Tom,
I do not have the knowledge to help solve your mysteries, but if I have any
problem with any record, I find it interesting to see the date when the
individual was added, marriage added and when modified. Might help to see if
the record was imported, or if all problem records were modified or added on
the same date and time.

  Ron,

Thanks for your thoughts. I have the other two mysteries solved. One
involved a marrage to an unknown ((that never happened) and the other
involved a previous marriage and children assigned to the wrong husband.
  Don't know how that happened,

  Tom,

Good to see it's getting sorted. It's quite easy to get a ghost marriage eg.
if a child is imcorrectly given to a woman, and then unlinked or deleted to
correct the error, the "marriage" to an unknown also needs to be deleted.

I am not clear about the two you have left. Do you have the maiden names for
both and if so are they also included in the index as well as their married
names? If so it would appear that you have ghost marriages for these also.
Have you checked to see how many husbands they have, both in the marriage
list and indicated on the spouse icon in Family View?

It may also be worthwhile having a look to see what happens if you turn off
  the show married names.

I don't know how it occurred, but I solved the problem of the unamrried
people who were appearing in the Surname Unknown section. I thought I'd
take
a look at the Family Group Sheet for these six people. The unmarried
people

each had an MRIN showing even theough they were not and never had been
married. I went to the MRIN list and deleted that MRIN. The Surname Uknown
section is now down to two names. Both thse people are married but I don't
dare delete the MRIN and don't see that the MRIN is a duplicate.

Any ideas?

Tom,

I cannot tell. What were your index settings? Is there any connection
between your sister and Anderson eg AKA, married name, step father etc.
etc.

even in error (no offence to your family meant btw. just options)?

I cannot offer an explanation as to why the first and second run were
different, but sometimes things do seem to stick a bit and check/repair or
closing/reopening can sort of bump start it.

Continuing to work with the Publishing Center's book feature, I just
printed
out Name Index for my major family.

The first time one (1) name was shown at the beginning of the list in the
(No surname) section. It was an "aka" name and I went to the proper place
and fixed that.

I re-ran and printed the Name Index. This time there were six (6) names
listed in the (No Surname) section at the beginning of the index. I
wondered
why those six names weren't there the first time. I checked the
Individual

Information Screen for each of the six but didn't see a problem.

I also noticed that the Name Index was longer the 2nd time I ran the
report.
There were more people under several of the Surname headings then there
had
been the first time. I'll mention one instance - The2nd time my sister
was

included under Anderson as "Shirley Lou (Herson) (1928- )." She was not
in the first printing, nor were several others, although she should have
been. I made NO changes to the settings between the first and 2nd
printing

of the report.

I did the File Maintainence/Check Report thing and the 3rd printing was
the
same as the 2nd with six individual showing under the (No Surname)
section

of the Name Index for no apparent reason.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this? I've submitted this as a Problem
Report. It would be nice to try something in the Publishing Center that
didn't disclose a problem ;-)

Re: [LegacyUG] Problems with Name Index in Book

2008-08-22 Thread Thomas Herson

Ron,

Anderson was my sister's married name so her entry is correct but just
wasn't included the first time around. I mentioned that and similar
occurance just to point out that there were differences between the first
and scond printings (on screen).

The real problem is with those six listed in the No Surname section. Five
were never married and one was married. In the Name Index all six have their
maiden names in parentheses following their given name.

The index settings in the publishing center for this book are:

Birth and Death Years on Names
 Include Alternate Names
 Include married names for wives

It's really troublesome when obvious unexplained errors like this happen
because it makes one wonder how many not so obvious errors occur.
