MARCHING ON TOGETHER

[LU] [NON-LU] Thanks.

2015-06-25 Thread Chris Briggs
Thanks to all those that have voted for my poem entry for Nozstock.

You'll all be pleased to know that my entry seems to be in third place with 121
thumbs-up (1st was 170, 2nd was 132) and the voting has now CLOSED (so I won't
be bugging you again).

I got the third most liked poem out of 30 which is brilliant and more than I
hoped for. The poem with the most votes is actually my favourite (and one I
actually voted for, as well as mine obviously).

What happens now is the judges take the top 10 poems and whittle that down to
their own 5 favourites and these 5 then get to take part in the live final at
this years festival.

I should know on 1st July if I have got any further.

Thanks for the support, it's appreciated and I'll let you know how I get on.

Back to the usual closed season best curry house/chippy/boozer/list meet
nonsense.

Cheers Lads (and BOTLs)

[LU] [NON-LU] Poetry Begging bollocks

2015-06-25 Thread Chris Briggs
Fellow listers,

A couple of weeks ago I posted a link to a video on YouTube of me 'performing'
a poem about Greggs outside outside Greggs.

Well, today is the closing date for voting and I've slipped down the rankings
to number 5 from 1.

I would really appreciate if you could take a minute of your time to give the
video the 'thumbs-up' on YouTube.

Thanks to everyone for all of the 'thumbs up', I still have 10 days to collect
them before the closing date, so if you haven't liked it there is still time :oD

I suspect that the 'thumbs down' have come from Greggs IT manager, an IT
support worker and Tyrone Cockwomble (the person who put it in the suggestion
box).

Thanks again to all those that have supported what is actually a daft cause.

Thanks. I also have some other stuff on that Facebook thingy -

This one was one I didn't swear in, then again I couldn't given that I filmed
it in a hurry on Worcester High St in between people walking past.

I wrote one about Sepp Blatter 3 days before he resigned, I like to take credit
for his resignation.

[LU] [NON-LU] Blatant publicising

2015-06-12 Thread Chris Briggs
Fellow listers,

I know it's a pain when people do this and so I apologise in advance.

In my spare time (when I'm not being an idiot or annoying my kids) I write a
bit of poetry type stuff.
Anyway I've entered this competition to perform at Nozstock festival (smallish
music one in Herefordshire).
"So f**king what" I hear you say.
Well, I had to produce a video to accompany my work and it's posted (along with
29 others) onto YouTube. I have 9 days to get as many 'thumbs up' as possible
in order to progress to the final 10.

I would really appreciate if you could take 1 1/2 minutes of your time to view
and like the video.
If you're interested the subject matter is 'free wifi at Greggs'.

Re: [LU] Happy Christmas and All The Best for The New Year

2014-12-25 Thread Chris Briggs
Merry Christmas to all listers near and far.
Sorry it's a bit long and I hope it formats ok.

Spirit Of Christmas
---

Christmas fun, Christmas cheer,
It comes around every year.
Presents, tree and food to buy,
It's more expensive, the questions why?
Smellies for mum, a tie for dad,
What about the kids? Let's not go mad.
Christmas morning kids awake
Bleary eyed parents their beds vacate
Christmas wrapping torn to shreds
Whilst sensible folk are still in bed
Who bought that for whom and why?
You often hear a parent cry?
It takes ‘D’ type batteries. How Many?
I’ll have a look, I doubt we have any
Why give presents, I’ll never know
Without the batteries to make 'em go
Quick sit down, nothing can go wrong
False sense of security, bloody Buble's on
Singing carols with that treacly voice of his
Whilst the missus drinks Buck's Fizz
From sofa to kitchen is an easy step
Best get on with the dinners prep
Turkey, pudding, the foods all bought,
The vegetables weren't an afterthought.
Pigs in blankets, stuffing too,
Roast potatoes, we love you.
A little voice is heard to shout
"Don't forget about the sprouts"
Those smelly evil balls so green
Like small cabbages, just obscene
It's nearly done, almost time,
The kitchen timer begins to chime,
The turkeys out, is it done?
It's all stressful, not much fun.
The family's hungry, they won't starve
Sharpen the knife, it's time to carve.
The knife cuts in, the juice is clear,
Wash hands, sit down, dinner’s near.
The food's all plated, the table’s laid,
Something's missing, no gravy made.
Gravy boats added to the orgy of food
Everyone's in the Christmas mood
You start if off by pulling crackers
Eye up your opponent 'coz technique matters
You need to win your prides at stake
Dear old granny's feelings you forsake
A quick bang and that moment of dread
As a plastic toy whizzes past your head
Did you win? Open your eyes take a look
You've got the big part alpha male. Thank fuck.
You put on the hat, your crowning glory
Look for the joke, bound to be corny
Rumblings and gurgles you hear from below
Best help yourself to the food on show
Have a bit of this and a lot of that
Join a gym in new year to burn off the fat
You clean the plate, another round beckons
You eye the table for the pick of seconds
You start to work up one of your meat sweats
Something your arse in the morning may regret
The last forkful goes in with some force
The table is cleared for the pudding course
Christmas pud, custard, chantilly cream
Brandy butter, a high cholesterol dream.
The lights dimmed for the main event
Mums given the brandy to circumvent
Last years eye singeing commotion
Following the massive explosion
Where dad had left a trail of liqueur
From kitchen to table via the floor
The puddings eaten, bellies past full
More to come from the feast bountiful
Even more food still to get through
Cheese and biscuits, petit fours too
Stuff our faces, we need to vomit
Now the Stilton, we don't learn from it
Pass the port, go on I'll have a sherry
Indigestion, anyone got a Rennie.
Lie on the sofa, fart and pass out
This is what Christmas is all about.

2014-12-01 Thread Chris Briggs
The problem is that this is a pissing contest, it isn't about compromise and
using common sense to resolve an issue. The FL have painted themselves into a
corner, the only way they can get out of it is to look like incompetent dicks
in the short term, they are doing this by following their own rules without
deviation (even though they would be able to justify it).

As Maslow said "if the only tool you have is a hammer, to treat everything as
if it were a nail"

For those on t'witter it's worth casting an eye over a series of charts/photos
that @SwissRamble has put together comparing the finances and balance sheets of
each club, makes interesting lunchtime reading.

Re: [LU] Watford

2014-04-09 Thread Chris Briggs
As you say getting rid now is the only option, there is no point in letting a
new manager/coach start cold in the close season and potentially miss out on
prospective transfers, etc.
If they are going to have to pay BMD off they might as well do it sooner and
write the costs down to this years balance sheet.

2014-03-24 Thread Chris Briggs
He's got two weeks to appeal, can't see the point in him doing that though as
the FL are hardly likely to change their minds.
I guess he'll want his money back now (which is fair enough).

Not sure who GFH will turn to now, I wouldn't trust them to sit the right way
round on the toilet never mind getting a satisfactory outcome from this.

Re: [LU] Cellino Found Guilty

2014-03-18 Thread Chris Briggs
Is it a civil matter in Italy though, here in the UK it can be both. Generally
if you agree that there are 'irregularities' with your return then HMRC are
more likely to consider Civil proceedings (but could make it criminal if they
wanted) but if you deny any irregularities then they will go straight to
seeking criminal prosecutions.

I suppose that the issue for the FL is that if they allow someone with an
unspent criminal conviction to run a club then it sets a precedent, also if
Cellino were to come in with a conviction and things went tits up with debts to
HMRC (for example) would that make the FL complicit as they knew he had form?

Well, using the following assumptions to first account for attrition;

1) A percentage will have caught the lurgy since the weekend
2) Some will miss out due to the missus 'going to bingo/ann summers party'
3) We are shite
4) That the chances of winning are worse than those for Audrey Hepburn painting
my soffits whilst Ted Moult holds the ladder.
5) Holby City is on the telly
6) It's a work/school night
7) We are shite

After all those factors were taken into consideration are were run through my
abacus by the enslaved goblin the result came out at 14,729, which is more than
they deserve by a long way.

Cheers

[LU] Help me raise money for Shelter

2014-02-28 Thread Chris Briggs
Right lads (and BOTLs)

On Tuesday (4th) and for the second year running I am taking part in Vertical
rush to raise money for Shelter.

For those that don't know Vertical Rush is a race to the top of Tower 42
(Natwest tower) in London. It's 42 floors or 920 steps bottom to top of leg
aching agony, running up this many stairs is unlike anything else, the air
quality in the stairwell is poor, 1000 other people have breathed, sweated and
farted in it.
In a nutshell it's f**king hard work.

Last year the List helped me raise over £350 towards a total of £71k that my
employers donated to Shelter.

Any sponsorship earned goes to a very good cause, every pound raised is a pound
that can help to keep a roof over someone's head.

I can be sponsored via;

https://www.justgiving.com/chris-briggs2

Or via Text just text

FUZZ88 £1 to 70070 (or £1, £2, £3, £4, £5, £10)

A big thanks to those that either are going to or have already sponsored me.

MOT

Chris

Mozza and Cliff Richard will be a proper barrel of laughs in the US, I can't
imagine 2 artists that could possibly be so diametrically opposed.

I was never a fan, but like a lot of 80's music that many people dismissed at
the time it does sound good in retrospect.
Well, except for the first album where the production is shocking and would
benefit from tweaking/polishing.

I can't see that being a long lasting arrangement, I fully expect the other 25%
to be sold to Cellino and then Haigh will be on his way. For someone who
apparently has political ambitions he is leaving it a bit late to be sorting
himself a seat out for next year, then again maybe he should stick to something
he does well, er, answers on a postcard please.

[LU] Touting for sponsors for Shelter's Vertical Rush

2014-02-05 Thread Chris Briggs
Fellow Listers,

I hope you don't mind the blatant attempt to tout for sponsors.

For the second year running my employer (Fujitsu) is putting together a team to
take part in Shelter's Vertical rush. Last year as a team we managed to raise
in excess of £71k from this event alone and a total of about £300k spread
across the year from other challenges.

Last year I managed a time of 10 minutes, which considering I had done no
training due to suffering a 'brain fart' wasn't bad. I am hoping for around the
7:30 mark.

Any sponsorship earned goes to a very good cause, every pound raised is a pound
that can help to keep a roof over someone's head.

I can be sponsored via;

https://www.justgiving.com/chris-briggs2

Or via Text just text

Re: [LU] LU: the ongoing fiasco

2014-02-04 Thread Chris Briggs
Looking at this from a different perspective if Cellino isn't successful in
taking over I expect a massive amount of shit to hit various fans in the shape
of legal challenges to Leeds, GFH and the football League.

Firstly, GFH issued a public statement confirming sale of a 75% stake of Leeds.
Because of this I would expect Cellino to issue a challenge to GFH based on
their discussions with Farnan and Sports Capital for even contemplating another
offer having reached an agreement to sell, especially as Haigh can hardly be
considered a neutral.
Any whiff of a challenge to the integrity of an investment bank is going to
cast a cloud over its ability to deliver a service.

Should Cellino fall the FL test, I think he might challenge the decision based
upon Shaun Harvey's potential for impartiality due to his recent involvement in
Leeds

I'm not pretending to know the answers or the strength of the legal arguments
(a weak legal argument has never stopped anyone kicking up a shitstorm), I just
thought I would explore the possibility of what might turn this into a
protracted circus.

You're right nothing is won in February, the problem is we didn't win anything
in January, the rate we have been picking up points (10 out of 36 or
thereabouts) means that we are unlikely to win anything in May,
Reading on the other hand collected 19 points over the same period making the
chances of us taking their place in 6th unlikely.

I think huddersfield would have turned us over on Saturday had Friday just been
another day at the office.

I'm not in favour of sacking McD but I can see these perverse logic in it.

As I said from a PR perspective, however it turns out, he will come out
smelling of roses.

2014-02-03 Thread Chris Briggs
BMcD has come out of this very well, he had been in a long run of piss poor
performances/results, had Friday's events not happened he would have been due
the sack on Saturday had they lost (not that GFH would have had the bollocks to
sack him, nor the cash to pay him off).
If the take over happens this week and Brian is out on his arse nobody will
remember the slide down the league but the fiasco on Friday.

I'm starting to believe that we would be better off without him, he has come
across as naive and a bit clueless since last week.

Not sure I could trust him to find his own arsehole with map and both hands.

Whilst on gadgets, I have just got a Bibo, it does filtered boiling and chilled

Eric,

It wasn't the prize money from Wimbledon (£1.6M) he gave away, it was his
winnings from Queens (£73k) 3 weeks ago, which whilst not exactly miserly only
represents about 2% of his earnings to date so far this year.

Re: [LU] NON LU: Spain Brazil

2013-07-02 Thread Chris Briggs
How any of us has the audacity to deride the style of play that has brought
success to Barcelona / Spain, etc is laughable whilst we pay to watch woeful
professionals struggle to string together a handful of passes.
Whilst at times it can appear boring, how many of us have complained about a
players inability to play an incisive pass or merely keep procession, as Rich W
would say these are the basics and something that our former 'best' (according
to records) player so clearly lacked.

I would willingly sell my soul to the devil to be able to see a player that
possesses 10% of Iniesta's ability and vision don a Leeds shirt, anyone who
thinks otherwise is more than welcome to wallow in mediocrity.

2013-05-11 Thread Chris Briggs

production.

My Uni attending son on the other hand thinks they are ace.
