Re: Has anyone ever made the Cone ToDoList work!?!?
To my experience Todolist is not as easy as Jportal... where Jportal configuration, compiling creating war etc., are much straightforward especially tried with accompanying tutorial. Todolist 'readme' is not sufficiently documented except for list of jar files needs to be included before compiling needs more refined step by step discussion for standalone users especially configuring in mysql and updating the data.. .. unfortunately.. we can't expect too much from developers especially when it is donated.. generously... trial and errors will help ofcourse.. -- M. Use of jetspeed in the context of CPs
I am writing to this listserver to get some information on: 1) List of sites preferrably Corporate Portals (CP) running JetSpeed or equivalent 'freebees' 2) Database for Login etc : MySQL (or equivalent - free DB's ) 3) More custom designed portlets: (preferrably other than bundled ones with Jetspeed) 4) Optionally: Scientific Contents . 5) Tutorials for design of Corporate Portals (Taxonomy) I know it is nothing to do with 'problems or too techie' request. Pl. share/contribute your knowledge. I just completed reading few books on portals may be interest to this community. 1) Designing Portals: Opportunities and Challenges (A Jafari, M Sheehan) Inf.Sci. Publishing (2003) 2) Realizing the Promise of Corporate Portals: Leveraging Knowledge for Bussiness Success (2003) JC Terra, Cindy Gordon (Publisher: Butterworth Heinemann) 3) Chapter 3: Building Portals for Higher Education : Knowledge Management Competitive Advantage in Higher Education A Serban, J Luan (2002) My Algorithm :) 1) Create The Tool (e.g JetSpeed) 2) Use it !!! 3) Advance/Modify/Update: Develop it further if (value 0.8) 4) Go to: Step 2 else : break; regards -- M. Re: Compile errors :Building jetspeed examples
Jportal should work !!! My suggestion is build using source of Jetspeed, with flexibility. Steps for NOVICE: 1) Did you succeed with Jetspeed alone? 2) Did you follow EXACT procedure to compile and run JPORTAL? (pl. note that it is modified for new version of jetspeed including latest CVS!) 3) what about: Jetspeed.jar 4) Compile first Jetspeed followed by Jportal (you can get rid one error/warning OFF logically) 5) Are you in hurry? hotdeploy... or stepwise? e.g., ant tutorial-1 instead of ant tutorial-all the list is endless and every error/warning during compilation will GUIDE you.. Goodluck typical setting if you are using tomcat/mysql/jetspeed-src/ (it works for me...) # testing 12345 # # typical settings with source # jetspeed_home=/jetspeed-1.4 catalina_home=/tomcat portlet_app_name=jportal company=com.bluesunrise.jportal jetspeed_jar=/bin/jetspeed-1.4.jar jetspeed_war=/bin/jetspeed.war jetspeed_lib=/lib jetspeed_conf=/webapp/WEB-INF/conf/ --- lot of discussion about jportal already available in archive --- HINT: search jportal in mail-archive -- M. Re: Compile errors :Building jetspeed examples
Here is the mistake: = portlet_app_name=myjportal company=com.shail.jportal how you will find COFFEE here? note: it should be... portlet_app_name=jportal company=com.bluesunrise.jportal until unless you wrote your own java code for the same.. I doubt as you are a new user to jetspeed (also did not succeed in jetspeed.. don't worry it is a matter of few hours extra trial to see jetspeed running which will keep your 'sprit' high to undertake challenging tasks) DON'T JUMP TO MODIFY THE CODES until you are comfortable running 'default' settings. I again insist compile jetspeed.war from SRC (for flexibility) and then compile Jportal. Goodluck -- M. This is something similar to 'trying to see only login frame of yahoo' through IFramePortlet, dynamic change of fixing co-ordinates (x1,y1,x2,y2) instead of traditional (x,y dimention of portal). Write your own book (notes) for Jetspeed 1.4+
I think the free download, accompanying document, method of installation, seeing the first screen is enough to explore further in jetspeed. Generally books STOP there, (first 300 pages) if one really want to learn/contribute then SRC (downloadable) is the best. Additional knowledge of a) MYSQL (or any database) ( 10 page) b) TOMCAT (or any webserver) (10 page) c) JDK (or 1.4+) 'caution: deprecation' (10 page) d) Frontpage (or equivalent) for html/jsp (10 page) e) Operating System (Linux, windows, etc) (10 page) f) ant (3 pages) g) SOAP (2 pages) h) jportal (com.bluesunrise.*) (http://www.bluesunrise.com/jetspeed-docs/PortletHowTo.htm) ... ... ... turbine, torque / jetspeed
anyone know where to get old turbine.jar file to use with jetspeed. e.g., org.apache.turbine.util.db.pool.DBConnection is deprecated after torque release 3.0. I too understand it is nothing to do with jetspeed, since I need to re-compile the java code with jetspeed without modifying the existing codes (e.g, replace org.apache.turbine.om.BaseObject with org.apache.torque.om.BaseObject) etc., http://db.apache.org/torque/changes.html and it is tedius... a quick fix is getting all the 'OLD-GOLD' jars. RE: Single sign-on With Jetspeed - My solution
Hi Nishar, Here is my suggestion to implement single sign on, but I dont know how far it goes with the standards of Jetspeed. You can modify JLoginUser.java, add some code to store the username and password in Cookies. Once Username and Password are available via cookies, then websites/ web applications which authenticates need to altered like this. If Username and Password Cookies are available then dont show the authentication page else if Username and Password Cookies have expired or not available then show the login page. Well done David, From the TODO-DOCUMENTATION list I would like to pick 'Document New Pluggable Security Model, New Interfaces for Authentication and Authorization services.' I think you are dealing with Security, just outline how to proceed with documentation. -- A couple of requests to all the aspiring Jetspeed developers, 1. Have a look at http://jakarta.apache.org/site/contributing.html. 2. To avoid cross posting let us take the discussion regarding TODO-DOCUMENTATION.txt to the jetspeed-dev mailing list With ThanksRegards E.S.Karthikeyan DOCUMENTATION TODO LIST - New Developers Guidelines like http://www.jboss.org/developers/join.jsp - How-to submit a bug - Document New Pluggable Security Model, New Interfaces for Authentication and Authorization services. - Document New Security Registry - Document Portlet instances and ids - Document new link tool $jslink - Document Portlet References, Aggregate Portlet - Document Profile Browser - Document New WebPage Portlet - Document Multiple Template Roots - Document XML Media Type support - Document Database Browser - How-to Unit Testing - Document Registry categories - Document Id Generator service -Original Message- From: David Sean Taylor To: 'Jetspeed Users List' Sent: 7/1/02 8:11 PM Subject: RE: why do not the authors of Jetspeed write the detail documentabout Jetspeed? Yes it's a pleasure to do it. I think most of the active developers of Jetspeed like Paul,David,Scott .. (sorry to miss other developers) are extremely busy in shaping Jetspeed to an excellent shape ( one can observe this by following jetspeed-dev mailing list). May be it's unfair to expect a detailed documentation or help manual from them. Many of us have really benefited from such an open source EIP and I feel the time has come for us to pay back by contributing as a developer or atleast by lending our hands in preparing a help manual. As Gautam pointed out, the help manual and FAQ we are about to prepare will definitely reduce the number of queries flowing in to the forum. A couple requests to Paul Co. 1.You need to roll the ball first by preparing a TODO list for the help manual or FAQ and give the adequate guidance. 2.If we observe JBOSS.org, they welcome the aspiring open source developers in a fantastic manner like how to start and where to start ( kindly have a look at http://www.jboss.org/developers/join.jsp). It is my humble opinion, We need one such thing for the open source Jakarta projects. This would facilitate the aspiring open source developers to start and then they may become active developers in Jakarta projects. RE: Navigation templates per user?
John, Let us assume that user1 and user2 are the two user for whom you need to assign top1.vm and top2.vm. In the /templates/vm/layouts/html/default.vm file add the following code #set($userName = $data.getUser.getUserName()) #if($userName == user1) #set($top = top1.vm) #elseif ($userName == user2) #set($top = top2.vm) By default there is a piece of code $jnavigation.setTemplate(top.vm), replace it with $jnavigation.setTemplate($top) do the same for left.vm and bottom.vm cases also. Hello All -- I need to support different portal appearances per user -- that is, I'm using velocity and I want to have a different top.vm, left.vm bottom.vm for each user. I've tried to look in the archives to see if anyone has asked this question before but haven't found any references to this issue. Is it possible to support individual templates for the navigation bars? Can someone give me a pointer or two about how to go about it? Or maybe there's another way to achieve the same thing? Does anyone have any other ideas? RE: detect URL parameters in portlets
Let us assume 'p' is the parameter you need to pass in the query string and grabbed, let 'rundata' be intance of Rundata class. HttpServletRequest req = rundata.getRequest(); String p = req.getParameter(p); with regards E.S.Karthikeyan -Original Message- From: Casimiro Lovato-Winston To: Jetspeed user mailing list Sent: 6/13/02 2:10 AM Subject: detect URL parameters in portlets How can you grab URL parameters in portlets? I want ot be able to write a portlet that can detect if parameters are passed on the querystring and take action based on what it finds (usually a URL). Can I get servlet like functionality from the RunData class to do this? Regarding Permissions and 'Add Portlet' section
Hi all. I would be grateful to you for helping me to solve the following issues. 1) I need to give permissions at the portlet level like some portlets may have all the permissions. some portlets should not have permission to Close , Minimize and Customize. 2) We all know that portlets are added to the screen by clicking the 'Add Portlet' button in the Customization section. Let us assume the following scenario. I have portlets A,B,C and D and users Turbine and Tommy. When Turbine clicks the 'Add portlet' button, all the portlets A,B,C and D are shown. When Tommy clicks the 'Add Portlet' button ONLY A and B need to be shown because Tommy doesn't have anything to do with the functionality of Portlets C and D. I think this may be possible with Jetspeed because when Turbine is assigned with the additional role 'Admin', the admin portlets like Permission Browser, Permission etc are shown in the 'Add Portlet' section which were not displayed when Turbine user didn't have 'admin' role. Thanking you in advance. with ThanksRegards, Karthikeyan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

Fetching UserName and Password of a JetSpeed User.
hi all, I have embeded our intranet sites as webpageportlets in JetSpeed. Almost all the sites have to be logged in with a username and password. Incidentally, all the intranet sites share the same pair of Username and password for a particular user (ie., a user has same username and password for all the intranet sites) . To access those sites a jetspeed user has to type the username and password in all the WebPagePortlets. To avoid this , if the Jetspeed user is created with same User Name and Password, Is it possible to fetch the UserName and Password of a Jetspeed user and pass them to WebPagePortlets so that sign in need not be done for each portlet. It may resemble more like Single Sign on but is it possible to achieve this. with thanks and regards, karthikeyan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]
WebPagePortlet problem during sign in
Hi eveyone, As per the suggestions of Anthony and Brad I have used WebPagePortlet to embed my local site as a portlet which points to http://192.50.51.4:8080/invoice/jsp/login.jsp ( please note that is a jsp page). It works perfectly when I use it as a WebPagePortlet. But that jsp page has User Name and Password fields to log in. If I enter User Name and Password and click the 'log in' button then page is not submitted at all. Actually there is no problem with that login page, it works perfectly when accessed directly with browser ( I am using IE5.0). But it doesn't work when embeded as a WebPagePortlet. Please suggest some solution to overcome this problem. with thanks and regards Karthikeyan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]
