Re: Slaves getting hung up and Jenkins won't reconnect...

2014-05-09 Thread Larry Shatzer, Jr.
Try rolling back to 1.559, due to
https://issues.jenkins-ci.org/browse/JENKINS-22734 (Also notice all the bad
votes on http://jenkins-ci.org/changelog with the community ratings
starting with 1.560...)

On Fri, May 9, 2014 at 1:27 PM, Jeff predato...@gmail.com wrote:

My slaves are all Ubuntu 12.04, 14.04 or 10.04. I can ssh into them and
see the 'java -jar slave.jar' process still running. Jenkins doesn't show
 a Disconnect option.

If I kill all java processes and even reboot the slave I still can't
reconnect and when I try to relaunch the slave, I get the following message:

I try to take it offline it still gives the above error. The only way I
can get Jenkins to connect to it is to restart Jenkins Master.

Thoughts on what could be the cause?

I understand that maven and jenkins are unrelated projects.
I've thought that when the maven plugin is running inside a job started by
jenkins, the jekins running context could be available somehow for maven

For instance, each jenkins job runs in a different jvm, it would be easy
to jenkins start this jvm with a system property containing the jenkins
 user.
Anyway, I've already started to build a jenkins plugin to achieve what I
 want.

Thank you all for the advises.

Re: Problems with memory usage on 1.560

I've run into issues with the Clone Workspace plugin. Once I rolled back to
1.599, it went away. Have you tried to downgrade back to 1.559?

I've noticed that 1.559 uses Remoting 2.37, and 1.560 uses 2.39, and master
is currently on 2.40. I've not tried running this with what is on master
yet. I've been meaning to ping the IRC channel about this.

Another option is to use something like CAS, which you can point at
multiple directories, and then have Jenkins use CAS.

I think allowing authentication methods to stack would be a big plus
(like linux PAM...). Our development environment has an assortment
of test accounts and contractors that don't exist in AD so the bulk of
the users that are in AD are now forced to maintain a separate
 password.

Is there a way to set up an LDAP server that transparently merges some
extra accounts with those already in AD?

Check the logs when this is happening. I've had issues with some old
plugins in the past with similar behavior. Luckily they were plugins that
were no longer used in my instance, so removal of them fixed it for me. I'd
also check your javascript console for any possible errors like

plugins).

I restarted Jenkins, but that did not make any difference! The problem is

This seems to be a bug in Jenkins, because why half of the screen is

Is this a new problem? Does anyone knows if there is a fix to this problem?

There's a problem with the wiki and that page I see lots of exceptions
trying to load up
https://wiki.jenkins-ci.org/display/JENKINS/Plugins#Plugins-Artifactuploaders,
which is where that plugin should be shown. If you add a random query
parameter to the URL, like
https://wiki.jenkins-ci.org/display/JENKINS/Pluginshttps://wiki.jenkins-ci.org/display/JENKINS/Plugins#Plugins-Artifactuploaders?a=a,
then it will show up, so it might be something wrong with the caching that
the wiki has.

Re: SVN Distributed builds

2013-02-13 Thread Larry Shatzer, Jr.
The feature in Subversion you are looking for is called sparse directories:

ross.youngbl...@nextest.com wrote:

I'm working with Distributed builds, and I have a interesting problem.
I discovered that using SSD drives was a big help in speeding up the
builds of large files (my projects involve crunching large datasets for
 digital IC testers).
Some of my build projects are 30Gb or larger. And I currently have only 2
Jenkins build slaves with SSD drives (120Gb on one 60Gb on another), so SSD
space for builds is at a premium.

Without going into too much detail, I'd like these small projects that
crunch a subset of the data in trunk to only check out portions of trunk.
It looks like I'll have to build separate repositories with portions of
the original trunk to do this, but it would have been nice to have a
facility to checkout a list of files from the SVN repository as part of the
project build instructions. This way Jenkins could maintain separate
smaller workspaces that are independent of each other.

The current method I use to manage this, is to have all the Jenkins slave
projects use the same workspace directory, with the leading build doing the
SVN checkout, and the subsequent builds just building in that workspace.
On occasion there is resource contention with some common files which
makes parallel builds on the slave less reliable.

The copy files plug in might work for me, except that I would have to
prepare a subdirectory with the files I want ahead of time. For that
effort, I could have the copy operate via a script as part of the build… so
I don't see the copy files plug in as being of as much utility as just
 having SVN.

What I'd like is a way to specify a region for the checkout. I know with
the SVN repo browser on Tortoise SVN, I can just check out individual
files. So there has to be a command for that. I suppose I could build a
series of SVN commands in the bat script … or probably build my own plug
in. Any resources for plug-in development? Or if there is a plug-in
 solution that could help.

I just found the toggle to upgrade from my SVN1.4 to 1.7, so I can have
:external support, I could partition my svn repo using that technique… but
it's a pain. I don't like the idea of forcing the SVN tree structure to be
shaped by the number of execute engine parallel jobs.

Re: How to tag Jobs for grouping in Dashboard

2012-11-19 Thread Larry Shatzer, Jr.
I started work on a plugin that would allow you to label jobs to group them
together by using the JobProperty [1] extension point. I didn't get too far
(nothing usable) before I shelved it due to time and work load. You might
want to look into that extension point. I envisioned a way similar to
labeling nodes to allow you to label jobs that you could make use of in
filters for dashboards, and other uses.

Since that lazy loading feature 1.485 jenkins just can't read job and
build data correctly anymore and messes up totally.

One advice : restore the previous jenkins version. If you revert to 1.484
(if you use Maven, don't forget to revert the Maven plugin as well),
everything will work nicely again. No historical build results will be lost.

Jenkins 1.485 is seriously broken and completely *unusable* !

Re: How to handle project dependencies?

2012-10-08 Thread Larry Shatzer, Jr.
I use one job per project, and use NuGet (http://nuget.org/) to store
artifacts and depend on them. There is no auto dependency feature for
triggering dependency jobs. I've manually set them up.

How should I configure jenkins to build and test it?

 my suggested alternatives are:
 a) one job for each solution? - rather large jobs
 b) one job for each project? - many jobs. How do I handle the project
 interdependencies?

I've been looking at this for quite a while...
I prefer b, but have been stuck on msbuild v.2.n and cannot figure out how
 to handle references between projects..
(There must be someone outthere that know how to build 2 c# projects with
jenkins, one that uses the other)

 thanks.

I tried re-adding the maven configs but they keep disappearing. I saw the
1.484 update had some issues fixed so I upgraded but still have the same
 issue.

I also noticed that my JDK, ANT, Maven and GIT configs are gone. What the
 heck?

 ?

Well, changing the behavior as suggested in this issue would make it
possible to workaround my problem and use copy artifact plugin.
Because copy artifact plugin gives me a choice to use build selected
by permalink 'last Release'. Surprisingly the code to look for
permalinks looks very similar in both plugins but Maven Deployment
Linker does not see permalinks that are not built in.

The way the Maven Deployment Linker works is that it scans the logs for a
regular expression so it can get the link to your maven repository to put
the link(s) of the artifacts uploaded to your maven repository on the job
page.

Re: Does Jenkins have something like CruiseControl's ignoreFiles attribute?

2012-06-27 Thread Larry Shatzer, Jr.
I'm not sure about the TFS plugin, but you could look at
https://wiki.jenkins-ci.org/display/JENKINS/Pathignore+Plugin

On Tue, Jun 26, 2012 at 2:37 PM, Chip Whitmer
cwhit...@servicerepairsolutions.com wrote:

CruiseControl's configuration file includes an element modificationset
with an optional attribute named ignoreFiles. (See
 http://cruisecontrol.sourceforge.net/main/configxml.html#modificationset)

This allows you to exclude certain files so that changes to those files do
NOT trigger a new build. For example, if your build process increments a
counter in a configuration file, you don't want that change to trigger a
new build -- so you don't get into a loop where each build modifies a file
which in turn causes a new build.

Is there any way to do this in Jenkins, using the TFS plugin?
