xml that configures inheritance. Your question for me is still
not clear.

Re: [JBoss-user] jboss 3.2.3 + jetty X

2003-12-18 Thread Andrew May
Jetty supplies JBoss sars with each Jetty release. There's currently a
jboss-3.2.2-jetty-4.2.14.sar on sourceforge:
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=7322

There's also a FAQ about upgrading Jetty in JBoss:

I expect the next Jetty release will have a JBoss-3.2.3 sar.

Your question has been asked here (on 4/12/2003) and on JBoss Forums:
http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bb&op=viewtopic&t=43294
But has not been answered.

I know JBoss have decided to move the default bundle back to
including
Tomcat, but do they intend to also release a Jetty bundle
with each prod
release, and if so do we expect a long delay after the Tomcat release
each time?

RE: [JBoss-user] jboss 3.2.3 + jetty X

2003-12-18 Thread Peter Ondruska
Thanks. It is not that I am not able to do it myself. I am curious why is
there such delay, if there are any issues, ... Back when Jetty used to be
the default web container Tomcat bundle was not delayed (correct me if I am
wrong).

I believe I am not alone running JBoss+Jetty. I am not familiar with sf.net
but if it is not too complicated I offer my help producing latest
JBoss+Jetty if there are not enough resources.

[JBoss-user] Clustering problem:jboss3.2.2RC3/RedHat9.2

2003-12-18 Thread Nishant Aggarwal
Hi All,
I am having problems running "Jboss3.2.2RC3-jetty4.2.11" on "Red-Hat
Linux9.2" with "JDK1.3.1_08" in cluster mode.
I have attempted the following things:

1.Installed "Jboss3.2.2RC3-jetty4.2.11" on two linux machines on the same
NFS.
2.Added the "multicast" enabling string on both the machines as:

Destination Gateway Genmask Flags Metric RefUse
Iface
224.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 240.0.0.0 U 0 00 eth0

3.Tested using javagroups test client(McastReceiverTest/MCastSenderTest).Its
working fine.
4.Now , I ran one of the Jbosses on one of the machine in "all" mode.
5.When the first one came up, then started jboss on the other machine as
well in "all" mode.
6.Both the jbosses seem not to recognize the presence of the other,ie,I am
getting the following
output in logs of both of the jboss.
-
[ClusterPartition] Starting channel
[DefaultPartition] Number of cluster members: 1
[DefaultPartition] Other members: 0
[ClusterPartition] Started ClusterPartition: DefaultPartition
-
None of the jboss instances are able to recognize the presence of
other, though the cluster-service is deployed successfully on both the
machines.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks in advance,
Nishant.
