[LU] Ipswich addendum - Tom Lees

2014-01-28 Thread nat...@sky.com
Probably because I have tried to wipe it from my mind but I forget to mention
the performance of Tom Lees - I have never seen a worse 'footballer' than this
lad. He is generally poor on the ball but yesterday he took it to new heights
(lows?)
Every time and I mean every, he had the ball at his feet he looked to turn back
and pass it to Kenny or just lumped it forward. Given that we had no target man
this was more stupid than normal.
It got so bad and so predictable that fans were genuinely laughing towards the
end of the game at his ineptitude. Yes he is an OK defender but you need more
than that at this level and sorry Tom, you just have not got it
A reflection on the game is the fact that for me, Warnock was man of the match !

Re: [LU] Ipswich

2014-01-28 Thread Jim Moran
I'm trying to think if I've ever seen a lower quality bunch if players turn out
for Leeds and I can't say I have. The league 1 Leeds would beat this team hands
down.

Depressing.

[LU] Ipswich

2014-01-28 Thread nat...@sky.com
Well I may have been looking forward to this pre match but after about
10minutes I was looking forward to the final whistle, so poor was the fare on
offer.
2 poor teams, playing poorly does not make for a great spectacle especially in
the rain.
As expected we began with the same team as started against Leicester, the only
change being Diouf for Varney, who did not even make the bench, giving credence
to the Varney to Blackburn rumours.
Against Leicester we started with passion and commitment and some flair
creating chances galore early on - yesterday by half time our sum total was a
shot by Austin that then keeper saved down to his right but which looked like
it was going wide anyway, plus McCormack could only skim with the top of his
head a too high cross. They were no better and also created little in a game
littered with odd off sides - I say off because there were so many of them,
mainly within a few yards of the halfway line and not appealed for by either
team.
The only bright point were a couple of nice triangles between Kebe, Byram and
Diouf along our right touchline which came to nothing - not helped by the
linesman who was 2 yards away but was the only one who did not see Byram 'taken
out' when going for a one two.
Diouf clearly has more class and skill than the rest of the team but I am not
sure what actual use he is in the present line up. His lack of pace and lack of
goal scoring threat makes him a luxury we do not need.
The 20k crowd (up to you if that is good or not) greeted half time with muted
applause and a few boos. These boos were really ramped up fairly early into the
second half when a long range shot should have caused Kenny no worries but he
somehow let it go through him and into the corner of the net - shocking
mistake. This brought chants of 'we all love Leeds' from our new singers in the
South Stand whereas the Kop responded with 'what the F is going on' for a few
minutes before getting behind the team again. Things then improved slightly
when Stewart who had got some real stick off the crowd a few minutes before for
checking back and passing the ball to them ,when the chance was there for him
to have a run at them, did just that and although he seemed to have run out of
space and lost a bit of control in the box he was tripped and we got the nailed
on but soft penatly
Capt Ross hit it home and McD brought on Mowatt and Poleon - who were about to
be brought on before the penalty
This injection of youth and pace roused the crowd and Mowatts prompting passing
and Poleons direct running did liven things up a bit but to say that the last
half hour was entertaining would be stretching a bit
At last the final whistle put us out of our misery and it was a point apiece -
all either team desreved on a night that will soon be forgotten.
The applause at the end was subdued and there were a few shouts of abuse but
mainly fans were just apathetic - they are fed up to the back teeth with the
take over nonsense and the lack of transfers despite all the big talk from Haig
The five minutes or so between the goals showed that the fans are desperate to
get behind the team and support them BUT that patience has worn out, 10 years
of dross has made fans patience wafer thin

Anyway roll on Saturday and 3 points :-)

Went behind but now level 1-1 Ross McCormack penalty.
Kenny apparently had a howler for their goal - a 30 yard speculative shot that
he should've easily saved.
I'd nearly take the draw now!

Can't help thinking that tonight is make or break for BMD - I hope it isn't.
I just feel if we could get a decent foothold early in the game, it would give
us the confidence we need to go on and win the game and build on this to
eventually get back in to play off contention.
We've had our bad patch, it's time for some other teams to have a wobble!!

It depends what you're comparing it against. I saw us play at Doncaster in
December, a game we won three nil, and we played much quicker and more exciting
football against Leicester. And compared to Sheffield Wednesday it was like
watching a different team.

Some of the play was quick against Leicester, and if you don't think the ball
hitting the woodwork, at both ends, players missing one on ones with the
keeper, and the ball just flashing wide of the goal is exciting, albeit not
satisfying from our point of view, then I think you're not enjoying your
football that much.

Or perhaps it's just that as I'm no longer a season ticket holder, and only
attend occasionally, I don't have that jaded feeling I used to have, and enjoy
the games much more now I go sporadically.

Sorry to be the voice of gloom but I eventually got round to watching the
Leicester first half and all I could say was that it was an improvement on
Rocdale and Sheffield Wed but that statement is pretty worthless.

I think it's one of the few times where the performance exceeded the
expectation level which was so low pre- Leicester.

To say we played 'quick exciting' football though is stretching it a bit. I
thought we competed and were the better side for 30 mins. We were obviously
helped by the manager actually playing a system that the players were familiar
with and also the dropping of Murphy and Pugh.

I am too looking forward to tonight but I fear the worse. A defeat Followed by
a gubbing by Tarn on Saturday and that could spell the end for BMD.

[LU] Game tonight

2014-01-28 Thread nat...@sky.com
Irrespective of the lack of transfer activity and the nonsense of the ongoing
takeover there is an important game tonight
Performance wise we did stop the rot in the Leicester game but of course we
still lost. Tonight we need to get 3 points and we need to do it with a bit of
style.
Whilst the crowd are 100% behind McDermott in so much as they all want him to
succeed, a fair number are starting to doubt his actual ability after a few
awful performances and strange team selections

McD has to get it right tonight - his instinct will, presumably, be to pick the
same team as did reasonably well last time out. Smith (hat-trick last night to
make it 4 in 2 behind closed door games) is still banned and Hunt, who also
scored v Hull is still not quite match fit and Diouf did not play in midweek.

GFH are still trying in regards to fans and have made it £20 to get in tonight,
but reading about ticket sales on (obsessed) waccoe it does not seem to be
working that well, with a crowd nearer 20 than 30 expected.
