RE: [LegacyUG] Fix the MissingSspace in Reports
Hi Jan, You just use Alt0160 but you need to use the numbers on the keypad and not the numbers above the letters. When you enter it you should see the cursor move along the line. Another work around - add [CR] - that's the code for a Carriage Return so that the Notes start on the next line. [LegacyUG] bfast.com
As some of you may already know Legacy uses bfast.com in order to track their program usage with some of their affiliates. I have several programs that I use for anti-spyware and for cleaning my registry, not to mention the safeguards in the browsers. Unfortunately one of my programs called Ccleaner has the option to allow you to either, allow, or not allow the cookies to be cleaned when activating the cleaner. I had not put bfast into the allow column, so it deleted the cookie that is needed in order for legacy to link directly to the websites that work with its cookie. Now I cannot find the cookie anywhere on my computer, nor do I know how to reinstall it. I have uninstalled legacy cleaned everything out of the directory with the exception of the data, Geo, and timeline files,- I also ran the registry cleaner to clean all files from the registry. I then reinstalled legacy, but it did not put the cookie back on the computer. Can anyone please tell me how I can install the bfast cookie for Legacy, so that I can get the associated links to work, as they should? Many thanks John D. RE: [LegacyUG] bfast.com
Yes Randy, you are correct. Nevertheless, when using the research center, quite a few of the links within the research center require the bfast cookie, and there is no way to rebuild those. I want those working because I like the checkboxes within the research center, which helps one keep track of what they have done already. It also saves me the extra steps of opening up another browser instead of using the one within Legacy. I just attempted to open my Legacy database and got a blank screen, then a pop-up message Run-time error 429; Active X component can't create object. Most of the menu items are grayed out when I pull up the program, but File, Internet, and Help are accessible. I tried File, Check/repair but the datatbase file won't load and gives me the run-time error message. I tried reloading the database from the zip file but that didn't work either. Re: [LegacyUG] Sources for narratives in notes
Diane, I use the MLA style of citing in-text sources. It's easy and will let the reader know which source goes with each part of your narrative. Here's a web page that gives examples: http://leo.stcloudstate.edu/research/mlaparen.html Debbie On 5/5/07, Diane Murach [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I want to write a biographical narrative for each ancestor in Notes. RE: [LegacyUG] Missing space in reports Spelling issues
I tried it and had the same problem. Next I saved an RTF Ancestor file to Word and opened it side by side with Llegacy. This is a LOT less convenient a way to fix the typos than if Legacy had a global spell-check capability. And, my 500+ page ancestor report is not all the people in the database. I'll be adding this to the future enhancement list. Open the GEDCOM in a word processing program, and then run spell check. You will have to say ignore all for the various tags (and some locations and names), but it should help you locate misspellings. You might try doing a GEDCOM export where you ONLY export notes (events, medical, general, etc.) Might save on wear-and-tear! Not a great solution, but just one work-around. Kay, You can always unsub from the list (if you don't tend to ask questions) and just look at the emails here: To find past messages, please go to our searchable archives at: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyfamilytree.com/ or you can search the archives for suggestions on sorting your emails into a folder to read them at your leisure, without cluttering up your inbox. Re: [LegacyUG] Missing space in reports Spelling issues
Ah - that is inconvenient! Did you try checking the box (under GEDCOM export) for changing the Customize option of Break note lines between words (old style)? The RTF suggestion is only good for certain segments of your database, not the whole thing, so that is why I didn't mention it, but if you are just preparing for one particular report, yes, that is a good idea, too. Re: [LegacyUG] Opening shared files from a family tree maker user
Hi Tracy, I would suggest sending the file to someone who has Family Tree Maker who could convert it to a GEDCOM for you. You need to know the version of FTM that was used to create the file as newer versions can read older versions but not the other way around. Maybe someone else on the list can help. regards Anne r - Original Message - From: Tracy Skegg To: LegacyUserGroup Sent: Sunday, May 06, 2007 11:07 AM Subject: [LegacyUG] Opening shared files from a family tree maker user Hi Listers I have received files directly from a family tree maker user, not in gedcom format.
