Re: [LU] Leedslist Digest, Vol 151, Issue 8

2023-01-10 Thread chris fitzgerald

Thanks John. To try sum up Lido in a few words is impossible, it would take a
long long night drinking beer round a campfire to get through half of them -
Lido would have loved that.

I was fortunate enough to travel extensively with him, climbing mountains,
ending up in ridiculous places because Lid thought somewhere ‘looks lively’ (he
once insisted we left an excellent bar in Panama because he’d seen lots of
people queuing to get into another lively looking place around the corner - it
turned out to be a chemists), playing for the Lards (we did bike to Amsterdam
for one of the competitions, Lid brought a couple of pages from his schoolboy
atlas to help us navigate). He was great to travel with (unless he started
talking about his beloved Leeds bus stops) and our trips were never less than
unpredictable.

Everyone who knew him will miss him. I felt enormously privileged to know him
and I’m pleased I got to see him on Saturday afternoon, just to say thank you
for everything.

A Dave Nattan said earlier, a season-defining game, and the way we came
back in the second half was the real definition of it. And we didn't even
have the most possession overall, I think.

The way it's going, refs will start awarding us penalties.

Following on Leeds Live and he is giving a proper lecture to the
assembled. What he is saying that through the amount of video analysis
they have done on each team they have built a huge database of information
on players, tactics, formations, they know exactly how the opposing team
are going to play. Sending someone along to have a look over a fence isn't
going to add anything useful but if he doesn't his OCD gets the better of
him and he feels bad that he didn't cover all bases :) the dudes a

Re: [LU] Another PR masterstroke!

2018-04-24 Thread Chris Nickson
Sorry, Matt, I have to disagree. Myanmar is a country whose leaders openly
allowed this ethnic cleansing and murder to happen, and blatantly lied
about it to people globally, in spite of all the evidence. By going there,
LUFC act as if they don't care, that human lives count for nothing at all,
and give tacit support for the regime, as if everything is ok. It's not, as
people worldwide have said Maybe there's an untapped football market there;
I don't know. I don't care, frankly, when the people running the country
are encouraging acts like this. What does the club have planned for a
pre-season, a tour of Syria? This isn't just making the club a laughing
stock, it's treating all those who died or have fled with utter contempt.

Re: [LU] Yorkshire help

2015-07-16 Thread Chris Nickson
I'd second Ilkley as there's decent walking, and a nice little place (mind
you, so is Otley, and a little closer still to Leeds). Easy access to the
city. Bit posh overall, but liveable.

Yep, 12 weeks ahead for cheaper (not cheap) train tickets - get in quick
 too.
Settle might be a nice choice, but better might be Ilkley. In Ilkley you
can walk straight onto the moor from town and make it as long or short as
you like, there's a train service to Leeds, and loads of places to
eat/drink. Lots of nice places around us in Knaresborough/Harrogate, but
loathe to recommend hotels/bbs as never stayed in any. Mail me off list
when your plans are firmer and I'll offer any help I can.

Mentioned a while back about trying to make it over from the US in
November to attend a game and now have other ideas and questions.
I am coming with my 13 year old son and we intend staying in Leeds the
night of the game. Then we would like to go somewhere walking the next day
with an overnight stay at a country pub somewhere then back to Leeds the
next day to get back to London. All this will need to be accessible by
public transport as we will not have a car.
  So my questions:

 - Any recommendations of somewhere to go walking in the countryside
relatively close to Leeds (maybe no more than an hour away) where we could
then finish off at somewhere we could spend the night? The Dales look close
but not sure if that would be the best place.
 - Would really like to overnight in a pub in the country somewhere.
Any recommendations for a moderate budget? Would really like something
 traditional.
 - How to get the best (cheapest) tickets to travel from London to
Leeds the morning of the game? This will be November 21st (Rotherham I
 believe).
  Many thanks for any help.

 Nick,

For my money I would go for a train in and out of Leeds to somewhere
like Settle and then check out the local spots there for accommodation
(the Lion is one of our favourites http://thelionsettle.co.uk/rooms/).

Cheapest tickets to game will be from
https://www.virgintrainseastcoast.com/ but tickets for your travel dates
aren't announced yet as you can only book 12 weeks in advance on the
 line from London to Leeds.

Please ask any questions however daft you might think they are theres a
lot of useful knowledge here :-)

[LU] [NON-LU] Thanks.

2015-06-25 Thread Chris Briggs
Thanks to all those that have voted for my poem entry for Nozstock.

You'll all be pleased to know that my entry seems to be in third place with 121
thumbs-up (1st was 170, 2nd was 132) and the voting has now CLOSED (so I won't
be bugging you again).

I got the third most liked poem out of 30 which is brilliant and more than I
hoped for. The poem with the most votes is actually my favourite (and one I
actually voted for, as well as mine obviously).

What happens now is the judges take the top 10 poems and whittle that down to
their own 5 favourites and these 5 then get to take part in the live final at
this years festival.

I should know on 1st July if I have got any further.

Thanks for the support, it's appreciated and I'll let you know how I get on.

Back to the usual closed season best curry house/chippy/boozer/list meet

Fellow listers,

I know it's a pain when people do this and so I apologise in advance.

In my spare time (when I'm not being an idiot or annoying my kids) I write a
bit of poetry type stuff.
Anyway I've entered this competition to perform at Nozstock festival (smallish
music one in Herefordshire).
So f**king what I hear you say.
Well, I had to produce a video to accompany my work and it's posted (along with
29 others) onto YouTube. I have 9 days to get as many 'thumbs up' as possible
in order to progress to the final 10.

I would really appreciate if you could take 1 1/2 minutes of your time to view

[LU] Rosler

2015-05-20 Thread Chris Wright

As much as I liked Neil Redfearn and the football he got the side playing for a
while, there were some issues that needed to be addressed if real progress were
to be made.

1) Conflict with the management team - it takes two to fall out
2) Tactical inflexibility - teams sussed us out - we never seemed to get people
on the back foot for any period of time
3) Divisions in the dressing room - a lot of rumour around this, but the
Italian contingent were largely overlooked - Montenegro scored for fun in the
reserves, others seemed to be worth a shot at least, but it always took
Redfearn one too many games to rotate tired players
4) Can you honestly see Redfearn thriving against the likes of Chelsea,
Arsenal, Man City?

The Uwe Rosler signing - I’m happy with this and the Pearson appointment. Happy
that Pearson took the press conference, happy that he has been given input into
transfers. A coach who will bring an understanding of the European game and
experience of the English game in this league looks like a good idea. and he
was a very successful footballer, known if I recall for his determination.

Cellino - I think he’s a very bright guy who is learning pretty rapidly from a
series of near catastrophic blunders. He seems to be being attacked by the fans
on the basis that he must have been making all the decisions all the time he
was banned. I’m positive that was not the case, both he and Andrew Umbers made
this explicit, before he went to Miami and much of the chaos that ensued bore
all the hallmarks of political infighting while the boss was away. He has
repeatedly stated he wants to build this club on the youngsters and has
extended several contracts already this summer as well as letting go of the
dead wood.

I’m looking forward to seeing who we sign…

Chris

Re: [LU] Transfer Ebargoes

2014-12-15 Thread Chris Briggs
We have signed some shite in previous transfer windows so maybe this is a good
thing ;o)

Sent from my iPhone

 On 15 Dec 2014, at 14:58, Rick Duniec (@ntl) ri...@ntlworld.com wrote:

Blackburn, Leeds and Nottingham Forest handed transfer embargoes
Blackburn, Leeds and Nottingham Forest have been given transfer embargoes for
the rest of the season for breaching Financial Fair Play rules.

The Championship trio have been handed the bans for not meeting the Football
 League's Fair Play Requirement.

Under existing rules, clubs were permitted to lose no more than £3m a season,
with a maximum of £5m of shareholder investment in 2013-14.

The clubs will have the opportunity to have the embargoes lifted in June.

To do so, they will need to prove they have stayed within an operating loss
of no more than £3m, with a maximum of £3m of shareholder investment for the
 2014-15 season.

Blackburn managing director Derek Shaw said: Whilst the ruling will clearly
present some difficulties, we will of course respect the rules of the
 Football League.

  The view from Leeds
BBC Radio Leeds sports reporter Adam Pope

Head coach Neil Redfearn said after Saturday's defeat by Fulham that
the team needs more players with Championship experience and by my reckoning
they should still be able to make four signings. The timing of the embargo
coincides with owner Massimo Cellino submitting his appeal against his
disqualification but with three big games between now and January and the
team just five points above the relegation zone, Redfearn knows he cannot
afford to allow this to interfere with the players' concentration.

A lot of effort and hard work has been done to reduce player costs over the
last two years, but we have wanted to rebuild and challenge in this division
at the same time, and we will continue to do that.

Forest manager Stuart Pearce, speaking prior to confirmation that the club
would be placed under an embargo, said: We are acutely aware of what
direction we will go if we are under an embargo. If you cannot go out and buy
a player in the transfer market that is always a little bit hurtful.

But the flip side is that if you have to be cute in the transfer market and
get Bosmans and free transfers. We feel we have the scouting network that can
 cope with that.

As a football supporter I would not want my club to go bust because of
financial overspending, so if the League are putting plans in place to
safeguard then long-term future of football clubs then fine; I have no
 problem with that at all.

The clubs will still be allowed to sign players in January if they have 24 or
fewer players over the age of 21 who have made at least five starting
appearances for the club in total.

Any of these signings must not cost the club a transfer fee and must cost
 less than £600,000 a year.

  Existing Championship FFP rules
2014-15: Losses of no more than £3m, up to £6m with owner investment

2015-16: Losses of no more than £2m, up to £13m with owner investment

Clubs with 24 or more players fitting the criteria will be allowed to trade
players on a 'one out, one in' basis.

 In addition:

a.. Clubs under an FFP embargo will be permitted to sign a goalkeeper on an
emergency basis, in line with existing regulations.
a.. Clubs under an FFP embargo will not be permitted to pay transfer fees or
 compensation fees for professional players.
a.. Clubs under an FFP embargo will not be permitted to pay a loan fee to
another club, they may only pay the player's wage, or a contribution towards
 it.
a.. For incoming players, clubs can only pay agents' fees as a benefit in

using common sense to resolve an issue. The FL have painted themselves into a

IMO the only football related, football club related , fit and proper to own

Re: [LU] Milanic sacked

2014-10-26 Thread Chris Wright

Headlines today are all about Leeds being plunged into further chaos. It makes
good headlines, but is it really true? Redfearn is familiar to the players,
popular, knows the club inside out. I don't see chaos.

Ferguson changed his head coach frequently at Manchester and in other clubs
where the manager is 'the boss' the changing of a mere coach never attracts the
headlines. The coach is an important cog in the machine - would Revie have been
as successful wthout Les Cocker, Clough without Taylor? On the flipside, we saw
what happened to Leeds when O'Leary brought in Brian Kidd - the players loved
him but the results went out of the window. O'Leary was manager throughout one
of out best and worst periods, his coaching tenure, first under George Graham
and during the first half of his managerial stint was very successul, it was
only when he promoted himself to an executive position that he lost the plot.

Where the owner is The Boss the Head Coach model allows the same flexibility
for the president that managers usually enjoy. The players and business are
looked after by Cellino and Salerno and they do this well - I'm seeing an
improvement in both ability and attitude on the pitch and the business seems to
be on a sounder footing than it was with Ken Bates.. The players appear to be
bonding as a unit and certainly play more entertaining football than any of
Warnock's teams.

So I'm backing Cellino - I don't expect Redfearn to deliver the same stellar
results as he did last time, but he will deliver a more positive attitude on
the pitch - his is not a loser's mentality, I'm afraid Milanovic was too
conservative and paid the price. I'm sorry for the guy, but he's made a lot of
money for six week's work. In football as in many businesses, you live or die
by your decisions and your ability to think on your feet. Let's get Redfearn in
and stick with him.

The bottom line? Well there isn't one. I also think that he was right in

position that by either promoting Redfearn or not promoting him we can lose

We may get lucky-- Redfearn fits we get a good academy boss. Shades of

When I proposed to my wife I told her 'I don't promise you a happy life---

So I'm a bit disappointed by this decision. I'm not sure about Darko

agree, I think Redfearn had some easy games and a bit of luck, while
Darko has the opposite. How can Cellino decide after such little time
whether someone is a good long term prospect, which of course that applies
to Redfearn's 4 games as well. I would really love Redfearn to be
successful, but worry he's not got the calibre or won't be given time. So
UNLESS someone top notch has become free and is interested OR Milanic has

[LU] Hockaway

2014-08-29 Thread Chris Wright

So its bye bye Hock. Inevitable I'm afraid, the only mystery being the sudden
change of mind over the Bank Holiday.

As to why anyone would want to take over, plenty of reasons. Whatever the
naysayers might think, we have a completely different squad profile to last
year's ageing collective. Cellino has gone pretty methodically through the
process of building a squad that should be competitive. It includes the bright
lights from last year, Dawson, Cook and Mowatt, he's bought in a striker most
people are happy with in Sharpe and another that had a decent scoring record in
Italy, he's tried to address the creativity problem by bringing in Sloth and
hopefully Adryan. I don't see much there to complain about.

Hockaday was a different problem. Obsessed with the diamond, he had no plan B
and once the pressure was on, did what most people would have done, turned Can
Win into Must not Lose in his mad mind and reverted to the old guard to
shore up the defence, leaving most of the newcomers on the bench. Quite rightly
sacked.

To the future, I hope Cellino invests in a decent coach, because that is what
is needed. In every respect except for the choice of manager. Cellino has been
correct in his thinking so far. Turned the ship around financially, invested in
a decent, young squad, initiated the buyback of the ground. Trimmed the fat
from the admin staff. We don't need some old school manager to come in and run
the club. We need, as we have done for years now, a coach with progressive
ideas who will come in and stamp his authority on the squad and the game plan.
Whether that coach is Italian or not I don't care, but the only one of the ten
or so that people keep going on about I'd give a second thought to is Simon
Grayson and he hasn't exactly set the world on fire since leaving Leeds.

And lastly, a new set of fans might not go amiss. Positivity, realism and
pragmatism are in short supply right now. People are hollering for O'Leary to
return. Or the racist homophobe Mackay. My worst fear is we'll get the manager
we deserve.

[LU] Re New head Coach Interview

2014-06-20 Thread Chris Wright
I think Cellino has said on many occasions that he is employing a coach not a
manager. Yesterday the press bandied the term 'manager' about until an
exasperated Massimo said Coach, Manager, Super Manager...what's the
difference... thus delivering a headline on a plate.

Rationally, I've had more than enough of the McDermotts and Warnocks of this
world. I'm absolutely with Cellino when he referred scathingly to modern
managers as PR men, bullshitters we've had enough of these tossers surely?
Both McDermott and Warnock were absolutely clueless, Warnock was past his sell
by date and McDermott was just a PR man. He told us what we wanted to hear, no
more, no less.

Its going to be a bumpy ride I'm sure, but Massimo has provided hours of
entertainment so far, most notably at the expense of alleged fraudster David
Haigh. Frankly, even ignoring the allegations of theft surrounding that
resident of a Dubai jail, did anyone seriously think GFK or whatever they
called themselves were doing a good job? Proper Millionaires tend to have
ideas. Ours obviously knows something about football, he kept Cagliari in the
top division in Italy for years, right now I'd happily take that.

If Wackaday doesn't work out, he'll be history before he can blink. That much
about Cellino we know.

Chris.

Do we? I think its true to say that the most successful manager in history -
Alex Ferguson, was in position for the longest time, but Chelsea? Manchester
City? Tottenham Hotspur, Glasgow Celtic, Liverpool. all successful clubs, all
change managers at the drop of a hat. The only reason we think the recipe for
success is longevity is Alec Ferguson and Arsene Wenger, two remarkable
coaches. To say that is the only way to success is like saying the winner of
the lottery is very rich therefore I'll play the lottery every week until I win
it.

The fact is we don't really know what we're in for - we all agree that our
history of owners has been a slow descent into purgatory, starting with the
idiot that bought Thomas Brolin, Bill Fotherby. Since then its been downhill
all the way. Fact is today we're a mid table second division club with no
stadium and massive debts. Cellino has paid off many of those debts, kept us
alive in fact yet the dissenters still moan because he hasn't bought back the
stadium and Thorp Arch. Would you? Seriously? We are losing money at a
frightening rate. The owner has plugged the gaps, steadied the ship and done it
with speed. So far, so good.

I don't know where this will end, but we have a wealthy owner with a successful
record in Italy, one of the leading football countries in the world. It cannot
possibly be worse than the nightmare pairing of Brian McDermott and David
Haigh. If those two had stayed at the helm, relegation would be the least of
our worries. And so many people wanting Gary McAllister back - what exactly is
it about his record as a coach that makes anyone think he'd do a job for us?
Legendary player yes. Manager? Bloody useless.

Manchester United, Liverpool, both in serious debt. You wouldn't call top 6
premier league status successful? And if a club is bankrolled (name me one club
that isn't) then that doesn't count? It's all or nothing then - premier league
champions within two years or you'll view Cellino as a failure? You must have
become accustomed to disappointment!

The former majority owner of Leeds United has revealed the net gain it
 made
through the purchase of the Championship club and its subsequent sale of a
75 per cent shareholding to new owner Massimo Cellino.

The annual report for Gulf Finance House reports a net gain of $6.46m
(£3.8m) from the investment bank's time as majority owner.

Gulf Finance House, the parent company of GFH Capital, retains a 10 per
 cent
stake in Leeds United and said the deal to sell a 75 per cent shareholding
was at a price closer to its book value.

In accounts for the 2012 financial year, Gulf Finance House listed Leeds
United's book value at $88.1m (£52m). Since then, GFH placed a majority
stake in the hands of strategic investors and de-consolidated LUFC
 Holdings
from its accounts so no longer included a value for the total asset.

Last month, GFH confirmed the sale of a 75 per cent stake in Leeds United
had gone through and said the deal would have a positive impact on its
 financial position.

The transaction with Massimo Cellino's Eleonara Sport had completed after
the Italian entrepreneur secured approval from the Football League.

In one of the first business moves since Cellino's takeover, it was
announced yesterday (30 April) that season ticket prices are to be frozen
for the 2014/15 campaign at Elland Road.

2014-04-09 Thread Chris Briggs
As you say getting rid now is the only option, there is no point in letting a
new manager/coach start cold in the close season and potentially miss out on
prospective transfers, etc.
If they are going to have to pay BMD off they might as well do it sooner and
write the costs down to this years balance sheet.

Just seen Brian on SSN telling us how we are going to keep it tight and
 give
nothing away at the start but also start with commitment and belief and
 then
hopefully go a goal up and go on and win.
So that is all right then.

He was asked about a 10point deduction and he said that nothing he has
heard indicates that that will happen So that is all right then

Having said that, just in case Brian is wrong - me and my mates were
discussing which scenario is best for us if admin does happen - relegation
 and
start next season on no points in 3rd division or stay up and start next
 season
 with minus 10 (or more)

Of course on the face of it staying up is best but it does increase the
 chances
of relegation next season and at the very least is likely to make it (yet
another) wasted season as any chance of promotion, even through the play
 offs is unlikely

Relegation this season would mean being in the 3rd Division (again) next
 year
but with a clean slate on and off the pitch. We would be odds on
 favourites
for promotion and could even do a Wolves. This would lead to much better
morale on the terraces and the possibility of us really getting on a roll
 and
storming up the Divisions (or mean another 3 years in the 3rd)

2014-03-18 Thread Chris Briggs
Is it a civil matter in Italy though, here in the UK it can be both. Generally
if you agree that there are 'irregularities' with your return then HMRC are
more likely to consider Civil proceedings (but could make it criminal if they
wanted) but if you deny any irregularities then they will go straight to
seeking criminal prosecutions.

I suppose that the issue for the FL is that if they allow someone with an
unspent criminal conviction to run a club then it sets a precedent, also if
Cellino were to come in with a conviction and things went tits up with debts to
HMRC (for example) would that make the FL complicit as they knew he had form?

Leeds United: Confusion continues after Cellino found guilty of tax evasion

 http://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/sport/leeds-united/latest-whites-news/leeds-united-confusion-continues-after-cellino-found-guilty-of-tax-evasion-1-6504825

Leeds United fans are braced for a prolonged period of uncertainty over the
club’s future after an Italian court found prospective owner Massimo Cellino
 guilty of tax evasion.

The 57-year-old has been waiting for the Football League to approve his
takeover of the Whites since his company Eleonora Sports agreed a £25million
deal to buy 75 per cent of the club’s shares at the beginning of February.

But the Italian’s bid to take control at Elland Road appears to have been
scuppered after he was fined 600,000 euros by Judge Sandra Lepore in a
Cagliari court for failing to pay more than 400,000 euros in import tax on
his luxury yacht, Nelie, which he bought in 2010 and has now been
 confiscated.

Cellino’s lawyer Giovanni Cocco immediately announced the Miami-based
businessman planned to appeal against the court’s ruling.

The Football League has been in protracted negotiations with Cellino’s legal
representatives in England and was understood to be waiting for the outcome
of the court hearing before making a decision on the ownership of Leeds.

A Football League statement read: “The Football League has noted the outcome
of the court hearing earlier (on Tuesday) regarding Massimo Cellino.

“We are engaged in an ongoing dialogue with his legal representatives in
this country and cannot comment further at this time.”

The governing body’s ‘owners and directors’ test, prevents anyone with an
unspent conviction for dishonesty offences from being a director, a 30 per
cent owner, or from exercising control over one of its clubs.

Leeds supporters can now expect further delays and more legal wrangling
between Cellino and the League as the uncertainty over their club continues.

Leeds managing director David Haigh insisted last week that there is “no
chance” of the club going into administration, as it is Cellino’s money
which has been keeping the club going.

“This verdict is absolutely unjust and we will appeal,” Cocco told the
Guardian after the brief court session.

Cellino, currently the owner of Cagliari, denies that he was seeking to
evade import duty on the yacht.

He told the court in December that he had planned to have it sailed to the
United States, where he had bought it, but was unable to due to damage to
 the vessel.

Cellino, who exchanged contracts with Leeds’ current owners Gulf finance
House Capital to buy 75 per cent of the club’s shares on February 1, has
already provided considerable funds to cover running costs at Elland Road.

He has covered the club’s staff wage bill for the last two months and has
paid off a loan from shirt sponsors Enterprise Insurance to stave off a
 winding-up order.

Since the takeover deal with GFH Capital was agreed, Leeds have also signed
Stoke goalkeeper Jack Butland and Sunderland striker Connor Wickham on loan
until the end of the season.

Cellino’s lawyers started talks with the Football League at the end of
January and the Cagliari owner met with the governing body on February 12.

Bahrain-based investment firm GFH Capital has been searching for major
investment since buying the club from Ken Bates in December 2012.

A rival consortium to Cellino, headed by Andrew Flowers, chief executive of
club sponsor Enterprise Insurance, withdrew from the race to take control at
Elland Road at the end of January, but a third group, Together Leeds,
fronted by former Manchester United international managing director Mike
Farnan, has been waiting in the background.

GFH Capital has so far refused to enter into serious talks with Together
Leeds after rejecting a “derisory” offer from them in November.

Cellino has twice been previously convicted of fraud and is currently
contesting a separate charge of embezzlement.

He received a 15-month suspended prison sentence in 2001 after being
convicted of false accounting at Cagliari.

A previous conviction in 1996 for fraudulently claiming EU agricultural
 subsidies was

Well, using the following assumptions to first account for attrition;

1) A percentage will have caught the lurgy since the weekend
2) Some will miss out due to the missus 'going to bingo/ann summers party'
3) We are shite
4) That the chances of winning are worse than those for Audrey Hepburn painting
my soffits whilst Ted Moult holds the ladder.
5) Holby City is on the telly
6) It's a work/school night
7) We are shite

After all those factors were taken into consideration are were run through my

[LU] Help me raise money for Shelter

2014-02-28 Thread Chris Briggs
Right lads (and BOTLs)

On Tuesday (4th) and for the second year running I am taking part in Vertical
rush to raise money for Shelter.

For those that don't know Vertical Rush is a race to the top of Tower 42
(Natwest tower) in London. It's 42 floors or 920 steps bottom to top of leg
aching agony, running up this many stairs is unlike anything else, the air
quality in the stairwell is poor, 1000 other people have breathed, sweated and
farted in it.
In a nutshell it's f**king hard work.

Last year the List helped me raise over £350 towards a total of £71k that my
employers donated to Shelter.

Any sponsorship earned goes to a very good cause, every pound raised is a pound
that can help to keep a roof over someone's head.

I can be sponsored via;

https://www.justgiving.com/chris-briggs2

Or via Text just text

FUZZ88 £1 to 70070 (or £1, £2, £3, £4, £5, £10)

A big thanks to those that either are going to or have already sponsored me.

I was never a fan, but like a lot of 80's music that many people dismissed at
the time it does sound good in retrospect.
Well, except for the first album where the production is shocking and would
benefit from tweaking/polishing.

[LU] Touting for sponsors for Shelter's Vertical Rush

2014-02-05 Thread Chris Briggs
Fellow Listers,

I hope you don't mind the blatant attempt to tout for sponsors.

For the second year running my employer (Fujitsu) is putting together a team to
take part in Shelter's Vertical rush. Last year as a team we managed to raise
in excess of £71k from this event alone and a total of about £300k spread
across the year from other challenges.

Last year I managed a time of 10 minutes, which considering I had done no
training due to suffering a 'brain fart' wasn't bad. I am hoping for around the
7:30 mark.

Any sponsorship earned goes to a very good cause, every pound raised is a pound
that can help to keep a roof over someone's head.

I can be sponsored via;

https://www.justgiving.com/chris-briggs2

Or via Text just text

FUZZ88 £5 to 70070 (or £1, £2, £3, £4, £5, £10)

Cheers

Chris

Re: [LU] LU: the ongoing fiasco

2014-02-04 Thread Chris Briggs
Looking at this from a different perspective if Cellino isn't successful in
taking over I expect a massive amount of shit to hit various fans in the shape
of legal challenges to Leeds, GFH and the football League.

Firstly, GFH issued a public statement confirming sale of a 75% stake of Leeds.
Because of this I would expect Cellino to issue a challenge to GFH based on
their discussions with Farnan and Sports Capital for even contemplating another
offer having reached an agreement to sell, especially as Haigh can hardly be
considered a neutral.
Any whiff of a challenge to the integrity of an investment bank is going to
cast a cloud over its ability to deliver a service.

Should Cellino fall the FL test, I think he might challenge the decision based
upon Shaun Harvey's potential for impartiality due to his recent involvement in
Leeds

I'm not pretending to know the answers or the strength of the legal arguments
(a weak legal argument has never stopped anyone kicking up a shitstorm), I just
thought I would explore the possibility of what might turn this into a
protracted circus.

FURIOUS Massimo Cellino has warned Leeds owners not to back out of their
deal to sell the club to him.
A bid matching the Italians has been put together by a rival consortium and
 will be submitted today.
Yet speaking to SunSport from his home in Miami, the eccentric Italian said
he had already paid for 75 per cent of the club and his deal was done.
Cellino, who owns Cagliari in Serie A, fumed: The money was paid on Friday.
Me and the Bahraini (Leeds chairman Salah Nooruddin), were serious people.
Between us there is no problem. But in the middle there is a problem, there
is a lot of s*** going on.
The Bahraini trusts me and I trust him. He could have done other deals but
chose me because I showed I could run a club. Cellino is livid that talks
could be about to start with another bidder and lays the blame at the door
 of managing director David Haigh.
He added: Im in Miami so I dont know exactly whats going on now. But I know
there was a deal. The only thing is David with this tricky behaviour. There
is a lot of s*** going on.
The rival bid features Irishman Mike Farnan and Andrew Flowers, MD of Leeds
 shirt sponsors Enterprise Insurance.
Video:Brian McDermott reveals all on 'non-sacking'FootballLEEDS boss
explains the farce that surrounded his departure and return
But Cellino says his only hurdle now is the Football Leagues fit and proper
person test, which he expects to pass even though he has TWICE been
convicted for fraud. He said: Ive had 22 years as an owner in Italy where
regulations are much stricter than in England. I dont see why this should
 be an issue.
The 57-year-olds lawyer told McDermott he was sacked on Friday, with
Cellino later explaining the manager had done everything to get fired.
Yet a day later he wanted McDermott back. The manager, 52, avoided
Saturdays 5-1 win over Huddersfield before returning to training yesterday.
Cellino admits his relationship with McDermott and the fans hasnt got off
 to a good start.
But he added: I already love this club and want to do something right for
it. I want to get it back where it belongs, in the Premier League.
Despite Cellino claiming he has no problems with McDermott, the former
Reading chief was unsure if he would still be in charge for Saturdays trip
 to Yeovil.
He said: I cant answer that. No manager can guarantee anything in this day
 and age.
I spoke to a lot of important people in the game who said You shouldnt go
 back.
But there was no way I could walk away from Leeds.

2014-02-04 Thread Chris Wright
I don't see any inconsistency - in business, be it football or any other type,
takeovers happen all the time. As an employee of the football club, McDermott
took a huge risk in publicly backing one prospective buyer - once that buyer
failed, he would have been first out of the door in any business. It's about
cause and effect, not blame.

The point I made later was that somebody must have given Cellino the impression
he was 'in control'. That person must have been a member of the board. Had that
not happened, this debacle would have played out later in a more measured way.

So, no change of mind. McDermott has been naive in backing the wrong horse (he
backed them before it was known that their backers had walked away) and people
being what they are, incoming owners wanting their own men at the wheel, that
was enough. Got nothing to do with professionalism, it's just the way the world
turns.

I do have one more observation about McDermott - team selections during the bad
run - where were Murphy and Mowett? Injured? I do think he lost the plot during
that run, 6-0 to Sheffield? Perfectly understandable and I am a supporter, but
jobs have been lost for less.

Subject: [LU] LU: the ongoing fiasco

Sorry about the duplicate post earlier - I'm very sceptical about all
 parties in
 this fiasco.

We're all up in arms about the Italians, but we know no facts, only spin
 that is
in the main being shaped by a future tory politician.

Some questions need answering : Who gave the Italians the impression they
were in charge on Friday? That had to be someone in the current
 management team?

What exactly is the role of this solicitor that was thrown out of the
 stadium
this afternoon? He's not just the Cellino family solicitor, on the
 contrary, he's
a player in his own right - has been involved in all manner of football
 related
issues..what made him think he had the authority to sack McDermott? Is
there any truth in the suggestion that the existing owners wanted rid of
 McDermott?

Is Festa really being lined up as manager? even Cellino has said that he
doesn't have the experience to manage a team - given that there were
allegedly 4 Italian players lined up to sign, it is credible that they
 would need a
 familiar face around the place.

Is David Haigh even remotely competent? He brokered the deal with Ken
Bates, or so he claims, should he not have known about the £4m payment
 due this month?

Do we really want ot go down the road of having two consortia, neither of
whom had enough money to match Cellino's offer, join together to buy the
club? What happens once they do? Where is the war chest for transfers?
How do they propose to sort out the cash flow issue? Where are the funds
 to
cover the cash flow until it is sorted out? How do they propose to pay
 back
the loans made to the club by Sports Capital - that looks like an absolute
 minefield...?

My life experience tells me never to trust a politician. Especially a
 Tory. My
worst fear is we're being spun by a clown in the grip of a panic. One
 credible
scenario is that Cellino was told to go ahead and assume control, and
 panic
set in when it became clear that the crowd (source of income) and the
sponsors (source of income) were having none of it. If I'm right, it
 won't end
well. God forbid we get a management team of ten or more people!

On the plus side - Saturday was magnificent with several players coming of
age. Ross McCormack has exhibited leadership qualities I didn't think he
 had
and Brian is back. Let's hope the players can keep the impetus going,
 we're
not all that far short of the play offs.

Not sure I like this idea floating around of Sport Capital and Farnan's group
getting together and sticking in a bid.
Sounds like a massive clash of egos and pissing contests to me. I can't see it
being successful, they just seem to want to do it so that Cellino can't have
it, very childish and likely to end in tears, most probably ours.

In terms of the takeover it is more like trying to choose your favourite
sexually transmitted disease, it's going to be painful, elements may need
lancing and there's going to be a lot of unpleasant discharge ;o)

A lot of manipulation and spin going on.

On the plus side, it is said that he stopped Ross going to Cardiff. I am sure
Haigh would have accepted the offer.
