Dennis, no I hadn't searched the archives. Good idea. I did so, and found that 
there was no resolution to the problem other than that Fred Trail submitted a 
bug fix request in January 2009.

I have double-checked my installation of Legacy. It is in C:\Legacy\ and the 
About Legacy in 'Help' indicates Deluxe version (which I just upgraded to 
about a week ago.)

I went to look in the Legacy folder on my C: drive, and there are the 
subfolders for C:\Legacy\Forms and C:\Legacy\Interview. Within each subfolder 
are numerous files, so everything is there.

The problem is that when you click on the Forms Center or Interview 
Questions buttons, they blink a bit but do nothing. I tried approaching these 
2 buttons both from the Reports Icon on the menubar -'Books/Other' Tab; also 
from the Reports drop-down menu on the very top menubar -Select a Report 
-'Books/Other' Tab. No matter how I approach the 2 buttons, they blink but 
fail to open another screen.

Maybe the Millenia people will see if the bug fix that Fred Trail submitted in 
January 2009 has been worked on. I continued reading the archives back in time, 
and finally quit around 2007 -- not much use in reading the same thing over  
over on older versions of Legacy. No one has ever resolved the problem, to my 
knowledge.

Maybe others with Vista x64 will chime in and let me know if they are 
experiencing the same problem.

Marilyn, I have Vista - 64-bit and I am able to access both with no problem. 
I accessed both out of BOOKS / OTHER.

You are correct in saying that this bug has affected a number of people. 
Unfortunately it appears to be one of those which is not reproducible.
 
For me it works OK and I have not been able to break it. I understand that this 
is also the problem which Legacy has. As this type of bug is the absolute worst 
to isolate and rectify, I doubt if there will be an early resolution.

I had a similar problem; however, I got an error message.  What I did
is to copy the mscmctl.ocx file from my laptop (same O/S, XP) and that
solved my problem.  Sherry said that must have given me a newer
version of mscmctl.ocx.

Tom,

I just tried to uninstall my Legacy7 Deluxe so I could re-install it in hopes 
of fixing the Vista x64 problem with the Reports function, and it won't 
uninstall.

The first time I tried to uninstall, I used Windows uninstall thru the 
Control panel. I got a message saying it might not have uninstalled properly, 
with a reference to something called UNWISE. 

I then found an Uninstall shortcut in the Legacy folder, tried again, and now I 
get an error message Could not open INSTALL.LOG file. 

If this is a Windows problem, I apologize in advance for asking about it here. 
Would it be OK just to download and install a whole new Legacy7 Deluxe on top 
of what's there now, since I cannot uninstall the program?

Bert, I cannot get any screen to open after clicking the Forms Center button. 
The buttons do not work at all for me, so I never get to see the next screen, 
where, presumably, there is a Browse button.

First off, you should always try the uninstall program that comes with a 
program first.  Windows uninstaller will first off delete the 
install.log.  Then when it fails to uninstall you are out of luck.


You may install over the top of what is left, however you will probably 
have to do another uninstall using the programs uninstall feature to 
completely clean the bits and pieces.  You may get lucky on this one, 
but be prepared.

I had a similar problem; however, I got an error message.  What I did
is to copy the mscmctl.ocx file from my laptop (same O/S, XP) and that
solved my problem.  Sherry said that must have given me a newer
version of mscmctl.ocx.

I saw it once on my new 64-bit Vista laptop.  But just as suddenly as I was
unable to access these two reports, they showed back up again.

I have not seen it on my 32-bit Vista PC, which I use *all* the time.

I had made no changes other than Windows Updates.

Unfortunately it appears to be one of those which is not reproducible.
 
For me it works OK and I have not been able to break it. I understand that
this is also the problem which Legacy has. As this type of bug is the
absolute worst to isolate and rectify, I doubt if there will be an early
resolution.

With Legacy closed, go to the c:\Legacy folder on your hard drive. Delete
the install.log file.  Then go to the c:\Legacy\Backup folder and delete any
files there with the word install in the file name.

Reinstall Legacy with the latest build from our website and you should have
no problem uninstalling.

But I don't think uninstalling and reinstalling will solve the problem with
the two reports not working.  It hasn't been effective in the past.

I am using XP. And that is what happening to me- it doesn't work, and 
it does.  And no changes other than Legacy updates, Windows updates, 
AVG updates, and the installation of  a compiler for a programming language.


I understand Ken's frustration in locating the problem to this, but 
-usually- if I wait a few minutes, I can get it to work on its own.

Several years ago, the Generations  program (now defunct) developed what we 
called the disappearing data  syndrome.  I won't go into all the details, 
but the cause was eventually  traced to conflicts between Generations and 
some programs' drivers.  (You  can go to

and select  programs interactions with Generations for more details.)

The only way  to determine the problematic programs was to go into 
Selective Startup Mode,  deselect all but the most critical Windows components, 
and 
then reselect the  deselected programs one-by-one, and test Generations 
after each re-selection to  see if the problem reappeared.

Given the apparent randomness of this  reports problem and the difficulty 
trying to replicate it, could the issue have  a similar root cause, i.e., 
unknown drivers conflicts between Legacy and certain  other programs?

To uninstall try as follows:
 
Install the full Legacy program on top of your current program.
Uninstall from the Legacy program itself - double click UNWISE.EXE.
 
Now do a fresh install
 
I know of no evidence to suggest that reinstalling will resolve your access 
problem to those two files though, however, now you have started I do recommend 
that you do complete the uninstall/reinstall.

Anyone else having problems with 'Change the User interface colors'
under OptionsCustomize ??

  I never encountered this before the last update.

  It worked one time and now it isn't. Now it just freezes the whole 
program.

I am using XP. And that is what happening to me- it doesn't work, and it 
does.  And no changes other than Legacy updates, Windows updates, AVG 
updates, and the installation of  a compiler for a programming language.


I understand Ken's frustration in locating the problem to this, 
but -usually- if I wait a few minutes, I can get it to work on its own.

You are correct in saying that this bug has affected a number of people.
Unfortunately it appears to be one of those which is not reproducible.

For me it works OK and I have not been able to break it. I understand that
this is also the problem which Legacy has. As this type of bug is the
absolute worst to isolate and rectify, I doubt if there will be an early
resolution.

We've asked about several things to see if we could find a common thread.
So far, no luck. Besides which version of Windows they're running, we've
asked what they might have installed, uninstalled, changed, etc and many
times, they hadn't done anything.  That's the way it was with me - I had
installed Legacy on my new 64-bit Vista laptop and it was working fine, then
it wasn't.  Then it was.  The only changes I had made were Windows updates,
but I know a lot of people have done Windows updates and not had any problem
with those two reports.

There are just so many variables out there in the real world.  I wouldn't
feel comfortable asking the average user to do what you're suggesting, only
someone who is really comfortable with their computer and Windows.

Years ago, we had a couple of people report a random problem with Legacy and
one of them accidentally discovered it was due to Weather Bug - when they
uninstalled the program, the problem went away.

Even if you log on to the *real* administrator account? One would think 
there must be some way a user or IT person can replace a corrupted system 
file. Perhaps in Safe Mode?

You can't do that on a Vista computer. It protects the Windows System 
files

from changes by the user.

I had a similar problem; however, I got an error message.  What I did
is to copy the mscmctl.ocx file from my laptop (same O/S, XP) and that
solved my problem.  Sherry said that must have given me a newer
version of mscmctl.ocx.
