RE: [LegacyUG] Surname formatting part II
By the way, just as a matter of information, Michele's discovery is exactly how my Dad's nickname, Red, got in the surname field. His nickname was in my FTM as an AKA. When I imported from FTM, all given name AKA's were put in the surname field. Mystery solved. [Then, I had to apply the lesson that even though I corrected each individual file, once entered into a surname field, the master list of surnames would still have it, until deleted from the master list.] Barbara -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Michele Lewis Sent: Thursday, November 22, 2007 5:59 PM To: legacy E-Mail List Subject: [LegacyUG] Surname formatting part II I am going through the master list of surnames and correcting the formatting as it was suggested and it is working very well but in the process I have found an interesting glitch. Apparently when I imported my FTM file all AKAs were automatically put in the surname space! So, when added only a first name AKA in FTM (like Polly) it transferred over to the surname spot. I wouldn't have readily noticed this if it weren't for me reformatting my surnames take out the all caps. Very interesting! Barbara: The way that I do most of my Nicknames is as follows: First & middle name: Leroy Ervin Last name: Chapman Nickname: Roy My data entry is: First & middle name: Leroy "Roy" Ervin Last Name: Chapman There is an option in reports under the format tab in descendant reports to Use quoted names for narratives. Legacy will then use the full name once and then use the quoted name there after in your report Hope this helps. Chap. Re: [LegacyUG] Surname formatting part II - SOLUTION
Hi all, I also just recently transferred over to Legacy from FTM but had no problem at all with AKAs.They were all slotted in the right spot following importation through GEDCOM.Perhaps you didn't have the AKAs recorded in the right place in FTM. They should have been placed in the Lineage / Adopt section as there was a specific spot for AKAs (nicknames) in that section. As far as where to place them in Legacy, I believe if you bring up the Family image page you will find a display of icons just below the persons name. Select the one with 3 heads. Hope this helps. I tried adding a nickname event so I could control the words but that prints under "Noted events in his life were:" which seems a little stiff for a nickname. [LegacyUG] Surname formatting part II
I am going through the master list of surnames and correcting the formatting as it was suggested and it is working very well but in the process I have found an interesting glitch. So, I am fixing both issues at the same time. michele Give Legacy as a Gift for 25% Off.
