with 3/32”ply between the truss vertical and the bottom crossmember with a
5/8”thick mounting area on the inside of the side skin ply. It’s super strong.

Re: KR> ADS-B out opt out

There are ways around an electrical system. One of my fellow EAA chapter
members flies a Champ, it has a starter and micro 760 radio which are powered
by stand alone battery. There is no engine run alternator, they just charge the
battery after each flight. Seems to work fine, engine is a c75 which starts
easily and the radio draw is minimal.

I'll bite! I am refurbishing the Kr2 Dumbo. Took off the worn out vw
engine. Replacing the retract gear with fixed gear. A continental C-85-8
engine is going on the front. Its an 85 with the 85 cam, o-200 crank, rods
and NFS 10:1 high compression pistons. Only 93 octane or higher will go in
it. I'll have a Odessy battery to power handheld radio and my $150 av8r
GPS. Back up would be Avare on the cell phone. This airplane is for fun and
not atrue cross country plane. Of course I guess it could be. I like
dependability and being able to fly safely down low where's you see the
people and the sights. As for a starter I guess I'll have to buy a Trunk
Monkey! I've heard they have had a recall on them so I may have to
improvise a home made starter. I'm not an educated man, so don't do this at
home. This is not my main ride.

I used all 14’ on my plane. It will help with pitch control. As most KR’s are
heavier, 100 hp has become the preferred amount, O-200 or 3 liter Corvair.

Pete, This is great news, Congrats. The only advice I have is what everyone
told me and it kept me from pounding mine into the ground. Until you get
comfortable you'll probably land a bit hot and on touchdown she will more than
likely bounce. If this happens, do not move the stick, with the power off and
the drag out it will settle back down. If you chase the bounce and try to force
it down, You'll come down hard on the nose gear. Good luck, we're pulling for
you.

Pete - if you have not obtained the new EAA publication on flight testing -
by all means do so - it is VERY GOOD and lays out a structured program
including flight test cards. By the end of the Phase One test period you
will know the aircraft and have a POH as well.

I also recommend that all the other KR pilots out there consider buying one
as well to further document your aircraft.

When I pickle engines, I fog the upper part of the cylinders and the crankcases
using a siphon type solvent gun and polyfiber engine storage oil.

The top of the cylinders is kind of obvious, but fogging the crankcase you want
to make sure you are flowing the fogging oil through the crankcase from one end
to the other to ensure a thorough coating. Often times I use the oil filler
neck and the breather tube. Spray fog in one until you are getting a good flow
of oil fog out the other, then switch and flow it the other direction.

Subject: KR> VW engine fogger

I'm imagining a spray can that could be screwed into the oil cap threads
of the GPAS Type 1 VW engine. Or, instead of something that fits the
threads of the oil breather box, something just held in place by hand
pressure for the short time it would take to "fog" the inside of the
engine - that part of it below the pistons. I DO have a can of "fogging
oil" that I bought I don't remember where. NAPA probably.

Seems like this would be a good thing to do before running an engine that
hasn't run in quite a while, or an engine that is being pickled. Seems
like this oil fog would coat everything that is not already covered in
oil. I'm thinking especially of cam lobes.

Does anyone know of a particular product (like Cam Guard) that's designed
for this sort of thing?

Another thought - a fitting that would fit a compressor hose that would
mix air with a bottle of oil, something like we have as a standard
attachment to a normal pressure washer? The compressor would be pushing
air while sucking up oil from a small bottle of oil thus making an misted
oil spray that could be aimed into the breather box oil entrance hole?

A pressure washer puts out too much pressure to be suitable for what I've
got in mind, but without checking to see, it may be possible to turn down
the pressure low enough to make this a reasonable idea. The crankcase
breather type would relieve excess pressure as long as pressure wasn't
ridiculously high. Maybe a small garden sprayer is a better idea. It
could be pumped up to high pressure and inserted into the oil breather
opening.

A WD-40-sized can is more what I've got in mind but I'm just going
through ideas in my head - the objective being to blow an oil mist into
the insides of the engine to thoroughly coat everything below the
pistons. The parts of the cylinders above the pistons can be gotten to
through the spark plug holes.

Anybody ever done anything like this and, if so, did you use "fogging
oil" or just regular oil combined with some kind of anti-corrosion
product?

I'd appreciate any thoughts anyone has. Meanwhile I'll prowl around the
internet to see what engine manufacturers do when they prepare an engine
for long periods of sitting, as for shelving in the warehouse as reserve
stock.

"Cosmoline" pops into my mind as I think about this but I'm thinking this
is a product used on the exterior of an engine or other machine.

Electric tachs have been known to short, which would take down the ignition
coil it's tied to. I've experienced that first hand. However, you are wiring
to a Dynon unit, and Dynon already thought of that. That's why they recommend
using a 30 kΩ "pull up" resistor. The Dynon unit isn't going to draw any
current as it only reads signal voltage and requires virtually no amperage. A
30 kΩ resistor as shown in the installation manual should keep a shorted tach
from taking down the ignition. That's why Dynon recommends using the resistor.
It protects the Dynon from the ignition, and the ignition from the Dynon unit,
but still allows the Dynon to read the voltage switching up and down at the
ground side of the coil. If you are concerned about the wire getting shorted,
put the resistor right at the - terminal of the coil. If you do the math on
the 30 kΩ resistor at 12V, it only allows .0004 of an amp (4 ten thousandths of
an amp) of current to pass through. That isn't going to affect the ignition if
you had a dead short on the tach side of the resistor.

Hope this explains the installation well enough.

KR> RPM source for use with Dynon Skyview

2019-03-22 Thread Pete Klapp via KRnet

Need to find out what others have used as a rpm source that works with a Dynon
Skyview. The manual I have dated September 2013 for use with firmware version 7
is not very specific. I know that William has suggested a flywheel tooth
counter like the Stewart automotive. Is there any other ways to pick up a
signal. I am using a 3.0 liter Corvair as my engine. Can I get a signal form
the coils or the dual electronic pickups in my distributor? Any light that you
can shed would be helpful.

Finishing minor wiring changes for the comm, detailing spinner, adding some
closure trim to the air plenum. Most everything else is complete, engine done
and dyno'd, will be moving to the airport in April. Dynon Skyview still needs
to be programmed, but my son will be helping with that soon. Hopefully testing
will go off without too many issues.

probably be WOT for take-off. what other info do I need to supply to a prop

The DAR/FAA would like to see that you have a POH for your plane. I never had
one for my KR until a few years ago when I finished the SuperCub and wrote one
for it, then decided I should do the same for the KR. It's just a document and
as Stephen says, you'll want to review and update it periodically, especially
while you are testing/learning the plane. I copied the one Rob Schmitt had on
his web site and graciously allowed me to use as a template, then rewrote it
for my KR. You're welcome to do the same from mine.
<http://jeffsplanes.com/KR/N1213W POH.pdf> You should be able to easily
convert the .pdf back to a MSWord document.

The reality is, in planes as simple as the the ones I fly, I keep the
checklists in my head. In an emergency situation in a KR, things happen way
too fast to be trying to read a POH. But I also find that my head apparently
leaks as I have departed with the canopy unlatched and the cowl flap in the
wrong position on more than one occasion, so a checklist card mounted in the
cockpit wouldn't be a bad thing.

Re: KR> Cowling exit design

2017-03-03 Thread Pete Klapp via KRnet
Mark

A number of years ago when Rich Shirley was at Oshkosh and was having
overheating issues with the Jabiru 3300 in his KR-1, I went to a seminar given
by a German aerodynamisist to see if I could learn anything useful. She stated
that cowl cheeks low on the sides was best location. Short of that, the lower
outboard corners would be the next best place. But somehow, I couldn't remember
what she said about the ratio of inlet vs. outlet areas.

Subject: Re: Cowling exit design

Pete,

Google "thorp aircraft cooling exit area ratio" and you'll get some
pretty good hits on this. The ratios vary wildly, from 1:1 to 1:1.3 on
the Van's Air Force site thread at the top.

KR> Cowling Cooling Air design

2017-02-24 Thread Pete Klapp via KRnet
Netters

I working on the lower half of my cowling and need to know the multiplier to
size the exit area. I vaguely remember that the exit area should be approx. 1.5
times the total size of the inlet area. Need to qualify that memory. I have
Tony Bingelis' "Firewal Forward" book, but can't find that multiplier listed
anywhere.

Any help or info greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

You are correct. I called boat supply stores down around the water. The

$150. But I will keep looking, thank you.

I have been thinking about Phil Hill's unsuccessful search for help for his
KR project and a few points come to mind.

Cal Parker in his plans and instruction booklet tells those who would build
a Teenie to go out to the airport and look at airplanes. Go into the shops
where airplanes are apart. Look at everything because every designer has
the same fundamental problems. Besides Cessna and Piper look at the
Citations and Lears too.

Look at other stuff like boats and race cars. Their problems are not unlike
airplane problems.

A couple stories. It's a few years ago when crossing the border wasn't the
hassle it is now, Peter, who is building a KR, and I flew to Toledo to what
was billed as a KR flyin.

As it worked out, there was one KR and to sum up, it was no thing of
beauty. KR builders have a sanding song. This plane looked as though the
builder had laid the fiberglass on the foam and patted it on with the heal
of his hand. But he got into the plane and flew away.

I listened to Chris Heintz of Zenith tell about standing with some members
of the French equivalent to Transport Canada or whoever and one them said,
"Look at this." One could see just by looking at it that the plane was
crooked. And the owner got in and flew away.

So don't be frightened. Remember, it's only an airplane. As they say, "it's
not a piano."

And don't be led astray by pictures of KRs or anything else. Those pretty
girls in TV soap ads are barely real. They probably use pictures of
different girls to make the ad, a face from one, an arm from another, and
so on.. So when one looks at a picture of part of a KR or other, one is
seeing only that part. The part you see might be beautiful but for the
rest, it might be a good thing to keep it hidden.

Finally, there is the "three times rule" Don't be ashamed to make something
three times, once to sort out how to make it, once to make it right, and
once to make it to the standard you want to maintain. No one ever admits
that. And even though spruce has become expensive, working with it is more
productive than nearly anything else you might do which means it isn?t
expensive after all.

sanding the parts had previously primed. What form of Smooth Prime was he
referring to? The earlier version was a catalyzed formula and the present

Only issue was finding a driver for my old ass printer. Luckily, my son cured

MarkSO!!! What are you leaning towards? If the fuselage sides are
vertical as mine are, is a small fillets okay? My fuselage starts to taper into
prior to trailing edge of the wing so maybe a larger, broader fillet there
would be a good thing?!Any thoughts?Pete

KR> Fuselage to wing fairings?

MarkSorry I got you wrong as the author. Maybe your name was somewhere in the
post and I thought you had said it. Strega is a highly modified P-51 pylon
racer, Reno air race type.So based on what you and Larry have done, it looks
like I'm doing wing root fillets. Thanks, Pete

KR> Fuselage to wing fairings?

2016-05-26 Thread Pete Klapp
Netters
I'm confused as to the necessity of large radius' at the wing root. I recently
read that Mark Langford noted that Strega does not have large radius fillets.
You'd think they would have them as they are trying to squeeze every mph that
they can from that airframe. Neither do the RV series of planes, only a "U"
shaped gasket over the edge of the wing skin were it meets the fuselage side.
I'm tempted to put a "finger fillet" of flox along the juncture, dressed with a
light layer of micro for easy finishing.
Thoughts? All info gladly accepted.

Mark Your fuel system page shows your Facet fuel pumps connected to fuel lines
using AN fittings. I spoke with a "tech?" at Facet and he "thought they were a

any leaks or problems using the 37 deg AN fittings? Did you alter the AN
fittings to 45 deg?Pete

KR> KR Engine Cowling

2016-04-12 Thread Pete Klapp
Mark / Netters
I have run the CG numbers many times using four different datum reference
points and have determined that I need to move the engine three inches fwd of
the WW location for a standard KR-2S. As Joe Horton noted, my plane is 1'-3"
longer than any of the other planes that responded to his request for
dimensions. My flying CG with me and partial fuel to max gross wt at 1320 goes
from 1.25" aft of the fwd limit to 3.5" aft of the fwd limit, well within the
"preferred 6" CG range. All the calculations came within a 1/16" no matter
where I set the datum.

My next step is to build the cowling. Ron Willet is making a female mold off a
cowling plug that I have as we speak. I will do the same after I make some
slight changes to the plug, to clear the alternator. My question for Mark and
fellow netters is where to purchase carbon fiber cloth other than Aircraft
Spruce as they are pretty pricey. Also need to know which weave is best to use.
Thanks in advance for any info,
Pete Klapp

KR> weight and balance

2016-04-02 Thread Pete Klapp
Larry
Thanks for the link for the weight and balance handbook.
I've been using the formulas from AC 91-23 DOT manual.
I ran more numbers using several datums: aft of the main gear, several inches
out in front of the spinner, and the prop flange.
All the numbers come out good. Empty CG's fall fwd of the RR CG range. When I
put in values for me, a passenger, various fuel quantities, baggage in various
configurations, all the "flying CG's" fell within an 1.75 to 3.5" aft of the RR
CG range, resulting in a total of about 1.75" change from me and 1/2 fuel to
max gross wt. Everything fell very close to the middle or better of the
"preferred 6" CG range".
Looks like I can move the engine between 2 to 3" fwd of where a WW engine mount
would locate a Corvair engine.
Thanks for your help and insight.

KR> C.G location,

2016-04-02 Thread Pete Klapp

Thanks Jeff, Larry, Mark, Dan for all the good advise. Since I don't yet know
where the engine will be mounted, my best choices for the datum are the
firewall and a point some distance out in front of the prop independent of the
spinner. Calculations I have run using the later have yielded acceptable
results. I am going to re-run the calculations using the firewall datum and see
if they match. As a bit of info on the temporary motor mount that I build, the
"tray" that supports the engine is six (6) inches longer than WW version. With
the tray being 3" closer to 3" farther away from the firewall, I should be able
to find a suitable location resulting in a fwd CG. I'll run the numbers and
publish the results.Pete

KR> C.G location, Engine centerline

2016-04-01 Thread Pete Klapp

Guys
I have done calculations on several different engine locations. The temporary
engine mount I made allows me to move the engine about five inches fwd and aft.
I'm using the tip of the spinner as my ref datum so each time I move the engine
fwd so moves the datum and I'm not sure if that is correct. My calculations as
I move the engine fwd are moving closer to the fwd RR CG limit, but only in
very small increments. I would have thought moving the engine five (5) fwd
would have had a large change in CG location. Should I be using the firewall as
a datum as it remains constant with respect to the RR CG range? All the
calculations have placed the flying CG within the RR CG range and the "plane"
goes over gross before getting to the safe aft CG limit.Looking for advise from
the smart ones!!!Pete Klapp

I think I going to move the engine a little further fwd such that it calculates
out that full fuel and pilot puts the cg right at the fwd end of the cg range.
What about changing the location of the cg range, or should I stay with RR
location?
And you don't see a problem with lowering the centerline to 3 to 3.25" below
the longerons? I will still have about 9.5" ground clearance.

KR> C.G location, Engine centerline

2016-03-30 Thread Pete Klapp
KRNetters
I am in the process of determining the cg on my project. In comparing cg
location, RR plans show the 8" cg range with the fwd edge of the range starting
8" aft of the leading edge of the wing. Based on the profile of the 48" rib,
the leading edge of the cg range is 2" fwd of the front face of the main spar.
I have Diehl RAF - 48 skins along with inboard skins that Jeannette Rand also
produced. With those, the leading edge of the wing is 11.5" fwd of the front
spar face, an 1.5" fwd of RR plans. Should I move the cg envelope fwd by that
1.5" or use the cg range set by RR.
Next question: Preliminary calculations show my empty cg is approx. an 1" fwd
of the RR cg location. Knowing that any weight added, passengers, fuel,
baggage, etc will fall push the flying cg aft, should I fabricate my engine
mount using this calculated engine position?
I have done calculations with pilot plus 1/2 fuel and it falls at 2" into the
RR cg range, and pilot & passenger plus 3/4 fuel and cg falls within 6"
preferred cg range, the later coming in right at the aft edge of the preferred
range. I'm thinking that I would like set the engine such that with me and 1/2
fuel that the cg falls right at the fwd cg limit.

Next question: The horizontal engine centerline with the temporary engine mount
is 2.5" below the top of the upper longerons. I'd like to drop the centerline a
little more, 1/2 to 3/4", for better clearance for engine cowling and cooling
plenum. Anyone see a problem with that.
All advise cheerfully accepted,
Thanks in advance for any and all assistance.

KR> Angle of Attack sys

2016-02-25 Thread Pete Klapp
Thanks Larry. I have been reading up on the Skyview sys which I have for my
panel. I wasn't aware of all the capabilities of the system. You mentioned that
you had helped install a Skyview sys w/ AoA in a friend's RV-10. I haven't
completely digested all the features of the Skyview sys. Does the AoA require
an additional component or is it a built-in feature of the system? If it is
part of the system, I may just purchase the static/AoA probe and sell the
Advanced Flight AoA package. Decisions, decisions.

KR> Angle of Attack sys

2016-02-24 Thread Pete Klapp

Larry
I misspoke. The unit I have is the Sport not the Pro version where you have to
install pressure ports in the bottom and top of the wing somewhere between 15
to 40% of the wing chord. My question was where along the wing, outside the
prop wash area, is the best place. Is there a problem with being to close to
the wingtip or a fuel cap, does surface with rivets pose an issue? Those are
the questions I have.

I forgot to mention that that I used the NACA 63009 airfoil and added six
inches per side to the elevator for a total width of seven (7) feet. The
vertical stab is an additional 4" taller and I used the NACA 63005 airfoil. The
wings are RAF 48 as I had the Diehl wing skins and the wing incidence is at 2
degrees instead of 3-1/2.

Sorry to hear you are no longer able to fly. Yeah I'm still working on my

Down to finishing the ailerons which are almost done. That leaves the engine

Have been able to spent more time on it since I retired. Hopefully out of the

KR> Fuselage dimensions for N729PK

I used all 14' of the longeron material from Wicks as suggested by Mark
Langford. Mine measures 28" (2'4") to the front face of the firewall from the
front face of the fwd spar. From the front face of the fwd spar to the aft face
of the bottom of the stern post, I measured 141" (11'-9"). I added an addition
bay to the fuselage. My fuselage is 4" wider than a std KR-2S. Of the
additional length, 3" of it was added forward of the front spar, the rest is
aft.

I went to Wicks. They have a complete kit, all the spruce, in the needed
lengths, width and thickness to complete a KR-2S. The longeron material comes
in 14' length which allows you to lengthen a KR to it's best configuration. See
Mark Langford's site as to best lengthening layout.

I don't remember a specific speed. This is a rough timing to fully extend or

My speed brake is controlled by a momentary on /off/ on switch (Aircraft Spruce
#T7-131G1) controlling a Spal LACT-6 linear actuator, 6" inch travel with
built-in stop limits at each end of travel. Hold momentary on to lower to
desired angle, approx. 20 degrees per second. Flip to on position and it
returns to full up position and stops on its own. My speed brake is 9"x30"
mounted using a piano hinge with six machine screws through a 5/8"x 5/8" strip
glued to the front face of the aft spar. Pete Klapp

KR> Aileron spar

2016-01-05 Thread Pete Klapp

Have some difficulty with the aileron spars that I have floxed into the wing
(Diehl RAF-48 skins). Thought I had them held straight when I glued them in,
but when I screw the hinge in place, it's in a bind, not real bad, but not as
free as I think it should be. Thinking of re-doing the spars and using rod ends
like the Dr. Dean method I used for the elevator. And than I could wait the
leading edge of the aileron for counterweight. Any thoughts or problems with
that idea. How many rod end bearing would be sufficient to the equal full
length of the piano hinge?

KR> 2015 KR Gathering @ McMinnville Web Pages Are Up

2015-06-26 Thread Pete Klapp

 John
Looks like you were able to salvage some or all of those who had previously
register. But I don't see any info on details for the shirts and hats that were
placed during the original registration. Should we re-enter that info? Please
advise.
Thanks, Pete Klapp

Minn. DNR adds 6 new Fire Boss airplanes to aerial firefighting fleet

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has added six new single-seat
Fire Boss airplanes to its aerial firefighting fleet. The agency formerly had
two 1950s Bombardier CL-215 airplanes but it was becoming increasingly
difficult to find parts to maintain them. Dry, windy conditions across the
state have resulted in an increase in wildfires; DNR Wildfire Suppression
Supervisor Ron Stoffel said crews had responded to 50 or 60 different fires
last Thursday alone. The Forum (Fargo, N.D.-Moorhead, Minn.) (free registration)

KR> project update

2015-01-17 Thread Pete Klapp
Bob
I also I'm using capacitance probes from Centroid. I have 40" long probes that
bend 85 deg just after the sensor head. They were built to be able to bend
there. I had to make a bending tool to make a tight radius. They mount thru the
top of the tank and slip into a piece of I/2" slotted pvc pipe supported by
bracket mounted inside my alum 12 gallon wing tanks. The pvc pipe prevents the
probe from touching any part of the tank. Some of the fuel monitor gages, such
as the "glass panels" ie. Dynon, MGL, etc have the ability to preset
capacitance values to certain tank levels setting up a curve to approximate
actual tank levels. I had my probes built with low level alarms that hopefully
will prevent the possibility of running out of fuel.

KR> FW: belly board installation in N891JF

2014-09-14 Thread Pete Klapp
Netters
If you pull the hinge pin, reverse the leaf and re-install the pin, it lines up
with the underside of the speed brake panel and doesn't require a shim on the
other hinge leaf. I used 0.125 6061T6 aluminum for speed brake, 9x30", powered
by a 6" linear actuator. Will deploy to appox. 80 degrees.

KR> THANKS STEVE

2014-09-11 Thread Pete Klapp
Steve
Just a quick note the thank You, Kiku, Eric, Marc and Richard for all your hard
work putting together this year's Gathering.
You really set the bar pretty high for the folks at McMinnville next year
The workshops were a great addition and really provided those just entering the
KR world some good tips.
Once again, thanks for all you did to make this Gathering a success.

KR> KR2 plans required

2014-08-13 Thread Pete Klapp
Hennie
Each set of plans whether sold by Jeanette Rand or Steve Glover have a serial
number specific to that builder. When I acquired my partial project, I called
Jeanette and had that serial number transferred to me. If you make up a serial
number, it might have already been assigned to someone else's project.
Check with Steve, he may be able to transfer it to you.

KR> FW: Elevator trim hinge

2014-07-30 Thread Pete Klapp
Paul
I should have also mentioned that I used the brass tube inside another brass
tube as my hinge. Not sure if the larger was 1/4" ID or OD, but I found two
that slipped together perfectly with only a couple of thousands clearance like
Ken's plans call for. I' they can find the correct pieces for you. If not, call
me at 330-388-2074, I'll get them for you and mail them to you.

KR> Transponder Antenna

2014-06-25 Thread Pete Klapp
Mark L / Dan H
Mark in the past, you move your transponder antenna inside as performance is
degraded due to oil and dirt. And I moved mine inside as well, but now with the
advent of ABSD-in & out, will an inside location limit signal quality and
reception due to increase data involved? Dan, where were your antennas located?
I'm also wrestling with transponder location verses comm antenna which is in
the vert stabilizer like 56ML. Is there a rule of thumb as to proximity. Where
are yours' located to each other as well as to your ADAHRS. Dynon tech didn't
have much to offer, "just try it and see if it's a problem". Don't really want
to drill holes or move it several times if I don't have to.
If anyone else has some thoughts, I'm all ears.

KR> FW: Skyview Installation

2014-06-20 Thread Pete Klapp
Dan / Mark
After some thought, I could mount it on a small platform (3/32 ply) glued to
the upper aft fuselage horizontal braces behind the left seat. I'll have to
relocate the transponder antenna which is presently located there. But that can
be mounted most anywhere. Possibly further aft. Is there a required distance
between my comm antenna which is in the leading edge of the vert stab and the
transponder antenna? I am also installing a backup airspeed indicator. Should
I use a separate pitot system for the ASI and the ADAHRS?

Dan / Mark
Having install a Skyview / MGL Explorer in your KR's, I'm hoping you can answer
some questions for me:
where did you mount the ADAHRS?
I was thinking of fwd of the panel, but Dynon tech says it will be problematic.
He suggested in the aft fuselage, but that's where my ELT, transponder and comm
antennas are. I could move the transponder antenna to one of the wings.
Any help would be appreciated

KR> identify this brake cylinder?

These brake cylinders look very similar to the lower portion of the Rosenhan
cylinders I have except that mine have the reservoir cast with the piston. The
castings are very similar, ie. the port, the mount pivot and overall shape.
Yours must have a remote reservoir higher on the firewall to feed both brakes.I
agree that the piston needs to be really extended to get them to bleed out any
air, to the point where the upper O-ring is almost exposed. Tricky procedure to
do by yourself.Hope this helpsPete Klapp
Can anybody identify the brake cylinder shown in the enclosed photo? It's a
half-inch diameter (unfortunately), and I'm not so sure it's at the top of its
game, despite my "rebuild job", cleaning it out, blowing out the passages, and
putting in new o-rings. In my first taxi test, I quickly discovered no brakes
on the right side. It's not developing pressure at all, and I'm pretty sure
there's no air in the line. I'm trying to figure out the internal workings,
check valve wise.

I'd rather take a serious beating that have to remove this thing, especially
with the panel in place. Come to think of it, that's what it'll be...a serious
beating, but that may have to happen before I can fly it. Condition inspection
is done, so now it's the brakes...

Thanks,

Mark Langford

John
I'll be at Sun-n-Fun from Tues @noon till Thursday evening. Call my cell
330-388-2074 and I'll take a look at it. I'm building a wider, longer version
of a KR-2S, about 80% done.
Are there any others KR Netters headed to S-n-F this year? Call and we can get
together for a beer or dinner.Pete Klapp, Canton, OH
