Re : Re: old legacy videos

2011-08-26 Thread denis
Hi every one

I think the same way as Curtis for video of Legacy.

It is customer service. (Like Curtis say in New Yankee Workshop, Norm show
us how tool's work and what the tool can do and not to do.)
I remember the first time i saw the biscuit jointer in New Yankee Workshop .
I said to my self i need one of these.
but with legacy i feel i was let down. I am sure glade this group exist,
because I learn a lot even if there no video on the site, keep sending
picture.
1 picture = 1000 word's

Before they had CNC they were telling there machine would do every thing.
(They did offer some part for there machine.) Now the web site is almost
empty.

I know i do not write often enough to the group.
But as I said (I am sure glade this group exist)
Keep on the good work to all you guy's

2011-08-22 Thread CURTIS GEORGE
Hi guys
As Ive said I own a VHS/DVD burner, what you suggest to plug in both and just
copy works, but you need to be careful that method may or may not finialise the
copy properly, meaning the copy may work on the machine you burned it on, but
not others? I dont fully understand all the details, but I had that happen to
me before I bought my new system.and the manaul covers this topic in detail, so
Im guessing it is or was a problem in the past. As far as how long it takes,
this kind of copying has to be live time. Its not like burning a copy on the
computer.
I need to get to work now.

Re: old legacy videos

2011-08-21 Thread Bill Bulkeley
well if I was doing it I would play it on a video player and record it with
my dvd recorder
but curt has offered to do any old legacy stuff for anyone free of charge
just contact him .
or if you have a video player and a dvd recorder you could do it your self
just plug the video and audio leads into the dvd recorder instead of your TV
play the tape and hit record on the dvd recorder simple

Re: old legacy videos

2011-08-20 Thread Tim Krause
There's no market for the videos and plans or Legacy would be selling them.
Now, I'm not saying there is no interest in seeing videos and plans that where
made or could be in the future. I'm saying there are not enough paying
customers to support the endeavor. I remember a staff member of Legacy ( I'm
not going to name anyone) lamenting about the customers all want the videos and
magazines for free. I think it is still true today, but they shot themselves
in the foot when part of the sales pitch included free training. I don't
recall them ever promising how much, only free training is available in the
form of online content.

I've been exploring what it takes to make videos for online consumption. I've
invested in a cheap camera and some video editing software and a good
microphone. After playing around a little I can appreciate the effort that
goes into even a simple video that has decent audio and video. I'm skilled in
html and realize the time and effort it takes to post good thorough tutorials
take a lot of time. At the end of the day I wonder why would anyone take the
effort to do this type of sharing for free.

Again, this is why participation in this group is so important as a collective
brain. We can't rely on Legacy to provide anything new for the manual
machines. Andy builds equipment and we the users build goods from the tool, so
at any level, we are all experts at using the equipment. Videos and tutorials
make posting a project story and sharing some photos seem really quick and easy
and something everyone should do.

-Tim

PS. Considering nearly every member here owns a legacy product, you know we all
want to see everything!

Re: old legacy videos

2011-08-20 Thread CURTIS GEORGE
Hello Tim
Good point about the videos. But...? its like the chicken or the egg. If the
work was done, it could be condectered as advertiseing, That is money well
spent.
ShopSmith did the same mistake years back with the Yankee work shop. Norm used
the SS in all his first shows, but..Sadly SS did not want to sponcer him. Then
Porter Cable and all the other big supplyers jumped in on sponcership of his
show. Norms work brought many new people to wood working. I would think showing
these video to others would only help Legacy's sales. Its good advertiseing!
(also all the work has already been done! so Why not...?)

Its the stick and carrot, I want it! Now all that they have to do it to keep me
chasing there product. I would think it would be pretty easy. ;-P

Re: old legacy videos

2011-08-20 Thread SteveEJ
Anyone have the videos that came with the Revo? I bought mine used (no
longer made) and they were not included. I need to make some tapered
legs for a vanity stool. Any ideas here.. I do have a 900 Legacy
Standard CNC but it was used as well and no videos with it either. I
am learning the hard way with as I cannot see in my brain what the
GCode is doing (yet). The Revo is easier for me to see what it will be
doing before I make toothpicks..

Thanks,

Steve

Re: old legacy videos

2011-08-20 Thread Bill Bulkeley
if IM doing an unknown degree taper on the revo I find the length of the
taper I want and the difference in each end diameters
half that and place feeler gauges under the tool at the headstock end of the
taper slide down to the tail stock end and raise that end till it touches
the tool and I use that as a starting point to do the taper, then I take a
cut and check the taper and adjust as necessary
the good thing about the revo is there is only one screw to adjust the
height and taper makes it very easy to adjust I use a dial indicator for
fine adjustments

I don't know if there is any better way but this works for me
