[JBoss-user] [Nukes User] - Update - installed via WIKI instructions but same error

2004-04-08 Thread kgelner
I ran across this useful WIKI page on Nukes installation:

http://jboss.org/wiki/Wiki.jsp?page=InstallUninstallUpgrade

And followed the instructions there. Those directions do work better, in that the
second build phase copies the installer EAR file as it should (although for the last
step, running build deploy-installer, I had to create the variable nukes.deploy.dir
and set it to default to have the installer work). I can run the installer OK, go
through all the steps, and at the end it says it installed OK. I can see the nukes
directory in Jboss with all the sar files for the modules I selected, and see the
nukes.ear file. But still when I try the nukes URL (localhost:8080/nukes) I get a
mapping error. Is this an error in the current build that I need to wait a day or two
to clear out?

Thanks,

--- Kendall

[JBoss-user] [JBoss Getting Started Documentation] - Re: Error When calling the HSQL Database Manager, page 23

2004-04-08 Thread davedarden
Ok -- new data. This seems a bit strange.

It works when I use Mozilla under X on the localhost machine.

I bombs when I use IE 6 under Win 2000 on a different machine on the same sub-net.

The windows machine runs the java applet on the Jboss Management Console just fine
(http://10.0.0.5:8080/web-console/index.html). So the java runtime works on the IE
browser.

It also runs the jmx-console fine (http://10.0.0.5:8080/jmx-console/index.jsp) and the
JMX MBean view
(http://10.0.0.5:8080/jmx-console/HtmlAdaptor?action=inspectMBeanname=jboss%3Aservice%3DHypersonic).
So it is talking to the jboss server just fine.

It bombs when I invoke the startDatabaseManager() operation.

Any ideas why it would be okay on Mozilla on the localhost and bomb on IE 6 on a
machine on the same sub-net that does run a java applet from the same source? Are
there IE settings that are important that distinguish between types of java applets?

The install process has changed a little. You don't have to copy the
build/etc/postgressql.properties file to the build directory. You just have to change
the nukes.database property in the local.properties file to postgressql. This tells
nukes to also use the postgressql.properties file in the build/etc directory.

Please forget last question , since we will wait for the 3.2.4 release.

Having been through JBoss's Thread dump, it appears that this morning, before start of
production, there is about 300 WriteTask threads left for only 5 or 6 ReadTask.

  | Thread: UIL2.SocketManager.WriteTask#1314 : priority:5, demon:true

  | Thread: UIL2.SocketManager.WriteTask#1342 : priority:5, demon:true
  | Thread: UIL2.SocketManager.WriteTask#1344 : priority:5, demon:true
  |

Is this the direct consequence of the failed ReadTask(s) ?

Also I've been wondering why the ReadTask stacks appear exactly each 5 minutes, and
even at restart of JBoss ( with or without clients connected)

Best regards,

Arnaud

[JBoss-user] [Installation Configuration] - Jboss 3.2.3 - Deploying applications

2004-04-08 Thread sundar20
Hi All,

I have downloaded the Jboss 3.2.3 version and got it unzipped to a folder in my PC.

I managed to successfully startup and shutdown the Jboss server after setting the
JAVA_HOME environment variable properly.

However, when I tried to run the deployer.bat to deploy an application, the batch
file is expecting the deployer.jar to be present in the bin folder. But the
downloaded zip file did not contain this file.

Please advise how I can deploy a war application..

By the way, I am new to Jboss 3.2.3 and I have been using 2.2.1 all along. What is
a SAR application?

Where can I get the steps to deploy an application in Jboss 3.2.3...

In 2.2.1, I used to simply copy the war, jar, ear files to the deploy folder and restart
the server and it did the rest...

Any suggestions and advise is highly appreciated...

[JBoss-user] [Beginners Corner] - Re: How to get objects which is binded using NonSerializable

2004-04-08 Thread tiim
I 've walked around this problem by write a stateless session bean (in the same vm
with the nonserializable object)to delegate the access to the nonserializable object.
It works in Jboss now. However when I do the same thing in Websphere AS, when the
session bean get the object out from jndi and cast it, there will be a exception
ClassCastException: javax.naming.Reference.
I know actually in NonSerializableFactory it actually bind a reference object to this
name, but I don't know why in Jboss it could be cast to the class I desired directly,
while in WAS I couldn't. Further How could I get the object in WAS ?
Thank you.

[JBoss-user] [Performance Tuning] - Serious performance issue using Oracle 9.2.0.4 and RAC/TAF

2004-04-08 Thread bob neville
Hi

We are using a third party package that uses JBOSS 3.2.2. Originally the application
connected to an Oracle instance (9.2.0.4 64 bit) running on a single server and
performance was acceptable but not great.
We have now moved the database to it's real server which is a dual node
Solaris 8 cluster using Oracle RAC and TAF - again 64 bit 9.2.0.4.

Database performance is great, less than .1 second response time, however the
application servers running JBOSS are maxed out after a short period of time - 99% CPU
etc etc. The only way we can resolve the issue is to reboot the app servers. We also
notice a very large number of hanging threads which have been dumped and analysed but
give us no clues.

All other NON JBOSS applications that use this set up perform very well !!

Is there anything we should have done to allow JBOSS to perform against this cluster
correctly or, more importantly, will this type of set up work ???

Thanks in advance

Bob

[JBoss-user] [Installation Configuration] - Re: Can any one direct me to configure jboss3.08 with oracle

2004-04-08 Thread kbk
Hi calffin,
I agree with Adrian. Actually I don't think this problem has anything to do with using
Oracle or not, or even using CMP with Oracle. Somewhere in your configuration/code you
are referrring to String, but it must be fully qualified ie. java.lang.String
So to answer your question, no I have never seen that exception in my configuration.

/Kris

manually just create .war file in the server\default\deploy folder.

another way is to use Ant tool to deploy, for this u must write a build.xml file.

[JBoss-user] [JCA/JBoss] - Jboss and Mysql, xxxDS not bound problem

2004-04-08 Thread Santarr
I am not sure in which topic my problem should be posted, so if in the wrong forum,
then please move my topic to the correct one and notify me.

The problem that I am having is with Jboss-3.0.3 and Mysql 4.0.xx, receiving a xxxDS
not bound message.

I received a legacy application from my boss to look into and to get it started once
more, unpacked it to find a jboss application. Installed the application with it's
configuration files and jboss, made a mysql database for it, changed the config files
to point to the new database and activated the default_run that was supplied.

Since then I tried and searched for quite some time about the xxxDS not bound problem
that I received.

The jboss server is started with a property file :
%JBOSS_HOME%\bin\run -P properties.prop -L %JBOSS_HOME%\server\lib\jdom.jar

The property file states among other things :
database.jndi.name=java:/MySqlDS

Then I have a mysql-ds.xml file :

local-tx-datasource
jndi-nameMySqlDS/jndi-name
connection-urljdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/xxx/connection-url
driver-classcom.mysql.jdbc.Driver/driver-class
user-namexxx/user-name
xxx
/local-tx-datasource

Recently I tried and just added a mysql-service.xml file to the project tho another
file called jboss-service.xml inside the Meta-inf dir of the project also states the
same things, just to see if perhaps something was not loaded.. now I receive this full
warning : (Note before this it would stop at the xxx DS not bound message)

[JBoss-user] [EJB/JBoss] - Blocked on EJB call

2004-04-08 Thread atropper
Hi,
I am new with the JBoss technology and I will appreciate your help with the following
issue:
I have a statefull EJB running in JBoss, while I invoke one of the EJB method remotely
from a different machine, The method is blocked for more than 1 minute (in the client).
When I try to debug the EJB method within the JBoss it seems that the method invoked
only after more than a minute after the client requested invoking the EJB method. Any
ideas where the message is queued? is there a chance that JBoss halt this message?

Thanks,
Amit.

[JBoss-user] [EJB/JBoss] - Create bean in factory (IIOP protocol)

2004-04-08 Thread olegsafonov
Hi.

If I use IIOP protocol (JBoss 4.0 DR3) and create beans from my own factory I get
CORBA::UNKNOWN exception (this exception translated from ClassCastException in JBoss
core). Example:
class MyFactoryBean ...
...
  MyBean createBean() {
...
return myBeanHome.create();
  }

That wrong?

Thanks.

TransType is the name of the table - what do I need to put in and where to make it

[JBoss-user] [Persistence CMP/JBoss] - Re: Auto-Increment and findByPrimaryKey

2004-04-08 Thread Beal91
You have to configure this in the jbosscmp-jdbc.xml file. In my file, I have the
following code in the defaults section:
unknown-pk
  | unknown-pk-classjava.lang.Long/unknown-pk-class
  | field-nameid/field-name
  | column-nameID/column-name
  | jdbc-typeBIGINT/jdbc-type
  | sql-typeBIGINT/sql-type
  | auto-increment/
  | /unknown-pk
  | entity-command name=mysql-get-generated-keys/
The unknown-pk section sets up the default values that JBoss will use when it
encounters an unknown primary key. The entity-command section tells JBoss how to get
the information on the key generated by the database.

Of course, for most entities sticking to a column named 'ID' isn't very cool, so in
each entity where I use an unknown primary key, I can add an entity-specific
unknown-pk element to configure the column name for that entity:
  unknown-pk
  | unknown-pk-classjava.lang.Long/unknown-pk-class
  | field-nameuserId/field-name
  | column-nameUSER_ID/column-name
  | /unknown-pk
  |

2004-04-08 Thread jatsrt
I am using JBoss 3.2.2 and MySQL 4.0.18

I I run this query
SELECT OBJECT(o) from Table o WHERE o.blah.id = ?1 ORDER BY o.meef.foo.id

It does not seem to joint correctly and generates a full cartesian product of the
tables.

However, if I do:
SELECT OBJECT(o) from Table o WHERE o.blah.id = ?1 AND o.meef.ORDER BY o.meef.foo.id

The query runs normally and returns the expected results.
Has anyone else seen this behavior and if sho what have they done about it?

Thanks,
Jake T.

What is your -Xmx value set to when starting up Jboss. You might need to increase the value.

Find the following line rem set JAVA_OPTS=%JAVA_OPTS% -Xms128m -Xmx512m in the run.bat and remove the rem at the front.

There should be an equivalent in the run.sh

[JBoss-user] Jaas JSP login problem

2004-04-08 Thread Neil Mendoza

Hi,

Im using the Tomcat server which comes with jboss.
Im having a problem with jboss login using jaas via jsp. I
successfully manage to login using jaas. The System.out.println(userPrincipalName);
in the jsp snippet returns test, all well and good so far.
This then calls getUser() in the ejb snippet at the bottom of this mail. The
System.out.println(ctx.getCallerPrincipal().getName()); called in
the ejb snippet below returns nobody though.

Im not sure if the system is only logging the user
into Tomcat or if it is because there are no method-permission tags in
the ejb-jar.xml. I dont need security for my beans yet but for ctx.getCallerPrincipal()
to work does the bean need a method permission tag with unchecked instead of a
role name? If the system is only logging the user into Tomcat is there a
way to pass this login info on?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Neil Mendoza

Re: [JBoss-user] unable to start JBoss

Some other application is using Port 8080. JBoss usually puts the
Tomcat/Jetty port there (which you need for JSPs or servlets). Try
disabling your software that uses port 8080 or edit the following file
before starting JBoss:
jboss-3.2.3/server/default/deploy/jbossweb-tomcat41.sar/META-INF/jboss-service.xml

You will find the port 8080 in there. Change it to 8090 or any other
port that is free.
To check the server started correctly you should be able to access
http://localhost:8090/jmx-console afterwards.
This all assumes that your are running JBoss on your local machine and
that you are trying to start the default configuration with Tomcat
integrated.
Good luck,
Tobias

[JBoss-user] [Persistence CMP/JBoss] - Definative JBOSS-QL Definition

2004-04-08 Thread jatsrt
Hi,
I am looking for the definative list of supported JBOSS-QL functions for a particular
version of JBoss.
Currently I am using JBoss 3.2. The AdminDevel guide does not have the supported
functions. The old CMP 2.0 doc has the JBoss-QL definition in it, but from the forums
that seems out of date.
What is the best way to know what is supported with JBOSS-QL.

Thanks

2004-04-08 Thread javamac
Currently I am using a WebApplication that requires a Mail Service to be at jndi
location java:comp/env/Mail. By
default JBOSS Mail is at java:/Mail. How can I change this to be at
java:comp/env/Mail. I tried making the
change directly to the element in mail-service.xml to no avail. Am I missing something?

[JBoss-user] [Messaging, JMS JBossMQ] - JBOSS subscribe Weblogic JMS Topic

2004-04-08 Thread ftftft
I want to listen to subscribe weblogic topic from jboss. I see many people ask almost
the same question, however, no solution yet. I'm curious to know it is doable or not.
If not, I stop trying. The follow is my trial.

1) I follow the FAQ and write a simple WeblogicMQProvider. The deployments seems
right. But it just doesn't work.

   Question:
How do I configure an MDB to talk to remote queue.
   Answer:
You need to configure a remote provider (this is similar to local one in
jms-ds.xml)
   3) Use external Queue/Topic ConnectionFactory

I don't see the follow configuration use external Topic ConnectionFactory.

2) I try ExternalContext. When I want to use JNDIView to see the JNDI tree, it never
return untill out of memory.

Thanks in advance.

[JBoss-user] [Messaging, JMS JBossMQ] - Interrupted while requesting permit!

2004-04-08 Thread Dark_Lord
Our environment is Jboss 3.2.3 on linux redhat9, DB is postgresql 7.3.4 and we use it
as JBossMQ persistence manager.

We have a session bean that call a method with RequiresNew. This method does the
following:

- Read a message in a queue
- Do some processing with the message (calling an MBean that will write some file to
disk).

Sometimes (but it's reproductible, we got the following stacktrace:

17:31:52,303 WARN [jboss.tm.TransactionImpl] Transaction TransactionImpl:XidImpl

at
com.X.XX.core.common.JmsReceiverBean.receive(JmsReceiverBean.java:126)

In our code line 78 is:

session = queueConnection.createQueueSession(false, QueueSession.AUTO_ACKNOWLEDGE);

queueConnection is a transient attribute of our session bean. We open the connection
when the bean is created/activated and we close it when the bean is passivated/removed.

I took thread dump and everything is normal

Could it be a Jboss bug?

Regards,

Stephane

[JBoss-user] [Nukes User] - Re: [Theme]Customize

2004-04-08 Thread sgwood

If you look at the extralite theme.html, you will see reference URLs like:

modules/core/images/nukes_logo_orange.jpg

and

themes/extralite/style/style.css

These point to files relative to the module code, or (particularly for you) the theme
jar. In a theme MBean descriptor, you will see:

org/jboss/nukes/core/themes/extralite

When this theme MBean is deployed, /themes/ is mapped to where the Root attribute
points to in the nukes classpath.

I've been seeing this, having done some recent performance testing on JBoss 3.2.3. I
suspect this is a JBoss bug. This happens after about 50,000 message processed by a
MDB which is using the java:/JmsXA connection factory (transacted.)

I'm not sure why the connection pool would block; why wouldn't it be unlimited in size?

[JBoss-user] [Security JAAS/JBoss] - jaas jsp login problem

2004-04-08 Thread Inky Pinky
Hi,

Im using the Tomcat server which comes with jboss. Im having a problem with
jboss login using jaas via jsp. I successfully manage to login using jaas. The
System.out.println(userPrincipalName); in the jsp snippet returns
test, all well and good so far. This then calls getUser() in the ejb snippet
at the bottom of this mail. The
System.out.println(ctx.getCallerPrincipal().getName()); called in the ejb
snippet below returns nobody though.

I'm not sure if the system is only logging the user into Tomcat or if it is because
there are no method-permission tags in the ejb-jar.xml. I dont need security
for my beans yet but for ctx.getCallerPrincipal() to work does the bean need a method
permission tag with unchecked instead of a role name? If the system is only logging
the user into Tomcat is there a way to pass this login info on?

Can this be done at all or does the login have to happen on the ejb side of the code
rather than in the jsp? I would have thought that it would work on the jsp side as it
is calling a login-module defined in jboss's login-config.xml

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Neil Mendoza

[JBoss-user] [Messaging, JMS JBossMQ] - Re: Interrupted while requesting permit!

2004-04-08 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
The default pool size is 20
There is an *implicit*

  | max-pool-size20/max-pool-size
  |
in jms-ds.xml

The interrupt is a transaction timeout.

Allocating a connection for the lifetime of the bean is not a very good use of
resources.
The things are pooled for gods sake, just open and close them as you need them,
they don't get really closed.

Adrian

2004-04-08 Thread anodos
I'm in the same boat as the author of this thread. I know that the JBoss manual says
JBoss does not preseed the pool... but maybe someone knows of a trick to get the
desired effect? Maybe now is a good time to add the preseed ability to JBoss? :-)

I've seen lots of posts like this.
People say they can't get it work but never post what the error message is
or what is not working.

The jndi view problem is probably due to some sort of recursion
in your jndi tree. Due to one part of the tree including another part and vice versa.
Adding the following property to the external context mbean might help fix it:

  | attribute name=RemoteAccessfalse/attribute

[JBoss-user] [Messaging, JMS JBossMQ] - Re: During startup server tries to load all messages in a JM

2004-04-08 Thread genman

The JMS/JBDC persistence managers have a method called restoreQueue:

src/main/org/jboss/mq/pm/jdbc2/PersistenceManager.java

This method reads all the messages back into memory. Theoretically, even if you
didn't have enough memory to read them all in, they be softened and JBoss would
start, albeit a bit slowly.

Adrian had the idea of including special MessageReference markers in the BasicQueue
that would force incremental loading from disk when the Queue empties:
   http://jboss.org/index.html?module=bbop=viewtopict=46186

Perhaps an easy fix would be to have restoreQueue return messages that are
pre-softened. This would work better in cases you have a few large messages, not
millions of smaller messages.

Sorry about that.

At any rate the value in should match the value in your datasource definition. The

Yes, the presoftened message idea ties in with my other requirement
to not serialize/deserialize message bodies.

http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bbop=viewtopict=46187

All you actually need is the message properties at recovery, not the whole message.

2004-04-08 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
The message you posted says it is trying to install the connection manager twice.

org.jboss.deployment.DeploymentException: Trying to install an already registered
mbean: jboss.jca:service=LocalTxCM,name=MySqlDS

It is hard to tell what is going on because you appear to have broken your
conf/log4j.xml
Once this is configured, all logging disappears.

The local-tx-datasource configuration is a 3.2.x configuration
I don't see how you can use it in 3.0.3

Adrian

[JBoss-user] [JCA/JBoss] - Re: Datasource restricted access for a web context

2004-04-08 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
No there isn't.

By default you specify a user/password on the data source deployment then
anybody in the container can use it.

You can setup a datasource to use the CallerIdentityLoginModule
this would pass the user/password from the ejb/servlet through to the database.

It is on my TODO list to containerize the connection factory proxies
and the objects they create such that you can add custom interceptors like
this security requirement.
The simplest way to do with the current architecture would be to
modify the CachedConnectionManager when it is told to register a connection
for an application. But this is not really the purpose of this service.

Adrian

[JBoss-user] [Security JAAS/JBoss] - Re: Opening RMI to the Internet?

2004-04-08 Thread mgaert
As far as I know, invoking through HTTP is just tunneling RMI.

Whether you're sending the data over RMI directly to the server or sending it over
http to the server makes little difference from a security point of view.

Both times, an attacker may send arbitrary untrusted data right inside JBoss.
Certainly the HTTP invoker does not check the data that it passes along to the inner
parts of JBoss.

Hey Adrian,

So you suggest to open/close the connection every time I need access to the queue.
Well ok but could it be the cause of my problem?

I don't get you with this pool size settings. My scenario is:

RequresNew - New transaction is created
- Create session
- Create receiver
- Read message
- Do some stuff with it
- Close receiver
- Close session

With a pool of 1 it should work right?

Stephane
