Re: [lace] conventions
I was wondering the same thing. I have 6 and they are nicely stacked on a shelf, they are also haunting me. Have you finished the lace samples you brought home? (accompanied by spooky music) Becca back from HOT MOIST DC and into hot dry Utah Hi there :-) My enquiring mind wants to know... What do you all do with the tote bags that you bring home from these conventions? I have 5 now. One has patterns in it. One has my demonstrating kit for the fair. Re: [lace] Conventions - tote bags
Dear Lauren, The bags carry a date and logo, or can be identified easily when you reference the IOLI bulletins. Therefore, I keep them with lots of other lace ephemera of the 20th-21st centuries. In combination with the library and lace collection here it would be a start for my lace museum dream. I seem to be the only one still wishing we had a fully-dedicated lace and embroidery museum in the U.S. to which these treasures can be donated. Since most American lacemakers have never been abroad, they do not realize that all the European countries where lace is made have numerous lace collections that are open to the public. These greatly enhance the 5-day tour experience for those who attend the OIDFA Congresses. It is my dream that the U.S. will have a museum some day that is as powerful a proponent of lace as the Powerhouse Museum in Australia. If the Australians can do so much to keep lace always a presence, why cannot Americans? I acknowledge the large lace and embroidery collections in mega museums and universities in the U.S. However, arranging to see their collections can involve a major effort. Some charge fees that are beyond the means of lace lovers. And because they are in large cities, the cost of hotel, parking, and food is elevated. Since there is already a small lace museum near San Francisco (located in a strip mall store), a fully-dedicated museum in a smaller city on the East Coast is my dream that will probably never come true. Re: [lace] Pillow holder
Greetings all, A few years ago I bought a wreath storage holder at my hardware shop (Home Depot) when it went on sale after the holidays, and it's fantastic for cookie pillows up to 22 diameter. I store it hanging behind the door of my storage closet and it takes almost three pillows! [lace] Pillow holder
I have one of those wreath storage containers, too, and I like it. The only bad part is the bump that holds the wreath in place. I took an old knife, heated it over the flame on my gas stove, melted/cut that part out, smoothed the edges of the hole, then glued a piece of plastic over the hole. It's a little bulky for carrying around, but great for storage. Peg in Fairview Park OH where it's the perfect late summer evening ~~~ G: What is it you want? Re: [lace] Pillow holder
I have a couple wreath holder bags. They are the soft sided kind, and no bunp in the middle. They will hold a 24 pillow, or two. They are deeper than needed for one pillow. The negative point is the wording on the side...Seasons Greetings and a picture of a wreath. I don't like to carry one around all year but they make great dust-free storage. Before I got them, I tried a Rubbermaid version that claimed 24. It was soft sided but with a stiff insert that went all around the edge. With the insert in place, it no longer had enough space for a 24 pillow. I returned that one. The commercial companies also make wreath bags for Halloween. If you are interested in this sort of bag, watch for the clearance sales at the end of a holiday. Alice in Oregon -- recovering from County Fair where I put in 85 hours labor in a week. [lace] help with info
Hello! Does anyone have the book from The Poldi Pezzoli Museum in Milan? Here is a link to what the cover looks like on amazon.com. http://www.amazon.com/Poldi-Pezzoli-Museum-Milan/dp/8842209074/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8qid=1313203998sr=8-1I believe there are a couple of different versions, this particular one happens to be in English. I don't care what language it is in, but I need to find the dimensions of a particular piece. I am beggining to get desperate as the museum has taken the piece down off of their website, they are not answering emails, and my copy of the book has been delayed and won't arrive for another 10 days. I am looking for piece 3850, which is an Italian piece of early lace, and should be on page300, figure 346. I have also learned about a book I was unaware of titled Industrie Femminili Italiane? I am studying a piece of lace which is in it, around pages 94-96. Thanks, Kim - To unsubscribe send email to majord...@arachne.com containing the line: unsubscribe lace y...@address.here.
