KR> Scarf question
Well, it appears I may have made a mistake, gluing the skins to the side of the fuselage frame. I missed the step that said my scarf joint should align with a vertical member (I don't know why that wasn't obvious to me). Soany suggestions on how to fix this without ripping the skins off and reskinning? The sides look like this: http://www.ridetheskies.com/buildpics/sidesdone.JPG Nick Brennan nickdbren...@comcast.net
KR> Scarf question
Thanks guys!! I'll think about my solution and implement it! It'll probably be a piece of plywood on the inside! Nick Brennan nickdbren...@comcast.net
KR> Joining the sides
Hey gang, I'm having some difficulty joining the sides of the fuselage together. I originally wanted to go a few inches wider, but could barely get the fuse to bend to begin with, so I'm back to plan width (sucks, but it'll have to do). Now, when I bend, it bananas (as expected, but in doing so, it pulls out of the bottom (top really) jig assembly before I can bend the top (bottom really) together enough to put the crossmembers in place. If I make the guide blocks taller, it would solve the problem, but create an irregular shaped bend. Suggestions?

KR> Plans question
Hey guys, I almost have the two sides of the fuse done, but I have a question. The plans say I should leave the last vertical member of the fuselage off and epoxy it in place later. Am I correct to not glue the last vertical member before the longer vertical piece that goes to the top of the vertical stab, or is it the one that goes to the vertical stab that is the last piece to be epoxied into place later? A bit confusing there. Nick Brennan nickdbren...@comcast.net
KR> Plans question
Ok, I've done some serious research, and it appears that the member at station "O" from the s-supplement does not go into place before the skin, but does the member at "N"?? It would appear that neither do? Anyone? Nick Brennan nickdbren...@comcast.net
KR> Termite
So today, I'm buzzing along, actually making a lot of headway (finished skinning one side of the fuse, now waiting for the glue to dry on the scarf joint on the other side) and I look at my work table and see a termine. Just one, little winged termite. Does this mean there are more that I'm not seeing, or is it possible to have one single termite? Also - am I ruined now? Nick Brennan nickdbren...@comcast.net

KR> Hmmm - build question
I got my plans earlier this week (I spoke to and apologized to Ms. Rand, btw), and now, I've got a question, which has come up over a post in the forums. This is a KR2S if it matters: The top and bottom longerons need to be 16.25 inches from each other at the front, 20 inches from each other after the wing spar, 20.25 at the next support, then back to 20 after the next gap (I don't know what it is for yet), then 19, etc. Is that correct? If so, should I actually place them that far apart or should I make them further apart? I have bent one side down, and it looks awfully small, and someone in the forums mentioned that they need to be bigger, but I was curious how much. Nick Brennan nickdbren...@comcast.net

KR> What is wrong with Rand Robinson???
First off, I am not a normal complainer, but this is getting REALLY irritating now. This is kind of a vent, but I'm also looking for information if possible. I sent out my order for the plans on February 3rd, priority mail, to a city that is about 200 miles away from where I am right now. At the time, I figured I was looking at about 2 weeks or so. 3 weeks later, I started calling. I know, there is only one lady running the place, and it is not her full time job. But she had to have been getting my messages. She finally answered (I think it was a mistake) one day, and said "Oh yes, I have your check in my hands right now, I'll get the plans in the mail TODAY, priority mail." That was last Monday. It is now 11 days later. Priority mail does not take that long. Am I getting scammed here? I know others have been receiving their plans, but I feel like I'm being scammed. I don't know if I should go to small claims court to get the money back or what, but suddenly, what was an exciting journey towards building an airplane is beginning to feel like more of a chore than it should have been. If it takes this long to get the plans in, what about something else I'm going to need from them? She mentioned that some parts are only available through Rand Robinson. Am I looking at a multiple month wait for a single part that I have to have to continue? Very dejected, and a moment away from using my wood kit to build a bird house, Nick Brennan nickdbren...@comcast.net
KR> Re: whats right with Rand Robinson
Net, Wow, I'm surprised at the huge response this got. I apologize if I offended anyone by ranting. I am happy to see that it is not just me that has experienced this delay. It is unfortunate that Mrs. Rand has chosen not to utilize the internet a little bit more, but I understand someone's wish to remain away from it, it is often hard to change. I was really surprised at some of the hateful responses I got from the net. There were a lot of good, positive responses, enough to know that there are those that understood my frustration, and I appreciate it. I certainly did not mean to cause a controversy that would actually cause at least one member to leave the net, as it appears there is a LOT of good information spewing forth from the other builders. I have been subscribed to the net for a few months now, and I feel I've learned a lot just from reading everything. So - once again, I'm sorry I bothered venting about an issue that seemed bothersome to me at the time. Perhaps in the future, I'll keep my posts to here technically related, and not customer service related. Nick Brennan nickdbren...@comcast.net
KR> Waiting for the plans...
Since it is going to take a while for the plans to come in (they still haven't cashed my check yet, its been a week...) I wanted to see about possibly getting the stuff I need so I can start right away, so I have some questions for y'all that have already begun/finished. I will be widening the fuselage to 40", but I want to make this as easy as possible by using the kit parts as much as I can. I see the group 1 stuff is made up of 1) Spruce Kit 2) Plywood Kit 3) Wing attach fittings 4) T-88 Structural adhesive I know I'm going to need the T-88 and the wing attach fittings should remain unchanged, but can I order the spruce and plywood kits, or is that something I'll need to build myself since I am widening the cabin? - Original Message - From: "Randy Smith" To: "KRnet" Sent: Thursday, February 15, 2007 5:25 PM Subject: Re: KR> Raising the Thrust line 5 Inches > All I will say is you will not be happy with the prop > no matter what kind of drive you use. > > --- D Lively wrote: > >> KRnetters: >> >> I have a GP 5 pt mount on my ship that I purchased >> be fore I found out about the wood prop requirement. >> I am considering the possibility of adding their >> front drive PSRU so I can use a "Warp Drive" >> composite Ground adjustable prop instead. >> >> What is your opinion? OK - so I am placing the order now, but how much T-88 should I buy? According to the fly-kr site, the T-88 costs 26 bucks. The closest I can find to being correct is a pint for $22 from Aircraft Spruce. I assume that is the correct amount? Am I wrong? Also - before I do it, I just wanted to make sure this is correct - Aircraft Spruce has two wood kits, but interestingly enough - the KR2S spruce kit is cheaper than the KR2 spruce kit.
