KR> For Sale - KR 1.5

2011-09-19 Thread Tim & Gail McKenna
I am the original owner/builder. Ideally, I would like to sell it only for
display/show purposes with or without the engine. If not for display, then
being sold for parts. It is NOT being sold for flying. I will consider all
offers on parts or as whole.

Experimental 1982 KR 1.5 which is a little longer in the wingspan and a
little wider in the body width and length. It is in between the KR 1 and 2
dimensions. The aircraft has been kept indoors the entire time and is in
fine shape.

53hp Volkswagen engine with 400 hrs. Engine has been overhauled. 19'
wingspan; all instruments; sliding canopy and

KR retract system on wheels.

Plane is located in Bergen County (Northern) NJ.

KR> Air shows and races

2011-09-19 Thread Lance McBride
I haven't been to the Reno air races, but I suspect it's set up with the
bleachers on the outside of the pillars.  That's a bit like the folks who watch
rally races on the outsides of turns.  Eventually something is going to happen
and somebody will get hurt because the car is automatically pulled out into the
crowd.  If people could watch the air races from the inside of the circuit
looking out, it would be a lot safer.  I hope I get the chance to see one
someday.

Marc,

Awesome Video. Makes me really home sick for the rest of the KR family. It was
great to see many old friends on the video. I'm sorry I couldn't make it.

I will commit now that I intend to be there next year. My KR is scheduled to
once again go through another metamorphesis between now and next year's
gathering, but should be ready for show and tell again by then. OK Jones, only
39 more KRs to get to commit to Next year's Gathering.

I am also considering trying to make Oshkosh next year, but if I do, it's
likely to be in the newly finished Cub.

Yep, another great Gathering. Joe, Mark Jones, Brad Stone, and I all left
the Gathering yesterday to beat a weather system that will likely continue
to dump rain on MVN through today and some of tonight.. It turns out I
could have waited until early this morning and still made it fine, but that
wasn't the recommendation of the weather briefer I talked to yesterday
afternoon. Sorry we missed the banquet.

I noticed yesterday there are some folks in attendance who didn't do much
mingling or talking, just stayed on the periphery at a distance. At the
same time, the pilots and some of the "in" crowd spent a lot of time
standing around joking and carrying on with each other, and I'm as guilty as
anybody. On the flight back, it occurred to me that next year we should try
to be better about mixing it up with folks who we don't recognize, and even
some we recognize but don't know their names, what they're building, or what
we can do to help them get their KRs in the air. That's one of the main
reasons we hold the Gathering, right?

I talked to Joe last night and he mentioned that we really should do more to
promote the Gathering, such as publish it in Sport Aviation and other
magazines and internet sites and lists, as well as local airport flyers,
etc, with sufficient advance notice to let builders and pilots plan on
attending. Mark Jones remarked at breakfast yesterday that next year was
the fortieth anniversary of the KR, and we should strive for 40 KRs to fly
in. There are a lot of KR builders and pilots out there somewhere... we
need to find them and talk them into showing up next year.

I was not surprised to hear that MVN was voted to host the Gathering again
next year, and you have to admit it's difficult to imagine a place that's
better set up to host it. Thanks again to Larry Flesner for doing a lot of
the legwork, and Chris Collins providing the airport facilities and
continuous support as well.
