Dear Friends,
I hope the following exhortation from St. John Vianney warm your heart
and soul as it did mine.
God bless
Shaji Chacko, Dubai

12kb jpg Saint John Mary Baptiste Vianney portrait painting, artist
unknownOur Lord is hidden there, waiting for us to come and visit Him,
and make our request to Him. See how good He is! He accommodates Himself
to our weakness. In Heaven, where we shall be glorious and triumphant,
we shall see him in all His glory. If He had presented Himself before us
in that glory now, we should not have dared to approach Him; but He
hides Himself, like a person in a prison, who might say to us, You do
not see me, but that is no matter; ask of me all you wish and I will
grant it. He is there in the Sacrament of His love, sighing and
interceding incessantly with His Father for sinners. To what outrages
does He not expose Himself, that He may remain in the midst of us! He is
there to console us; and therefore we ought often to visit Him. How
pleasing to Him is the short quarter of an hour that we steal from our
occupations, from something of no use, to come and pray to Him, to visit
Him, to console Him for all the outrages He receives! When He sees pure
souls coming eagerly to Him, He smiles upon them. They come with that
simplicity which pleases Him so much, to ask His pardon for all sinners,
for the outrages of so many ungrateful men. What happiness do we not
feel in the presence of God, when we find ourselves alone at His feet
before the holy tabernacles! Come, my soul, redouble thy fervour; thou
art alone adoring thy God. His eyes rest upon thee alone. This good
Saviour is so full of love for us that He seeks us out everywhere.

Ah! if we had the eyes of angels with which to see Our Lord Jesus
Christ, who is here present on this altar, and who is looking at us, how
we should love Him! We should never more wish to part from Him. We
should wish to remain always at His feet; it would be a foretaste of
Heaven: all else would become insipid to us. But see, it is faith we
want. We are poor blind people; we have a mist before our eyes. Faith
alone can dispel this mist. Presently, my children, when I shall hold
Our Lord in my hands, when the good God blesses you, ask Him then to
open the eyes of your heart; say to Him like the blind man of Jericho,
O Lord, make me to see! If you say to Him sincerely, Make me to see!
you

[JOYnet] Second Sunday:the call

2003-01-19 Thread KC
This is a homily from a priest friend of ours for today's readings.

Enjoy

Shaji Chacko, Dubai

SECOND SUNDAY IN Ordinary Time

1. There is something wonderful about the WORD OF GOD. You can read it
again and again, and there is always something new. Perhaps it is
because we are constantly changing and hence the Word of God has a
different message for us. We have all read the Story of Samuel so many
times, we have sung the beautiful song: Here I am Lord - so too the
Story of Andrew and John going to visit Jesus in the Gospel of St. John.
In our culture and tradition we are always eager
to do some action, do something important
to say something profound
Have you noticed, that in neither of these stories is there a CALL to do
anything. It is just a call, just an invitation.. But both these calls
seem to echo John Milton's beautiful words on His Blindness: They also
serve who only Stand and Wait.

2. In the past, the word Vocation usually brought to mind the Call to be
a Priest or a Religious sister or brother. As we grew in the
understanding of Vocation , Married Couples also claimed the vocation
for their State of Life. Finally, as in the fullness of time: we have
realised, not as a concession, but as a sign of maturity - that Single
People have a Call to live out in a special way their own Relationship
with God. As we grown in Wisdom and Understanding, we look at Vocation,
or Call as extended to all men and women - not just limited to the
Christian Community. A call to all men and women to come into
relationship with God.

3. The humour of God is as we have seen in these two stories is that God
rarely calls us directly. God uses other persons in our lives and in our
neighbourhood to invite us. In our first reading: Eli the High priest
had to discern through the different times Samuel approached him, that
there was a CALL from God. Eli also had to discern how Samuel was to
answer this call. In our Gospel, it is John the Baptist who points his
two disciples in the direction of Jesus. And at the next stage: it is
Andrew who draws his brother Peter to his call.

4. And if you read carefully, it is not a call to the priesthood or even
a call to service. The two senses that are used are the Ears and Eyes.
Speak Lord for your servant is listening. And to Andrew and John, Jesus
says Come and see.
Our culture is prone to do something spectacular, wonderful and say
something profound. None of these senses are called for. Quite the
contrary: Keep your mouth shut and listen. Be still and know that the
Lord is near.

5. As I said, none of the calls were to the Priesthood. The story of
Samuel is typical of four Stories in the scriptures. One in the New
Testament and three in the Old Testament:
Story of Abraham and Sarah - with son Isaac
genesis 21
Story of Manoah and Zorah -with son Samsonjudges 13
Story of Elkanah and Hannah -with son Samuel I Samuel 3
Story of Elizabeth and Zech - with son John the Baptist.Luke 1
In each of these stories, you have a woman who is barren or past the age
of childbearing. This is considered a curse according to their religious
and cultural traditions. There is a manifestation or epiphany of the
Lord. The woman conceives and the Son that is born is dedicated to the
Lord. But not necessarily as a priest.
In the case of Isaac he was the fulfilment of the promises made
In the case of Samson he was judge of the people of Israel
In the case of Samuel he was a king maker and priest
In the case of John he was the Herald of the Messiah.

6. And so the call goes out to us... each and everyone. It is a call to
intimacy and relationship - not do something. Jesus called his
Disciples, by human terms we could have advised Jesus to do better. He
could have called the Pharisees, and Herod and Pilate... He would have
had Wealth, Power and Influence. But God has other ideas. When God
chooses, God chooses for fidelity not for success. God will achieve the
Success in due time, and in manner which we cannot understand.
A good example of failure is Jesus himself: three years of teaching, a
bunch of rag tag uneducated men, who all run away, one even betrays him.
And Jesus himself ends up hung like a common criminal on the cross. By
human standards, by society's way of life, this is a failure, a lost of
cause. And yet no man or woman has changed and continues to change the
lives of so many people even today.

7. The Lord told the man he had work for him to do. He was to push
against the rock with all his might.
The man did this day after day, week after week, year after year.
Why kill myself over this? he thought. I'll just put in my time,
giving just the minimum effort; and that will be good enough.
One day he decided to make it a matter of prayer and take his
troubled thoughts to the Lord. Lord, he said, I have laboured
long and hard in your service, Yet, after all this time, I have not
even budged that rock.

The Lord responded

[JOYnet] Prayer of Cardinal Newman (which was said by Mother Teresa)

2003-01-17 Thread KC
Dear Jesus,

Help me to spread thy fragrance everywhere I go; flood my soul with thy
spirit and life; penetrate and possess my whole being so utterly that
all my life may only be a radiance of thine; shine through me and be so
in me that every soul I come in contact with may feel thy presence in my
soul.

Let them look up and see no longer me, but only Jesus. Stay with me and
then I shall begin to shine as thou shinest, so to shine as to be a
light to others. The light, O Jesus, will be all from thee; none of it
will be mine. It will be thou shining on others through me. Let me thus
praise thee in the way thou dost love best by shining on those around
me. Let me preach thee, without preaching, not by words but by my
example, by the catching force, the sympathetic influence of what I do,
the evident fullness of the love my heart bears to thee. Amen

[JOYnet] Time for action!

2003-01-17 Thread KC
My Dear Friends,

Yes, all the 1000 + of you!!!

In our Evangelization and Re-evangelization efforts within our Church,
Jesus Youth have always used and relied upon Renewal Publications and
Magazines. The oldest is our JeevaJwala magazine. The other one is
Kairos Magazine for Youth. Today it is much different in its appearance
and contents than the beginning issues. If you have ever felt that it
could improve, you are right! It surely can improve. What can you and I
do to get that done??? Let us be PROACTIVE and take some steps right
away.

Our JY friends Shaji Scaria, and Manoj Sunny (KST members) both
mentioned to us when they came to Dubai that both the magazines need
help. Whilst there are many other Renewal and Christian magazines
around, and Praise God for the good work they are achieving, let us take
the initiative to support our JeevaJwala Kairos Magazine too. To make
it in the most presentable layout with quality paper and printing we
need more, I mean M-O-R-E subscriptions! I suggest we take up this
mandate and share this call on behalf of KST and our JY evangelistic
efforts, to conduct a Subscription Drive. Just some simple steps to be
followed:

For those in India:
1. The annual subscription for JeevaJwala Magazine is Rs. 60.00 and
for Kairos Magazine is Rs. 70.00. If you and your family is not yet a
subscriber, this is the time to subscribe the magazine. Spending Rs.
130.00 for such a cause will not be a material loss but definitely a
spiritual gain.

2. If you already have subscribed to both the magazines, you have
done well! Now, you need to spread the good news by sponsoring/gifting
to a few of your friends and relatives, whom you really wish had a
chance to read these magazines.

For those who are working and earning, I believe you could set apart
Rs.130.00 from your monthly tithes if you really wish. Then you will see
your money working for the best business - The Kingdom business and you
a shareholder of a spiritually profitable enterprise!!!

For those outside India:

1. Rs. 130.00 subscription hopefully is not a big sum when you
convert it into Dollars, Pounds, Rands, Ringgits, Dirhams, Rials, or
Dinars or other currencies that I have missed out. Therefore you could
probably send a few subscriptions - to yourself in the country where you
work, family back home (Kasargod to Thiruvananthapuram and to the rest
of the Malayalam speaking places), your relatives, friends etc.

However I am aware that in some countries in the Gulf, it is difficult
to get the magazines due to the existing rules and we cannot subscribe
and get the magazines by post. Perhaps, we should sacrifice subscription
for ourselves and instead send it as a subscription to a
Village/Panchayat/local Youth club Libraries, Hostels, Parish
orphanages, School/College Libraries, Convents/Priest homes etc...

2. I don't think it is very ambitious to suggest that we should try
to send at least 10 subscriptions each per person from abroad, i.e., 10
subscriptions for JeevaJwala Magazine 10 subscriptions for Kairos

[JOYnet] Some Thoughts!

2003-01-16 Thread KC
Hi Friends,

Been a few days since I said hello to you. I have been reading the mails
happy to see many fantastic things take shape! The sharings, ideas,
fellowship etc.

I have a few things to share, which I'll distribute in different mails.

In this mail, I must start with best wishes to the JOYnet core team, a
Well Done to Calvin for thinking of a fasting prayer at the close of
2002 and all who participated in on or the other way plus
acknowledgements to the all who suggested of monthly Prayer Day. The
Our Daily Bread is a superb reading and so also is Consolidated
Prayer Requests a beautiful thing to do.

Friends, as we move on daily in our travel to Eternity, we will be
seeing lesser and lesser of the small big problems and problematic
people! Because it is only for a short while as against the L-O-N-G
Eternity that stretches before us. When we join the Lord we'd have
wished Gosh, had I dealt with him/her or the situation, better!. Let
us remember that we talk walk the Kingdom of God. And that our FOCUS
is TO BE WITH HIM, WHO was generous enough to invite YOU ME into the
Kingdom business! There are many times we feel like kicking ourselves
for the things we do wrong - personally, spiritually and socially.
Never mind, don't take it to heart! Cry if you need to, make up with
someone, God or even yourselves, but GET GOING! Take time off to lift
your deepest sobs to HIM, who can Heal you. If you feel not understood,
misunderstood, rejected, and manipulated upon - at home, work, or even
within the Church/Renewal - take heart, you are not alone. This very
moment there might be many such people going through the same agonizing
moments as you are, all over the world! As you pray for yourself, lift
those unknown brothers sisters to the Lord too. Surely, HIS Light will
shine forth through you!

I know a person since some time and I was moved by the well balanced
personality of a person, so much so that I told him You are far more
Christian than many of us! Therefore, when others see HIS Light shining
through you me, they might say, You are a true Christian!

God Bless us all,

Shaji Chacko, Dubai

[JOYnet] A Thanksgiving!

2003-01-16 Thread KC
Dear Friends

A few months back, I'd sought intercession for one of our family
friends, a young lady - Betsy, in her late 20's perhaps, who was a
victim of a serious road accident. Her Kinetic Honda bike was hit by a
Heavy vehicle and then she was run over by an Auto Rickshaw on the
National Highway. Initially she was in a very serious condition - on
ventilator etc. and was completely bedridden and had many complications.
A few days ago, I rang up her parents and found that she was getting
better. Praise God! Now, she can be moved out of the bed to the Wheel
Chair. She's still paralyzed from her hips to legs although she can talk
and move her arms. She is in Velloor CMC Hospital now.

Her husband had come down from Saudi when she met with the accident. She
has a young Son who's looked after by the In-laws back home in Thrissur.
Her parents are looking after her in the hospital. We know this
beautiful family, where the parents worked hard and brought up the 2
girls, both of them God fearing and of excellent character. You don't
feel like going away from that household, it so loving and fun filled.
Betsy being the older child was always responsible, looked after her
younger sister, very studious and got excellent grades.

When I rang up Betsy lying face down on the bed soon after the accident,
I joked with her to lift her spirits, she was happy. But tears filled up
my eyes, when she told me in confident voice that she believes God has a
purpose to be fulfilled through her suffering.

Friends, I want to thank all of you who had prayed for her earlier. I
request you and your prayer group friends to please continue praying for
Betsy, her husband, the little one, her sister and both the families to
brave through the tragedy and be strengthened in hope.

If you any of you feel like sharing your reflections or thoughts on this
share, please feel free to do so that it encourages and builds up all of
us.

Love n God bless

[JOYnet] A Prayer to the Holy Spirit

2002-12-29 Thread KC
Dear Friends,

Want to share with you a prayer to the Holy Spirit.

God bless,

Shaji Chacko
A Prayer by Isidore, written for a provincial council in AD 619 (found
in *Documents of Vatican II*, p. xxii)
We are here before you, O Holy Spirit, conscious of our innumerable
sins, but united in a special way in your holy Name. Come and abide with
us.
Deign to penetrate our hearts. Be the guide of our actions, indicate the
path we should take, and show us what we must do so that, with your
help, our work may be in all things pleasing to you.
May you be our only inspiration and the overseer of our intentions, for
you alone possess a glorious Name together with the Father and the Son.
May you, who are infinite justice, never permit that we be disturbers of
justice. Let not our ignorance induce us to evil, nor flattery sway us,
nor moral and material interest corrupt us.
But unite our hearts to you alone, and do it strongly so that, with the
gift of your grace, we may be one in you and may in nothing depart from
the truth. Thus, united in your Name, may we in our every action follow
the dictates of your mercy and justice, so that today and always our
judgments may not be alien to you and in eternity we may obtain the
unending reward of our actions. Amen.

[JOYnet] Excerpt of A Preparation for confession by St. John Kronstadt (1829 - 1908)

2002-11-24 Thread KC
Dear friends,

A prayerful preparation for confession, for us to ponder upon! May it
evoke true repentance in us.

God bless us all,

Shaji Chacko

A Preparation for Confession - By St. John of Kronstadt (1829 - 1908)

I, a sinful soul, confess to our Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ, all
of my evil acts which I have done, said or thought from baptism even
unto this present day.
I have not kept the vows of my baptism, but have made myself unwanted
before the face of God.
I have sinned before the Lord by lack of faith and by doubts concerning
the Orthodox Faith and the Holy Church; by ungratefulness for all of
God's great and unceasing gifts; His long-suffering and His providence
for me, a sinner; by lack of love for the Lord, as well as fear, through
not fulfilling the Holy Commandments of God and the canons and rules of
the Church.
I have not preserved a love for God and for my neighbor nor have I made
enough efforts, because of laziness and lack of care, to learn the
Commandments of God and the precepts of the Holy Fathers.
I have sinned: by not praying in the morning and in the evening and in
the course of the day; by not attending the services or by coming to
Church only half-heartedly, lazily and carelessly; by conversing during
the services, by not paying attention, letting my mind wander and by
departure from the Church before the dismissal and blessing.
I have sinned by judging members of the clergy.
I have sinned by not respecting the Feasts, breaking the Fasts, and by
immoderation in food and drink.
I have sinned by self-importance, disobedience, willfulness,
self-righteousness, and the seeking of approval and praise.
I have sinned by unbelief, lack of faith, doubts, despair, despondency,
abusive thoughts, blasphemy and swearing.
I have sinned by pride, a high opinion of my self, narcissism, vanity,
conceit, envy, love of praise, love of honors, and by putting on airs.
I have sinned: by judging, malicious gossip, anger, remembering of
offenses done to me, hatred and returning evil for evil; by slander,
reproaches, lies, slyness, deception and hypocrisy; by prejudices,
arguments, stubbornness, and an unwillingness to give way to my
neighbor; by gloating, spitefulness, taunting, insults and mocking; by
gossip, by speaking too much and by empty speech.
I have sinned by unnecessary and excessive laughter, by reviling and
dwelling upon my previous sins, by arrogant behavior, insolence and lack
of respect.
I have sinned by not keeping my physical and spiritual passions in
check, by my enjoyment of impure thoughts, licentiousness and unchastity
in thoughts, words and deeds.
I have sinned by lack of endurance towards my illnesses and sorrows, a
devotion to the comforts of life and by being too attached to my
parents, children, relatives and friends.
I have sinned by hardening my heart, having a weak will and by not
forcing myself to do good.
I have sinned by miserliness, a love of money, the acquisition of
unnecessary things and immoderate attachment to things.
I have sinned by self-justification, a disregard for the admonitions of
my conscience and failing to confess my sins through negligence or false
pride.
I have sinned many times by my Confession: belittling, justifying and
keeping silent about sins.
I have sinned against the Most-holy and Life-creating Mysteries of the
Body and Blood of our Lord by coming to Holy Communion without humility
or the fear of God.
I have sinned in deed, word and thought, knowingly and unknowingly,
willingly and unwillingly, thoughtfully and thoughtlessly, and it is
impossible to enumerate all of my sins because of their multitude. But I
truly repent of these and all others not mentioned by me because of my
forgetfulness and I ask that they be forgiven through the abundance of
the Mercy of God.

[JOYnet] A Jesus Youth Joke and our Questions Answers

2002-11-13 Thread KC
Friends,

A JY joke from our earlier years!

A Young person's soul after death was offered a chance to choose Heaven
or Hell. Each place had a brief Show highlighting their Lifestyles.
While Heaven was a serene place with worship music to be, Hell was very
KOOL, with people having Internet in Deluxe A/C suites and partying in
loud exciting music in discotheques. Obviously the soul chose Hell over
Heaven.

Reaching there, it was shocked at the deception! It WAS Hell!
Whew, the Audio-Visual Ministry!

Well, it is really good that some of us request for clarification on
certain areas such as Vaastu Shastra etc...! These days in most
Newspapers, Magazines and websites you find such things of Ancient
Wisdom getting much discussed. One truly is left to wonder if it is
true or false, right or wrong. The reason is the mainly due to the
seemingly knowledgeable presentation of the subject.

It is in this background that I'd like to draw your attention to Half
Truths. What are they?

They are statements made with a sprinkling of Science, Facts, and
Testimonials as perceived by the advocates of such beliefs. However the
KEY distinctive factor is that such statements as a WHOLE are never
True! It is never black or white, will always have shade of either!
Because you could never link it successfully to the teachings and
traditions of Church and to the Word of God!

There might be examples of Vaastu Shastra which have some common-sense
in it, but certainly not all of it. In the form of Aesthetic culture,
that inculcates a sense of beauty and order, certain New Age practices
seep into our midst. E.g., Feng Shui and so on. They come in forms of
new Knowledge Science, Art etc. However, we need to be cautious but not
alarmed about possible deceptions, and discuss it with those whom we
trust to have sound Christian judgment.

REMEMBER:

ONLY,
Jesus is The Way, The Truth and The Life (John 14:6)

God Bless us all,

Shaji Chacko

[JOYnet] The Roller Coaster Ride

2002-10-28 Thread KC
Dear Friends,

Reading Tools Presence of Our loving God from Biju, I am prompted to
share a reflection with you.

Can you ever forget your first the Roller Coaster ride? Or the Giant
wheel ride?! There was much excitement surrounding it. It was with much
excitement that you'd have bought a ticket for yourself and your friend
from the counter. And then the next thing you know is that you are
sitting in the bucket chair with the safety strap on. As it takes you
up, you feel elevated as indeed you are. Such fun! But then, you reach
the top of the curve and you see the world around you for a brief
moment.

Soon as you have just enjoyed it, suddenly you feel pushed down with
such force that you begin go down and you hear screams all around you!
Your scream dies in the din! You can't wait till the ride reaches down
so that you can get out of the tremendous fall. Once you reach the
bottom point then again the coaster despite its twists and turns takes
you up for the next down slide.

Sometimes our spiritual life seems like this. Knocks us out when we
think the going is good. And when we think we are completely exhausted
the Power of God empowers us to come up with tremendous energy. It is so
difficult in the workaholic, hectic life that most of us take to, to
understand why, after all, WHY, the humps and bumps and U turns are
there on the road of earthly journey.

We forget. It's not an earthly journey. It always had been the Spiritual
journey. We tend to forget our destination. On our pilgrimage on earth,
our Lord needs to empower me and you, for the final destination. The
meaning of our existence. That we may be made worthy of the promises of
Christ.

God bless us all,

[JOYnet] RE: Christian Sensitivity! Shalom Editorial

2002-10-23 Thread KC
Dear Friends,

Perhaps, one of the things that make or break relationships, is
sensitivity or the lack of it towards the other person. Well intentioned
and sometimes, not so well - intentioned inquiries hurt people,
especially those in the same prayer group, cell or parish! You yourself
might have been a victim to this! Certain questions about family,
finance, illness ...the list goes on... Therefore, the relevance of
Benny Punnathara's (of Shalom, Calicut) article forwarded herewith

The Priest his assistant in the Good Samaritan's story who didn't help
the wounded man were right in their actions. They were not supposed to
get defiled on their way to worship God as per the Law those days.
However, Jesus had a different view. He praised the Good Samaritan - the
kind man from the enemy state of the wounded man, who was:
- Sensitive
- Kind
- Arranged to care the wounded man.

In other words, to Sympathize is all the more easy for us as Charismats
(We have a soft corner for everybody!). That's not enough of a
Christian, unfortunately! We need to Empathize. When you add an action
of Love to Sympathy, you have Empathy!

Examples we know:
Veronica wiping Jesus' face during His Passion, Mother Mary helping out
panic stricken Cana family with wine, Jesus asking the Blind beggar -
What do you want? and many more. Sometimes all we need to do is just
to make silent intercessions without asking embarrassing questions
(which satisfies a personal need the need to know it!). Jesus NEVER
asks for an account of anyone's past. He's only interested to know if
you are willing...willing to follow Him NOW...faithfully!!!

May we have His Heart and Mind to follow His Life Style!

I dedicate this mail Benny's message to all the JYs and the would be
JYs and all those who were ever hurt by our in-sensitiveness.

God bless us all,

THE HORROR IN FRIENDLY INQUIRY

Making a friendly inquiry is a good practice. But without love it may
hurt people. Consider an unmarried girl. She may not be anxious about
her marriage and may be having the faith to wait for the Lord's time,
but the painful inquiries of the people around her may hurt her heart.
Some aged women are of the habit to ask, Is your marriage not yet
settled? in public. No one is concerned about the pain these girls
undergo when they see their peers getting married. I have seen many
girls who are reluctant to go to Church for fear of questions like Is
your marriage not yet settled? or Aren't any proposals coming for
you? When they go for any marriage their acquaintances and friends
comment, Oh! I thought that you were already married. These people
don't understand the pain and hatred that would arise in the minds of
the girls on hearing such questions.
Many childless couples too bear such pains. The irrational questions of
a few regarding the childlessness hurts many a number of couples trying
to forget this pain. Did you consult a doctor? Whose problem is this?
What is the problem?- Such unrestrained inquiry without any concern for
the self-respect and feelings of the couple would arise only from a
heart without love.
Inquiry is often done as a formality and not because of any concern for
the childlessness of the couple or the problems in the marriage of a
girl. Sympathizing may not be out of love always. It may be arise from
haughtiness or hatred. Even if it is out of love, sympathizing without
prudence will only aggravate the sadness. For instance, consider a widow
who has not recovered from the demise of her husband. Usually
sympathizers come forth there.
Oh! How loving was he? God doesn't allow good people to live long. this
is fate. he looks as though he is asleep. Such comments bring back the
thoughts about the husband to the wife who would have been in the
process of recovering from the demise of her beloved. Instead of talking
on such matters, exchange a few words on the love and care of God and
his plans for our welfare. This would strengthen them to move forward in
life with confidence.
A girl who was totally blind said, Though I don't have eyesight I don't
want to live under the sympathy of anyone. I can think, dream, pray and
love people. God has blessed me with the grace to recognize sound, smell
and touch. I am not an unfortunate person as such. Oh, my girl, how
much unfortunate are you? it is such sympathizing questions that is
making me regressive about life. It is not my blindness but the painful
words of those people who don't understand the feelings of my heart that
leaves me exhausted.
Recently the parents of a mentally retarded child said, we were heart
broken when we understood that the child is mentally retarded. We
couldn't accept the hard fact. Finally we committed ourselves to the
will of God. Today we are discovering ourselves through the child. the
birth of this child has strengthened our faith. This child

RE: [JOYnet] The Imaginary Cross

2002-10-21 Thread KC
Friends,

I thought a clarification is in order! Making the Sign of Cross is NOT
an imaginary cross. I know you didn't mean it literally!!

However, sharing on the topic it's a fact, there is nothing more real or
true than the Saving power of the Holy Cross. Cross was a device used to
torture and punish. It was the symbol of Shame, Condemnation and Pain.
Jesus' death on mine and your behalf on the Cross, made it a Saving
Grace for us all.

Therefore, each time we sign ourselves in the Name of the Father, of the
Son and of the Holy Spirit, no matter how small or big the hassles that
we confront, we will be saved. Because of the Power of the Real Cross!

God Bless

Shaji Chacko

Yeaah, thats absolutely true. I've experienced the 'power of the
imaginary cross'. I remember when i was small my mum used to draw an
imaginary cross on my forehead as well as my siblings before going to
bed later when we grew up we used to draw the same on each other's
forehead. As Priya mentioned we really can experience the wonderful
protection of our Saviour.
Nice to know that JOYnet(sorry, WE) are celebrating our 4th birthday.
Lets all praise God for this wonderful gift. Its really nice to be a
part of God's own love community.

I wondered and asked : Why have you done that?
Ohhh, Its simply to give protection to my kid
I too agreed, since I know well about Cochin corporation water.

Days passed The way which I used to go to school was an area
where
we can find many street dogs. About dogs -I'm too much scared about this
species. My fear of dog is proverbial, my friends and relatives used to
tease me for that. Really an area where I needed inner healing :)
There were many times these street dogs came near to me, blocked my way
and
even tried to lick my feet. I wanted to help myself out from these dogs
but
was helpless as there was no other option to reach school.

After a week, somehow The Imaginary Cross of my friend came to my
mind. I
decided to try that method. Nextday, as I was going school I saw a dog
coming from a distance. Yes the same one which excorted me the previous
day
to the school premises ; Suddenly I put an Imaginary Cross on its
forehead.

My friends you won't believe, that dog didn't disturb me that day. My
confidence doubled and I began to use the same method every morning when
I
go to school.

Now a days where ever I face problems or where ever I need protection or
when ever I lack courage I put Imaginary Cross on my problems, on my
things, and even on the other person
Its very simple to draw an Imaginary Cross, but the confidence and
protection it gives is immense. You too can try this method and find out
the
difference!

Annie Berly, Thanks a lot for teaching me this wonderful method!

Let's pray that each of us be blessed by the Holy Spirit with a passion
to bring about the Kingdom. Sometimes, it could be the silent prayers of
our souls and the whispers of our heart. Other times, it could be
un-appreciated and un-noticed hard work - at home, work, community,
public place wherever.
And on other occasions it could be our faith sharing - in words or deeds
or both! Can't forget the exemplary Human beings who went ahead of us,
who were actually Humane Beings whom we - the Church, honour now as
Saints.

God Bless us all,

Love,

Shaji Chacko, Dubai

[JOYnet] Blessings! Ask for them!

2002-10-20 Thread KC
Dear Friends,

I came across a pleasant and thoughtful little article. It seemed
worthwhile to invite you to check it out. As each of us engage everyday
in building the Kingdom of God in around us, a deeper perception of
our Daddy God is truly edifying.

Go Ahead and Ask! (Prayer of Jabez)
1 Chronicles 4:10a
Last week we began looking into the prayer of Jabez for a deeper
understanding of how to pray and gain a fuller blessed life.
Frequently these short cameo appearances by seemingly unknowns reveal
deeper insights into the word of God. -- Carl Hagensick
* Jabez believed God hears and answers the prayers of His own.
* Jabez left the answering of his requests up to God.
* Jabez wanted to be more and do more for God.
With those revealed insights in mind and heart let's venture into the
four part prayer of Jabez with the first request asking to be blessed.
Have you asked God to bless you of late? Probably so . because we are
people who ask God to bless, the missionaries in the world, to bless our
kids, to bless our food and even our sneezes!
So maybe the better question is . Have we watered down the emphasis and
impact of what it is to be blessed by God? Probably so . and with it we
make vague and general requests of God with no desperate cry of the
heart as we hear from the mouth of Jabez.
Blessed means (barak) . to invoke divine favor upon . to bring the
benefits of God upon.
Bruce Wilkinson suggests . To bless in the biblical sense means to ask
for or to impart supernatural favor. When we ask for God's blessing,
we're not asking for more of what we could get for ourselves.
Asking to be blessed is asking for the unlimited and unfathomable riches
of God's goodness to laid upon our lives . that take us into realms that
are beyond the temporal of our lives.
Proverbs 10:22 GWT It is the Lord's blessing that makes a person rich,
and hard work adds nothing to it.
To seek the blessings of God has nothing to do with you and has
everything to do with God.
* The Lord will bless His people with peace . Psalm 29:11b
* For those blessed by Him shall inherit the earth . Psalm
37:22a
To ask for the blessings of God is asking for Nothing more and nothing
less than what God wants for us. -- Bruce Wilkinson
So with that qualifying thought in mind . go ahead and ask . recognizing
your need to be blessed, the One who will bless you, knowing with
certainty you will be blessed.
1 Chronicles 4:10a And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, Oh,
that You would bless me indeed,

1. Go Ahead and Ask ... Recognizing the Need to Be Blessed
Jabez prayed . Oh, that You would bless me indeed
As Jabez looked at his own existence . perhaps thinking that there had
to be more to his life that what he had lived to this point .and cried
out, Oh bless me!
* His cry was in recognition of the need to be blessed.
* His cry was an attempt to receive the supernatural favor of
God.
Circumstances may appear to wreck our lives, but God is not helpless
among the ruins. Our broken lives are not lost or useless. God's love is
still working. He comes in and takes the calamity and uses it
victoriously, working out his wonderful plan of love. -- Eric Liddell
in Disciplines of the Christian Life
Jabez . his name meaning pain and sorrow . recognized at some point in
his life he needed God working heartily in his life . something he could
not gain on his own.
Do the circumstances of your life lead you to encounter God for the soul
purpose of securing not the tangible things of this life . but the
weightier and eternal work in your life that only God can produce?
There's another man in the Bible who sought to be blessed by God. Jacob
. his name meaning supplanter or one who tricks . had tricked his
brother out of the blessing of birthright. In fear he fled and now
years later he is coming to meet his brother to make reconciliation of
the relationship. In Genesis 32 . we find him alone with God.
Genesis 32:24-28 Then Jacob was left alone; and a Man wrestled with him
until the breaking of day. 25 Now when He saw that He did not prevail
against him, He touched the socket of his hip; and the socket of Jacob's
hip was out of joint as He wrestled with him. 26 And He said, Let Me
go, for the day breaks. But he said, I will not let You go unless You
bless me! 27 So He said to him, What is your name? He said, Jacob.
28  And He said, Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel;
for you have struggled with God and with men, and have prevailed.
* Jacob was alone with God.
* Jacob recognized and desired to be blessed by God.
* Jacob wrestled with God.
* God allowed Himself to be overcome by Jacob.
* God changed Jacob's name . and future. (Jacob to Israel .
meaning he persists with God and prevails)
Are you a Jabez or a Jacob . recognizing your need to be blessed with
