Hi, You may use Pootle's comment box to notify future reviewers. Btw, Pivot table is build by a selection right? [libreoffice-l10n] Excel and Calc Function Comparison List
Hi, As i was not able to find an Excel and Calc comparison list, i think that it doesn't exits, and i've decided to make one. I've used Excel 2013 Functions List (as Category) and LibreOffice 3.6.x Guide(i cannot remember the version). You may find it here on Google Drive: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AtwDODVc-9BcdGhaQjNIZktqMC1WWG9INm5LQWw0VVEusp=sharing The reason that i want this were actually localization and standardize the functions as Microsft Excel for migrations etc. Thus i've also created a Tr localized comparison list which may help other locales to create one, here it is: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AtwDODVc-9BcdEdEcFEzWTVza0JvOUlsaFhfNm9JN2cusp=sharing The lists has two sheets, first sheet is the main list compared to Excel, and the second sheet is created by our guide. The Yellow highlighted cells are empty functions, which may not exist or which i cannot find(new functions etc) i highlighted some text with red, that means the equivalent is not the same. I see that nearly %99 of the functions match each other some statistical and trigon. functions differ(aaa.ddd used .) For localization we will arrange it similar to excel. Anyway this list will be very useful for everyone i think -if it is finished! I ask you for help, if we can finalize it it can be a good appendix to guides also a reference page on wiki. @Andras, You said 1st Spet is the deadline for 4.1.2 RC1, how much time do we have to finish our translations for 4.1.2 release? Because there is serious work to do for the functions on Pootle - Checking the UI and also need to check the help will take time. If we had our functions, definitions and help in separate po files, it can be easier but now i think i will search one by one on Pootle. --- Anyway, what do you think about finalizing this Comparison List? If you may want to join i can share the the edit permission, or you may have the file and i can join to the suitable platform. Best regards, Zeki * Ms Excel Function List http://office.microsoft.com/en-au/excel-help/excel-functions-by-category-HA102752955.aspx?CTT=1 I did not removed the hyperlinks of Excel functions because for new functions we need to enter bug reports and it is easier to copy and paste the definition of the function to the bug report -- To unsubscribe e-mail to: l10n+unsubscr...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/l10n/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted
Re: [libreoffice-l10n] Re: Bugs to fix in translations
2013/8/26 Andras Timar tima...@gmail.com: Hi Zeki, Is it possible to have this fixes in upcoming release 4.1.1? I pushed the fixes just in case. I don't know about another release candidate (rc3) for 4.1.1. Your fixes will be in 4.1.2 for sure. I wish there will be a RC3, because these are serious errors. And i feel really sorry when Turkish users started to report issues on functions. Especially, the corporate users. On the other hand, talking about translations; functions are translated in Turkish, because it is easier to learn their functionality. But the bad thing is, Microsoft Turkish localizers are not very successful in localizing the function names IMHO... Also Microsoft has a strange policy to change function names in Excel versions The point we stand is interoperatability with MS Excel, because it is widely used in business and best collobration with Microsoft Excel users - like or not that's the fact As per working for best interoperability, i used to work on a spreadsheet; collected all available calc functions, definitions in both English and Turkish, published in our wiki and it helped many of our users. And i wanted to go further and make a cross table with Excel functions in order to make a reference document and use it for qa too. But could'nt have time to start anyway... May be it can be useful by other locales -at least to collect the functions... Here it is: http://db.tt/lpVxTgGH I still search for a guide/complete list of translations of function names English-Turkish. (Is there a OpenFormula/Calc/Excel cross table?) There are lists like http://wwwhome.ewi.utwente.nl/~trieschn/excel/excel.html but they are not complete or updated. For. ex. ISNA function not listed etc... My idea to maintaining function names: - Creating a new category in pootle (both in UI and Help) and moving all functions to there (I think it is not possible or easy and - Creating a reference document, like my spreadsheet or http://wwwhome.ewi.utwente.nl/~trieschn/excel/excel.html having a reference document/web interface/page will be fine and make easier to translate them and maintain them. On users view, if we have a cross table of functions with Excel, users(also localization teams) will be delighted to have such document/web page. Re: [libreoffice-l10n] Improving the usage of help.libreoffice.org site
2013/2/16 Martin Srebotnjak mi...@filmsi.net: Hi, Hi Martin, the only survey that would answer how good or bad current help content and current organization of help topics as well as need for help by the users would be to add a survey system into the LO UI, that would report back to a server - where/when do users press F1, what topics they look for etc. Upon installation of LO user would be asked if she allows LO to report back anonymously about the use of help system. Hopefully that could be done in a simple way, I just hope that help content calls are small parts of data that could be easily tracked back to actual situations. Such a query should run for a few months and then the data should be mined through to get meaningful results. I don't think this kind of tracking would give sufficient information. First there is a technical restriction, this kind of tracking will not include users which are staying the last stable version. And it is not a community sense approach, the info will be data only and it will be accumulated slowly and it will be very hard to comment of the output. Also many people will ignore such notification. It is a machine way and gives no space for the people's social behaviour and alternatives. We should see the help channels together in a complex picture, They must be taken complementary of each other Then one can start talking about other kinds of help etc. As i said, we shouldn't separate them or put them in order. Help is needed an it is served in multiple ways, the problem is awareness and promoting people to use them in any way which suits their needs. Starting with a simple and friendly survey will be a first step, also we all know that LibreOffice has a restricted manpower and other critical priorities. This kind of implementation may never come into life, or may irritate people to collect their information. I want to quote David Watson's words, sometimes you don't have to do it right, you just need to do something, or an old Turkish word Caravan train is merged on the road We cannot be perfect at the beginning but we have to start. I think such survey will also help to make people aware of LibreOffice's help channels at least which can be considered as a big gain imho. Re: [libreoffice-l10n] Improving the usage of help.libreoffice.org site
Hi, After reading the replies, and remembering the previous arguments, i want to point the important distinction between which is better approach and which way we should improve approach. Previously i said that we should change people's habits to get help, and all stuff we had discussed are hypothetical base which we stand on. But i am wondering that do we know people's choices, habits and their experiences on reaching help info or their thoughts? User surveys are best for in this conditions to get to know the users behavior. I can give my example about a user survey about the Pardus GNU/Linux which i've prepared and had very good results and feedback from users. It was about the problems on getting help, inclusion on contribution and their discouragements and plus and minus points. Maybe we should issue a survey about the general help picture of LibreOffice. English is not my native language thus it may have considered a weird language. I've used kwiksurveys before, that was very simple and has good options, if we have a better platform then it will be better. The basic questions can be as follows: - Have you ever heard the following help channels of LibreOffice --- ask.libreoffice.org portal --- LibreOffice forums --- LibreOffice user e-mail lists --- #LibreOffice IRC channel --- LibreOffice bundled/online help on help.libreoffice.org --- LibreOffice user guides - What will you do if you need help on LibreOffice --- I search the info for the solution on internet --- Ask to my friends who knows LibreOffice better --- Ask for help on genereal (non-LibreOffice) forums --- Ask for help on LibreOffice forums --- Ask for help on LibreOffice user e-mail lists --- Search on LibreOffice bundled help --- Search on LibreOffice Users gide - If you have used ask.libreoffice.org, could you please rate your satisfaction (1-10, 1 is worse 10 is very satisfying) . (same question for other channels) - Have you ever used LibreOffice bundled help, to learn new stuff and improve your skills to use LibreOffice components? - Have you ever used LibreOffice Guides, to learn new stuff and improve your skills to use LibreOffice components? - What do you feel during your search about getting help on LibreOffice --- I have no idea how to get help for my problem --- I am generally hopeless to find help, but i keep on trying --- I rarely find help --- I am very disappointed about all my this tries to get help --- I can usually find help --- I am a self learner and i love to find my own solutions, thus i am confident --- I always find help from real life friends --- I can find help from people on various internet platforms - What do you think about bundled help (help.libreoffice.org) -- I have no idea about it -- Yes i know it but i never used it for help -- It is crap, it gives me no help -- Not very good but sometimes useful -- Very good for self learning -- It is nice, have plenty of information and info about LibreOffice functions and tips -- Very good and satisfying - What do you think about LibreOffice Guides -- I have no idea about it -- Yes i know it but i never used one for help -- It is crap, it gives me no help -- Not good but sometimes useful -- It is nice, have plenty of information and info about LibreOffice functions and tips -- Very good and satisfying -- Teaches me all the stuff i need - Have you ever tried to learn more about using LibreOffice components and improve your skills by LibreOffice bundled help? If so, please rate it (1-10, 1 is worse 10 is very satisfying) - Have you ever tried to learn more about using LibreOffice components and improve your skills by LibreOffice Guides? If so, please rate it (1-10, 1 is worse 10 is very satisfying) - What do you think about ask.libreoffice.org -- I have no idea about it -- Ooo, the ghost cowboy town you mean? -- People are rude and they don't help me -- Finding answers could be late but it works -- Nice though -- Very good, the first place i ask for help and get it -- Thank god for it! (irc and e-mail list questions may be added similarly) - Did you ever got help from using social media (facebook, twitter, linkedin etc) -- Never tried, does it works? -- No, i am not a geek nor my network! -- Asked some but no one helped me -- Yes i had some -- My network is cool, and it is the fastest way to get help - Have you ever used Microsoft Office bundled help or help portal, if so, please share your thoughts (free format answers) If we could understand people's behavior better, we should focus on the minuses and improve them. But i should say that, getting help is about willing to get help and about self learning and willing to learn more. Which is the key point that we can promote it by our help resources. [libreoffice-l10n] An idea about Online Help redirection
Hi, I have an idea for the current online help redirection for locales other than the ones in the current help site:https://help.libreoffice.org/Main_Page The current situation for the users(except the ones in helpwiki) makes no sense, as it redirects directly to English content, and it does not help to you, as you are probably not an English speaking person. I am usimg LibreOffice in Turkish and this page makes no sense for me: https://help.libreoffice.org/swriter/.uno:HelpIndex?Language=trSystem=UNIXVersion=3.6#bm_id3149178 Do you see any usefull information to get help? Or icon recognizing for kids? Makes any sense for you, if you are a non-english spreaker? (Also i dont think this welcome page helps to English speakers too; it will be better that it has only says, welcome to our help content, please use the search bar or here is a simple navigation tree for you--which should be the Component and Component main index in embed help-- What is help?) Most locales have help packages, and lots of users are not aware to get them. Common behaviour is to download only installer, also there are tons of download sites which provide only the multilanguage installer, not the helppack. When you click to LibreOffice Help or F1, a dialog might appear and ask the user to install the help content: It seems that you have not installed the LibreOffice Help Pack, you may select ------ Install Helppack in your Language Go to online help (redirects to download page) checkbox dont ask me again, go directly to online help ** If the locale has not online help, it may show only installing helppack, or ask for redirection to the English content anyway *** I respect the %100 completion principle, but as a translator suffered that, i must say, over %50 means a lot... Thousand words, TWOHUNDREDTWENTYTHOUSAND words and may gather important help content which are already translated. Not all the content are critical, some thousand strings are more likely to be useless We really worked hard to translate it, it is very difficult some locales may never reach this level. It makes people cry when translating(I even cried :P) But at least we finished it and reached to %100 The current sitation is not helping to locales which are 50x99 percent translated. It is only punishment for them to see that wiki page, and the current work done needs respect as it needs to be seen by users. What do you think about this idea? And i want to spot two more issues, * There are thousand of duplicate strings, and thousands of Icon translations, i hope Pootle will have a great suggestion tool in future :) * I used English and German lang. for reference, the German translation is very outdated. ... Dear Andras, Could you help us to uptade the LibO 4.0 translations as previously you have said. But first of all we request you a last error check for errors and fatal errors, for pootle we have nearly 900 critical errors. Could you do it for us :) After fixing them, it will be better to update 4.0 translations. [libreoffice-l10n] Re: [libreoffice-marketing] more currencies for donations
25 Eyl 2012 11:30 tarihinde Florian Effenberger flo...@documentfoundation.org yazdı: Hello, Hi Florian, I've misse the recent updates about the donation page. Having credit card option is great, as the other methods are: * wire transfer - expensive and requires legal stuff * Paypal - increasing number of users but, registration and bank side applications etc. I think the easiest way to donate from Turkey is Credit card. And i was waiting that, though i have donated some on monday :) Well having more currencies great, but i wish Turkish Lira will be in this list. After debitting in foreign currencies, banks apply buy/sale transactions and the amount in local currency is calculated by using a higher rate as you know. If it is possible adding TRY - Turkish lira will be good. Also, -i've missed the thread as i mentioned above- i would like to ask about the localization of the Donate page. Re: [libreoffice-l10n] Translation bugs to fix in 3.6.2 rc1
2012/9/10 Andras Timar tima...@gmail.com: Hi, Hi Andras, Please find the error logs at the usual place: http://dev-www.libreoffice.org/l10n/errorlog/ Thanks for your notification. However, our process has changed a bit. I will not correct fatal help translation errors in git myself any more. A new piece of code has been developed, that checks for such errors build time before merge, and will not merge strings with errors. See https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=52246. Andras, as i previously said that we are tagging the original strings with the comment tombalak http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/l10n/msg04672.html As you said that, the strings with errors will not be merged, i think it is a good time to share the total list of tomabalaks gathered until now. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/38862200/Tombalaks.ods Here is the ODS spreadsheet. There are 43 tombalaks noticed bu Turkish translation team. Most of them are about the missing or wrong emph tags. I tried to note the reason and the component. Should i fill a bug report? Or is it fine here? So, if you wrote for example emph/ instead of /emph, did not close a tag, etc., that segment would be rejected, and English original would be used in translation. I'll work on translator-friendly error reports later. For now, please check Pootle tests, at least xmltags when you translate help. Will work on it. Re: [libreoffice-l10n] New keyboard shortcuts: Ctrl+[ and ]
2012/7/29 Jon Lachmann j...@lachmann.nu: The thing I am thinking of is other languages with keyboards short of the [ and ] keys. All translators should check their keyboard layout to see if it is possible to enter the Ctrl+[ and Ctrl+] combinations, otherwise it must be added to the source. The swedish shortcuts added are Ctrl+8 and Ctrl+9 (like in swedish msword). Hi, It is impossible to use Ctrl+[ and Ctrl+] in Turkish keyboard layout.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keyboard_layout#Turkish_.28Q-keyboard.29 because [ and ] are already key combinations as the same reason Michael Bauer said above. Although i've looked to MS Office, their said combination for Turkish CTRL+Shift+ and CTRL+Shift+ doesn't work on MS Office 2007 and 2010 :) The reason that and are usually made by ccombinations. However, it works on Office 2013 as [Alt+Ctrl+Shift+1] and [Alt+Ctrl+Shift+] both needs 4 fingers at once and makes no sense. [libreoffice-l10n] About the Outdated Help Content
Hello, 3 Days ago I asked a question on the documentation list. Besides the question Tom Davies said that the help content is quite outdated, while working on the translation of the content i made a suggestion for marking the outdated content with a unique comment word, which we can track and report the outdated content. I qouote the msg here: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/documentation/msg06389.html - 2012/6/17 Tom Davies tomdavie...@yahoo.co.uk Hi :) The embedded help in English is a bit old and out-of-date now. Is your team checking it works and fixing it as they translate? If so then it would be fantastic if we could translate it back into English! Actually, we dont checkreport them as we considered them as must be recent till now. And the loacalizers are not regular users of all the applications. We face them sometimes. eg:https://translations.documentfoundation.org/tr/libo_help/translate.html?unit=14569917 Well, i think there might be a good feedback option for the QA of the original strings. Pootle has a comment box, which we can add a unique word to the strings which we may think: - Outdated, - Bad wording - Vanished feature etc. For exampe a unique word of comment as tombalak, will work sugh a tag, and it will be possible to track this strings and report them. LibreOffice 3.4 rc2 will contain these translation updates. According to the plan rc2 will be 3.4.0 final, if all go well. So the next translation update will be for 3.4.1. I'll do the push next time when a release (3.4.1 rc) is coming. I understand that the this was the last push befor 3.4 stable relase, so rc2 translations will be in 3.4? However, we just managed to achieve %100 percent on 3.4 UI translations today :( . Is it possible to update Turkish UI files. It is very important for our campaign to present LibreOffice as it has a %100 Turkish User Interface. We gathered a good localization team and thing are getting quite well.
