Pope (fwd) Date: Wed, 19 Mar 2003 12:41:45 +0530 (IST)His
Holiness is specifically requesting that we pray for him in the
Knowledge that his time among us is limited. By the same token, email is
such a powerful tool for calling for help in praying an Our Father
for him, which is all that will save him, and that we forward this to
as many people around the world as is possible. Please don't forget to
include him in your prayers, as well as forwarding this email. 1. Pope
John Paul made this request about 3 weeks ago on praying the Angelus
before the pilgrims in St. Peter's Square. He says that only through
prayer will he be given strength from those who prayed. Let us help
the Pope, whose prayers have helped so many of us. 2. Please send this
to all your friends. 3. With your cooperation, in just a few days,
millions of human beings willhave offered their prayers for
John Paul II, and by the same token, offered their prayers to God. Let
us never forget the power of prayer.

Subject: The Other Woman

The Other Woman - Courtesy Vishwanath

After 21 years of marriage, I discovered a new way of keeping alive the spark
of love. A little while ago I had started to go out with another woman. It was
really my wife's idea. I know that you love her, she said one day, taking me
by surprise. But I love YOU, I protested. I know, but you also love her.

The other woman that my wife wanted me to visit was my mother, who has been
a widow for 19 years, but the demands of my work and my three children had
made it possible to visit her only occasionally. That night I called to invite
her to
go out for dinner and a movie. What's wrong, are you well, she asked? My
mother is the type of woman who suspects that a late night call or a surprise
invitation is a sign of bad news. I thought that it would be pleasant to pass
some time with you, I responded. Just the two of us. She thought about it
for a moment then said I would like that very much.

That Friday after work, as I drove over to pick her up I was a bit nervous.
When I arrived at her house, I noticed that she, too, seemed to be nervous
about our date. She waited in the door with her coat on. She had curled her
hair and was wearing the dress that she had worn to celebrate her last wedding
anniversary. She smiled from a face that was as radiant as an angel's. I told
my friends that I was going to go out with my son, and they were impressed,
she said, as she got into the car. They can't wait to hear about our
meeting.

We went to a restaurant that, although not elegant, was very nice and cozy. My
mother took my arm as if she were the First Lady. After we sat down, I had to
read the menu. Her eyes could only read large print. Half way through the
entree, I lifted my eyes and saw Mom sitting there staring at me. A nostalgic
smile was on her lips. It was I who used to have to read the menu when you
were small!, she said. Then it's time that you relax and let me return the
favor, I responded.

During the dinner we had an agreeable conversation - nothing extraordinary -
but catching up on recent events of each others life. We talked so much that
we missed the movie. As we arrived at her house later, she said I'll go out
with you again, but only if you let me invite you. I agreed.

How was your dinner date? asked my wife when I got home. Very nice. Much
more so than I could have imagined, I answered.

A few days later my mother died of a massive heart attack. It happened so
suddenly that I didn't have a chance to do anything for her. Some time later,
I received an envelope with a copy of a restaurant receipt from the same place
mother and I had dined. An attached note said: I paid this bill in advance. I
was almost sure that I couldn't be there but, never-the-less, I paid for two
plates - one for you and the other for you wife. You will never know what that
night meant for me. I love you.

At that moment I understood the importance of saying, in time: I LOVE YOU
and to give our loved ones the time that they deserve. Nothing in life is more
important than your family. Give them the time they

Dear Jy's,
Finally the biopsy report of my wife has come.
Doctor has explained to me as follows.
He says that there are three stages.
1) Normal stage
2) Abnormal stage
3) Cancer stage.
From the second stage it seems 10 % people do recover
and go back to the Normal stage.
Remaining 90% it seems proceed towards the Cancer
stage.
My wife happens to be in the second stage and the
doctor will be observing her for the next two months
to see where the developments lead to.
Once again I request all of you to pray that my wife
may recover unto the Will of our Lord and for HIS
Glory Amen.
I also thank you all for your prayers and also for
writing to me.I express my inability to thank each of
you individually.
May our Lord bless you all.
With prayerful wishes,
Greg

LUCIA REVEALS THE THIRD SECRET OF
 FATIMA
 Independently of any Creed or
 Religion, is better to
 be prepared and be in
good terms with GOD, though we
 never know when we
 will be leaving this
 world...

 THE LAST SECRET OF FATIMA

   The church has given permission
 to reveal to the
 people the last part of
 the message. The Blessed Virgin
 appeared to three
 children in Fatima,
Portugal in 1917. This is a
 proven fact. One of
 these children is still
alive, her name is Lucia, and she
 is a recluse nun
 and lives in a European
 monastery.

   Lucia disclosed the message for
 the first time to
 Pope Pio XXII whom,
 after
reading it sealed and stored it
 away without making
 it public. Later John
XXIII read it and in the same
 manner as his
 predecessor, kept it out of
public eye because he knew that
 once revealed, it
 will bring desperation
 and
 panic to human kind.

Now the time has come and
 permission has been
 granted from Pope John Paul
 II
to reveal it to the children of God
 in order not to
 create panic but to
 make
 people aware of this important
 message so everybody
 can be prepared.

 The Virgin told Lucia:

Go my child and tell the world
 what will come to
 pass during the years
 1950
 - 2001. Men are not practicing
 the Commandments
 that our father has given
us. Evil is governing the world
 and is harvesting
 hate and resentment all
 over. Men will fabricate mortal
 weapons that will
 destroy the world in
minutes and half of the human race
 will be
 destroyed. The war will begin
against Rome and there will be
 conflicts amongst
 religious orders.

 God will allow all natural
 phenomenon like smoke,
 hale, cold, water, fire,
 flood, earthquakes winds and
 inclement weather will
 slowly batter the
planet. These things will come to
 pass in the year
 2002. Thos who does not
believe, this is the time. Your
 beloved mother
 tells you - those lacking
 charity towards others and those
 who do not love thy
 neighbor like my
beloved Son has loved you all
 cannot survive. They
 will wish to have died.
 Millions are imaginable, they will
 come and there is
 no doubt. Our Lord
 God
will punish severely those who do
 not believe in
 him, those who despite him
and those who did not have time for
 him. I call
upon all of you to come to
my son Jesus Christ. God helps
 the world but all of
 those who do not show
 fidelity and loyalty will be
 destroyed.

Father Agustin who lives in Fatima
 said that Pope
 Paul VI gave him
 permission to visit Sister Lucia
 who is a recluse
 nun (she does not leave
the monastery nor is allowed to
 receive any
 visitors). Father Agustin

2002-07-27 Thread greg dsilva

The Lord spoke to Moses(saying)
Set the fiftieth year apart
and proclaim freedom to all
During this year
anyone who has been sold as slave
shall return to his family
The whole year shall be sacred to you.

The fifieth year was called the 'jubilee year'
The word jubilee comes from the Hebrew word Jubel,
the horn that was blown to announce the start of the
year,
With the start of the year all debts were cancelled,
Jesus used the idea of the 'jubilee year'
to teach people of the 'messianic age'
which began with His coming(Luke 4.18)
His coming meant that the spiritual debts of all
people were cancelled,
and that all people were freed from the slavery of
Satan and sin.

What am I doing with my new freedom ?

The rise of the second Adam[Jesus]

1)As a child I remember the priest offering mass by
facing the main alter.Today he faces the people.
2)The Holy Eucharist was celebrated in latin
only.Today the church has changed its attitude towards
this and so we find that if you go to gujarat the mass
is celebrated in Gujarati. In Goa it is in Konkani and
so on.
3)In the past on Good Friday people mostly would
dressup in black.Today the church is emphasizing that
it is not a day to be sad but instead to be happy
because it is due to good friday that the doors of
Heaven were opened and Easter Sunday followed.
4)Alowing Lay people to distribute Holy Communion.
Earlier only consecrated hands were supposed to touch
the Tebernacle.
5)Fulfilling the obligation i.e. Sunday Mass. Today
the church allows you to go for Mass on Saturdays to
fulfill your Sunday obligation.
6)Today even if you attend a funeral mass on Sunday,or
a mass celebrated for christening, you need not go for
a special or routine mass held as per church timings
on that Sunday.
7)In Goa most of the churches have the Passion of
Christ celebrated during Lent with the statue of
Christ posing in different forms thus giving us a
deeper meaning and understanding of the sufferings
undergone by christ for our sake. But today the new
churches built in Goa and are doing away with this
system, all because the church has decided to change
with the present times.
8)Having death anniversary masses and blessing of the
graves is now restricted to the first year only.So
much so that the church discourages to offer masses
for the dead with the title like third death

on,but instead the church says this mass is offered
for the soul of so and so.
9)Distributing Holy communion on the palm rather than
the tongue is a vital change.
10)Priests are given the facility to move around like
civilians with pants, shirts and t-shirts.(The choice
being totally of the priest)as compared to the past
when we always found them with cassocks.
11)Nuns are also given the facilty to change to sarees
and skirt-blouses.
12)Earlier if a nun had to leave her congregation she
had to wait after intimation of her desire, till it was
confirmed by the Pope.Today she can just intimate and
leave.No need to wait.
So Nandita,I think I have expressed quite a bit and to
cut short I would like to say BYE,but before that I
would like to tell you that a Cynod has taken place in
Goa last month almost after 50 years. One of the
aspects of the Cynod was to discuss the various
changes required by the Church for the benefit of
laity.
WITH THIS I WISH YOU ALL THE VERY BEST FOR THE DEBATE.

Re: [JOYnet] WHAT ACCORDING TO YOU IS INTIMACY WITH CHRIST ? ? ?

2002-03-11 Thread greg dsilva

Dear Jason,
Yesterday Mr.Joseph wrote in ODB dt.11/03/02 about a
violinist who was playing before an audience when one
string broke. As he continued playing two more strings
snapped and he was left with only one string left to
complete his presentation. He did complete it with that
one string left on his violin.
So also when Paul and Silas were imprisoned, instead of
being sad and meditating over their situation they
sang praises and prayed to the Lord.In the bargain the
jailer and his entire household were converted and
baptised.
In PARABLENET to we find Irma giving an instance of
Suffering for the Salvation of Others. Here a man was
beaten by his friend(a captian)for his catholic faith
which made the girlfriend of the captian to stay away
from the captian. But this man rushes whole heartedly
to help his friend(captian)when he is beaten and
fallen on the ground. The captian is moved beyond
understanding to realise how this friend of his could
help him when he himself had harmed him so much. The
result was that the captian accepted Christ.
With the above I would like to sum up saying that to
love God and to show this practically amongst your
fellowmen,by forgetting yourself as the first priority
is INTIMACY WITH CHRIST.

I HOPE there is some light thrown on the subject you
mentioned.
with love and prayerful wishes,
GREG

can also get mushy with Christ. And that is one of
 the special highlights of
sharing an intimacy with Christ. Psalm 63 gives us
 exactly an example of such
 Intimacy:

[JOYnet] Re:Re:(JOYNET)WOMAN'S DAY

2002-03-08 Thread greg dsilva

Dear Jason,
Thanks for your message, its interesting. With this I am
sharing two thoughts that have come to my mind.
1)When is MAN'S day celebrated? We also should give
women a chance to wish us for the difference we have
made in their lives.
2)IT IS SAID(I do not know for sure)but it is
said, that when God created man He rested for a
while. After that He created woman and since then till
today neither has God rested nor is man resting.
THANKS TO THE WOMAN'S ERA THAT has KEPT AND IS STILL
KEEPING GOD AND MAN CONSTANTLY BUSY.
BYE,
WITH LOVE,
GREG

2002-02-28 Thread greg dsilva

Dear JYs,
I request all of you to pray that the riots in gujarat
stops,as the result of riots is not at all positive.
So many people will lose their lives and many be put
to hardships for no fault of theirs.I have faced many
such riots in Ahmedabad and hence the request.
Thanking You,

[JOYnet] reply TO SHIJA DANIEL

2002-02-26 Thread greg dsilva

DEAR SHIJA,
Nice to receive your e-mail and this is what I have to
say.In your e-mail you have stated that you were going
to the catholic church previously. This is one point by
itself.First try to find out how you landed in the
catholic church. Is it by chance or by birth? And also
for how long? That should display the number of years
you have been going to the Catholic church. It also
means that going to a catholic church was based on
some faith,in which you were beleiving. So analyse that
part also for yourself. The Catholic Church beleives in
Mary and till the time you left the catholic church
you were beleiving and praying to Mary and Jesus. So
once again you know why you were doing so.
Now you want to know WHY we should pray through
Mary. The answer lies within you.The fact that you were
going to the catholic church and praying to Mother
Mary in itself is a self explanatory answer to the
question you are facing today.
please do free to reciprocate,
with love and prayerful wishes,
GREG

Re: [JOYnet] Alternate explanation for Mark 6:3

2002-02-21 Thread greg dsilva

DEAR PATHROSE,
Your alternate explanation requires a clarification
with reference from the Bible,or a belief which is
accepted and preached by the Church. This topic is
purely related to faith and can lead a person to alter
his faith.
With love and prayers,
GREG
--- pathrose alphus [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:
6:3 Isn’t this the carpenter, the son5 of Mary6 and
brother of James, Joses, Judas, and Simon? And
aren’t his sisters here with us?” And they took
 offense at him.

 Friends,

This verse is subject to much debate among biblical
scholars and lay people alike. Besides the
explanation offered by Joynetters on the doubt
raised by Jannet, there is an alternate explanation,
which is based on the tradition of some Eastern
 Churches.

St.Joseph, foster father of our Lord, and his legal
father, was a widower when he became engaged to the
Blessed Virgin. The brothers and sisters mentioned
in the scipture are his children by the previous
marriage. St. Joseph led a celebate life after the
 death of his first spouse.

This explanation, I think, is easier than the
cousin theory. Jesus was considered as the son of
St. Joseph during His ministry. He was acclaimed as
the Son of David, because of his legal status as
the son of St. Joseph. So the other children of
St.Joseph will naturally be called His siblings.

I am not very sure about the official position of
the Church on this topic. Thomas Acchan and other
ordained members of the Joynet may clarify on this.
But I think that since no dogmatic statement
Ex-Cathedra is there on this topic, a Catholic is
free to take recourse in the alternate explanation
 offered.

[JOYnet] SOMETHING TO DECIDE UPON

2002-02-14 Thread greg dsilva

Hi Joynetters,
Pl.ponder on this.
They lie on the table side by side,

The Holy Bible and the TV guide.

One is well worn and cherished with pride,

Not the Bible...but the TV guide.

One is used daily to help folks decide,

No, not the Bible...but the TV guide.

As the pages are turned, what shall they see,

Oh, what does it matter, turn on the TV.

Then confusion reigns, they can't all agree,

On what they should watch on the old TV.

So they open the book in which they confide,

No, not the Bible...but the TV guide.

The word of God is seldom read,

Maybe a verse as they fall into bed.

Exhausted and sleepy and tired as can be,

Not from reading the Bible...from watching TV.

So then back to the table side by side,

Lie the Holy Bible and the TV guide.

No time for prayer, no time for the Word,

The plan of Salvation is seldom heard.

But forgiveness of sin, so full and free,

Is found in the Bible...not on TV.

[JOYnet] DOUBTS-IDOL WORSHIP

2002-02-10 Thread greg dsilva

  Dear Lukose,
Nice to have your questionaire. The little
that I know I would like to share with you.
In Ahmedabad there is a school by the name St.
 Francis
Xavier's High School, was built by the Jesuits who
 came
from Spain. The land was donated by a non
 catholic.At
the entrance of the building is a BUST of the
  gentleman who donated this land.
Further more in the same school they have something
called 'THE ROLL OF HONOUR'.This is because some
students of the school bring name and fame to the
school in public,be it in board exams or in sports
 at
the all schools level,or at the state level etc.In
this case the snaps of these students appear in the
  annual magazine.
So also in the churches we find statues of saints.
According to me the saints are honoured for their
heroic deeds done in a humble manner and for sure
 are
accepted by the church (after a lot of scrutiny) to
have entered thr kingdom of heaven.
As the saints are given this honour in public, their
statues are kept for us as a model to follow their
path,so that we attain what they have acheived.

This is my contribution towards your question. Please
let me know if there is something more fruitful.
  With love and prayerful wishes,
  GREG

Dear Joy netters,

I HAVE GOT A QUESTION.CAN ANY ONE HELP ME.
IS THERE ANY JUSTIFICATION FOR PLACING STATUES IN
CHURCHES? WHAT IS THEIR RELEVANCE WITH RESPECT TO
 OUR
 SPIRITUAL LIFE?
Of course I agree that catholic teaching does not
allow us to worship these statues. But the sad truth
is that the majority of the Catholics believe that
these statues have some power by themselves. The
authorities themselves promote this kind of worship
 in
some churches well known for the miracles performed
there. I am not giving examples.

I know that you can be an idol worshipper at heart
without worshipping a statue. Any thing that is
 given
more importance than the almighty God becomes an
 idol.
So no one can say that they are not idol
 worshippers,
including the Protestants, even though they claim
 so.
And also if our attitude towards these statues is
right, there is nothing wrong about praying before
them. But unfortunately this is not the case with
 the
 majority.

According to some, all we have to do is to make
 these
people aware that God himself is the only one worthy
to be worshipped and nothing or no one has power of
its or his own unless given by God himself.
NOW MY QUESTION IS- WHY PLACE STATUES IN THE
 CHURCHES
(CAUSING MANY TO FALL) AND LATER TEACH PEOPLE HOW
THEIR ATTITUDE TOWARDS THEM SHOULD BE? THE PRESCENCE
OF STATUES MAYNOT BE HARMLESS BY ITSELF. WHY NOT
 AVOID
THIS HARMLESS THING, WHICH CAUSES MANY TO FALL? OR
 ARE
THEY BY ANY WAY NECESSERY FOR OUR SPIRITUAL LIFE?
 ROMANS 14:13
YOU SHOULD DECIDE NEVER TO DO ANY THING THAT WOULD
MAKE YOUR BROTHER STUMBLE OR FALL INTO SIN.
 ROMANS 14:20,21
ALL FOODS MAY BE EATEN, BUT IT IS WRONG TO EAT
ANYTHING THAT WILL CAUSE SOMENE ELSE TO FALL INTO
 SIN.
THE RIGHT THING TO DO IS TO KEEP FROM EATING MEAT,
DRINKING WINE, OR DOING ANYTHING ELSE THAT WILL MAKE
 YOUR BROTHER FALL.
IF THE CASE IS SO WITH FOOD, WHAT ABOUT OTHER ONES?
  WHAT
JUSTIFICATION IS THERE FOR US FOR PERFORMING SOME
RITUALS VERY MUCH SIMILAR TO THOSE PERFOMED IN HINDU
TEMPLES? WE ALL KNOW THAT IF WE WORSHIP ANY LIVING
 OR
NONLIVING THING IT ACQUIRES POWER. IT IS SATAN WHO
GIVES THIS POWER. IF PEOPLE VISITING THE SO CALLED
PILGRIMAGE CENTRES (THOSE WHO CONSIDER JESUS AS ONLY
ONE AMONG THE GODS) RECEIVE MIRACLES, THEN CAN WE
 SAY
THAT THESE MIRACLES ARE FROM GOD? IF THOSE WHO
 BELIEVE
THAT THE STATUES HAVE A POWER OF THEIR OWN RECEIVE
MIRACLES, THEN CAN WE SAY THAT THEY ARE FROM GOD? IF
THEIR VISITING THESE CHURCHES DOES NOT MAKE THEM
ACCEPT JESUS AS THE LORD AND SAVIOUR, AS THE ONLY
 WAY,
DESPITE THE MIRACLES, CAN WE SAY THAT THESE MIRACLES
 ARE FROM GOD?

I AM NOT CRITICIZING ANY ONE. I WAS JUST SHAIRING MY
VIEWS.THEY MAY BE RIGHT OR WRONG. I COUNT ON ALL OF
YOU TO CORRECT ME IF I AM WRONG. A FELLOW BELIEVER
TOLD ME THAT THE CATHOLIC CHURCH HAD A VERY GOOD
REASON BEHIND PLACING STATUES IN THE CHURCHES. CAN
 ANY
ONE HEIP ME ON THIS SUBJECT?
 LOVE TO ALL
 Lukose.

HELLO REENY,
NICE MEETING YOU OVER THIS MAIL.
 ANSWERING YOUR DOUBT.

SAINTS ARE NOT GOD,BUT THEY ARE A MODEL FOR THE

WHY DO WE PRAY TO SAINTS? IT IS BECAUSE THEY HAVE
ALREADY ENTERED ETERNAL LIFE AFTER FULFILLING THEIR
MISSION ON EARTH AND BEING TOTALLY IN THE COMPANY OF
GOD,THEY PLEAD ON OUR BEHALF TO OUR SAVIOUR TO SAVE
US.
TAKE AN EXAMPLE OF YOUR OFFICE.IN CASE YOU WANT
LEAVE AND YOU KNOW THAT THE SITUATION IS SUCH THAT
YOUR LEAVE APPLICATION WILL BE REJECTED,THEN YOU
DEFINATELY APPROACH SOMEONE WHO IS CLOSE TO YOUR BOSS
AND YOU REQUEST THIS PERSON TO OBTAIN LEAVE FOR
YOU.AND THEN SAY YOUR LEAVE IS GRANTED SO THE PERSON
WHO HAS REQUESTED FOR YOUR LEAVE ON YOUR BEHALF IS
LIKE THE SAINT IN HEAVEN.THE SAME THING HAPPENS WHEN
WE PRAY TO THE SAINTS.
YOU CAN ALSO TELL YOUR FRIEND THAT WE PRAY TO THE
SAINTS BUT WE DO NOT ADORE THEM SO THE QUESTION OF
BREAKING ANY COMMANDMENT DOES NOT ARISE.
THERE IS ALSO A CUSTOM WHERIN WHEN A CHILD IS BORN THE
PARENTS REFER TO THE CHURCH CALENDER ON WHICH YOU CAN
FIND THE SAINT OR SAINTS WHOSE FEAST IS CELEBRATED.
AND SOME PARENTS DO CHOOSE THIS NAME FOR THEIR
CHILD,AS THEY FIRMLY WANT THEIR CHILD TO BE LIKE THAT
SAINT.ALSO THIS SAINT NOW BECOMES THE PATRON SAINT OF
THE CHILD.
REGARDING PRAYING TO THE DEAD.I CAN TELL YOU THAT YOU
CAN PRAY TO THE DEAD THAT IS YOUR NEAR AND DEAR ONES.
I KNOW OF A PRIEST WHO TOLD US IN HIS SERMON THAT
WHENEVER HE IS IN NEED OF HELP,HE FIRST PRAYS TO HIS
