Re: Blue Ocean Status Update

2021-10-18 Thread Oleg Nenashev
Hi all,

To whomever sees this thread, please see Bringing Blue Ocean into the
future of Jenkins

 by
Tim Jacomb. Taking the state of BlueOcean that has not changed much over
the past two years, I suggest making the Pipeline Graph View Plugin an
official path for Jenkins.

Under that, I mean:

   - Add "Pipeline Graph View Plugin" to the Jenkins Roadmap, in the
   preview or released status
   - Add "Pipeline Graph View Plugin" to the list of the recommended
Jenkins plugins in the plugin installation manager
   - Remove Blue Ocean from the list of recommended plugins in Jenkins
   - TBD: Announce the future plan to double down on consolidating Blue
Ocean features in Jenkins and then deprecating Blue Ocean
   - TBD: Create tasks for replacing Jenkins newcomer user documentation
   that related on Blue Ocean

Note that there are still gaps in Jenkins features, e.g. Visual Declarative
Pipeline Editor is available only in Blue Ocean. Probably it is too early
to announce deprecation of Blue Ocean, but we need to make a decision at
some point.

Opinions?

Best regards,
Oleg

ANN - Jenkins project infrastructure was affected by Fastly outage on Jun 08, 2021

2021-06-08 Thread Oleg Nenashev
Dear all,

As you may know, there was a major Fastly outage that led to many outages
around the web. Fastly is a worldwide Content Delivery Network (CDN)
service used by many sites and services (website <https://www.fastly.com/>).
Fastly sponsors the Jenkins project, and we use it for many services, and
we have been a happy user of it for more than one year by now. Many Jenkins
services were affected.

Examples of affected services: Jenkins website (jenkins.io
<https://www.jenkins.io>), documentation site, plugins site (
plugins.jenkins.io/), update centers, and even the status page (
status.jenkins.io). These services are used by many Jenkins instances, and
also by many Jenkins developers, adopters and vendors. There might have
been lasting impact on user instances, including but not limited to: plugin
update failures, documentation access issues, monitoring alerts, etc.

The Jenkins infrastructure team is aware of the situation. We are working
on the resolution where possible, and we wait for the resolution of the
root cause on Fastly’s side. If you want to participate in the resolution,
join our #jenkins-infra channel on libera.chat
<https://www.jenkins.io/chat/#internet-relay-chat-irc>. We will also do a
public retrospective later, stay tuned for the follow-ups.

Thanks for your patience, and #HugOps to the Fastly team.

Best regards,

Oleg Nenashev

Re: [IMPORTANT] plugins deprecation for Digester removal

2021-05-30 Thread Oleg Nenashev
Thanks to Baptiste for bringing it up explicitly! Many plugins from the
list can be fixed, and there are already pull requests created by Adrien
Lecharpentier and Carroll Chiou. It would be great to help them landed, but
many plugins are effectively abandoned. I highly recommend that the pull
request authors ping maintainers about putting the plugin for adoption.

Re: [REMINDER] - Jenkins 2020 elections. Voter registration deadline on Nov 08

2020-11-10 Thread Oleg Nenashev
Hello,

Thanks a lot to those who have already registered! Just a quick update,
after confirming the technical possibility we decided to extend the voter
registration deadline to Nov 24th. It gives Jenkins contributors more time
to register if they missed the Jenkins elections due to many other ongoing
events happening. You can still register for the elections by submitting this
Google Form <https://forms.gle/y3qDo8EM8iQnd3fY9> or sending an email to
jenkins-2020-electi...@googlegroups.com.

The registration deadline extension does not delay elections and does not
change the voting deadline (Nov 27). We have started sending the voting
links and the clarification/rejection emails to participants, and we will
keep incrementally doing it during the next 2 weeks. If you do not receive
a confirmation email within 2 working days after your registration, please
do not hesitate to contact the Jenkins 2020 Elections Committee.

Dear Jenkins users and contributors,

The Jenkins UI/UX online hackfest
<https://www.jenkins.io/events/online-hackfest/2020-uiux/> has officially
started! I am re-positing this announcement in the mailing list, just in
case somebody would like to join the hackfest and needs quick-start
guidelines. Any contributions will be welcome!

How to get started?

   1. Register to the event <https://forms.gle/MrkASJagxNvdXBbdA> if you
   have not done it already.
   2. Join our Gitter channel <https://gitter.im/jenkinsci/hackfest>. We
will use it for Q and discussions during the event.
   3. Join the kick-off meeting
   <https://www.meetup.com/Jenkins-online-meetup/events/270644129/> (May
25, 1PM UTC) or watch the first 20 minutes of the recording. If you want to
start early, we will also have a small opening session at 8AM UTC

<https://calendar.google.com/calendar/r/eventedit/copy/M2c2Z2RwY3V2MGEwYjN0bWpmajNjajFkaWwgMGhjODliMW5scDJsZDM1bXR1cGIzbzdjZnNAZw/by52Lm5lbmFzaGV2QGdtYWlsLmNvbQ?sf=true>

How to choose a project? Check out the project ideas
<https://www.jenkins.io/events/online-hackfest/2020-uiux/#tracks-and-project-ideas>.
Find a project or an area interesting to you. If you do not have a strong
preference, we recommend working on something that could improve your own
experience and address the UX issues you hit with Jenkins personally. If
you do not use Jenkins personally but want to explore it, consider working
on newcomer-friendly issues or on documentation for newcomer users: getting
started guides, tutorials, etc.

How to report contributions? We deployed a special GitHub repository
<https://github.com/jenkinsci/ui-ux-hackfest-2020> which will be used to
collect contributions and to generate reports from the event. Please report
your code and non-code contributions as GitHub issues, there are issues
templates for common types of contributions. You can find full guidelines
here
<https://github.com/jenkinsci/ui-ux-hackfest-2020/blob/master/CONTRIBUTING.md#reporting-contributions>

Retrospective: Regressions in Jenkins 2.204.3...2.204.5

2020-03-09 Thread Oleg Nenashev
Dear all,

We had serious regressions in the 2.204.x LTS baseline starting from
2.204.3 which was released on Feb 28 (changelog
<https://jenkins.io/changelog-stable/>). After that we had 2 out-of-order
releases over a week, with 3 major regressions reported by Jenkins LTS
users. These regressions were largely related to the embedded Jetty web
container updates in the LTS baseline. In 2.204.5 we also had to
reintroduce a defect in the LTS release, and it is also far from business
as usual.

I have started a public retrospective document
<https://docs.google.com/document/d/1NzR1XtkCfk6MDSD1jRq5H-iPSjqKvP-pfUO0b9lVZ9k/edit?usp=sharing>
to restore the sequence of events and to discuss what we could do better in
the next releases. Anyone is welcome to comment in the doc and to make
suggestions there. If you are a Jenkins user affected by the issues, your
feedback will be much appreciated as well. Thanks in advance for your time!

I also suggest organizing a recorded video call next week to discuss the
retrospective feedback. If you are interested to participate, please vote
for the meeting times here: https://doodle.com/poll/xrhpmsk9xpba2tfh

Just to emphasize, the purpose of the retrospective is to improve our
processes and to ensure better quality of LTS and weekly releases. The
regressions were caused by numerous causes and they passed though all our
quality gates, there is no sense to put blame on any Jenkins team. There
are many contributors involved in the core maintenance, and we do our best
to provide stable releases, including weekends and burning the midnight
oil. Please refrain from putting a blame and let's focus on making Jenkins
releases more stable.

P.S: We are always looking for more contributors
<https://github.com/jenkinsci/jenkins/blob/master/CONTRIBUTING.md> and
reviewers/maintainers in the Jenkins core. If you are interested to
help with maintaining the kernel of the project with millions of developers
using it daily, please let us know!

Best regards,
Oleg Nenashev
Jenkins Core Team

Re: Remove old agent protocols?

2020-01-10 Thread Oleg Nenashev
Some updates here:

   - The deprecated protocols were removed in Remoting 3.40
   <https://github.com/jenkinsci/remoting/releases/tag/remoting-3.40>.
Jenkins agents will not longer support these protocols
   - On the master side, the changes were integrated towards Jenkins 2.214
weekly. ETA is next Monday. The next LTS baseline after 2.204.x is expected
have the protocols removed as well
   - Jenkins agent images need to be updated to the new versions of
   Remoting. ETA is next Monday
   - Swarm Plugin Client is updated
   <https://github.com/jenkinsci/swarm-plugin/pull/167>, but we need a
   release

Best regards,
Oleg

Hacktoberfest 2019. Contribute to Jenkins!

2019-10-02 Thread Oleg Nenashev
Dear all,

Once again, Hacktoberfest is
back! During this October event, everyone can support open-source by
contributing changes, and can earn limited edition swag. We invite you to
contribute to Jenkins, regardless of your experience and background. You
can write code, improve documentation and design, localize Jenkins or
create new artwork. Any GitHub pull request counts!

See our Hacktoberfest Page for
more information about the event. If you are a newcomer contributor, we
have also prepared a number of featured projects
 where anyone
will get a warm welcome. There will be also many online and local area
meetups in October.

If you are interested to know more, tomorrow we will have 2 online webinars
at 7AM UTC and 2PM UTC. See the Jenkins Online Meetup
 page for the links.

Have a great hacking time!

[GSoC 2019] - Jenkins project has been accepted!

2019-02-28 Thread Oleg Nenashev
Dear all,

On behalf of the Jenkins Google Summer of Code
<https://summerofcode.withgoogle.com/> org team, I am happy to announce
that the Jenkins project *has been accepted* to GSoC this year. Congrats
and thanks to all mentors, org admins and students who has contributed to
it!

Just to provide some numbers, this is the biggest GSoC ever, 206
organizations participate in GSoC this year. And it will be hopefully the
biggest year for Jenkins as well. We have 25 project ideas
<https://jenkins.io/projects/gsoc/2019/project-ideas/> and more than 30
potential mentors (and counting!). It is already more than in 2016 and 2018
all together. There are many plugins, SIGs and sub-projects which have
already joined GSoC this year. And we have already received messages and
first contributions from dozens of students, yey!

*What's next?* GSoC is officially announced, and please expect more more
students to contact projects in our Gitter channels and mailing lists
<https://jenkins.io/projects/gsoc/#contacts>. This year there will be less
traffic in the Developer mailing lists until projects are announced,
because communications move to SIG and sub-project channels. Student
project proposal deadline is April 9th, and we will be working hard in
order to help students to find interesting projects, to explore the area,
and to prepare their project proposals. We will send more information to
mentors and students in separate emails.

*I am a student. How to join the project?* We invite you to follow the student
guidelines <https://jenkins.io/projects/gsoc/students/> and to reach out to
potential mentors using chats and mailing lists listed in project ideas. If
you do not see anything interesting, you can propose your own project idea
<https://jenkins.io/projects/gsoc/proposing-project-ideas/> or check out
ideas in other organizations
<https://summerofcode.withgoogle.com/organizations/>, you can even propose
your Jenkins-related ideas there.

*And what about mentors?* We are also looking for more project ideas and
for Jenkins contributors/users who are passionate about Jenkins and want to
mentor students. No hardcore experience required, mentors can study the
project internals together with students and technical advisors. We are
especially interested in ideas beyond the Java stack, and in ideas focusing
new technologies and areas (e.g. Kubernetes, IoT, Go, whatever). This
blogpost <https://jenkins.io/blog/2018/12/26/gsoc-2019-call-for-mentors/>
by Martin d'Anjou provides the guidelines. If you want to propose a new
project idea, please do so by March 11th so that students have time to
explore them. You can also join already published project ideas as a
potential mentor.

Stay tuned for more announcements about GSoC. If you want to know more
about the project, consider joining our Gitter channel
<https://gitter.im/jenkinsci/gsoc-sig> and the jenkinsci-gsoc-all-public
<https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/jenkinsci-gsoc-all-public> mailing
list.

Best regards,
Oleg Nenashev

2019-01-08 Thread Oleg Nenashev
Hi all,

According to the feedback here and in the chats, I believe it makes sense
to proceed with creating the SIGs. While we wait for the additional
feedback, I have created the Gitter channels so that we can discuss next
steps there:

   - https://gitter.im/jenkinsci/hw-and-eda-sig

Best regards,
Oleg

Proposal: Embedded and HW-and-EDA special interest groups

2019-01-07 Thread Oleg Nenashev
Dear all,

I would like to start two new special interest groups in Jenkins: Embedded
SIG and "Hardware and Electronic Design Automation" (HW and EDA) SIG. Just
to provide some background, I have originally came from the
Hardware/Embedded area, and industry-specific CI/CD is still one of my main
interests. Since JEP-4 "Special Interest Groups" was proposed in 2018, I
have had a number of discussions with Jenkins users in these areas. There
is a LOT of them, Jenkins is a de-facto standard in the industry thanks to
its flexibility and the framework nature.

Embedded/HW automation engineers are generally less active in Jenkins
user/developer mailing lists, because in many cases their use-cases and
demands differ from the Jenkins community mainstream
(Java/Docker/K8s/etc/etc.). It would be great if we could offer channels
for such area-specific discussions so that we can get more contributors
involved in the community.

I would like both SIGs to be *user groups* focused on sharing experiences
about Jenkins usage for specific use-cases and in the specific
environments. SIGs may also work on improving documentation (e.g. solutions
pages), and be a contact point for some development activities (plugins for
development tools, etc.). Generally I would like to start from
chats/mailing lists and monthly meetings in both SIGs.

Why 2 SIGs? Although hardware and embedded use-cases overlap sometimes
(e.g. testing on hardware, mixed design), I lean towards having two
separate SIGs. Embedded SIG would focus on embedded software and high-level
devices for various areas (e.g. Automotive, IoT, etc.) while HW-and-EDA SIG
would focus on the hardware design for ASICs and FPGAs.

I will appreciate any feedback. If somebody is interested to help
organizing the SIGs and driving them, please let me know.

Thanks in advance,
Oleg

Re: Slave / master terms

2018-09-17 Thread Oleg Nenashev
FTR https://issues.jenkins-ci.org/browse/JENKINS-42816
It lists some known issues, but it is not complete of course.

We have tentatively added some issues from the list to Google Code-In task
list. Many of required patches are pretty small, so they are
newbie-friendly.

ANN: JEP-200 - Class serialization rules hardening in Jenkins LTS 2.107.1+, please read upgrade guidelines

2018-03-14 Thread Oleg Nenashev
Dear Jenkins users,

As you probably know, in Jenkins 2.107.1 we are going to introduce a
serious security hardening change. XStream and Remoting blacklists will be
replaced by whitelists, so that Jenkins will become more restrictive about
class serialization over the channel. You can find more technical details
about this change in this blogpost
<https://jenkins.io/blog/2018/01/13/jep-200/>.

Before upgrading to the new LTS, make sure to read the Upgrade Guidelines
<https://jenkins.io/doc/upgrade-guide/2.107/#upgrading-to-jenkins-lts-2-107-1>.
There are about 50 plugins affected
<https://wiki.jenkins.io/display/JENKINS/Plugins+affected+by+fix+for+JEP-200>,
so it is important to carefully read the guidelines and follow the upgrade
procedure. More information will be posted soon in an additional blogpost.

There are the following steps to perform during the upgrade:

   1. Read https://jenkins.io/blog/2018/01/13/jep-200
   <https://jenkins.io/blog/2018/01/13/jep-200/#for-jenkins-administrators>
   2. Backup your instance
   3. Update all affected plugins ,

workarounds for non-released patches if needed
   4. Monitor your instance to ensure that there is no unknown regressions
   1. Focus on build logs and system logs, events with the link to "
  https://jenkins.io/redirect/class-filter/; are likely related to
  JEP-200
  2. Report issues (if any) with the "JEP-200" label
  3. Apply workarounds or patches provided by JEP-200 maintainers

In order to simplify the migration, we also have assembled short guidelines
about upgrading to JEP-200. You can find these guidelines here:

   - Slidedeck:
   https://speakerdeck.com/onenashev/jenkins-jep-200-status-update-and-heads-up
   - Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vfnc9t1RuYA

If you need any additional information or assistance, please do not
hesitate to respond to this thread.

Best regards,
Oleg Nenashev

Pinged the maintainer in GitHub:

So far there is no evidence that the plugin is not maintained. I usually
judge by GitHub (stale pull requests), not by JIRA.

Re: How do you iteratively work on a Jenkinsfile?

2018-02-02 Thread Oleg Nenashev
For this purpose I am using FileSystem SCM plugin to retrieve scripts
without committing + local Docker snapshot of the production instance. You
can find some info about my approach in these slides
<https://speakerdeck.com/onenashev/jenkins-world-2017-developing-pipeline-libraries-locally>.

Slides are a bit outdated, but the demo is more or less up to date:

Hopefully it helps,

installer with several different registry settings. I would assume that the
instance actually had a non-clean JENKINS_HOME directory when you tried the
installation.

If you manage to reproduce the issue again, please follow the security
issue reporting guidelines:
https://jenkins.io/security/#reporting-vulnerabilities

Re: Using JNLP4

2017-10-06 Thread Oleg Nenashev
Better late than never.
Swarm plugin has been updated in February. Version 3.3 now supports JNLP4.
Not that you need to update not only the plugin, but also the Swarm Client
executable.

Re: Fail to install Jenkins slave agent as a service

2017-10-01 Thread Oleg Nenashev
Hi all,

Just FYI, Jenkins Windows Service command line is documented here:
https://github.com/kohsuke/winsw .

WinSW is a standalone project, Jenkins just generates an XML configuration
file for it. You can take the template from here
and

then configure the instance manually if the service installation fails.

P.S: The error in the first message is greek to me. Would be great to get
info about the Java version you use in Windows

Re: warning about deprecated protocols

I have created JENKINS-46760
 and
https://github.com/jenkinsci/jenkins/pull/3012 to disable this
administrative monitor when the TCP Agent Listener is disabled. As Daniel
pointed out above, in the current instance the protocols should be just
disabled in Web UI.

Re: Jenkins restrict what nodes a Job can run on

2017-08-15 Thread Oleg Nenashev
There are few more simple ways if you just need this feature:

   - Use Authorize Project plugin
    to
assign authentication to your builds. Then Just set Computer/Build
permissions for you nodes (Can be done in Role Strategy plugin for example)
   - Use Job Restrictions Plugin
    to
restrict access to node via Node properties

You can find some pointers to plugins and sample configurations in this
slidedeck:
https://speakerdeck.com/onenashev/belarus-jenkins-meetup-managing-security-in-jenkins-with-config-as-code-and-roles

I'd guess it is within the Subversion plugin.

Re: Multibranch pipeline job doesn't fully support Subversion?

2017-06-08 Thread Oleg Nenashev
The current state of the SVN plugin is discussed here:
https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/jenkinsci-dev/JUAzYLfuMhw .
Effectively the plugin has no active maintainer. So I would not expect any
ETA for this fix.

There are many pending changes

contribute, please feel free to help with the reviews and also feel free to
claim ownership of the plugin.

Which issue do you mean? https://issues.jenkins-ci.org/browse/JENKINS-17782

Re: Jenkins Remoting Library and JarCache

2017-05-22 Thread Oleg Nenashev
Yes, it is a bunch of JAR Files and other resources like DLLs. In Jenkins
Remoting agents are lightweight libraries (slave.jar), which do not contain
much logic OOTB. This cache is required in order to save remoting data and
to avoid high classloading traffic every time your agent connects to the
master and executes builds.

Currently Jenkins core enforces FileSystem JAR cache in remoting though
Remoting can probably work without it. If you want to have such mode, feel
free to submit issue in JIRA. Pull requests will be also appreciated.

Hopefully it helps,
Oleg Nenashev

Hi Kristian,

Jenkins has not been updated to Remoting 3.8+ yet.
So the options are not available there yet. Once I integrate all the
things, there will be examples of agent calls in Jenkins WebUI.

I will see if I can improve the documentation a bit. If you have any
specific proposals exceptiong commandline options, please do not hesitate
to create issues in JIRA or to respond to this thread. Pull requests will
be always appreciated.

Here you pass the log destination to the configuration file. It is not how
the configuration file work. The current documentation provides two links
with examples: "See details about the property file format in Oracle
documentation
<https://docs.oracle.com/cd/E19717-01/819-7753/6n9m71435/index.html> and this
guide <http://tutorials.jenkov.com/java-logging/configuration.html>. Note
that ConsoleHandler won't be enabled by default if this option is
specified.", so I am not sure what was the problem there

Also see upgrade guides being posted on the jenkins.io side.
There should not be serious update blockers, but backup and testing are
always recommended. Likely you will be afftected by some security fixes,
which change the default behavior n some cases.

Google Summer of Code 2017 - We are looking for mentors!

2017-02-04 Thread Oleg Nenashev
Hi,

On behalf of the GSoC org team I am happy to announce that we are going to
apply to Google Summer of Code
<https://developers.google.com/open-source/gsoc/> on this year. GSoC
presumes that high-profile students work in open-source projects for
several months under mentorship of organization members.

We will officially apply on Feb 6 after FOSDEM. Currently we are working on
the application docs and on the landing page. We are also looking for
mentors and project ideas. So yes, *we are looking for you* *:)*

*Conditions*

   1. Mentors lead the project in the area of their interest
   2. Mentors actively participate in the project during student selection,
community bonding and coding phases (March - August)
   3. Mentors work in teams of 2+ mentors per 1 each student
   4. Mentors dedicate a consistent and significant amount of time,
especially during the coding phase (~5 hours per week in the team of two
   mentors)

Mentorship does not require strong expertise in Jenkins plugin development.
The main objective is to guide students and to get them involved into the
Jenkins community. If your mentor team requires any specific expertise, org
admins will do their best in order to find advisors.

*What do you get?*

   1. A student, who works within the area of *your interest* on full-time
   for several months
   2. Joint projects with Jenkins experts, lots of fun and ability to study
   something together
   3. Limited edition of swags from Google and Jenkins project
   4. Maybe: Participation in GSoC Mentor Summit in California with expense
coverage (depends on project results and per-project quotas)

*Requirements:*

   1. You are passionate about Jenkins
   2. You are interested in being mentor or advisor
   3. Your project idea should be about *Jenkins* (plugins, core,
   infrastructure, etc.)
   4. Your project idea should be about *code*
   5. Your project idea should be potentially doable in 3-4 months
   6. You are ready to dedicate time && have no major unavailability
periods planned to this summer (e.g. 2-month hike in Tibet without internet
   access)

*If you are interested:*

   - Drop the Email to the Jenkins Developer mailing list with "GSoC2017"
prefix, or just respond to this email
   - Briefly describe your project idea (several sentences) and required
qualifications from students. If you already have a co-mentor, please
   mention him
   - Having several project ideas is fine. Having no specific ideas is also
   fine.

Disclaimer: We cannot guarantee that all projects happen, it depends on
student application results and the number of project slots.

You can find examples of GSoC 2016 project ideas here
<https://wiki.jenkins-ci.org/display/JENKINS/Google+Summer+Of+Code+2016#GoogleSummerOfCode2016-Projectideas>.
You can also find information about the projects on this year on the
Subproject page: https://jenkins.io/projects/gsoc/ (see referenced
blogposts for details).

Re: Inject variable in pipeline plugin

2016-12-27 Thread Oleg Nenashev
there is a withEnv() wrapper, see
https://github.com/jenkinsci/pipeline-plugin/blob/master/TUTORIAL.md#managing-the-environment.

In order to use it in Pipeline with a similar code, you will likely need to
allow several binary API calls in script security. Not sur eif it's
convenient

Re: [Jenkins-infra] Jenkins installation offline

2016-08-26 Thread Oleg Nenashev
Hi,

If you need to install Jenkins offline and then manage plugins on it, the
best way would be to use a local update center, through which you can
distribute plugins. For example see
https://github.com/yandex-qatools/juseppe (Embedded file-based update
center).

Once you connect Jenkins to such update center, the most of the
installation flows will be similar to common Jenkins. The only exception
are downloadable tools (Java, Maven, Ant, etc.). Generally you should avoid
using them by using alternate installers (e.g. from the core or from Extra
Tool Installers Plugin
).

Hopefully it helps,
Oleg

I think it would be better to integrate the functionality into an existing
plugin like

Maybe we could shift the focus of this program. Or just close it,

Re: [Jenkins-events] Clarification on CIA program

2016-01-10 Thread Oleg Nenashev
Added the developers ML to Cc.

Maybe my question is out of the track...
Do we really need the "Jenkins CIA" program now? I've never seen it to be
used actively during last 4 years.

   - "CIA" term is really outdated, because we try to shift the focus from
   Continuous Integration
   - JAMs have organizers, who are supposed to do the "ambassador"'s work
   if I understand correctly
   - Big Jenkins-related conferences also have organizers, who blog about it

So the only problem is the events not focused on Jenkins (e.g. FOSDEM or
whatever generic conference). BTW people on such conferences can
self-organize.

I like #6, but Jenkins' arm is definitely oversized.
Usage of earth globe on the background is not so obvious, because it shows

Re: Simple Plugin Theme Store

2015-10-07 Thread Oleg Nenashev
+1 for the idea.

I would vote to use a GitHub organization as a repo. Related thread:
https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/#inbox/15040c942f2816bf

In such case I see the following advantages:

   - You get a "repository" out of the box including project README pages,
   etc. => Minimal efforts
   - Each theme can be stored as a separate repository and maintained
   individually.
   - Existing theme repositories may be easily forked
   - Snippets from GitHub may be used directly
  - You can present a list of Snippets in Simple Theme Plugin
  - You can use GitHub stars as a community rating for sorting
   - You can version themes using GitHub releases or Git tags tags

We could use the existing Jenkins CI org, but probably a new organization
is better due to the indexing advantages.

Best regards,
Oleg

Re: [workflow-plugin] Sample script for deleting a workflow workspace?

2015-10-01 Thread Oleg Nenashev
Hi Craig,

I noticed that the deleteDir() feature has not been released yet. It should
appear in workflow-1.11. Can be temporarily replaced by a script invocation
via "sh".

Thanks a lot for your feedback regarding the documentation. As you probably
see, it's being reworked now. I'll forward your proposal to Esther
<https://github.com/estheryouhana>, who works on the docs now. BTW, also
feel free to contribute :)

Everything after the first new line seems to be discarded. This reduces the

Does anyone have an idea which change caused this and/or how this can be

I'm happy to provide an example if that helps.

Re: Regarding Multiple SCM Plugin

Accurev plugin uses an obsolete form handling approach, which also relies
on unique field
names:
https://github.com/jenkinsci/accurev-plugin/blob/master/src/main/java/hudson/plugins/accurev/AccurevSCM.java#L905-L907

This approach cannot work with Multiple SCMs plugin. Please create a bug
to Accurev plugin

 Hello All,

We are using Accurev as VCS tool.

I wanted to use 2 different streams of a depot. as part of our build
 mechanism.

When I configure in Jenkins, using multipleSCM, after saving the
configuration, it is automatically updating to the First Depot from the
 Accurev server list.

If I try without using multiple SCM, with only one stream of the Depot,
 then configuration is fine.

Eg: if I use multiple SCM

 Accurev server: Accurev_Server
 Depot: Sandbox3
 Stream: XYZ

 Accurev Server: Accurev_Server
 Depot: Sandbox3
 Stream: abc

 After saving the configuration:

 It changed to

 Accurev server: Accurev_Server
 Depot: Sandbox1
 Stream:

First time, I am facing this kind of scenario.

 ThanksRegards,
 Kiran Sirigiri

Re: [workflow-plugin] how to add parameters to existing/new project

2015-07-15 Thread Oleg Nenashev
Currently you would have to define Workflow job parameters via UIs and then
use these parameters as environment variables in your workflow scripts.
Unfortunately there is no direct scripting support.

среда, 15 июля 2015 г., 12:06:07 UTC+3 пользователь Arek Skalski написал:

I have a code snippet to create an empty workflow project.

 def parent = Jenkins.getInstance()

 project = parent.createProject(WorkflowJob.class, name)
} else print [INFO] Project $name already exists. Will be updated.
 project.setDescription(my description)
 project.setDefinition(new CpsFlowDefinition(print \test\))
 project.addTrigger(new hudson.triggers.TimerTrigger(0 20 * * *))
 project.setBuildDiscarder(new hudson.tasks.LogRotator(, 5, , ))
 project.save()

I would like to add parameters to that project, something like:

 project.addParameter(new StringParameter(name, default, description))

but I cannot find a way how to actually do it.

request response for mid=2 (got syncron message receive timeout error)..

Ideally, in such case, email notification should only be sent to Jenkins
admin/Test team rather than individuals who commited the change that
 triggered Jenkins.

What would be the best way to approach this ?

 Many Thanks,
 Jakub

Re: Any plugin to parse XML?

2015-03-09 Thread Oleg Nenashev
AFAIK there's no plugins for such purpose.

The best way to do it in Jenkins w/o plugins would be...

   1. Convert XML file to *.properties using XSLT conversion
   2. Inject environment variables using EnvInject plugin

I think a dedicated plugin (or EnvInject extension) would find some users.

Best regards,
Oleg Nenashev

Is there any plugin to parse XML and extract selected fields into
 Environment Variables?

If not, would it make sense to implement something like this for the
 community?
For instance, one would provide the XML file with the content:

 project
 developers
 developer
 iddev1/id
 nameDeveloper 1/name
 emaildevel...@email.com javascript:/email
 /developer
 developer
 iddev2/id
 nameDeveloper 2/name
 emaildevel...@email.com javascript:/email
 /developer
 /developers
 organization
 nameCompany/name
 /organization
 /project

Then, there would be an additional field where one could make the
 following assignment:
 DEV_USER = ${project.developers[1].id}
 ORGANIZATION = ${project.organization.name}

The following environment variables would be created:
 DEV_USER = dev1
 ORGANIZATION = Company

Re: Note on IE 11 compatibility w/ Jenkins v.1532.2

2014-05-06 Thread Oleg Nenashev
Hi Richard,

Then arcjenkins-dev mailing list is not a good place to submit issues,
because nobody can readhandle every e-mail

I kindly ask you to create issues on https://issues.jenkins-ci.org/
Then Jenkins component maintainers will get notifications and will be able
to handle the issues.
This way is much more reliable.

Best regards,
Oleg Nenashev

Note on IE 11 compatibility w/ Jenkins v.1532.2

This bugs me because for the longest time I thought these Jenkins features
 were broken.

The People link produces no output on IE 11

The TimeStamper plugin’s radio buttons in the log view do not change
 anything using IE 11.

 They work fine with Chrome.

(I give thanks every day that I don’t do web development.)
