Re: [LegacyUG] Legacy Charting error

2008-07-13 Thread David Wilkinson
Well, after all this time waiting for the folks at Legacy to solve the
"problem", I think I may have solved it myself. Previously (months ago)
I had Googled the error message and came up with a great many hits. Many
involved a USB drive that had been removed or had the letter
re-assigned. I have some USB drives and I played with them trying to
stop the error. I had no luck. After I posted my original message below,
I Googled the error message again and found a result that I hadn't seen
before. This led me to try something I hadn't done before.

My HP printer has two slots for memory cards that show up as drives on
my PC. I don't ever use them so I went to Device Manager and disabled
them. Problem solved - so far. I still don't know why Legacy Charting
was the only program to cause the error to appear.

Anyway, if you have a problem like the one described below try playing
with any USB drives and don't forget the memory card slots.

Happy Hunting,
David

Do you use ZoneAlarm Firewall? There is a known problem with M$'s last
update hosing ZoneAlarm and
causing problems accessing the internet. ZoneAlarm has an update patch on
it's website to fix M$'s

By adding people I meant something like increasing the number of
generations being displayed or switching to a parent or spouse as the
primary person. This would cause the need to add different people to the
chart.

I don't think you can simply insert an individual.

Cary,

I know that this isn't much help, but I've run an ancestry report with all
generations (11,000 people) and had no problem. I, too, have a number of
sources with the detail text of the document from v.6, but had no problems.

Could you try to do File Maintenance|Check and repair, perhaps also do a
Master List clean-up. Perhaps this may help.

ALL of them are in the Bibliography. That's created by Legacy and there is

The first instance is in the listing for a web site where the source text
includes the entire text of several gravestone epitaphs. Once that hit the
bottom of a page, each line after that is on a separate page. Why would a
bibliography include source text or comments anyway? The point of a
bibliography is to be a LIST only. The paging problem did NOT occur on the
same source in Source Citations.

I also noted that the Bibliography continued below the page number and into
the margin on another page rather than have a page break in that source. So
the pagination is off both in NOT making a break in mid notes in one case
and in breaking after every line in another. I suspect the base problem is
including Source text (which is long in some cases) in the Bibliography at
all.

I think this is a bug.

Cary,
I do know the kind of problem you're talking about. I had this same
issue. Doing the File Maintenance/Check and repair seems to have
cleared it up for me. I'd be interested to know if it works for you.
My report was hundreds of pages because of the problem with the
Bibliography. Now I can print a Descendant Narrative report for the
same ancestor, including the Bibliography that is only 57 pages long.

Cary:

If the bug is connected to generation of the bibliography, then wouldn't it
show up in conjunction with *all* bibliographic entries? This is grasping
at straws, but have you tried a *Descendant* Book Report to see if you get
the same result and/or producing an Ancestor Book Report with fewer
generations that don't include the troublesome source citation? I have a
source citation created in v.6 that contains 30 lines of detail text but I
don't see it causing any problems in the bibliography.

(Not casting any doubts on your results here, just trying to narrow down the
problem and/or find a workaround.)

RE: [LegacyUG] Issue with Bibliography - V7

2008-07-13 Thread Cary
I'm desperate, so I tried to do this, BUT - None of the funky one line pages
are in the reports or the Source Citations where I could change something.
ALL of them are in the Bibliography. That's created by Legacy and there is
no place for me to delete spaces etc.

I also found that I had end-of-line, and end-of-page
stuck in the dumbest places. Print exactly one page
that has the big space. Then find the place you typed
that info. Go to the last line of the typing. After
the last period, delete the next space. There may be a
next-line or next-page thing hiding there. If so, all
you need do is delete all the 'extra blanks'. It took
me two weeks.

And your message did the same thing! Or are you better than other
subscribers? I can't question the list rules but you can tell be to shut
up? If you don't like my messages then ignore or delete them. You
know,

just like you all expect the hundreds of subscribers to do with your
off-topic and rule violating posts.

Dave, your messages only serve to add to the voluime of off-topic
messages.

Let the Legacy staff police the joint.

And 12 messages after Sherry/Support warned about staying on topic we get
another thread started that has absolutely nothing to do with Legacy.
Are
the list rules really that hard to understand?

Subject: [LegacyUG] Identifying a source

I have an old certified copy of a birth certificate that the County Clerk
used a now obsolete form of copying that produced a negative image. I
have

manipulated the scanned image to make a positive image, but I have
forgotten

what the original negative image/process was called.

I would like to identify what the proper name of the piece of paper was
called. The certified copy was produced in 1958.

Anybodies memory that good?
