Re: [LU] So.............where do we go from here?
Re the sacking..and how could they do it: I actually bumped into Wilko many years ago when he was on 'is 'ols in Portugal. I asked him about something about the future, and he prefaced his response with "if I'm still in the job." This was after we had won the league. I scoffed and said something to the effect that if any manager was safe in his job it would be him, but he said you're never safe in this job. Within 6 months he had been sacked. [LU] So.............where do we go from here?
Looking ahead, what does it all mean? Bielsa going could be bad news for.. Harrison James Roberts Klich ...and good news for Gelhardt Meslier (he might actually have a defence in front of him) Drameh Rodrigo (he may not have to run around so much which he obviously hates) It is looking more and more like this Marsch guy is coming in. Apparently, he's a high-press, possession-based coach, so that might work. If I were him, I'd pick the following lineup v Leicester: Ayling, Koch (it's about time he started playing like the international CB he is supposed to be), Strujk, Firpo: Forshaw & Dallas as a double pivot defensive midfield: Rodrigo at 10, Raphinha, Gelhardt & James or Harrison. And Bielsa? What next for him? Could Scum go for him? It would be a massive gamble on their part, but it could be argued that his system could work if he had better players. I can't see Ronaldo, pogba & fernandes buying into his running demands though. No KP until March is a serious problem. We have few enough class players that know their game to afford one of them to be out for a long time. Worried. [LU] So relaxed!
It is so great anticipating the season in such a relaxed frame of mind. Last year, we all knew we absolutely HAD to finish in the top 2. Anything else, after the disaster of the season before, would surely have led to a total implosion; there would have been no 3rd chance. That made EVERY game crucial. Every dropped point and last-minute equaliser conceded was a potential disaster (if only we could have known we would end up winning the thing by 10 pts...but we didn't!) This season, we don't have to finish in the top 2 but the top 18which means that, at least for the first few weeks, no particular game is going to be particularly crucial. Doesnt seem real that it was 2005 when he took over. I remember Mikey Benjamin in particular being a Bates fan. Also, how is it that its what, 6 years since he left? Time flies when you're not having fun. The game today is a real opportunity for us to open up a nice little gap. Boro and Brentford have dodgy fixtures. Sent from my Samsung Galaxy smartphone. Definitely. Thought Tonge made a difference and goal was just a great bit of individualism fro Macca our best STRIKER. Overall I was disappointed with our lack of creativity - Murphy continued to disappoint - came into later on but he looks like a poor man's Tonge to me. Re: [LU] LU So, did we get better in the second half?
I know I'm not the first to say it but I think we can afford to give Murphy more (even a lot more) time. He was surely bought as much for his potential. Anyway, in the meantime we've still got Tonge ;) Equally I think it's too early to worry about McCormack in midfield. I remember we hated Barcelona for playing Lineker on the wing (was that after wonder coach Verry Terribles had gone?) and yet it really did make him a much much better player. Fingers crossed on this one then ;) Richard - you must have left straight for the airport after your St. Emilion mail. You missed a wild night in La Reole. The girls who went on to the night club came limping home on three wheels after a U turn in the station car park went horribly wrong (literally - the fourth wheel was ripped off the axle and drive shaft and came home dragging along attached to what was left of the wishbone - high kerbs eh...) Re: [LU] so
Whoever it was who compared Becchio's record to those of Torres Rooney just massively undermined your argument! Both of them were once good but are now crap. In fact, I call Rooney the Becchio of the Premier League so awful is his ability to hold onto the ball when it's played to him these days. On 25 November 2012 12:01, Richard Walker richleed...@yahoo.co.uk wrote: Yes I was positive and that was because there was so much positive play from our team, but that doesn't change the fact that Becchio is massively holding the team back. The frustration was there to see through Diouf's body language as Becchio failed to keep possession or flick it on to a white shirt rather than open space. Then we had the stray pass to a Palace player when there's white shirts all around him, and the groan and anger in the stands. At this level I do think there is room for a limited centre forward , with limited ability who gets in where it hurts and scores a shed load of goals. Unfortunately, the limitation can't drop to Becchio's level who I maintain is the most limited football I have had the misfortune to watch. A true striker in that role would have got a hat-full yesterday, crosses were flying in left, right and centre. Lee Chapman would have had a ball, however Becchio was missing on most occasions and only got his goal by being presented on a plate with a goal from 2 yards. I have never liked Rooney - in either domestic or national colours. I have never rated Torres, I think he's a glory boy. But, they are both better than Becchio. Is there a clause in Luciano's contract to say that if he's fit he must get a selection? It's the only reason I can think why he is still getting a place in the team. Perhaps it's because everyone else is unfit/injured/suspended and Big Nige has no choice ? [LU] So, so hard to care any more...
We really are in big trouble! Usually we limp into Christmas with enough points to be able to withstand a poor second half of the season - that is the experience of the last 5 or 7 seasons anyhow; I cannot remember any further back with any great clarity. This season, the rot has started early! ALARM BELLS SHOULD BE RINGING! The upshot, I believe we are in real relegation trouble. Where is next win going to come from? Who cares about the League Cup! I certainly don't! No one is scared or us any more, especially at Elland Road. Leeds/Watford 1-6 FFS! I've been supporting Leeds for over 35 years now and have never been at a lower ebb and that includes the many dark years of the 80s in this division. Soccer has changed and not for the better. I look at the Premier League almost in the same way that my daughter looks at WWE. Pure entertainment. Not do or die for, any more. Just another media channel to be consumed but not to be cared about in any meaningful way. They don't care; why should we? I will always be a Leeds United fan but I simply do not care any more what happens to us/them. Why should I allow my mood be dictated by an organisation that absolutely no interest in its fan other than as income streams. I will not go and see them again until Bates is gone and true light shines on the club again. Saying that, are any white knights riding to our supposed rescue going to be any better than what is already in situ? Look at all the other clubs around the UK, and further afield, which are being mercilessly plundered as you would a failing business. Bates is just more effective at running Leeds United than most others in similar positions in other clubs. Fans must vote with their feet for this to start to change. The problem is that many fans are too deeply attached to be able to disconnect themselves, which is why we continue to be taken advantage of. Someone will eventually shout stop and the rest will listen. The problem is that it will probably be too late. See that super moron Morrinhio slink off like a beaten cat in the dark? The Munich left back, a young kid of 19, is he a find. Going to be a star. Barca have to replace two wing backs. I wonder if he will be one? I reckon Cahill is going to be 'influential' in the final. He's another fine player and great buy. But I cannot see Chelsea coping with Munich's speed. It's the finishing by Munich that is their problem. If Drogba was on there side it'd be game over. Got a feeling the Torres will finally make a mark in the game -- but not enough to win it. All in all great relief that its not going to be an Iberian tactic farce with many personal melodramatic sub plots. Just a game of footie for a change. The MS has been showing again in his many utterings in different settings what a destructive evil bag of shit he really is. Levi is a complete twat. I cringe and loath at the 'poor little yid big bully anti-Semite' whine. Levi, if you can't stand the heat don't go in the kitchen. Levi knows who he, Levi, is. He also knew who the MS was. I'm sorry but I don't buy this 'shaking in my sch-tel as the Cossack gallops by'. Sure it wasn't nice. It was expected. I can appreciate Levi calling MS a racist on getting the 'Enemy from within' part. But to go to court and try get money? Stinks!! As much as I loath MS I am not in Levi's corner here -- putting it mildly. But ominous was MS's utterance on transfer policy. I reckon Colin will take the old goat on and either get what he wants or jack it in. As in my book a bully is a coward, IMO MS will back down. But will the signings click in? Colin, if still here, will have crisis around Xmas. Championship promotion teams are either front runners that don't falter too much or strong finishers. We will have to be the second because no overhauled team goes out and wins straight off. In other words I am far from optimistic about next season. The court case exhibits what a complete shit MS is. It also shows how precarious, intricate and probably malignant are his side dealings [ property, ownership, Yorkshire radio]. Chelsea village showing that the twat doesn't get up and go when bought out. In short no sane person would touch him with a barge pole. Only a devious twin of his own ilk. That we can do without thank you. And those who think that MS's death will clarify or normalize his dealings are in cloud cuckoo land. The depth of his devious destructive duplicity will become apparent even to those who thought they were screwing and find that they got screwed too. Then the shit hits the fan. My hope is that the TRUST can find ways to get a tentative fund set up. It would at first be a 'virtual' stock holders entity. By that I mean going public. Asking 'if you could participate in a buy Leeds United how much would you be prepared to pay as a future stock holder?' Run that on FB, TWITTER, LINKEDIN WACCOE and see how much can we tentaively think of raising. The try going after local business man and people who were interested. Maybe a stand by tactic like this can save the club when we are about to go under after the MS pops his clogs and the mess is apparent. I'd be willing to try help set up the start of the idea. This is all too confusing, all I know is I'm Spartacus Jezza PS. This may or may not be true. Or is it PPS. Great semi final today, crap penno shoot out, didn't care who won but loved to see Ronaldo miss his shoot out penalty. Any team that misses three out of four penalties is a team that bottled it. Is there someone lined up? Is it likely to be someone associated with Bates, i.e. Chelsea connection? There are any number of high-profile but poor managers out there... Re: [LU] So, what does the season hold?
Guy, you don't need to be a genius to predict the top 5 of the Premier on the basis of weekly scores. Amateur, as I am, I am about to place a bet on any 5 from 8. No science, no methodology, as such, just a glance at the likely squads and comparisons with the remainder. Now, ask me to predict the actual placings and I would be taking a wild guess. However, if someone paid me for my opinion, I would gamble on the proviso it was a flexible and an ongoing opinion based on results and possible trends. If your friend was anywhere near accurate surely fortunes would be made on backing the predictions. I think not! At this moment, to predict LU as 19th at the finish is as safe as houses. Should LU win their next 3 matches where would that put them ? Just out of interest, where did your friend predict Millwall at midnight last Friday ? Anyhow, good to see you back in harness / action. I hope you have recovered from all your misfortunes. Regards, Michael (D's D) Quote from Guy If we look at the Premier League for this season, we predicted a two horse race and nothing has happened to change this. The likelihood of winning the title is shown in the graph below which has been plotted since the beginning of August. United went above Chelsea when they beat them in the Community Shield but dropped back below after last weekend's draw at Fulham.
