[JOYnet] God is Good all the time....

2003-01-27 Thread Monita Fernandes
Hi my dear one is Jesus

This mail is a testimony of how my Lord saved my life today. PRAISE GOD!!

Today early morning I just woke up and stepped out of the house , just two steps and
there was big noise and I saw something falling down from the terrace and it landed up
near my feet. Our antenna which is nearly 10ft. long was right above the place where I
was standing. Suddenly it fell from the terrace and it should have fallen on my head
since i was right below it, miraculously my Lord saved me and it fell on the auto and
on our car then it fell down near my feet. But nothing happened to me nor the auto or
the car also (just two scratches on the glass) even though such a heavy thing fell on
it.

[JOYnet] The Unusual Prayer Request

2003-01-27 Thread Jason :)
Dear JYs today i got this rather unusual but very touching Prayer Request from
EP from a person called : Girl. Her email id is : [EMAIL PROTECTED]

From her email I could understand what she is going through. So please do pray
for her and all the people who go through similar phases. there are many youth
who after coming into the renewal reach that phase known as Ok we are in the
renewal. now what? Many are confused and many leave. So do pray that they
understand that God is still continuously working in their lives. That they
have patience and they can recognise his will for them.

Prayer Request: This is the pattern my life has been taking the last several
years. Girl has tragedy, girl cries out to God for help, God steps in and
makes things better. Girl asks God to stay and help keep her life on track.
Girl is seeking much and learning along the way. Girl prays and repents often.
Girl tries to go to church but finds much negative, one church bashing the
other and the girls own limited knowledge about where God wants her to go.
Girl gets confused and doesn't go to any church. Then the down side starts to
happen. Girl gets lonely, girl wants some kind of life. Girl goes out with
friends to a bar, girl gets lots of attention. Girl gets drunk and then gets
sick. Girl did not go home with any boy nor did she take any boy home with
her. Girl had several offers but deep inside knew that getting drunk was bad
enough and was not going to go any further into the pit. Girl felt bad and
knew she shouldn't be here doing this, but the alternative was girl sitting
home alone again and again. Girl wakes up with headache and regret. Girl
asks God for forgiveness but girl is disgusted with self and isn't sure God is
listening anymore. Girl just wants to find mate, go to church, have some sort
of a life before death comes.

RE: [JOYnet] The Unusual Prayer Request

2003-01-27 Thread Anil Thomas
Hi,

This normally happens to a Girl/boy who gets converted to Christianity (by
listening to some sermon or
converted by someone or some incident in life). She isolates herself from
her former friends or tries to convert them also.
She goes to some church(mostly to the converter's church).
She starts reading Bible. Naturally gets a lot of doubts and seeks
clarifications.

(Inspite of being christians -We all know that once somebody is converted
to Christianity, he is a new person-
we still have the Hindu cast system in our minds; we deal with the
converted people
based on their original cast and community, skin colour, financial
position, education, position in society etc.)

She may not find suitable/convincing answers or support from her church.
Then others(some modern former friends/family members) notice the change
in her and tries to convince her back.

Now one of following two situations may happen.
   1) she goes to Pentecost kind of belief where there is lot of peer
support.
   Or
   2) She does not go to church or goes back to her old ways.

The second kind gets pangs of guilt feeling every now and then and tries
to mend their ways but will end up in the same trap as there is no change in
the circumstances/society.

The first type may also either persist in the belief, or gets weared out
owing to pressure from family and/or society.

This Girl in the mail is looking at the society with a magnifying glass.
Whatever she sees in the society is magnified.

The only answer to this vicious situation is a change in our attitude. We
should be able to reach out to such people
(these people are more vulnerable than people who are born in Christian
families), help them in their need.
We need to support and help them to grow in Christ.

Sure, We need to pray for such people. But the need of the hour is a
change in our attitude towards them.

Your friend in Christ
Thomas

[JOYnet] RE: [JOYnet} Happy News

2003-01-27 Thread Bincy Abraham
Hi everyone,Sorry about the email with no text. it went somwhere else.
here goes the email again!!! this time it will hopefully reach
everyone-text and all!!! Praise GOD!!! Yesterday was the baptism of my
cousin's child... ever since the baby was born both parents wanted to
baptize the baby because they valued the sacrament of baptism so much...
due to the encouragement of the grandparents (and of course some JY
influencers) my cousin decided that on the joyous occasion of the baptism
of his daughter NO ALCOHOL would be served!!! Praise GOD!!! for me living
in the US for almost all my life, i have never went to a party where
there was no alcohol served... my dad never really drank and when he
decided to not drink at all and not to serve alcohol in our house about
10 years ago it was something radical and he was ridiculed by others so
much and now a days i usually only see no alcohol being served at
JY/charismatic houses...but change is indeed happening and in more houses
in the US alcohol is disappearing!!! praise the LORD!!! our family along
with my cousins parents had been praying for my cousin to be able to keep
the ! ! commitment he made. His wedding was remembered as one with the
most alcohol served in the town area and now for his daughter's baptism
no alcohol!!! praise GOD!!! only GOD can do such wonderful things!!! i am
not saying that he has made a commitment to not have drinks with his
friends or at other parties but he decided not to serve on the occasion
of the celebration of a great sacrament!!! all ends start with small
beginnings and small steps!!! So much prayer is needed for alcoholics and
for families under the influence of alcoholism!!! Even people who are not
addicted to alcohol but have a drink occaionally are still bringing all
the evils associated with alcohol into their personal lives and
families!!! Only the power of the Holy Spirit can break the bondages
linked with alcohol!!! Not only do people have to desire to not drink but
also not serve drinks in their homes and be around occasions where
alcohol is served!!! Luv, Bincy :=) CHICAGO

[JOYnet] HAI, THAT IS GREAT]]]]]

2003-01-27 Thread FR. THOMAS THARAYIL
Dear Friends,
Hope you all must have read that mail from Zenit news (Zenith.org - January
22) that talked about a document produced by the bishops of India, in which there is a
reference to the new wave of evangelization and renewed zeal for the mission etc.
The document clearly refers to the Jesus Youth] I really praise and thank Our
mighty Lord for that reference.
At this point I call to mind the days in the past when JY was not known by
anybody except a few committed young men women; the times of tensions troubles it
had to go through; the many misunderstanding misjudgments that had to be humbly
taken .; but all those days of endurance and persistence, with the clear vision of
loving the Church and being at obedient service to the Church, has now brought the
movement to the HEART OF THE CHURCH. Praise thanks to the Lord for He is good. At
this point let us also thankfully remember all those great people of vision who lead
us through those moments with true commitment and dedication.
But, along with this 'acceptance' and 'recognition' comes GREAT
RESPONSIBILITY upon all of us Jesus Youth. Let us be more clear about our call and
mission; let us be more at the service of the Church; let us live the call to be a
missionary movement in its full sense. May God's Holy Name be Praised and Glorified
for Ever.

[JOYnet] Mission Experience

2003-01-27 Thread Anto Simon Kollannur
Dear friends,
I wish to write one inspiring Christmas Experience which I
got from a letter from one of my uncle, who is a priest, working
in Chhattisgarh, as a Missionary. I think this experience will
help us to got inspiration in this period of enthusiasm.

During the advent season, we have the custom of priest
visiting every village to celebrate Holy Mass, to hear confessions
and to prepare the people for the Christmas. I have about 28
villages, some of wich are very far away. The we are also
staging one hour drama to communicate a message against alcoholism
since that is theworst evil myparishoners are fighting with. Plus
we are going to have two charismatic retreats in my parish; first
one is from 25th to 27th Jan (already finished) and second one is
from 29th to 31st Jan so as to make sure that every one of our
parishioners to participate in the retreat. Please pray and ask
ur JY friends to pray for the success of the retreat.
At this Christmas season, I would like to share myChristmas joy at
Aundhi with u. As part of the tradition, we have and advent tour
of the villages by the priest and sisters in our parish. Last day
when I, with one sister, visited a village which is very poor even
by our own local standards, after hearing the confessions, I
velebratedthe Holy Mass on a paper carton box, on a veranda of a
house which has only bamboos as its walls. On my right hand side
i.e., of the altar(the card board box, because they did not have
anything better to offer as an altar for the Holy Mass) there was
the so called wealth of that family; a few goats. Through the
gaps between the bamboos, they were watching yet again one more
christmas;the Word becoming flesh and blood; this time it was not
the immaculate Virgin bringing Jesus forth into the world, but the
Holy Spirit was making it happen through the weakness and
wretchedness of a very sinful priest.
I had seen the four women of those four poor families talking
together in pain before we started the Mass at 12.00 noon. They
were probably worried as to what to offer to me and to the sister
with me for our lunch since they didnot have anything at home to
offer. This year's monsoon did not give them sufficient enough to
get back the seeds they had sown. Then I was almost
translocated(in my thought) to that cold and indifferent night in
Bethlehem of 2000 years ago. I was getting probably a glimpse of
the original Christmas; its pain and perhaps a shade of the
poverty at Bethlehem. I was trying in my homily to tell them that
the Creator God can again be born in the midst of their actual
poverty. But the expressions on their faces seemed to remain
stoic and unconvinced. I felt my own helplessness; they were
feeling their own helplessness; and God seemed to be expressing
His own helplessness, too. God seems to be almost chronically
prone to express more often His powerlessness and helplessness
than His power and might. He expressed His powerlessness most
powerfully on the cross of His Son.
As we cycled back to the parish at around 2.00 O'clock with empty
stomachs, I inquired my companion sister shether she felt hungry.
Quitely did she affirm. Within me, I thanked the almighty God
for giving me a taste of pain of Bethlehem, and for His unnoticed
and unrecognized presence in the most unexpected and the cruelest
situation. This is Immanuel, -- not just God is with us; but He
suffers with us our own pain in the sublet way, not even letting
us know that He is suffering with us; lest we feel weak. In our
sufferings He seems to remain silent and absent to make us feel
strong with ourselves.

Dear friends this letter very much inspirated me a I cried
in thinking of the Lords Love. I got this letter in the day of
Christmas, and I also experienced that Lord is with our poverty.
We have to pray for his parish for the second retreat will start
from tommorrow.

With Love Prayers
ur Brother in Lord

Dear Netizens in Christ,

I agree with Shaji on the said subject. Of late,
some mails are with harsh tone. Since we are a loving

careful and eschew 'words' in our mails which may hurt
our brothers and sisters.
