Call EJBs from remote web server.

2000-08-22 Thread Ritesh_Srivastava

I am using J2EE server to deploy my Enterprise Java Beans(EJBs).Since
servlet chaining/forwarding is not supported by Tomcat we have put our
servlets on Java Web server. These servlets will do a lookup for the EJBs
residing on J2EE.The problem starts here:
How can i call the EJBs which are residing on a remote server(obviously
j2EE) from my servlets which r on JWS.
i mean how to do the lookup in servelets for the beans residing on another
server on another m/c.

Can anybody help me out?

The only one that I know of off hand that is free is Forte (found at
http://www.sun.com/forte/ffj/ce/ ). I am sure that there are many others
though. A plain text editor is all that is really needed anyway, though
 the
syntax highlighting in Forte is handy...

Anyone know of any others easy/cheap to get hold of?

Create a batch file that cd's to the startup dir os the java app, and
then calls "java appname". Then in your app call the batchfile.

Re: How to make stand alone application run on a browser using ap plet s?

2000-07-07 Thread Ritesh_Srivastava

Actually i am trying to have my stand alone java application web enabled.
Presently i am typing on the command prompt something like this:
  java AppName
Then my Application is started.
I want to start the same from the browser.
For this i have been using a servlet that has something like this :
Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec("java AppName");
This command is not working on the servlet, though the same command works
from a stand alone java client.
Can u help me into this.
If any other way is possible, can u help me.

Only a Note: May be applets may be of some help, but i have no idea about
that.

Regards,
Ritesh

I've been working with ASP for 3 year before changing recently to JSP,

 JSP Advantages:

More reliable, (ASP may look like it works but JSP/Javabeans mean
you have to catch exceptions i.e. better code)
 Faster ( really )
Object Oriented ( finally reusable code )
You can use a Debugger ( try that in ASP )
 run anywhere etc,
 Tags
 Easy DB Connection Pool
Complied Code ( Clients can't nick the source )

 JSP Disadvantages

require more expensive, good programmers where as monkeys can
 program ASP

Can someone recommend a good on-line article on pros and cons of asp v.
 jsp?

We're not too impressed with what we know about asp, seeing no advantage
over jsp and believing it may have noteworthy disadvantages.

 Any thoughts, comments are appreciated

Subject: Using J2ee with iPlanet Calendar Server?

 Hi,
I have to integrate a Calendar Server with my application running
 on
J2EE server.I have a few queries to make?
 * Does J2EE supports LDAP protocol?
 * What is a LDAP server and why is it used.
 * Does the iPlanet Calendar Server which is free download is a free
product or the downloaded version is demo version.?
 * With J2EE what are the most commonly used Calendar Servers?

If anybody has worked on this, then please help in this regard.

 Tom,

JSP doesn't preclude JavaScript. We use JavaScript in our JSP pages to do
things like change some select lists based on changes to others. Use the
JavaScript onChange() call for those select boxes. We go out to the
 server,
reload the contents of lists, and redisplay the page really fast. It works
 great.

 Subject: Design choices: JSP Javascript

I have been asked to bring a bunch of PERL web functionality
into a JSP environment. Many of the specs are requesting
Javascript capabilities, like resetting "select" options on
the fly, to match other "selection"s. I have read posts and
book sections about the possibility of mixing Javascript and
JSP, and have experimented a little. But I am asking myself,
why not just do it all in JSP? and, is there anything
available in Javascript that couldn't also be done in JSP,
 Beans, taglibs, etc.?

Secondly, our chief designer would like to be able to
control some actions to be "client side", preserving memory
and processing resources on our server. If I opt for doing
everything in JSP, does that preclude using client
 resources?

Any thoughts or references will be appreciated.

What is the standard way of working in JSP?

2000-06-05 Thread Ritesh_Srivastava

I am sending this mail again. Please suggest?

Presently we are developing application in J2EE using JSP,EJB and Oracle.
though the middle tier does not gives problems but the client interface
 do.
Presently for the browser interface we are using JSP with JavaBean. On JSP
 we
are also doing some javascript work.Thhis is painful. Can anybody suggest
 is
 this OK.
Can anybody suggest me in simple words what should be used in conjunction
with JSP for providing a good userInterface.
In JSP there is plugin tag, so we can add Applets to the PAge.
What is the standard way of working in JSP?

resultset cannot contain more than a specific no. of records, though the
query may return more.In ur case, the max. size for the resultset may be 50.
I think u will have to get the records in sets of 50 recursively.

PS: the problem may also be of DAO version.pl. check that. The same occured
to me before also.
