It’s like describing the same thing with different aspects. Taken the
elephants as an example , we can name them with some very special features,
like “four pillars,” “two sharp horns,” “long nose,” etc.

As to the potato here, “土豆” which used in simplified Chinese means “earth
bean,” and “馬鈴薯” in traditional Chinese means “horse bell yam” literally.

This kind of naming variants also exist within different regions of Chinese
speaking people besides the writing system.

Kevin Suo is also right about this.

The "common terms" here means the terms dictionary conversion between
simplified and traditional Chinese.
For example. You can set Term as "土豆 " and Mapping as "馬鈴薯" for referring
to potatoes.

Yeah. It is used for Simplified and Traditional Chinese Conversion.

Common terms are shared in both languages, like Fire “火”, Air “風”, Earth
“土” ,Water “水” ,etc.

However, different terms referring to the same thing exist between China
and Taiwan.
For example, potato is “土豆” in simplified Chinese while “馬鈴薯” in
traditional Chinese.

[libreoffice-l10n] Weblate: File uploading failed

2019-12-09 Thread Cheng-Chia Tseng
Hi,

I just tried to upload translation file to libo_ui-master/cuimessages for
traditional Chinese, zh_TW (zh_Hant), but failed. The file is the
attachment.

The process:
1. Download the original translation file
2. Work offline with Poedit
3. Upload the file with parameters below:
File upload mode: Add as translation needing edit,
Processing of strings needing edit: Do not import,
Overwrite existing translations: Checked

Then, the error message shows "right sibling's left-link doesn't match:
block 37929 links to 37930 instead of expected 1 in index
'trans_unit_has_failing_check_2f1475f3'."

Not knowing how to fix it, please help.

Thanks.

If I am working on LibreOffice UI/ LibreOffice Online, then I donʼt want to
go through LibreOffice Help when searching.
Fixing translations in LibreOffice Help is kind of time-consuming and
torturing, so I work with UI/Online first. :S

Yeah, I do notice the feature as I work on Weblate to translate the UI of
Weblate for some years.
However, finding inconsistent translations is another issue.

The idea of searching across the whole project mentioned above is mostly
happened when we are "changing the translation of specific terms".

Thatʼs true we can do it offline, but the challenge we face is that Pootle
does this well online and we are used to it. T-T

Agree. It is more about the user experience part for translators working on
multiple files under one project, although it might seem nothing special.

I typically click "LibreOffice Master UI" first, then click the different
components to translate.
If I find something translated wrongly (I may notice it in fuzzy, under the
translation memory pane below or see it in neighboring strings) when I am
going though the fuzzy/untranlsated strings, I will do the cross search
between projects (such as Master, LibreOffice 6.3 UI, LibreOffice 6.2 UI)
to fix them all at once (like bug fix and backport).

Actually, I totally support the move to Weblate in any time.

I just want to express that Poole has some advantages that we are used to,
and it is always better that we can have that again no matter how much the
time it might take.
There will be more of joy when we translate for LibreOffice projects as
before with folder-based view.
I also work on other small projects which have few files as well. I don't
think folder-based view is needed with those small projects.
However, in my point of view, LibreOffice needs it because of the
complexity of files.

If we canʼt have that after all, it is fine as well because we have
collected opinions an

[libreoffice-l10n] Weblate: Missing features, project folder view and search across the whole project

2019-09-12 Thread Cheng-Chia Tseng
In Pootle, translators can search specific term/translation in the whole
project, such as LibreOffice UI, LibreOffice Help, LibreOffice Online, etc.

This feature enables translators to check existing terms or translations
and fix them. Weblate only provides the search and replace tool, but not
useful as you typically have to search for existing ones first (view) and
then to decide to replace them all once or manually change them according
to the context one by one (edit).

Listing the components as folders under the project and searching text
across the whole project are quite important features in the daily
translation workflow.

The way Pootle works is designed to serve multiple translation files under
different projects which fits LibreOffice well while Weblate is not.

If we are moving to Weblate, and that should be solved to fill the missing
gap between them.

Yeah, I have done that already.
I'm talking about Weblate lists one file by one file instead of folder view
display as Pootle does.
That is the problem for me to choose the right project (better to see UI

I search for some old strings to make the translations consistent and the

[libreoffice-l10n] The change of the translated strings does not update in recent releases

2018-02-08 Thread Cheng-Chia Tseng
Hi all,

There is a big issue I met with the translations provided in recent
releases of LibreOffice.
In the development stage of 5.3, we change all the "Gallery" translation
from "畫廊" into "圖庫" for traditional Chinese language.

It can be confirmed that we DO change all of the translations related to
Gallery in Pootle.
https://translations.documentfoundation.org/zh_TW/libo_ui/translate/#search=%E7%95%AB%E5%BB%8A=source,target=case

However, some of the translations are not changed in 5.4 release and 6.0
release. After launching LibreOffice 5.4 or 6.0 and checking the
translation of "Gallery" in the sidebar, we get "畫廊" still.

There are only LibreOffice 5.4 on Linux platform and LibreOffice 6.0 RC on
Linux platform were changed as expected. But, LibreOffice 6.0 on ALL
platforms does not use the existing translations.

This problem bothers quite some time, it creates inconsistency of the
glossary. Users are keeping complaining. I don't understand what's wrong
with the process. What we have translated in Poole just cannot get into the
recent releases.

Is there anyway to prevent this kind of problem in the future?

I have filed a bug report as well:
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=115551

WeChat is reported by the media for being confirmed to endanger users'
privacy. I don't encourge CJK people in other region to use WeChat.

Is other alternative instant messaging tool except WeChat you can use in
China? Such as Signal (https://signal.org/) or Matrix (https://matrix.org/),
or just IRC. We can have a IRC bridge set up to link between the Telegram
group and the IRC chat room.

We, the translators of Chinese (Traditional) language (locale: zh-TW), have

I would like to request Askbot for LibreOffice to deploy Chinese

[libreoffice-l10n] Pootle does not response with translation archive upload

2017-01-01 Thread Cheng-Chia Tseng
Hi,

Because of Pootle being so unstable, I work offline to save my time.

However, I keep encountering uploading error recently. The most frequent
problem met is "504 Gateway Time-out" with large file such as
libo_ui/officecfg/registry/data/org/openoffice/Office/UI.po which is 733 kb
in my case while other smaller files are fine. (Sorry that I don't know
what it mean actually)

Is this problem could solved? The problem blocks my workflow and I don't
want to proceed one translation by one and waiting for the slow response of
Pootle.

Thanks.

I finally got what you mean! Thanks.

"Heading 1" to "Heading N" all are inherited from the "Heading" style.
However, the localized MSO2010 (e.g. all Chinese variants) use the same
translation "標題" for both "Heading" and "Title."

Thus MSO2010 matches the "Heading" format to "Title" format unexpectedly
and makes all "Heading", "Heading 1" to "Heading N" align to center as
"Title" does.

And you are trying to help MSO2010 match the right "Heading" style instead
of "Title" style by changing the translation of "Heading" style into
something different from "標題".
However, the way to help MSO2010 makes the translation of "Heading" not
consistent with the Heading from"Heading 1" to "Heading N".

That might be a workaround within LibreOffice for increasing
interoperability with MSO2010, but I think that is far more than what we
should do from our position. Plus, you said the problem is a MSO2010-only
problem, not reproducible with MSO 2013 and 2016. Although Chinese
(traditional) is affected as well like Chinese (simplified), I prefer not
to change the translation. After all, it is that localized MSO not picking
the right style because it uses same translation for both "Heading" and
"Title".

I don't think translating "Heading 1" from "标题 1" to "标题样式 1" would fix the
problem.

If you check the docx file in MSO2010, "Heading 1" still is "Heading 1"
style, no matter what the translation is.

The problem is that the formatting style of Heading 1 (align to the left)
in docx file exported by LibreOffice would change (center) in MSO2010.

[libreoffice-l10n] localization enhancement for Chinese (Taiwan)

2012-03-16 Thread Cheng-Chia Tseng
Hi, I have encountered two problems with LibreOffice 3.5.
They are about the localization part (technical part), not translatable part.
And sorry, I don't know much about programming. :S

First, Chinese (Taiwan) uses 中一刀 (which means middle one cut) page
size a lot. It is half size of a letter (8.5in x 5.5in, while letter
is 8.5in x11.1 in).
I have filed a bug, and need someone to help us. [0]

Second, there are two identical Chinese (Taiwan) date format in LibreOffice.
Both are in GGGEE年M月D日 = 中華民國88年12月31日, while one should be
corrected as in GGEE年M月D日 = 民國88年12月31日. [1]

Any comments on how should we do to get helped more easily are
welcome. I will do my best! :)

[libreoffice-l10n] Win_x86_install_multi.msi language problem on Chinese (Hong Kong)

2012-03-01 Thread Cheng-Chia Tseng
LibreOffice now provides two Chinese languages now, one is Chinese
(simplified), the other is Chinese (traditional).
Infact, Chinese (simplified) is zh-cn, and Chinese (traditional) is zh-tw now.

Hong Kong is a place using Chinese (traditional) language, which is zh-hk.
However, since LibreOffice only provides zh-tw now, zh-tw should be
selected instead of zh-hk or zh-cn.

There are some Chinese (traditional) users in Hong Kong complaining
that installer automatically choose Chinese (simplified) for them.
How to solve this problem? Should I file a bug report for them or
inform someone who is dealing with the installer to investigate the
problem?

Thanks.

At first, I thought it was my fault translating them into ~確定 and ~取消
 something like that.
I downloaded the zip of translations and did some investigations.
 I used 'grep -r --include=*.po PATTERN .' to search for ~確定, ~取消,
~OK and ~Cancel to see if there are strings with the wrong
 translations.
The result is that I didn't find out any translations wrong (assigning
the shortcut key to characters which cannot be shortcut keys).

I am not sure that I have found out all the possibilities or not.

However, I am curious that if it only happens on Chinese (Traditional)
interface or not. And if yes, how should I find out the way or the
exactly wrong string to fix it?

Re: [libreoffice-l10n] Testing current pootle translation

2012-02-24 Thread Cheng-Chia Tseng
Pre-release along with language packs are good way to see the
translation result. However, it is kind of late to see the translation
error in that build. Problems are often caught after final release
because of the time to see if translations are well being short.

By the way, Key-ID language build will be awesome to help translators
find out which string is what we see. It will save considerable time
for us. I hope it can be downloaded more easily for translators.

[libreoffice-l10n] Kyrgyz language support help

2011-12-30 Thread Cheng-Chia Tseng
Hi, everyone.

I am the translator of Chinese (Taiwan).

Today, Adylbek, a man lived in Xinjiang, China, contacted me to help
LibreOffice Kyrgyz language support.
He does not speak English well, so I help him to post here.

Kyrgyz language code in ISO 639-1 is ky.
Kyrgyz language has two forms of writing styles now, one is Cyrillic
script, the other is Arabic alphabet.

Kyrgyz people lived in Xinjiang, China uses the traditional writing
style, Arabic alphabet.
Kyrgyz people lived in Kyrgyz Republic, uses Cyrillic script instead
of Arabic alphabet since 1940 due to general Soviet policy.

So how can we help Kyrgyz people lived in Xinjiang to have their
localized version of LibreOffice?
I don't know what the appropriate language code for them. Maybe ky-CN?

If they want to get supported, do they need to provide other information?

Re: [libreoffice-l10n] Git migration

2011-08-05 Thread Cheng-Chia Tseng
By the way, why don't we use Translatewiki.net (or something like
that) to translate the contents of wiki?

For example, there are many English strings at left pane, and cannot
be translated now. It is not good for Asian languages.
If we use Translatewiki.net or other solutions, we can translate them.

 Hi all,

Git migration should happen tomorrow. Please monitor the documentation
you have translated on the wiki, there will be some changes done on
the English pages that need to be reflected by your translation to
 remain exact.
If you have any questions on this migration, please don't hesitate to
 ask on the dev list.
 Kind regards
 sophi

Like the others said, these are application names, so better not
translate them and keep them to not confuse the users already using
 OOo.

[libreoffice-l10n] Does Open... button of the initial screen need more room for localization

2011-07-29 Thread Cheng-Chia Tseng
The localized string for Open... such as Chinese (traditional) used
more room than expectation, so the localized string is overlapped by
the black triangle.
I filed a bug some time ago. [1]

But I later use shorter translation (2 full-width characters instead
of 4 ones) to bypass the issue.

If there are no other translators bothered with this issue, we can
close this bug.
Any inputs?
