Re: [LU] FA Cup - Hammers away

2021-12-06 Thread Tim Whelan via Leedslist

I make that the fifth successive FA Cup game in London or further south,
and of course the other four have all been defeats. Our last win in the
FA Cup was over Cambridge in the 3rd round in 2018, which was of course
followed by embarrassment at Sutton in the next round. It's about time
we won another tie.

Not sure if you're joking but Crawley away has got banana skin written all
over it. Having said that I have to recognise that the new Leeds don't do
banana skins, at the same time as not caring about losing in a cup
competition anyway.

Personally I'm looking forward to playing Swindon and later on Birmingham
in the semis :)

Now that we’re in the same division as Manchester again, I’m just wondering if
there’s much to dislike about them anymore.

None of their players raise my hackles, Marcus Rashford is positively a
National Treasure, and the Baby-Faced Assassin is pretty likeable too.

Maybe I need some motivation.

Here’s a Pathé Newsreel from 1951:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7D0XLwBgf3k

It’s not the 4-0 scoreline, we’re Second Division to their First after all ***,
no, it’s the Pathé commentary, it thoroughly winds me up.

Is it too late to write to them and complain?

*** Although I would expect Richard Walker to come down heavily on the
goalkeeping, own goal for the first, handling error maybe for the second.

The poor defending from corners seems to be an LU tradition, and I can’t tell
if John Charles is involved. If he is, I don’t recognise him, and I’d like to
think if he was playing, he’d help keep the score down.

John

Defund Pathe!

Couldn't spot King John, but the standard of football was dreadful and we
didn't score, so I'm guessing he wasn't

John

The FA Cup It's a knockout was fantastic! I still remember the excitement of FA
Cup day, coverage of the players arriving on team buses, fans streaming to
Wembley etc. Used to start watching at 11am or so.

Re: [LU] FA Cup

2019-01-06 Thread Nicholas Armit via Leedslist
I don't think it is an irrelevance. Counting it as an irrelevance has not
helped us in the past so why should it now? And for me the issue is now losing
three on the trot and the potential harm that may do for our confidence. And
another worry is that the players that came in today were really not up to it.
That game could easily have been 6-2.
Yes of course Friday is more important but they are not games in a vacuum.

talk from themselves, but from my view we still played much better than any
away game I can remember for at least 5 seasons before this one.  Major
disappointment is Baker, he might have had his best game, but as a ball playing
midfielder he struggles to complete the majority of passes and many that he
does do cause problems for the receiver.

whatever happened to those 2 young lads that played in the FA Cup last year ? I
could have sworn the centre back had never played in that position before. He

2015-01-26 Thread Steve Gillen
The only thing I am pleased with Bradford winning
is a guy I know at work hade a 40p treble running
on 3 outside chances (one of which was Bradford of
course) - they all won and he raked in £720 for
his 40p stake - now for him I am pleased - as for
Bradford themselves - I couldn't care less..

I know it's popular to dislike the teams local to your own (usually the small

For some reason I told a number of people recently that we are the ONLY team to
have lost in every round of the FA Cup proper

I know Hereford beat us in the first round in 2008
then Histon in 2nd round the following year
Rochdale in 3rd round yesterday
we have lost any number of times in 4th, 5th and 6th rounds and of course have
lost in the semi final to scum (77 among others) and have lost 2 finals
(Scousers and Sunderland)
so it looks as if we have lost in every round

I cannot think of anyone else who has done this - lets face it not many FA cup
winners have spent time in the 3rd division or lower so there will not be many
teams who have lost in the first 2 rounds - but maybe someone like Villa,
Wolves, Pompey or Cardiff have both won the FA Cup and had dreadful times in
the
league dropping through the Divisions

I have tried to put the question into google etc in various forms but cannot
find an answer - anyone out there know if we are the only team to have done it?
(not that it is something to be proud of)

Of course the 'opposite' is also true - we have won in every round too - has
anyone else managed this ?

According to someone on twitter:

@RyanKeaney: @jimmoran Nope. At least 38 teams have lost in every round (Round
1 to Final). Leeds are one of them.

[LU] FA Cup info - any stattos out there ?

2014-01-05 Thread nat...@sky.com
For some reason I told a number of people recently that we are the ONLY team to
have lost in every round of the FA Cup proper

I know Hereford beat us in the first round in 2008
then Histon in 2nd round the following year
Rochdale in 3rd round yesterday
we have lost any number of times in 4th, 5th and 6th rounds and of course have
lost in the semi final to scum (77 among others) and have lost 2 finals
(Scousers and Sunderland)
so it looks as if we have lost in every round

I cannot think of anyone else who has done this - lets face it not many FA cup
winners have spent time in the 3rd division or lower so there will not be many
teams who have lost in the first 2 rounds - but maybe someone like Villa,
Wolves, Pompey or Cardiff have both won the FA Cup and had dreadful times in
the league dropping through the Divisions

I have tried to put the question into google etc in various forms but cannot
find an answer - anyone out there know if we are the only team to have done it?
(not that it is something to be proud of)

Of course  the 'opposite' is also true - we have won in every round too - has

What is the financial upside for us of getting drawn away to a(nother?) big
club? Do we get some share of gate receipts or TV money, or do we need to bring
them back to Elland Road for a replay to make any dosh?

Cheers!

Sean

We're not gonna win the thing anytime soon mate. Might as well have a
decent weekend in London, few beers, lots of singing etc.

Can we add Jimmy Floyd Piggybaink to the 'if only' list v Arsenal.

Don't see why we couldn't get a result against their kids.

Our last 3 draws in the FA Cup have been:

Red Drivel (a)
Tottenham (a)
Arsenal (a)

All great high profile money spinning games, but if like me you dream of
getting to Wembley every year, Plymouth or someone at home every now and then
would be nice.
