 Sherry,

All this talk on the LUG list about files in the Legacy folder caused me to
take a look at my Legacy folder and I found the following list as well as 254
*.log files with names of various family files that I have worked on, but are

Phil,
I was a bit distressed after 8 days with no install file also.
Are you using Vista SP1?
I guess you have tried updating Legacy. Did you get error; 'file
apdproxy.exe cannot open because ConnAPI.DLL not found' which I was
getting at the time.
I have no idea what they are but they seem to be connected to Windows
Installer or the download procedure.
My thinking was; that if the new version was interrogating the system before

installing and finding it lacking then I would remove any sign of Legacy and

start afresh.
Which worked.

For the uninstall problem:

With Legacy closed, go to the c:\Legacy folder on your hard drive. Delete
the install.log file. Then go to the c:\Legacy\Backup folder and delete any
files there with the word install in the file name.

Reinstall Legacy with the latest build from our website and you should have

Charles,

I have been in touch with Phil off-list regarding his problem. May I make it
clear, to those who do not know, that the Legacy files (or those of any other
program for that matter) should not be deleted without either a) uninstalling
first, or b) manually changing the Registry entries.

None of them. Well, I take that back - you could delete the Uninstall Legacy

The rest are usr files, translation files, Research Guidance pages, etc. If

2009-03-13 Thread Sherry/Support
Ron,

The only backup error we know of that's caused by problems with a DLL file
is error 530, The license key required to use the control was not found or
is invalid.

Somehow the XceedZip.dll file has been removed or corrupted.

That is easily solved by reinstalling Legacy.

Reinstalling hasn't helped with Error 91.

Thanks for using Legacy.

others, whether it could apply in this case I don't know. However, is it
possible that another program has wrongly changed a shared/common dll eg.
those in the Windows folders?

The solution for Error 91 on our website solves this error 99.9% of the

what’s causing that error with backups and can’t offer a solution at this

Ann,

I'm still getting the error.  It is so odd.  Sometimes I have done as
Support suggested and exported to a new file.  That is SUPPOSED to eliminate
the problem.  I did nothing to the new file except a BackUp.  Fine.  Then
immediately tried to back it up again, and BINGO, Error 91!

I have used check/repair more than 20 times on several occasions.  Again,
Error 91.

Each time I create a new file, there are also several other files created to
go with that new file.  I have so many files now that I can't believe it!
I'm sure half of the files in my Legacy folder are from old, Error 91ed
files.

Once I get an Error 91, I have NEVER had it go away, as I said above, EVEN
when I have tried to back up the brand new file!  I give up!  What a bummer!

Would it help if those experiencing a problem that you have been unable to

For the uninstall problem:

With Legacy closed, go to the c:\Legacy folder on your hard drive. Delete
the install.log file. Then go to the c:\Legacy\Backup folder and delete any
files there with the word install in the file name.

Reinstall Legacy with the latest build from our website and you should have

RE: [LegacyUG] Files in Legacy folder

2009-03-13 Thread Sherry/Support
Definitely not! There are log files that are required, such as the Install.log
file.

I wouldn't do a blanket statement on deleting .log files as they are created
for multiple reasons. They can be read in Notepad to verify what they contain.

The LegError.log is a cumulative report of error messages received in Legacy,
such as Error 3021. May or may not be useful. Should be useful if a person
neglects to write down the error messages.

IGIErrorLog.txt is a log file of errors encountered while running the IGI
search.

A .log file with the name of a Family File reports on problems with a gedcom
import.

Error.log is a report on check/repair problems.

Sherry,

I agree that if it was one of your own dlls causing the problem then when one
reinstalls it will be corrected.

However, it is not unknown for some badly written programs to wrongly overwrite
a system dll, which would not be corrected be reinstalling Legacy. I was just
wondering if this, or similar, could be the cause.

[LegacyUG] Questions about Legacy Register style reporting

2009-03-13 Thread GeneJ (GM)
I'm a TMG user, working to learn if my larger project might find a home in
Legacy.

Register Reporting:

I ran a Descendant Book report from the sample file this morning,
Descendants of Asa Clark Brown. Actually, believe I ran a few of these
using both Register and Modified Register format.

In Options for Descendant BooksInclude tab: the option for other parents
is turned off. Is there a secret to making this option available for the
Register/Modified Register report?

Said another way, where the report now reads as (a) below, I'd like it to
read as (b) below.

(a) Asa next married Eleanor Huffman .. on 8 Mar 1832 in Tionesta, Venango,
Pennsylvania, USA. Eleanor was born on 11 Jan 1803 in Kingston, Frontenac,
Ontario, Canada and died on 3 Jun 1874 in Saint Cloud, Stearns, Minnesota,
USA.

(b) Asa next married Eleanor Huffman .. on 8 Mar 1832 in Tionesta,
Venango, Pennsylvania, USA. Eleanor was born on 11 Jan 1803 in Kingston,
Frontenac, Ontario, Canada and died on 3 Jun 1874 in Saint Cloud, Stearns,
Minnesota, USA, daughter of John Huffman and Molly Smith.

Thank you for any assistance you are able to provide. --GJ

RE: [LegacyUG] Files in Legacy folder

2009-03-13 Thread Sherry/Support
Pests keep me on my toes rbg

But that was a very good question, Tim, because too many people delete files
without knowing what they're for or what will happen if they're deleted. Some
users have actually deleted the install.log file, thinking it wasn't necessary
since the program was installed.

Also, they've deleted usr files, trying to clean up their folders, and then
wonder why their settings changed!

Thanks for using Legacy.

The LegError.log is a cumulative report of error messages received in Legacy,

IGIErrorLog.txt is a log file of errors encountered while running the IGI

 Sherry,
Could not the user delete all the .log files ? Are they not created when
items do not fit into the gedcom tag standard ? The only feature to
that log is to utilize them into the correct the items in that gedcom
import file to go back and fix those errors the log created ? The user
does have 254* .log files. That is a _lot_ of checking.
 As usual, correct me.

For the uninstall problem:

With Legacy closed, go to the c:\Legacy folder on your hard drive. Delete
the install.log file. Then go to the c:\Legacy\Backup folder and delete any
files there with the word install in the file name.

Reinstall Legacy with the latest build from our website and you should have
no problem uninstalling.

Once I get an Error 91, I have NEVER had it go away, as I said above, EVEN

RE: [LegacyUG] Questions about Legacy Register style reporting

2009-03-13 Thread GeneJ (GM)
Hi Mary:

Thank you for responding to my inquiry.

You wrote: I can't see any difference in the settings

Okay . trying this with a new file. Options for Descendant
BooksIncludeleft column, other parents also can't be selected; however,
as is the your case, when I print from this new file, the spouse's parents'
names do report.

After posting my inquiry, I found at least one reference to odd behavior in
book styled reports. Didn't post further because of the date, and I didn't
see an ultimate explanation.-Some said that if they close their file and
then reopen, the information appears in the report but they note no change
in behavior on the options screens.

See the thread: Printing Report Question - parents of spouse, May 2008

http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyfamilytree.com/msg23570.ht

Perhaps this will ring a bell for you or someone else.

Does anyone know if one should be able to select or de-select setting in
Options for Descendant BooksIncludeleft column, other parents ???

In the alternative, can anyone confirm that if it is not a selectable
option that the names of spouse's parents should, by default print?

Thank you again for your assistance, Mary -GJ.

Gene,

I don't know why the sample file omits the daughter of so and so. Mine
does the same thing, yet my personal files do insert the daughter of so and
so? I can't see any difference in the settings so I don't understand why the
sample file omits it? This is a bit strange.

Mary

Subject: [LegacyUG] Questions about Legacy Register style reporting

--GJ

I think the lack of parents for Eleanor Huffman may be because the have been
marked as Private. Check John Huffman and Mary Smith's individual
information screens and look for the privacy settings, lower left. Or check
the Descendant narrative report for Eleanor.
