2023-05-09 Thread Robert Heath
Yeah. Brighton (a town which should be obliterated from the map for Crimes
Against Leeds United) were clearly on the beach last night. We've all got 3
games left. I think Wham & Totteringham should both be officially OTB by
the time we play them. Unfortunately, all the other teams have 2 OTB games
out of the 3...except Leicester who only have 1. I am classifying
Chelsea v Notts as an OTB game which I expect Chelsea to lose, but you
never know with them. That one game could decide our fate!

There's 4 players i'd be happy to see in the team at the moment -
problem is they are all wingers.

I think we can cope upfront and centre-back if Wober and Bamford are fit
but we dont have a single full-back or midfielder available i have
confidence in at the moment.

We might be back to chucking a centre-back into midfield to give some
presence, then McKennie could move forward into Aaronson's spot or we
could play Greenwood there.

Completely stuck at full-back. Whilst other teams have perfected moving
a full-back into midfield - we have perfected having the full-back who
is never where he is meant to be.

Absolute shambles, mostly of the club’s own making.
Don’t back Bielsa with signings then sack Bielsa.
Appoint Ted talk vibe merchant and buy bang average players from a one
team pub league. Unsurprisingly they turn out not to be any good.
Sign a fat midfielder from juve and break transfer record on a “project”
who looks like he hasn’t seen a football before.
Sack vibe merchant too late and waste three more games looking for a
replacement.
I was encouraged by Gracia to start with but that was truly awful
yesterday.
I heard Neil Redfearn on the radio on the way home discussing our
tactics.
He was on about the low block we were trying to play but felt you need
good and athletic players to make it work.
You need to be able to get up the pitch quickly to counter when you win
the ball back and then get back into the low block quickly when you lose
it. A midfield of McKennie and Roca isn’t ever going to be able to do
that. Roca looked knackered after about ten minutes and McKennie is
about as mobile as a fridge.
Madness to set up like that.
Saw a shocking stat too. Apparently of the last 13 shots on target
Meslier has faced, 12 have been goals. I had him at fault for at least 3
of them yesterday. He looks shot and I’d play Robles at Fulham.
Right back is like choosing between being punched in the face or the
stomach. Ayling, great servant to the club, but legs have gone and
there’s mistake in him every game or Kristienson who looks like he’s won
a raffle to get a game and has a mistake in him every game.
Midfield garbage but virtually no alternatives. Gyabi has been great for
the 21s, is he worth a go at Fulham? Can’t be worse than Roca and
McKennie.
Aaronson might be the weakest player I’ve seen on a pitch. Looks like a
stiff breeze might knock him over. Runs around, falls over, doesn’t
release the ball quick enough, always makes the wrong decision. Did we
really pay £20m for him?
I’m struggling to see where the points come from for us to stay up.

Re: [LU] Well

2023-04-18 Thread MATTHEW GAYNOR via Leedslist

Agree re Cooper coming back, but I’d move Struijk to right back.

I think we’re going down, but I thought that last season too. We’re worse now!

McKennie / Roca in midfield - p*ss poor!

Tottenham putting us down will not be a good look!

Re: [LU] Well

2023-04-18 Thread Richard Walker via Leedslist
Yes, the cutting out mid-week drinking plan for me went astray last night. I
just feel totally empty after that performance which was one of the worst. I
think we've 2 maion problems:
1) The manager 2) The players
First of all, have you ever seen a Leeds team set up so negatively at home for
a match. I can't rememeber. We just let Liverpool have the run of the park and
then tried to feed on scraps when their attacks broke down. It was quite
effective for a while but it was only ever going to end one way. After half
time, Gracia tried to get his players to step up the pitch and we looked better
for 10 mins but then they just took control. Liverpool's away record is poor.
Why did we show them so much respect ? Surely we should have gone after them
from the start with Summerville, Gnonto and Sinisterra leading the line.
Rodrigo isn't fit.I think he has to go today and yes that's seems impossible
but how can we stay up with such a negative manager ?
As for the players, it's desperate. Mckennie and Roca is like watching Okon and
Aizlewood. Neither can run, neither have got the fight or the ability to get us
out of this mess and control the midfield. Roca can pass a ball when he's got
oceans of space and isn't under pressure (Forest) but put him under a bit of
pressure and he crumbles. Mckennie is a fat lad who without his lacky Adams
looks lost.
Meslier looks like a keeper who has given up - I would be tempted to put the
reserve keeper in.
I've never been convinced about Struijk and I think we all know now he's not a
PL centre back. His best performance have come at left back but even there he
looks uncomfortable.
It's come to the point when actually I think Cooper and Ayling have to play. At
very least, you know they are going to die for the cause. Last night, we saw
Rutter come on and tippy toe around the park to the final whistel where he
rushed to Firmino to get his shirt and congratulate him. £35 million ! Beggars
belief
Aaronson is a trier but the fact is he isn't good enough. Far too lightweight.
I could go on, but I think we're doomed. Not sure where we go from here.
12:30 Saturday I suppose.

Re: [LU] Well

2023-04-17 Thread John Lee via Leedslist
I think it’s an elaborate double-bluff, which will see Bamford & Wober
recalled, McKennie given a 1 way fare back to Italy, and maybe an attempt to
play some football. Admittedly the last part of that is a stretch?

In a game which I expected to lose, to see the same capitulation was pretty
unbelievable, as was seeing the same kind of substitutions, which made the team
even worse as per the Palace game. As for Rutter, if you’d told me the local
school had run a competition to give their most useless f*cker a game, I’d
believe it! He is a man with no idea, in a team with no ideas, and looks
utterly lost. Firpo looked like he was feigning injury trying to get off,
Sinisterra is starting to make Paddy look tough, and Rodrigo - well, did he
play?

We may, undeservedly, somehow avoid relegation, but we are bloody awful, and
can’t complain if we do go down. 2 years of mainly miserable football and you
really do wonder what’s the point?

As for Gracia, he must be wondering exactly what kind of professional
footballers he’s working with?

In summary, not our finest hour ;-)

Oh, and how could their first goal stand? Fair enough with the other 5,
but..

Re: [LU] Well that's a surprise (not)

2016-11-28 Thread Michael Gardiner
“Not” is, sadly, right. Having coached over on these shores for many years it
seems that hardly a year goes by without one of these stories coming up. My
daughter played on a team coached by one who, a couple of years later, was done
for having diddled (or tried to diddle) some of the players. I coached a
player who’s older brother was done for getting drunk and having an orgy with
several of his female players. And it’s definitely not limited to football.

It seems that, at least over here, while the overwhelming majority of youth
coaches are admirable, hard-working individuals, there’s also a certain type
of person drawn to working with kids for all the wrong reasons. I doubt that
will change.

But what CAN change is to tighten the system of licensing, relicensing and
notification to make sure that it does not happen again and again involving the
same individual.

A footballer - Andy Woodward has come forward with allegations that he was
sexuallyy abused by his coach at Crewe (Bary Bennell who has served time for
it) - since then Paul Stewart (Spurs) and david White (Man City and us ) have
made the same claims, so it has now escalatedFor first couple of days only
Crewe were named but the PFA have set up a hotline and lots of ex players have
come forward (very similar to the Saville stuff) - and a number of clubs have
been mentioned , and as expected LUFC are one of them (Stoke Man CIty Blckpool,
Southampton and Newcastle) over 20 players have come forward so far
Going to be massive and plenty of jail for those convicted

Agreed Ted, how did he keep his job working with children? Inevitably it'll be
'well we all knew but...' - it'll be interesting to know why Crewe sacked him
and how he kept working in football? As for any LUFC issue, I pray it isn't
true, but like others have said, we usually arn't that lucky to be on the right
side of the fence!

Well yes it is pretty good, but for fuck sake do they have to make them so
long? - I know the reason actually its to make more money of course. A lot
of the suspense is squeezed out by subplots and general noddling about. I
see there is a second series planned!

They could learn a lot from something like the Shadowline on the BBC
recently, covered similar themes of betrayal but a lot more tense and
surprising.

 Damien Lewis

true, the female lead does nutjob very well.

Anyway for what it is worth I reckon Saul did it.

I watch a LOT of US shows and you certainly get to the point where the
appearance of a brown skinned guy usually signals a plot about terrorism one
way or the other.

Not a big fan of Homeland just because it is SO slow. Would have made a
good 2-hour movie, but 8 hours???

Also, a good point someone made about them stretching things out and ruining
them. I remember reading that the original season of 24 was only
commissioned to be 13 episodes and when it was a success and they asked for
the remaining 11 to be written, the writers had to scramble to think of how
to finish it! Rather put me off watching it to be honest...

Unless (And I'm very open to someone putting me straight here) I'm totally
reading it wrong, but this is completely the opposite angle! The central
question is Why are we doing this and Who, if anyone, is the good guy?
There are a number of referneces that suggest the masses are being told
the whole 'Good American Bad Muslim' line because the powers that be need
this in place (a sort of 21st Century religious suppression and control),
the internet has removed the need for suppression from above and
basically, left to their own devices, An Al Quida fighter can get on quite
famously with An All American hero if you chop out the brainwashing powers
that be.
I thought it was quite clever to be honest!

I think from then on they plotted in four-hour arcs. However, series one is
definitely worth watching as it's about Bauer's ingenuity; by series three he
can fly any aircraft and has an infinite bag of ammo...

You can understand the networks' desire to wring as much out of their hits as
possible - it's expensive to develop a new show and they might not work so
let's do THAT again... And as the show runner of Everybody Hates Chris once
said, If more people want to watch a still shot of a glass of water than your
programme, then say hello to The Glass Of Water Show.

We're housebound at the moment, with a two-week old daughter. So we've been
cracking through Game of Thrones, Mad Men, Alatraz and Grimm on TV, and Psych
and Burn Notice on DVD. I cannot in all honesty recommend any to the casual
viewer, but GoT is worth making the effort...

gripping. I never got through the first series and serious 2 is unopened on my
shelves. Free to good home if buyer (bauer) will collect.

After hearing many people rave about it, I finally took the plunge with 24 a
while back. I enjoyed Season 1, less so Season 2 and gave up on Season 3
after about 5 episodes.

Since others are giving their recommendations... of the current crop of US
dramas that we watch, the missus I quite enjoy Blue Bloods. Does nothing
you haven't seen before, but does it better than most. She enjoys G.C.B.
and Hart of Dixie as well. Not sure if they're on in the UK yet though. I
watch loads of US comedies too - for me, Modern Family continues to be the
pick of the bunch.

After getting through the books last autumn (and waiting for the next
volume with impatience - hope it's not years like the last one...) I'm not
sure if I could watch the telly series. I don't really like the books
overall but there are some likeable characters and you always want to know
what happens next, so I suppose it was made for telly really.

If you like the not-quite-reality fantasy novels I wholeheartedly recommend
Neal Stephenson's Baroque cycle which repays the effort of getting into the
books in the first place (takes about 500 pages or so ;))
