[Koha] Master-password (katikoan) and Live-DVD
Hi, I am trying to promote Koha here in Denmark. We have a large number of small private schools for whick Koha is just great. However, often they do not have a lot of knowhow on Linux terminal (or nothing at all). Here the Live-DVD is really great. Starting with that, I try to make step-by-step guides (on my site koha.dk) to help people without any preconditions to get started. One of the major remaining obstacles is the need to change the master password katikoan. I have made a guide on this and I think most people should be able to handle it. However, it made me wonder, if this obstacle could be avoided? One possibility would off course be to let people enter their own password during the installation from the live-DVD, but that would probably complicate the installation proces and I like that to be as simple as possible. Therefore I had another idea, but I dont know, if this is at all possible. Could the scope of the users be limited? What I would like was, if this master-user (with password katikoan) would only work, if you sit and log in directly at the server (not across any network). Then you would install koha on the server, log in there and create at least one admin-user. Then you could use this to log in from somewhere else and continue from there. In this case there would be no need to change katikoan, because nobody from outside could use it. Maybe this could be extended. When you create admin-users, you may give them different permissions. Maybe these could be dependent on whether you log in at the server, from the local network or across the Internet. I think this could increase the general security? At least I could easily imagine cases, where a user should have admin-rights only, when sitting inside the house at the local network. -- Venlig hilsen Lars J. You are probably right. The problem is that the potential users that I know of here, will often give up during the manual installation, so they will never get to any long run. -- Venlig hilsen Lars J. [Koha] Changing language
If i have more than one language installed and allow the user to change the language, I will get a link for each language at the bottom og the screen. When I click this link changelanguage.pl is executed. I have an installation, where this fails. No matter how often I press this link, the language will remain english. I presume it tries to change the language, fails and then returns to default (english). I am now trying to find out, why it fails. Is the selected language written in some kind of configuration-file? One of my ideas is that changelanguage.pl does not have the needed permissions to write to this file. -- Venlig hilsen Lars J. [Koha] Search problem
The search-function on our site is not working and I wonder if somebody can give me a clue about what to do. Some time ago we had a problem with an error message after each check-in or check-out. We discovered that Zebra had been turned off. We turned Zebra on and the problem was solved. However, now a search in the catalogue does not work. The problem is both in OPAC and in Staff-client. If I search for "Brown" in the catalogue, I get the following result: No results match your search for kw,wrdl: Brown in Frijsendal Friskole Catalog. If it is really searching for kw,wrdl: Brown , it is obvious that nothing is found (but I am not sure, if this the reason). If I search for Title: Brown, I get: No results match your search for ti,wrdl: Brown in Frijsendal Friskole Catalog. And Author: Brown gives: No results match your search for au,wrdl: Brown in Frijsendal Friskole Catalog. so the strange letters must be a reference to the index. Probably it is something concerning the setup of Zebra, as the search function works fine, if I turn Zebra off. Hi, I am "training" the installation of Koha ;-) Normally I would install from the live-CD, but unfortunately right now I need to install Koha on an old server, which does not have a DVD, so this time, I had to do it manually, and now I am stuck. Hope somebody can give me a hint. At first I installed Ubuntu 11.04. Then I followed the instructions here: http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Koha_on_Ubuntu very carefully step by step. But at the very end, when I try to go to http://127.0.1.1:8080 or http://127.0.1.1, I dont get a login-form. Instead I get the following error-message: Software error: Access denied for user 'kohaadmin'@'localhost' (using password: YES) at /usr/share/koha/lib/C4/Context.pm line 692.
