To answer your question, about the 36 and 40 position indexing plates, One possible reason is for coping already made idioms, where the spacing of flutes or other details have to be more or less exact.to match an all ready made idiom. I personally have run into this problem in the past , doing side job work for people. By the way, if you or anyone in the group runs into this problem, Mike Pung has a gear indexing video on YouTube, He can match up almost any indexing needed with out the use of indexing plated, and counting all those little hole. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHgzEKnON-o By using the gears/pitches
Re: Index Plates
Thank you John for the explanation. You mention a coat rack...that's a timely mention to me in that since I moved to Oregon I have purchased a few coats - only owned one coat living in Florida. If I make a coat rack and screw it up,that's called making firewood...which I need plenty of here in Oregon. Thanks again, John, for your helpful reply. Best, Dewell On Apr 8, 2015 10:06 PM, John Sasinowski jesasinow...@gmail.com wrote: With each index plate comes the ability to evenly space all integer divisors (no remainder) of the number of positions. So, a 36-hole plate allows divisions 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 9, 12, 18, and 36. A 40-hole plate allows 1, 2, 4, 5, 8, 10, 20, and 40. Some of the divisions are available on multiple plates - in the case of this pair, 1, 2 and 4. Many are unique to one plate. Say you wanted to mill slots around the bottom of a coat-rack post to hold 5 legs evenly spaced. You could do that with the 40-hole plate, but not he 36-hole one. If you wanted to do a flat twisted column, neither of these plates will suffice - you'd need a plate with the number of holes being a multiple of 7: 7, 14, 21, 35, 49, etc. - John On Wed, Apr 8, 2015 at 9:40 PM Dewell Crews funk49...@gmail.com wrote: Can someone please tell me what I could possible make that would require the use of a 36 and/or 40 position index plate(s)? RE: What's with Legacy Ornamental Mills Headquarters?
Hi Tim, Thank you for your reply. I agree with everything you said. Insofar as the part I ordered, it was late in the day and the individual at Legacy informed me that it would go out the next morning. Haven't got it yet. I was fortunate enough to own a few businesses and one doesn't tell a customer that an item will ship tomorrow if it is not in stock. Period. I can only surmise that with the state of our national economy that sales are slow for the Anderson family business; I hope business picks up for them - they make a good product. I think they are doing the best they can. My problem in life is that I am very impatient. I'll just have to hurry up and wait. J Thank you for taking your time to send me an email. Hello Dewell, I don't think there is any way to Persuade them to do anything. Everything is on their time schedule. Calling them 10 times a week will not help, it will only piss them off, and that is understandable. Pre-paying does not change the time schedule. I'm afraid your only choice is to calmly wait. I can sympathize with you about being told one thing, and another thing happens. It's customer service 101. Sadly, my last order I was told two weeks, and it was two months. I did get what I asked for, but I'm glad I did not make any plans where I needed the parts. Compared to past experience of others, you should feel lucky that they even took your order. In the past, Legacy was refusing to sell to second hand owners ( they would not admit this publicly ) . In a live chat this year we where told that is not an issue and that anyone needing a part that owns a machine, they would be helped. I recall Andy saying it might be a lower priority when a small ($) order is placed and that was due to the high demand of helping the CNC owners who are really paying the bills at this time. -Tim - Original Message - From: Dewell mailto:funk...@verizon.net To: legacy-ornamental-mills@googlegroups.com Sent: Tuesday, August 13, 2013 1:26 AM Subject: What's with Legacy Ornamental Mills Headquarters? The best thing that I can say is to keep constant contact with them, and hopefully thay will come throught for you as quickly as thay can. There are some pretty sharp people here (over 200 strong members) Im sure if you run into a problem someone out that has already run into the same thing, Our goal is to shair info. so everyone learns and can grow in there wood working experances.
