[Leaf-user] Bash errors on Dachstein v1.0.1 system
I had loaded up bash (and accompanying libraries lrdline2 and lncurses) this weekend to get the nice shell features. It was working fine for a couple of days and I was really enjoying the bash shell's tab auto-completion. Today I noticed that although the firewall was routing traffic, weblet, ssh and keyboard/monitor access did not work. Each time I would try to login I would get the following error message: "free: called with unallocated block argument Report this to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Stopping myself..." I've decided to forego the luxuries of bash so that weblet, ssh and local logins still work. This is on a 486DX266/16MB system. Ramlog is set to 2MB (2048) while ramdisk is at 6MB (6144). The box was using the following packages (before I removed bash, lrdline2 and lncurses): etc, ramlog, local, modules, dhclient, dhcpd, dnscache, libz, sshd, weblet, lncurses,l rdline2,bash Any ideas? Did I hit the package limit for a 16MB system? If so I hope portsentry requires a lot less resources than bash as I plan on setting it up this coming weekend. Re: [Leaf-user] wanpipe
Perplexing... So, it appears the modules are loading ok in both instances. >From Michael's quote of 'Starting all WANPIPE devices:', one can narrow his down to the wanpipe.lrp from Sangoma, as the one from LRP 2.9.8 has a different start message. One thing I noticed in the Dachstein-CD changelog was the moving of ifconfig from a few packages into it's own separate one. Check and see if it still exists in /sbin. If not, you'll have to add it to your syslinux.cfg or lrpkg.cfg? file as wanrouter depends on it. One would suspect that there'd be some sort of message in syslog though. As well, check under /proc/net/wanrouter for any files & cat them for any clues. You might also want to peruse ftp://ftp.sangoma.com/linux/ and try to identify the exact version of the modules you're running, it could be that newer ones would help. HTH, Doug. RE: [Leaf-user] The script to send log files
Kev, Here is the directions I put together after I upgraded from ES2B to DachsteinCD v1.0.1: Just in case anyone is considering it, I switched over from ESB2 to DSv1.0.1 yesterday. The system in question is a 486DX266 with 16MB RAM and an old 4x atapi cdrom. This PC cannot boot from a CD directly so the following is tailored as such. It was VERY easy: - Used WinISO to extract and add to the DS-CD ISO image. Added echowall, portsentry and ez-ipupd lrp packages, extracted bootdisk.bin file. - Used WinImage to create a new boot disk using the bootdisk.bin image from the ISO file. Changed bootdisk format to 1680KB from default size to get more space. - Modified syslinux and lrpkg.cfg files with the additional modules I wanted (libz/sshd, portsentry and echowall). - Modified default root RAM in syslinux.cfg to 6MB (ramdisk_size=6144) and boot device to 1680 floppy (boot=/dev/fd0u1680,msdos). - Dug out an old 4x Atapi CDROM and plugged it into the VESA IDE card. - Put VESA video card and keyboard back into machine so I can debug/configure after initial boot up. - Inserted the new boot floppy and cd into the machine and rebooted. - After boot up (much faster even with old 4x cdrom) edit the /etc/modules to reflect the 2 NIC's in my system. - Modified ramlog package to 2MB (2048) - Modified /etc/lrp.conf with mail server, email address, date server and ping hosts. - Modified /etc/network.conf with machine hostname (default is "firewall") - Generated root password via passwd command from command line. - Set-up openSSH keys: Mounted CD (mount -t iso9660 -r /dev/hda /mnt), installed sshkey package (cd /mnt, lrpkg -i sshkey), generated keys (makekey), unmount CD (cd /, umount /mnt) - Added "sshd: 192.168.1." to hosts.allow so I can ssh into firewall. - In backup menu, set all packages to partial type and floppy disk destination. - Backed up everything except logs. - Rebooted and voila, all LAN PC's surfing the net again. - Used putty to ssh into firewall verifying I can remove video card and keyboard. - Brought up weblet interface to verify it works (much nicer looking!). - SCP'd mountain time localtime file into /etc to get system clock squared away. - Backup /etc. Done in a little over an hour. hi, You can move packages from one floppy to the other, like dhclient, dhcpd, dnscache to name a few. I left the core packages MODULES, LOCAL, ETC, ROOT on the primary floppy. Re: [Leaf-user] running out of space on floppy.
Sorry for the late addition: I am running a two-floppy setup with Eiger2beta, it should be similar: I have packages on both floppies, first is nearly full and second has decent room. Here is my syslinux.cfg: - display syslinux.dpy timeout 0 default linux append=load_ramdisk=1 initrd=root.lrp initrd_archive=minix ramdisk_size=20480 root=/dev/ram0 boot=/dev/fd0u1680,msdos PKGPATH=/dev/fd0u1680,/dev/fd1u1440 LRP=etc, log, local, modules, dhclient, dnscache, dhcpd, weblet, sshd, smb, lpd, lynx, psentry, vim -- I believe all you have to do is add the other floppy to the PKGPATH (comma separated), and go on listing your packages. I also distributed my pkgs so that the second disc contains non-essentials, just in case I need to do without it. The last 4 pkgs in this list are on floppy 2. Note that the 2 floppies use different formats (the second drive doesn't like large floppies). Good luck, Alex Original message by Ewald Wasscher: -- This is fairly easy, and I have it working. This is what I did: 1. Format a new floppy for the second disk (the B: drive) 2. move all .lrp packages except for root.lrp from the first disk to the second.disk 3.in syslinux.cfg: change PKGPATH=/dev/fd0u1680 to: PKGPATH=/dev/fd1 for a 1.44 MB formatted floppy in the second floppy disk drive. From now on packages are loaded from and backed up to the second diskette. I don't know if it's possible to have other .lrp packages than root.lrp on the first diskette, maybe it works, maybe it doesn't. RE: [Leaf-user] The script to send log files
Hello Kevin. I used to send me mail about the new IP and resolv.conf when dhclient exits on E2B. I got error and later found out because at that moment, the 'user' is not defined yet and so there is a line From: without nothing so Mail Server does not like it. And I have changed the mail script inside /bin/grep to have parameter -f to explicily define 'from' name. I do not know if that's the case with you, but you can do something like that: modify the mail script inside /bin/grep not to delete the temporary smtp.xxx files, then run your mail not from command-line but from crontab or from booting. Then look at them in /tmp directory. It may help why the Mail Server does not like it. ___ Leaf-user mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/leaf-user

This isn't ethereal, but tethereal: tethereal is a tcpdump-like network traffic dumping tool which works in text mode. Full blown ethereal this is not. Several things are nice about tethereal over tcpdump: * More powerful filtering language * More protocols supported * Lots of file formats supported, including translation capabilities Drawbacks: * Non-standard filtering language * Bigger, more libraries needed If you use this package, realize that it can be slimmed down by removing libraries like libz, libm, and perhaps libdl which may be available separately. I think I must have included them all because I felt the trade-off in not having to get all those packages separately would be best for many people. ___ Leaf-user mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/leaf-user

It is indeed fixable; however, you'll need to convert to glibc 2.1 or recompile the packages under glibc 2.0. I had lots of problems getting newer networking tools to compile under 2.0; after a while, one gets a little worn down by it all. There is talk of converting Dachstein-CD to glibc 2.1; someone's done it already on their own system. My log appears much the same. wanpipe: Probing for WANPIPE hardware wanpipe: S508-ISA card found, port 0x360 wanpipe: Allocating maximum 2 devices: wanpipe1 - wanpipe2 Looks normal but no interface exists. -Original Message- From: Michael D. In my case, syslogd messages show that the four (4) .O files from Sangoma's wanpipe.lrp are functioning and without error. There is *no* ominous statement like your example. For me, the most startling indicator is this: Starting all WANPIPE devices: When I review /usr/sbin/wanrouter, case start), I cannot see any condition under which *NOTHIING* more is echo'd than this line, unless there is *NO* file in /etc/wanpipe/ ;< Nevertheless, that line is all that I see, then starting the eth0 interface. Sometimes, depending on which errant configuration permutation I use, I will get three of these: Cannot find device "wanpipe1" Or, this: Error: an inet prefix is expected rather than "dev". Re: [Leaf-user] @home.com to @rogers.com
yeah - there sure is - but it'll be different depending on what area you are in - assuming you are getting your IP dynamically and are not specifying your DNS settings (which you really shouldn't anyway). Assuming this is the way you are setup (non-static DNS) all you need to do is type "cat /etc/resolv.conf" at the LRP command line (no quotes) and then just write down and add whatever comes after search i.e. something.phub.net.cable.rogers.com that is the end of the FQDN for everything rogers (i.e. proxy, mail, news) so your mail servers would be: smtp.something.phub.net.cable.rogers.com and pop.something.phub.net.cable.rogers.com S >From: "Jason" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >Subject: [Leaf-user] @home.com to @rogers.com >Date: Sun, 25 Nov 2001 21:22:33 -0500 > >I need mail settings for the new @rogers.com email server. >What are you guys changing you email settings to. You don't need to upgrade your entire system (although that might be the easiest/best solution), and you don't have to boot off CD. You can boot off floppy and still use the CD disto, and there's still a floppy-only version available, so no CD required. If you don't want to upgrade everything, you can grab the latest POSIXness from CVS on SourceForge (see the SF docs for anonymous CVS download access). You may also be able to simply swap out your root.lrp, which will get you the bulk of the Dachstein upgrades (new busybox, new POSIXness, &c), but you may hit a few snags...I don't think there are any glaring problems, but I haven't tested this sort of "upgrade". BTW: If you do choose to try updating your root.lrp, use the Dachstein root.lrp from one of the floppy releases...the CD-Rom versions have modified backup and init scripts that don't make much sense for a floppy-only boot. thanks, I will look into this later this week -Original Message- From: Robert Williams [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Monday, November 26, 2001 2:43 AM To: Kevin; [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: [Leaf-user] The script to send log files HI Kevin, I am just about out of ideas. If Charles says the email is broken on E2B I believe him. As I remember I could never get it to work on that system either. The advice about upgrading sounds like the way to go. By the way you don't need to be able to boot from the cdrom to be able to use it. I boot from a floppy and load the lrp files off of the cdrom. It works like a dream. The read me file is at : http://lrp.steinkuehler.net/files/diskimages/dachstein-CD/README.txt Good luck, Robert Williams >This is from my /etc/network.conf, maybe this will help troubleshoot. RE: [Leaf-user] Announce keyboard.lrp
Could you add Portuguese keyboard? Thanks -Original Message- From: KP Kirchdörfer [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Sunday, November 25, 2001 9:19 PM To: leaf-user Subject: [Leaf-user] Announce keyboard.lrp You'll find a new keyboard.lrp, which is an extension of Jacques Nilo's keybfr.lrp at http://leaf.sourceforge.net/devel/jnilo/ It adds support for german, spanish and finnish keyboard layouts. And as default us-keyboard layout. I know Etienne Charlier did something similar - but this one is based on busybox loadkmap, which is part of Dachstein (and maybe Oxygen) and therefor needs only additional 3kb of space. A short "user guide" has been sent to Jacques, and will be added as soon as he'll find time. To start, you'll find all you need to know in /etc/init.d/keyboard.conf.
