Dear Bobbin Lace Makers,

My name is Sharon. My mother was an avid bobbin lace maker/teacher in
Tennessee. She learned the craft in Le Puy, France (as did I and my
sister, though neither of the two persued it). My mother passed away
in 1993 and I’m finally selling off items and shipping them to lovely
new homes.

If you have not as yet seen what I have for sale please go to the
Slickpic website I have created and peruse the items. There are
different albums: bobbins, threads, pillows, tools, etc…

 http://slickpic.us/483291MNNw

When you get to the site -
1) click on the category you want (ie - bobbins, threads...) then if
there are subfolders they will show up and you can click on the one of
interest (ie Midland Spangled, Continental,...).
2) When you get into the album - click the first photo on the top line.

You'll find the picture title in the bottom left of your screen this
is where the item# is and the pricing. Just below it will be a
description For Ex: length of bobbin and other descriptive
information.

I apologize, but I have no control over the size of the text.

If you are interested in purchasing items -
1) Make a list of what you want and then e-mail me (include Item # and
price – ex. WMS-12 $14
2) I will e-mail you a total along with shipping pricing/options
3) Once we're agreed on totals then you can send payment via PayPal (I
will give you my acct #)
4) I will ship your purchase. I will make the shipping as streamlined
and economical as possible - and I'll let you know my recommendation.

I fulfill orders on a 1st come basis - for example if two people
e-mail me wanting the same item I will sell to the 1st e-mail received
and I will let you know if someone else has dibs on something you
wanted.

If you feel my pricing is off-base please e-mail me your comments and
suggestions depending upon the item and quantity of your order there
may be a possibility for negotiation. I've priced items
reasonably/attractively (so I’ve been told) I'm delighted to be send
these items to happy new homes – as all were lovingly used and enjoyed
by my mother during her 20+ years as an active teacher, demonstrator,
and above all lace maker.

Feel free to forward this link to fellow lace makers, collectors, or
other lace making group contacts you have.

Please e-mail me and include a contact phone number (if you are in
the US or Canada) and I’ll get in touch with you to let you know
whether I still have what you’re interested in and what it will cost
to ship to you. I have already shipped items to Malta and Australia
and all over the USA.

Warmest regards,

Sharon H

[lace] IOLI Convention Arachne Get Together.

2014-06-23 Thread Elizabeth Ligeti
 Hi Janice,
I will be there at Sacramento, and Yes, I will also come to the Arachne
Get-together! (Wouldn't miss if for quids!!)
My DH will be with me, too, I expect, - so 2 seats, please if you are
counting chairs!!!

I am going to do the gold & silver Early laces with Gil Dye, and am looking
forward to it. I love the early laces, and have done a couple of Gil's
patterns. In fact I am putting a hankie edge I made from a pattern she put
in UK Lace a few years ago into the exhibition. I worked it in cotton, of
course (I usually work in cotton these days!)

I look forward to seeing your giraffe.

I must take this opportunity to tell you all that I needed some gold &
silver metallic threads for this class , and found one of the threads
mentioned in the class requirements at The Tatting Corner - somewhere in
USA. Luckily the lady takes Aussie cards and Paypal, and I was able to order
from her, and have the threads sent to my daughter Helen, in Seattle. (Saved
a heap on postage!) The lady was SO helpful, and the parcel arrived at
Helen's home within 3 days. I can recommend shopping there - for threads,
anyway- and you get excellent service with this online shopping.
(Hooray! I find so many stores will not accept credit cards or Paypal from
overseas addresses. It is so frustrating, and annoying, so it is very
special when you find a nice place that is happy to deal with someone
outside of America.)

Regards from Liz in Melbourne, Oz.

[lace] Lace At Sweet Briar & National Geographic

2014-06-23 Thread hottleco
Hello All! Clay & her committee rolled out the welcome mat at Sweet Briar
College last week & what a time we had! In addition to the excellent
workshops, we were treated to selections from the Sweet Briar lace collection,
including some of my favorites--drop dead Milanese & fine whitework. Tonder,
Duchesse, Vieux Flanders, Binche & needle lace were also shown. White gloves &
magnifiers were provided so we didn't miss a detail. Usual disclaimers,
satisfied attendee, etc! An EGA friend sent me the April 2014 issue of
National Geographic with an article on lace in Brittany. Lots of lace (white &
black!) plus embroidered costumes are shown & identified by
village/departement. Sincerely, Susan Hottle, Erie, PA USA

[lace] IOLI Convention Arachne Get Together.

2014-06-23 Thread Janice Blair
Is Lace really quiet these days?  I haven't had a digest for over a week.

I
thought I would mention that I haven't given up on a get together for our
Arachne group at the convention in Sacramento in August.  I have been trying
to arrange a meeting area for our group with the co-hosts.

I suggest that we
meet on Tuesday evening, say 6:30 pm.  I don't think there are any events
scheduled on Tuesday evening.  Teachers Showcase will be Monday and the
Tat-off is Wednesday.  I can hopefully let you all know where we will meet
before convention, but if not, listen for an announcement on Sunday or look
for a message on the information board.

We can have our usual impromptu free
raffle.  I have some prizes given to me already.  I had about ten people email
me about the cost of a meal in California and they all suggested meeting
somewhere else.  We could bring our own drink to the get together and maybe
some snacks to pass around.  Does that sound okay with everyone?

Lace
content - What classes are you all signed up for.  I am having a break from
Beds and doing Ipswich. I will be bringing my last three Thomas Lester pieces
to the Display Room, which includes the Giraffe that had not been worked
before.  Hoping to learn some new techniques in Ipswich.  Please reply to the
list this time to get a digest generated.

Re: [lace] Vologda

2014-06-23 Thread J D Hammett

Hi fellow Arachnids,

As I do not 'do' Facebook I could not get into the Vologda site, but I found
the interview on the Lace News page {(http://tinyurl.com/osxa4ks)from Laurie
Waters' email] both thoughtful and thought provoking. We may grumble and
complain, but just think how lucky we are; many
lace-clubs, -groups, -societies and several guilds accessible world wide ;-D

Joepie in East Sussex (UK) where the sun is shining brightly, the starlings
are screeching around the birdfeeder and the washing is drying at the other
end of the garden. Bliss!

Laurie
Good interview on the Vologda Lace Museum.

There is a Russian language group on Facebook
https://www.facebook.com/groups/irinavlasova/ There was also one on
Ravelry,

but it hasn't had any activity recently.
