Re: [LegacyUG] duplicates
I accidently today added 3 people who were in my DB already. When I checked the name list for the next person, saw the mistake. Two of them now have new AKA's and the sources went well. It took ten minutes to find and do the merge. An old program (will remain nameless) would go in and find same named siblings 'with birth years only' and kept asking me 'should they be merged'?, with no tool like potential problems check offs, to tell the computer, never show these again. That was in the 1990s, but I will never trust the computer to 'find' them. RE: [LegacyUG] duplicates
Elizabeth: In my old version of FTM, you fill in a name field and perhaps a date of birth, then a dialog box pops up asking "Is this the same person as John Jones b 15 Jan 1880?" In a database with 5,000 entries the response is instantaneous. Of course to get results you'd have to enter exactly the same data for both; listing "abt 1880" for one and an exact date for the other wouldn't trigger the duplicate warning. Like others, I also found it to be a very handy feature--but not handy enough to switch back to FTM. Re: [LegacyUG] Pedigree Chart- picture size
Sybil and Ron I have no problems... Picture is large enough and under report options,,choosing small medium and large makes a difference. Maybe delete appropriate usr file and try again.. Firstly I can confirm that I also have a very small picture, in my case in position No. 2 which, as I started with myself is my father. I know that the picture is big enough and I have checked using both a bmp and jpg picture and it makes no difference , so presumably it it not related to the extension. Looks like you should report it as a bug. What puzzles me is that on the Picture Option Screen it does say that the resizing etc on the right is not available, nor do they seem to work, but they are not greyed out. FTM also did such a check which I found very useful. Didn't slow anything down. With over 17000 people, this feature would be very beneficial to me. Just my 2 cents. [LegacyUG] Pedigree Chart- picture size
I'm trying to make a Pedigree Chart from Version 7 for a family member. All of the pictures are about the size expected except for one. I've deleted it, closed out Legacy and resized the picture with a photo program several ways and then added it to Legacy again. It continues to be very tiny on the report. The corresponding grandparent picture size is 430x600 110KB, the one that shows up so tiny and that I've tried several combination sizes is size: 400x541 244KB on my last try to make the report. I've tried several report options on the Pictures Tab, nothing seems to help. I would appreciate your suggestions. [LegacyUG] Legacy7
Hello Fellow Users, Just a question from a new user of legacy. I ordered Version7 from my local supplier here in Australia. Because it was so long in arriving, I downloaded the trial version which by the way I love, and have been using. Today I pick up the Deluxe version,[hurray] and wish to know if I should uninstall the trial version before installing Deluxe? By the way I have enjoyed reading your problems and tips and have saved many of them for later reference. I recently converted a Legacy 6.0 file to Legacy 7.0 and enthusiastically began using the new Source Writer tool. After a bit, I realized that the source citations using 7.0 would not export correctly to a GEDCOM 5.5 file (a different issue - details too complicated to explain here). So I set my customization option to always use the basic source system, then recreated the master sources that had been created using Source Writer and deleted the Source Writer generated sources. In an individual's record, I cited the newly created (basic source system) Master source, then added detail appropriate to the record. So far, so good. However, when I reviewed the source list for all individuals using that source, the detail field was incorrect - sort of. In the source citation listing for an individual, the detail column shows the correct information, but the Output section of the screen, showing footnote and reference output to be printed is incorrect and does not correspond to what's in the detail column. To make matters worse, the source detail that is exported to a GEDCOM from Legacy is the Output detail, not the information contained in the detail column. (My client is using FTM 16 and won't move to Legacy but I prefer Legacy for data cleaning.) When exported to FTM using the GEDCOM 5.5 settings in Legacy, source detail is totally fubar (See example 4 in the .pdf I've attached to make this all clearer.) Any thoughts would be appreciated. I don't want to go forward using Legacy 7.0 for my data cleaning if I can't export back to FTM via GEDCOM, and I can't do what I want to in FTM both 16 and 2008(ugh!). Thanks for your help. Re: [LegacyUG] Legacy Tip: Marking Your Direct Line
I think the only way to do this is to use tags and export to a new legacy family file. Tag direct line with tag 1 (or other #). Start with the starting person and tag him, go to his father and tag, go to the grandfather and tag etc. until you reach the oldest generation. Don't tag anyone else. This can be done in a few seconds. Export to a new legacy file and select All records with an individual tag of 1 (or other # you selected) and check Export all Spouses of tagged individuals, Export all Children of tagged individuals and Export all Parents of tagged individuals. Now you have a file with only the direct line descendants in a new legacy file. Make a descendants report in this new file. I have never seen such of a problem. Are you telling me that your computer went from 2874 to over 7000 indivuals, and 3435 families to 10044 ? Can you give me step by step details how you upgraded to version 7 ? It really sounds suspicious it happened after upgrading to v7, then the next paragraph you say it is when you said quote "These names appeared after I downloaded the "full" version of Charting several weeks ago" Which is it ? Re: [LegacyUG] Unknown names and famjles ???
I hate to say it but it is almost certainly something you did, whether you intended to or not. Or someone else has access to your computer and imported a file. The cause is less important than what to do now. If you haven't added any names manually, and if you have made minimal other changes, the simplest fix is to restore from a backup file created before those names appeared. [LegacyUG] Marriage Notes in Descendant Report
The answer to this question is probably obvious, but I can't figure it out. Why is it that, in setting up a descendant report, the marriage notes start on a new page (instead of continuing on the same page)? _ Legacy User Group guidelines: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp Archived messages: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyfamilytree.com/ Online technical support: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Help.asp To unsubscribe: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/LegacyLists.asp

[EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: The information about the Double Angle Brackets at the end of the Husband or Wife label said that it means that person has excluded potential problems selected. Could someone explain what is meant by "excluded potential problems?" Basically, at some stage, that person showed up on the Potential Problems Report for one or more reasons. Legacy provides the option to tell the program not to report the person again for one or other of the reasons that originally caused to name to be reported. When this has happened, the program indicates the fact with this particular symbol. For example, the date of birth of a child might be prior to the date of the marriage of the parents. Legacy will normally flag this event on the Potential Problems Report. If the dates are actually 100% correct, you can prevent the event from ever being reported again. See the online help for more information about the Potential Problems Report. -- Regards, Mike Fry Johannesburg. Re: [LegacyUG] Source detail craziness
Thanks for the update Geoff! And thanks for all the hard work behind the scenes that we don't see. I know that when these issues are resolved, Legacy will have *the only* genealogy software product out there that offers EE-style templates AND the ability to create dynamic webpages with the output formatted in the same way as viewed in the Legacy program. This will be a tremendous selling point to those on the APG list and in the professional community (not that I am a member, but I do care about my sources to an insane degree!). Thanks again and best of luck in testing and a release when everything is ready. I remain confident that this is going to be great!!!
