We are still 4th and the playoffs look nailed on now. We are winning without
playing well.

I'm feeling good.

We haven't come close to performing like we did against Derby,
fluent, confident, moving through midfield in triangles quick feet quick
passing, accurate passing. Since then I don't know what it is but just simple
passing seems to be too hard we are bumbling along and scraping through games.
the joy and optimism post derby has waned and shrivelled like an old apple
john. Ha.

Re: [LU] BCFC 1 - 3 LUFC - the Antipodean Armchair

2017-03-04 Thread Alec McQueen
Another 10 more like. This is going to be our best chance to get back into the
big time for a decade. Monk has got a bunch of very average journeymen winning
games that we used to lose. God knows how he's doing it, but he is.

The problem is that monk does not look like a long term fixture. If we lose him
we are going back to the long line of 4th division managers that we burnt
through.

Does anyone understand MC's strategy on monk's contract? Makes no sense to me.
Right now, MC is on the brink of owning half of a massive premier league
football club, but he seems not to understand the criticality of monk in the
equation. Or is it monk dragging his feet cos he wants to manage back in the
premier league, and if we don't make it... Or does the other Italian not like
monk for some reason?

Cheers
Alec

See, I think he meant it. He saw the defender slip, he saw the goalie
approaching, he thought "if I get a toe on that...".

He wouldn't pull it off 95 times in every hundred, maybe, so it was a "fluke"
in that sense. But he *did* "mean" it.

2017-03-04 Thread Matt Anderson
I'm never optimistic these days but you see clubs have runs where they are
unbeatable, like hudds recently then they go off the boil for no reason.

A Boro fan colleague told me that they didn't play really well at all last year
but ground out wins. He would fit in nicely on the list. All the way through
the season he said they were not good enough and they ended up nicking an
automatic spot after being brilliant the year before and not turning up at
Wembley

I'm in Kazakhstan at moment so fell asleep about 3 mins after the first goal
and he didn't mean that, he knocked it in the general direction but got lucky.
No complaints though

Anyone going to Fulham on Tuesday. I'm in the home end. Do list meets happen
anymore??

[LU] BCFC 1 - 3 LUFC - the Antipodean Armchair

2017-03-04 Thread Peter Castlehouse
This could be a moment in history for this list, I don't ever post a match
report. But I want to.
Apart from Wood's lucky poke - yes he was in the right place and lucky that
their defender didn't get a toe to it to spoil it all - we were crap in the
first half.
I have no idea why Charlie Taylor is being overlooked for Berardi, apart
from injury. Every pass in the first 30 mins that Berardi made went to
nowhere or a Brum player.
Jansson played a lot better than he did on the last run out, so cannot
understand the list's criticism of his workrate.
Dallas is not a winger. Doukara is a waste of money. Where was Viera?
First half, the midfield was crap and it took a creative punt by the right
back to set up the centre forward for a lucky poke.

O'Kane did NOT get one mention by the commentary team in the first half, yet
he had the audacity to look aggrieved when he was substituted for Phillips.
And then what a transformation. Phillips played like he knew (at last)
what the hell to do with the ball, brilliant build up for the second, and
Wood gets another!
Suddenly the team started to control the pace, didn't look too much under
pressure, but still couldn't control the midfield!
Bring on a sub - a 20 year old Spaniard who is supposed to be a star in the
making, five minutes later he scores a goal worthy of Lionel Messi!
Fans go wild, I grin and finish my cup of tea at 8.40am Saturday morning.

Nowhere near good enough to win the playoffs, so I see another season out of
the top flight

cheers

MARCHING ON TOGETHER

[LU] The world HAS gone mad!

2017-03-04 Thread Rob Heath
OKthese 3 things are seemingly insane, but I suppose they could be
explained away:
1. The population of Britain has been transmogrified into lemmings, and we
are all merrily tearing towards the cliff-edge of leaving the EU.
2. The population of the USA has proven itself to be even more stupid than
the world thought they were.
3. Men all over the world have suddenly been consumed by the
misapprehension that growing a ridiculous beard and then shaving the sides
and back of their head makes them look cool, whereas in fact it just makes
them look like complete tossers.

But how do you explain this:
Leeds are sitting comfortably in 4th place (and the teams at # 2 and #3 are
playing each other today)
We are on a run of 10 pts from the last 12
We've just won 3-1 away from home
That win included a (possibly) brilliant finish from our CF (who is the
league's top scorer)..a superbly-worked team goal...and a
cracking first ever LUFC goal from an exciting young Spanish winger.
Yet I cannot overcome a feeling of worry and dissatisfaction!

How can everything seem so great, and yet we seem incapable of stringing
more than 2 passes together?
How can watching us win 3-1 away be such an uncomfortable and (largely)
joyless experience?
Has football suddenly been infected by Trumpism, in that, just as the more
repugnant and offensive Trump becomes, the more he seems to be popular, so
the worse Leeds seem to playe, the better become our results?

I suppose the bottom line, as I've said on here before, is that Monk seems
to have transformed us from a team that sometimes played some really nice
stuff but usually lost, into a team that nearly always plays awfully but
usually somehow manages to win.

And that after 50 years of watching, it looks like I know nothing about how
football works (or politics, or men's hair fashions, for that matter!)

Re: [LU] Brummies 0 Leeds 1

2017-03-04 Thread {broken-address} Richard Walker
I think at the moment he is proving a lot of people wrong but I still think you
have to look at his General game and as you say he still looks like a slow
moving juggernaut at times and also wins very little in the air.
Credit to him though, he looks like his control and awareness have really
improved and nobody can argue with his goals.

Re: [LU] Pedraza

2017-03-04 Thread {broken-address} Richard Walker
Dave said

Talking of play offs, 3 or 4 times the sky people said 'no-one at Leeds was
even thinking of play offs in September " - I felt like phoning them and saying
, "OK, how come Cellino promised a 25% refund (or even 50% if we sold enough)
to ST buyers if we did not make them then ??"

Too right. Cellino knew. He's a genius and totally responsible for where we are
at the moment. Best owner we've ever had.

Agree with your report Dave but the 'steady' team selection is not good enough
especially if Hernandes is having an off day and boy did he. That performance
was just not good enough. At least 4 times he played the ball either into touch
or into space without a white shirt anywhere near. Terrible.

Wood goal - his run was excellent, the ball from Ayling was even better, it
bounced nicely for him , the keeper was in no man's land , he stretched for it
to keep the ball alive and was surprised to see it lob the keeper into the net.
Did he mean it ? Of course he will say he did and nobody will ever be able to
prove not but I don't think he did.
I do think his play at the moment is great and that90 minutes plus his first
half against Wednesday are the best I've seen him play. Long may it continue.

I like the look of Pedraza who has a lazy style that might not be suited to the
Championship.
