Not sure whether this was a good point or two points lost. It looked to me
that Brentford came with a not to lose attitude especially in the 2nd half so
maybe we should have put our subs on earlier and really gone for it. The
discussion pre-match was whether Rutter would go straight in. A record £36
million pound signing surely had to figure at some point but instead he sat
rooted to the bench for most of the afternoon. I find it hard to comprehend why
he wasn't at very least given 15 minutes. It would have sparked the crowd and
you just never know ? Overall though, I thought this was a better performance
particularly at the back where Wober looks very solid. I hope Marsch doesn't
move him to left back because it's about time we had a central defender who
doesn't fuck up every other match. The tactics continue to mystify though. We
are so narrow that you need someone to take the ball and weave their way
through 3 or 4 defenders to create a chance. It's not going to happen so we
were restricted to long range efforts and one great chance for Willy. Marsch
thought Aaronson and his best match ? Really ? Yes the lad is trying and you
can really see that but the more he tries the more desperate he looks and more
and more things just don't come off for him. Everyone seems to be getting on
his back whereas Roca's non-performances seem to be largely going unecrognised
although I've noticed more and more people commenting about his role in the
team. He was brough to be the creative one in midfield but he tried 2 long
passes yesterday and both were straight to an opposition player. To be fair, he
did lots of work and some nice bits and pieces but he normally just passes the
ball bak or prods it forward 5 years to Gnonto or Harrison. I think we need
better than Roca in this position. With 10 mins to go, Marsh takes Roca off and
puts on Greenwood because he is better at delivering the ball from set pieces ?
But Roca takes corners and has a nice left foot ? The big question now is how
does Marsch accomodate Rodrigo / Bamford / Rutter / Summerville / Sinistera /
Harrison / Gnonto / Geldhardt (going apparently) ? Nice problem to have but
someone is not going to be happy. For me, as good as Rodrigo has been playing,
he's not a number 9 and doesn't hold the line well. Bamford does that so much
better. Also Rutter says he wants to play down the middle. Hopefully we'll get
a look at him against Accrington Stanley on Saturday. Welcome to England
Georginio !
Going to be a fascinating Feb.

Ayling - 7. I thought he had a good game. Feel much better with Ayling at RB

Re: [LU] Brentford-aka Return of the Bam

2021-12-06 Thread MATTHEW GAYNOR via Leedslist

I think the game probably demonstrated how little we understand what
Bielsa is doing most of the time

Accepting this is based on twitter reaction and not that in the ground

The team at the start was largely met with approval by the fans - apart
from griping about Roberts - but most fans happy that players were in
the right positions. Except we werent very good for first 15 mins.

Then Cooper gets injured - instead of the obvious replacement with
Cresswell, Bielsa moves half the team around when Harrison comes on -
including putting James upfront which no-one really likes. Fans hate it
- say Bielsa has lost it. Except we improve massively and dominate the
game for the rest of the half

Then Phillips gets injured. We make the most obvious replacement, bring
Klich on and dropping Forshaw back. Fans approve. We then fall apart
for 15 minutes.

Finally Bamford comes on - but not for Roberts or James but for Firpo,
meaning we now have a defence of Dallas, Llorente and a half-fit Ayling
against a pacy Brentford attack. Somehow that works and we are the
better team towards the end

Well another injury time goal, that saved the day and changed the mood.
You have to give this side credit for going till the last minute but the
feeling was that it should not have been needed and it was still 2
points dropped.
There were also the first murmurings of discontent around Bielsa in a
very subdued crowd for the most part.
We knew Brentford would be the sort of time wasting , play acting, shit
housing team that ruins the game, as soon as they made us kick towards
the Revie stand first half ( traitor Pontus)
Despite that we started ok and were miles the better team first half ,
and well worth the half time lead. Nice to see Roberts get the goal his
recent efforts have deserved and glad to see him celebrate with the
crowd with no ear cupping or other sarcastic gestures ( a la Chris wood)
The slight disgruntlement came when Cooper went off injured - send on
the impressive Cresswell we all thought, but no, after toying with the
idea of Klich he sent on Harrison and moved players around. To be fair
it worked but was an odd choice and brought some questioning of Bielsa

Re: [LU] Brentford

2019-08-22 Thread Jeremy Adams
I thought Bamford made a good run to drag a defender with him to create space.
What happened though was he dragged two defenders with him, one of the
Brentford defenders got sucked in when he shouldn't have and that left Eddie
free. Most goals are down to a defensive mistake, I felt Bamford created that
mistake with his run and Eddie made an intelligent run to capitalize on it.

I'd like to see them both together, Bielsa's plan was to have Roofe and Bamford
together wasnt it? I think Eddie and Paddie could do a job together.

Rich,
I agree with almost everything you wrote. But if you look at the goal again,
Bamford's not really "marked." He moves into space for Costa to cut the ball
back to him, but Costa chose the arguably more difficult pass, threading it
past two retreating defenders to the waiting Nketiah.Bamford's movement made
one of the defenders check back a half step, which made the difference. Great
goal, and one that I hope we recreate on a regular basis.

Cheers!

Few thoughts.

Good win against a lively Brentford team who were unlucky not to be 1 up at
half time due to the woodwork. It was a fast paced, frantic game of low
quality, especially from us at times. We gave the ball away time after time
after getting in good positions. Pablo had his worst game for Leeds before
being dragged off. He hardly contributed and when he did get the ball he
frequently gave it away. Hopefully he’ll be back on song at the weekend but
overalll his distribution has to improve.
I think Harrison’s position in the team is questionable with Costa breathing
down his neck. For me Harrison has seen a lot the ball this season but hasn’t
really produced. I thought he was poor last night and although it’s always
easier coming on as a sub Costa has a yard extra of pace and acceleration.

Observation on the goal - as Costa breaks down the wing Bamford moves
instinctively to the front post where he is marked, Eddie instinctively ghosts
out to the back post unmarked. Easy pass to Eddie and goal and the very clear
difference in natural goal poacher v unnatural goal poacher. Is there room for
2 strikers ? I think so. For me Eddie cannot sit on the bench. He offers us
something that we currently don’t have.

So good win but that’s the second time at home that we’ve struggled. You could
say that Forest and Brentford might be play off contenders and they’re good
wins or you could say that we’re not firing at home yet.

Still top of the league and unbeaten.

Personally, I thought Bamford did OK against a back three on his own, but was
always going to struggle especially when Pontus has briefed Brentford so well
on exactly how we play. First half we weren’t able to pass and rotate out of
defence to midfield and attack - credit to Brentford for easily spotting and
killing every midfield rotation. Not helped by Pablo’s atrocious passing.
Phillips had to mop up continually, almost playing as a third centre half most
of the game. Not quite got the passing to be the Yorkshire Pirlo yet mind.
When Costa and Eddie came on we switched formation with two up front, and
allowed Alioski to push further up. 4 against 3 did the trick, and I believe
it’s Bamford’s brilliant movement that draws two defenders to the near post
allowing Eddie to tap in from well inside the far post.

It’s a vulnerable system that pays off in the last 20 when the opposition
are tired, but I would like to see Eddie and Bamford together for 90
minutes.

Re: [LU] Brentford

2019-08-21 Thread Richard walker via Leedslist

I think that taking Phillips off at half time v Wigan contributed to the number
of times they picked up loose balls in midfield.
Also at Brentford he would have stifled some of their counter attacks earlier.

He makes the first challenge on so many attacks, when he is missing Cooper and
Jansson don't seem to know when to step out, and when to  sit and cover.

Totally agree with Dave Nattan's assessment.  If Leeds squeeze past
Derby/Boro/Bristol and if I qualify for ticket as a Gold-Member, it may be up
for grabs.
I'm going on holiday the day after  the play-off final, and I don't want to

Prior to today's game, Bamford was averaging a goal every 112 minutes.
Averaged over the whole season with a healthy Bamford, that probably is
enough to secure promotion.

2019-04-22 Thread John Lee via Leedslist
The last two games have been, without any doubt, the most depressing for a long
time, because we had promotion in our grasp, and at the very death the lack of
quality caught up with us. OK, we should have had a penalty, but we missed
against Wigan, and f*** me Hernandez couldn’t even deliver a decent corner
today. Our passing was really bad, shockingly bad, and we have just bottled it!

I don’t expect us to proceed via the play-offs - it’ll be a very cruel irony if
f***ing Derby beat us and get promoted!

I wish I hadn’t witnessed the game at all - that bad! I didn’t see the point of
Forshaw over Phillips, but would it have made a difference the other way round?
Who knows.

Really cheesed off! It really is the hope that kills you!

Re: [LU] Brentford

2019-04-22 Thread Simon McNally
It’s so disappointing after such a good season and hard to be really negative
after it and with the playoffs to come.
However, the way we’ve played the last two games and the results against
Norwich and Sheff Utd at home fills me with no confidence for the playoffs.
We’ve had a good year but come up short in too many key games. Their confidence
looks shot, it’s going to be a massive job to get them up for the remaining
games.
Don’t want to sound like a broken record but lack of investment in January has
cost us. Whoever’s decision it was not to sign another striker/defender/etc ,
whether it was Radz, Bielsa or Orta , it was a massive mistake. I still think
if Pukki or Sharp or Gayle or even on today’s game Maupay played for Leeds we’d
be up already.

I’m off to get wrecked

Re: [LU] Brentford

2019-04-22 Thread Richard Walker via Leedslist
That was a very depressing watch. You could see just the confidence draining
away as the match ticked along. We had nothing to offer up front. Bamford is a
touch player who needs confidence. In the match he was asked to roll up his
sleeves and get stuck in. He couldn’t and he’s really gone down in my
estimation.

The subs again were poor. Jack Clarke came on a just slipped over every time he
got the ball. What the fuck was going on with the pitch. Roofe also came on and
contributed nothing other than slipping over a few times.

It’s been a good season on the whole but we’re lacking quality and I don’t
expect us to do anything in the Play offs. Just more expense and disappointment
on the way.

Very, very disappointing. A whole season thrown away by our two poorest
performances of the season. Be interesting to see how Bielsa plays the final 2
games.

He did well but ultimately it was an off target shot and that was the best he
conjured up all game. I think he's got promise but at the moment I think he
needs a bit of coaching on how to play in the box.

The one at the end was a brilliant effort...he shouldn't have even
have got to the ball ahead of the defender. If you have ever played
football, you will understand that he could not possibly wrap his foot
around the ball enough to get that on target, but he did really well to get
it close.

Yes - their full back was good - but he got Harrison early with one of those
‘welcome to the game’ challenges…and Harrison spent to next 70 minutes pulling
out of tackles and conspicuously avoiding contact - this is one thing that
Alioski, for whatever other faults he may have, can’t be accused of…don’t get
me wrong, I think Harrison has promise, but he got chewed up and spat out
yesterday.

know what he was doing - Brentford taking the free kick when Ayling hadn’t left

Ayling was a bag of shite all game
Pontus had one of his best games
Harrison was lightweight and invisible for much of it
They didn’t run the midfield in the first half…it was a 50-50 thing…Klich was
causing them as many nightmares as they were causing us, but he faded badly.

I am not a Phillips fan but I thought tis was his best game in ages. And
Alisoski won the free kick that led to the goal and and took the free kisk.
Also thought this was his best game. Ayling poor thoughout.

I've said it before and I'll say it again but that starting 11 will be lucky to
make the play offs and today, for the first 70 minutes it was clear that we
were second best. Our passing was terrible led by Luke Ayling whose performance
levels have been plummeting all season. Yes I would say that since he arrived,
he has been a great signing but I'd say at the moment he's not worth his place
in the team. For the first 20 minutes he hit new lows as all his passes went
astray, he was out of position frequently and then had to foul to recovery his
position putting us under pressure. Hopefully he'll come back strong after the
break.

Mind you, he wasn't the only one who was finding them second best to a very
good Brentford team. With Brentford completely dominating midfield we struggled
to create with Allioski and Harrison ineffective and isolated and an unbalanced
left side with Dallas filling in for the injured Douglas who I thought we
missed. Too many times Dallas pushed forward leaving holes at the back and it
was left to Jansson to mop up. Playing Dallas at left back was just a very poor
managerial decision and all about accommodation of a player who is in Bielsa's
22 rather than selecting Pearce who isn't a great defender (although as good as
Dallas) but would have provided much better balance. I thought Bielsa was
better than that. We did have one or two chances the best falling to Philips
who was denied by a great point blank save by their keeper. At the other end
they hit the bar and Peacock made a great save to deny them.

The ref didn't help and from the start you could see he just didn't have
control of the game. Every free-kick was contentious and it seemed he was
reacting to players and the crowd for his decision rather than being on top of
it. Refs like that will ruin games and this ref should be sent back to
non-league to learn his trade before he ever takes charge of a league match.
Second half wasn't much better and Brentford continued to have the best chances
and look the more likely to score. Their goal looked at the time to be a
definite pen and I thought Peacock might have got his marching orders but
looking at it this morning their player conned the ref, however I don't blame
him for that decision just the 100 others that he got wrong.
The subs for Leeds - Clarke for Dallas, Forshaw for Siaz and Baker for Klich
did change things. Allioski went to left back and did ok and in midfield we
looked quicker and stronger and for the first time in the game we began to
control things in midfield and create chances. It made me realise that the
midfield of Siaz, Philips and Klich is too pedestrian.
We finally got the goal we deserved for some good play in the last 20 minutes
with Jansson stooping to nod over the keeper into the net. Queue some scenes in
the stands and on the pitch.
Scores:
Peacock - 7. One or two decent saves, good kicking and also one or two moments
of confusion with his defence.
Ayling - 3. Very poor. His passing has deserted him and he looks vulnerable at
the back. Weak link today.
Dallas - 3. Kept going forward on his right foot leaving holes in the defence.
Huge mistake to play him at left back.
Cooper - 4. Bad mistake for their pen. Same old Cooper will fuck up when the
pressure is on.
Jansson - 8. Held us together time and time again.
Philips - 5. Battled hard but offers little.
Klich - 5. Definitely not himself today.
Siaz - 4. Didn't contribute.
Harrison - 4. Don't rate him. He has no real pace and rarely beats his man.
Allioski - 5. Offered nothing going forward but when moved to left back he
seemed to be more at home.
Subs:
Clarke - LIke the look of the lad. A tall James Milner type player.
Forshaw - Does everything Philips can't
Baker - decent free-kick and he looks like a player to me.

Did we deserve a point ? I don't think so. Brentford are a better side than us
and I think we will slip out of the play off places if we continue with this
starting 11.

2018-10-07 Thread Nick
The problem with the ref was not so much the penalty decision (which he got
conned on) but the twenty or thirty other challenges - some of them really good
clean tackles - that he blew for…he just gave the impression that he didn’t
know what he was doing - Brentford taking the free kick when Ayling hadn’t left
the pitch…as Dave mentioned I’ve never heard a crowd a sing "you don’t know
what you’re doing” when the ref gives a free kick to their team…

Ayling was a bag of shite all game
Pontus had one of his best games
Harrison was lightweight and invisible for much of it
They didn’t run the midfield in the first half…it was a 50-50 thing…Klich was
causing them as many nightmares as they were causing us, but he faded badly.

I don’t think we’re being hyper critical by pointing out the fact that passing
a ball seems beyond Ayling (for one). Like Rich, I thought we didn’t deserve
even a point, but was ecstatic when Pontus scored. First half we kind of
matched Brentford - second half was a very different story. What Bielsa has
done with the resources at hand has been miraculous, but when Dallas is first
reserve at left back the deficiencies in the squad are pretty clear.

The ref was bad, for both teams, but Ayling was stupid beyond belief - 20
seconds from the end kicking one of their players on the thigh with studs
showing! What an utter bell-end! OK, the ref was rubbish, and was conned for
the penalty (although there was contact) but that’s just an excuse really - no
doubt Janssons post match interview will land him in bother, but if he thinks
the ref robbed us he is seriously deluded!

There is plenty to hope for with this team, and maybe reality is that we’re not
strong enough yet, but if we can get a couple of decent ball players and
integrate a couple of the juniors then it looks good. Passing the ball to our
own players is a must though!

First one was the equivalent of a back pass to the keeper and the one at the
end wasn’t even in target.

As I said he did ok but we need better up front if we’re considering promotion

Re: [LU] Brentford

2018-10-07 Thread Simon McNally
I think that is a fair assessment of the game.
Hernandez would always be the first name on the team sheet for me and we always
miss him when he’s not playing.
Ayling had a shocker but has been one of our better players since he arrived.
Hopefully Berardi will be fit for the Blackburn game or maybe he’ll play
Shackleton there. More likely I suppose would be Dallas to right back but I
just don’t rate him. I’m not convinced he can play the way Bielsa wants to. His
touch is poor he’s often out of position and he can’t cross to save his life.
I think our first choice 11 is decent but back up players not at same level

Subject: [LU] Brentford

Wow - there are some ultra critical fans on here. OK we were not at out best
today and we were very lapse at timesHaving said that apart from the last 15
minutes when we battered them it was a very even, up and down game with both
teams being on top for periods here and there
The referee was as bad as I have seen - in 40 + years of watching LUFC week
after week I cannot recall fans ever singing' you don't know what you're
doing' and 'you're not fit to referee' after a ref has given a free kick OUR
way ! Yes, we have had plenty of sarcastic cheering when we get a decision and
lots of ironic 'handball ' shouts but nothing like today. The ref was totally
clueless and out of his depth, and like many a ref, seemed to be out to show he
would not be intimidated by the home crowd. At one point Alioski lost his
footing with their lad at least 2 yards away and the ref gave us a free-kick
which led to laughter and the aforementioned chants
The penalty was at the opposite end to where I am so hard to determine live but
I have seen it on peoples phones since and that was never a pen in a million
years - the lad got his shot off (would ref have given a pen if it had gone it)
and Ayling made a great goal line clearanceI hate it when managers blame the
ref for one decision so I am not going to say it was his fault here , BUT in
addition to the wrong penalty decision the ref was pulling us for foul after
foul any time players came into contact and was card happy when it came to
Leeds players (no idea why Ayling got sent off but not seen it since so not
going to comment)
Anyway back to the game itself. Like I say we had a poor day at the office and
our passing was just that bit wayward - under or over hit too often, or taking
the wrong option.

They were a decent team and got the rub of the green most of the time, much of
it deserved - for example the scramble where Phillips nearly scored but the
keeper did really well and got the luck he needed
Harrison was off the pace and out of form and has as much chance of playing for
Man City as Pennington has of playing for Everton - none !
We huffed and puffed but at times were out Leeds' by a very decent team
The missing players caught up with us today but you cannot fault us for effort
and we never gave it up - in fact we created more in the last 15 minutes than
the previous 75 with Roberts and Baker (twice) coming close to getting us a
winner
MB made all 3 subs with 20mins or more to go - none of this sitting back and
letting the game pass us by. The best of the subs was giving Clarke a run out.
He looks brilliant and the stand out player for the u23s and for the brief
time he was on the pitch he showed enough to suggest he is the real deal and
should get more game time in the future
So another 2 pts dropped at home and, on paper, we have not got many points per
game over the last 6 or 7 BUT it is so different from last season - we have not
been found out, we can not be bullied and we are not falling apart again- we
should have won many of the drawn games and today even though we were far from
our best we could easily have had all 3 pts
Hopefully when we play next Roofe, Douglas and Hernandez will start and Berardi
will replace the suspended Ayling
This is time to get behind the team and buy into the Bielsaball not panic and
get on the teams back
One final comment - for a 12.30 kick off the fans were a bit mental. Lots of
plastic bottles thrown from SS after the little shit jumped into them to
celebrate his penalty, another Lucazade bottle thrown (and hit) the keeper from
the Kop and then a mini pitch invasion when we equalised including one lad
fighting with 4 or 5 stewards over a few minutes- long enough that the police
decided to step in. Why would someone run on the pitch and get a criminal
conviciton and a 3 year ban for an 88th minute equaliser against a mid table
team in Ocotber Not that it would be OK to do it with a last minute winner
in the last game in May but you know what I mean

Plan A is plan A.

Bielsa won’t change the plan. He would betray the players if he said the
system that did work in the games we did win is all of a sudden no longer
valid.

Don’t know if it’ll work, but that’s the system.

Hard to argue with that Rich. Ayling was utterly shite - his passing has been
shite for weeks, but his positives outweighed the negatives until today. His
sending off capped a shit afternoon. I hope Bielsa will have a rethink about
the fannying around at the back - he must have shat himself when Cooper was
doing his oak tree impression!

We were very lucky to get a point, despite the penalty that shouldn’t have been.

Siaz is so slow - that’s why he’s playing in England in the second tier and
not in Spain.

Found out by a better ‘team’ for sure, but we didn’t lose, so if this speeds up
the introduction of younger players in their ‘natural’ position rather than
seeing Dallas criss crossing the pitch then getting caught out time and again,
then maybe some good will come from it?

Surely Bielsa must see the dangers of inadequate players trying to play out
from the back against good pressing teams?

Re: [LU] Brentford

2018-02-24 Thread nat...@sky.com
We won and that is what counts. This was almost a game of two halves , the
first half we were second best throughout and really rode our luck, second half
we were the better team and only some odd refereeing decisions stopped us
extending the lead
From the first whistle we were awful , unable to string two passes together as
we faced wave after wave of attacks, mainly down our left as Anita, in for De
Bock, looked like a fish out of water. It all came down that side and we
struggled to get any foot hold in the game as they looked faster, sharper and
just generally better than us.

Having said that chances were at a premium and they kept messing up the final
ball and no clear cut opportunites arose. The best chance was a clearance that
fell to their lad on the edge of the box who volleyed it goal wards- it was a
nice height for the keeper and indeed, Felix went at it full stretch and made a
great save, one that will look better on TV than it was in reality
At the other end we never got going. We had Saiz, possibly the best player in
the league, certainly the best player at ER and we never gave him the ball.
Also Lassogga, up there with the best goals per minutes ratio in the league got
no service.

It was looking like it would be a long afternoon when suddenly, against the run
of play we got a free kick just inside their half, Alioski put it into the box
and, not for the first time League One Liam (as my lad calls him) met it
brilliantly, but, for the first time in a long time, he got it on target and
into the net.1 up and we never looked back
Second half with the crowd trying to replicate last Sundays atmosphere, we
looked a different team with Saiz pulling all the strings and looking like a
player from a different planet.

For all that we did not create too much, our best chance being an awful bit
from the referee. The ball was passed forward to Lassogga who was clean through
and took it towards the keeper. Surely he would score?
We never found out as the ref pulled it back for a foul on Siaz (?) and booked
the Brentford player. What happened to advantage ? We were robbed. Even worse a
bit later on Saiz had his shirt pulled but stayed on his feet and carried on
with the ball but the ref pulled it back- ridiculous
We did look as if, for once, we would hold out,as their only chance was a free
kick from distance that Felix should have caught but decided to parry- poor
keeping.
Anyway we made a few subs with Ekuban and Sacko both coming on to no great
affect , (I think I am the last of the Sacko fans) and we saw the game out
Not the best performance but we just about shaded it and a useful three points.
Too late perhaps but welcome nontheless.

Agree with most of that.
When I heard O’Kane and Cooper were starting I was tempted to stay in the car
rather than going into the ground.
I was impressed with the Heck’s comments the other day about using the
remaining games to make a judgement about who is going to be here next season.
Weidwald - good save first half but why doesn’t he catch that free kick? He’s
made too many mistakes this season and we need an upgrade next season.
Berardi - did ok, steady performance
Anita - was really worried early on, particularly when he got booked, but stuck
at it and at least does the basics well
Jansson - our best defender, looked solid. Only panic was when him and Cooper
went for the same ball
Cooper - first time for ages he actually got a header on target. Played well
today but I hope it doesn’t fool Heck. He is not a regular player in a team
pushing for promotion
Dallas - solid if unspectacular. Does a job and works hard
Alioski - falls over too much but a lot better today. Great cross for goal
O’Kane - did a few things well but a lot wrong. Nearly gifted them a goal early
on, messed up a good chance late on. A league one player at best
Phillips - thought he had a good game. Broke up play and won a few second balls
Saiz - head and shoulders above everyone else on the pitch
Big Pete - looks more interested, linked up play and nearly scored

Disappointed to hear Roofe was injured - thought the Heck had dropped him and
wouldn’t have to watch him again!

Hernandez and Jannson were the pick of the bunch. Great day out with other

Luckily I was out last night so did not have to suffer listening to it on the
radio, but everything I have seen and read makes it seem as if we were very
poor.
I am not sure if Monk is now struggling to work out his best team or if he just
(over) re-acted to the Reading defeat and dropped all those who were poor - we
all agreed Cooper, Veirra and Sacko were pretty awful, most thought the same
about Pedraza and Taylor was at fault for the goal. Whatever it was a bad
result and performance last night

Having said that , when I was swimming today, I though back to the 3
'successes' LUFC have had in my watching  lifetime and all 3 had  a game when I
thought we had blown it

The 89 promotion season - last home game, a night game v Barnsley - us unbeaten
at home, them not a single away victory all season - a nailed on 3 points and
almost certain promotion. I remember them turning to religion and bringing on
Archdeacon and Bishop who both scored and suddenly our title was hanging by a
thread. Then BOOM ! Bournemouth and promotion

The League title -a  trip to Maine Road, Man City not scored for 3 or 4 games,
us flying, beaten there 4 1 the previous year 'well it cannot be as bad as last
year' we all said, and '3 pts and the title is coming our way" - 90mins and 4
goals later it was all 'Man City have handed the title to their red rivals' -
all doom and gloom. The BOOM! Sheff Utd and the title

Then the promotion from the 3rd Division - at home to Bristol Rovers - needing
to win to avoid the playoffs (and almost certain defeat in them) - Max sent off
and 0 0 at half time. "we can still do it as long as we do not go behind" was
mine and most peoples thoughts. A few minutes later there it was 0 1 and us in
big trouble - we all thought we had blown it. Then BOOM ! Johnny Howson (the
answer to our prayers- as i sarcastically said at the time) and Beckford and
promotion

So fear not fellow listers - Reading and Brentford was the big scare - the
Barnsley , the Man City, the Bristol goal and  Saturday v Preston will be the
BOOM ! and Wood's hat trick will sort it all out*
Dave* disclaimer - this is after a load of morphine to get me through my
exercises and can in no way be treated as FACT !

Re: [LU] Brentford

2016-12-18 Thread {broken-address} Richard Walker
I agree with that Dave, in fact, all of us who went to the game yesterday
thought in terms of the football on the show, this was a step backwards and was
the worst we've seen for some while.
Brentford were a very average team but I thought they had a couple of players
that were lively.

The result and the goal flattered us and there's no way I'm getting carried
away by this, some of our players are not up to it in my opinion.

I thought all our defence did well again, but in midfield Philips was bloody
awful. He kept giving the ball away or firing it into touch. I think he's
improved but I'd put him back in the reserves for now. Bridcutt steadied the
ship when he came on and I think the excellent Vierra needs to play alongside
Bridcutt not Philips.

I thought Sacko had his usual game, he terrified them, made some good runs but
there was no end product.

Dallas - not sure what he is ? I thought he was bang average.

Doukara worked hard and did one or two good things but I was actually left
questioning whether we missed Wood which is not good for the Duke.

Sorry for shit match report I'm feeling rough, the drinking yesterday was
better than the footy.

Re: [LU] Brentford

2016-12-17 Thread wayne callaghan

For the most part dreadful to watch., but I don't understand why so many left
the ground with 5 mins plus stoppage time to go, it's like leaving the cinema
just before the film ends..

Ayling worked his bollocks off... we won... we kept a clean sheet ,not sure
there were any more positives.

Due to late working and train delays I only had time for 1 pint before the
match so, for the first time in ages I was sober - big mistake.

The first half was really dreadful, and we were lucky that Brentford seemed to
be playing with no attackers so we went in only 1 down. Their goal was
dreadful defending from the whole team let the guy run and run. Second half was
better in most respects, but we still only troubled the keeper 3 times, one of
which was the goal and the other two belters from Doukara.

Leeds fans in decent voice, especially at half time bantering with the subs
kicking about. Started to get a bit restless midway through 2nd half, until
goal went in and mentalness ensued! Definitely going to make an effort to get
to the pub on time next time.

Re: [LU] Brentford

2015-09-15 Thread Kevin Lewis (UK SBS)
It seems clear to me that Antenucci is one of the better players, and Rosler
needs to find a way to accommodate him in a 4-3-3 somehow, or change the system
to accommodate the players at his disposal. I like the pressing game that
Rosler seems to favour, and would worry that 4-4-2 would make the team too easy
to pick off in midfield.

Perhaps he could try Antennuci on the left of the 3 up front, with a role where
he is allowed to wander across between the left wing and inside right
positions. Mowatt and Taylor between them could provide width on the left.
Have an orthodox winger on the other side, so that Berardi is able to stay back
with the C Backs. Cooper would be covering the left if Taylor got caught
forward.
If need be, the same players could switch to 4-4-2 or 4-2-3-1 if it wasn't
working.

It relies on Mowatt getting a bit of form back and Wood/Antenucci understanding
that one of them (whoever is closest) has to chase back with the opposition
right back. Not sure where that leaves Byram though.

Re: [LU] Brentford

2015-09-13 Thread Nick Allen
Agree with pretty much all of that...probably slightly less on the doom and
gloom side, the two things I'd add, would be that it was the bringing on of
both Murphy and Antenucci that made the difference...and yes Murphy was high
wide and handsome with two efforts, but he comes in a poor second to Sam
Byram's 3 "shots on goal" in about 20 minutes...which were abject and wasteful.

Re: [LU] Brentford

2015-09-13 Thread Simon McNally
I thought this was a really poor game. It was somewhere in the second half
before we had a shot on target.
There was no urgency or pace about anything we did first half.
I'm all for giving players and managers time to gel but 6 games in I'm not sure
what we are getting from rosler that we weren't getting from redfearn. He was a
bit arsey when asked on the radio whether he regretted not starting antenucci.
He seems really attached to his 433 and fair play to him for changing it at
half time but we could have been 3 down by then - we can't afford to only turn
up for half a game. He also said Mowatt was carrying an injury - why play him
then if you've got Murphy fit?
I also don't understand why doukara is even in the 18 - does he have a member
of rosler's family hostage? Last time he came on he looked even more overweight
and uninterested than before. Why not get Erwin in the squad?
I know people will say we're still unbeaten but we've dropped 6 points already
against poor teams that will be in the bottom half of the table.

Re: [LU] Brentford

2015-02-06 Thread davidwoolmer
4 points wouldn't be a bad haul in the context of our season as long as 3 come
against Millwall.

As for tomorrow 4-5-1 all the way for me. We look better playing it and
Brentford over-ran us in midfield at their place and we horribly lacked cover
in front of our defence that day. If that keeps things solid and 0-0 for Sharp
to then come off the bench and win it then lovely.

Difficult one - on the one hand, don't change a winning team etc, but the 4 5 1
set up is better suited to play away from home. On top of that Redders has to
look to reward Sharp for doing exactly what was needed and what he is there for
last week.Plus despite how well Morison is doing as the one up front he does
not look like scoring and to win the home games (which we need to do) we need
to score at least one goal.I agree that Rudy does look much better rampaging
forward as part of a midfield 5 than he does as a defensive midfielder either
in a 4 or as part of a 4 2 3 1 alongside Cook.
I worry that of the 3 new loanees, one is likely to start , one is injured and
out for at least a month and according to Redders the other one is 2 weeks
training from being part of the squad (although I would not be surprised to see
him on the bench)
Whatever the case we need 6 or 7 points this week - 3 each in the home games v
Brentford and Millwall (a 6 pointer on its own) and maybe one point v ReadingI
suppose 2 draws and a victory over Millwall may not be a bad haul, but the
sooner we get safe the sooner we can look to next season, or even get all 9
points and go on a bit of a run to give us at least the hope and optimism of a
possible, albeit unlikely, play off place.
Looking forward to it

some talk that we will revert to a 442, with Sharp & Antenucci or Morison
upfront, presumably for Mowatt.  That leaves Cook, Murphy, Austin and Byram
in midfield and I guess means Rudy will be playing a more defensive midfield
role.  Just wonder if it's sensible to change a winning formula (4-5-1)
against a team close to the top?

Thanks Dave, pretty much how it sounded on the radio.

Apparently Redders didn't travel with team which is worrying.

Doukara was god awful. Who knows how he didn't get subbed.

In general far too passive, playing our football far too deep in ineffective
positions in our own half, such that when it broke down we put ourselves under
pressure. Balls forward were long and straight and easy to defend.

Didn't close them down. The very few occasions we did Brentford looked
flustered.

Substitutions were poor, unimaginative and didn't do anything to change the
game.

Those are the plus points.

Very disappointing result. Darko obviously bored the poor fuckers into a dismal
performance.

I am assuming this is the occasional one step backwards that Reddrs warned us
about.

Still ruined my weekend . Will never get my head around that we've been
comprehensively beaten by fucking Brentford.

I'm going to the pub for some Leeds pale ale. Much of it.
