Subject: Time of life

In 2006 I bought a brand new Legacy 1200 with Z-axis upgrade, extra gear set,
rotary table, and a design kit.

At that point in time I also began my house rebuilding, so as a result, I
didn't put the LOM together.

Finally, in November of 2019 I assembled the machine.

I played around with it, but I discovered something strange. I have been a
hobbyist woodworker for decades and have a very good setup here. Over the years
I have purchased some very good machines and obtained a lot of good tools. But
somehow I lost the interest in the LOM and didn't have the desire to go through
the learning curve to know how to use it well. In addition, as a former CNC
machinist, I was somewhat disappointed in the stability of the machine.

Also, I have been really enjoying my basic machines, and I have been getting a
number of orders for the Murphy beds that I build.

The end result? Out of the blue someone contacted me and wondered if I still
had it. He saw Andy demo the machine way back in 2006 at a wood show in
Milwaukee (probably the same show I was at) and he has always wanted one. All
things aside, my wife and I talked it over and I decided to let it go to
someone who had a lot of interest in it and a real desire to use it as it
should be used.

With that being said, I will now bow out of this group and say my goodbyes.
Everyone, have fun with your machines and crank away!

I retired two years ago, got married a bit over a year ago, and am now
preparing to build a house in the Philippines so that we can spend three months
per year over there. And soon I may make a move across the country to be near
my daughter and three grandkids. (25, 21, and 11)

Take care everyone.

And you need 2 motors one on the leadscrew and one on the spindle to make the
legacy perfect.

Having a spindle motor as well gets better finishes on your work when turning .

I originally did not by a motor drive for my machine, I felt it was to

As you can see I did not mount my motor as Legacy did, (on the end of the acme
screw.) The main reason was this motor was almost free, and its size is to big
to fit on my Legacy, So I modified it . Its a 90 volt DC gear motor. 82-1 gear
ratio. max. speed is something like 40 rpm. (which is was faster than I will
ever use on my machine.) The gear's and chain are from an Audi timing chain (I
picked up second hand form my auto garage shop.) I made one limit switch. (not
shown) All the wire is Home Depot speaker wire.

As you can see, there are more than one way to do almost anything. and you
don't have to spend a lot of money to get the job done.

Talk to you more latter.

Thanks for the feedback Curt. I'm one of those folks with limited interest AND
ability in all things mechanical like you, so off-the-shelf is my world, I
guess. You have a gift that I'll never have! I'll call Legacy and maybe Stacy
or someone can provide the original drive motor supplier back in the day when
Legacy was producing the 1200/2000. Again, thanks for the great group feedback!

If I remember correctly, the same motor Legacy used can be gotten from WE
Grainger... the bracket you will have to make yourself... the limit switches
can probably also be gotten from Grainger... and you can put together the speed
control switch and override switch in a box, all should be available from
Grainger ... Joe B.
