Locations/options/print/location list. Locations are numbered: go to
last page of preview and read the last entry.

This will take, at the current state of delay, 24 hours or more to hit
the list; if it is redundant by that time, my apologies.

Dede, since cemeteries and churches, etc. are used by more than one person,
generally, it doesn't add tremendously to the Master Location list (although
I do have 1401 locations, so maybe it does). So then you can place the pin
for that cemetery and church more specifically. I wouldn't do residences,
but that is a personal preference.

Re: [LegacyUG] Ver 7 mapping and push pins

2008-06-09 Thread MICHELLE CROSBY
I finally figured this out- you need to access the mapping from the master
list- find the location that you want to correct, then you can check to show
people that are linked to the location, and then check to show the map. Once
the map is shown, then you need to find the location on the map that you want
to place the pin correctly. It is then that you right click the correct
location and it will ask you
if you want to reassign ( or something to that affect) say yes and the pin
moves to the new and correct location on the map. I have
done this and it works.

2008-06-09 Thread GeoSci
One more time - you need to be in the VIEW - MASTER - LOCATION list -
with Maps checked -- OR Family View - click on maps then click
RESTORE. If the pin is in the wrong place - move the map until you
have the correct space - put your cursor on that spot and right click
- you will get a box asking if you want to move the location - answer
OK (or yes). That should do it.

Please check the archives for the group - this has been answered over
a dozen times!

Move your cursor to where you want the pin - THEN right click and it
will ask if you want to move the pin! This only works on the Master
List - Location screen - or after you click the RESOLVE in Family
View. DO NOT TRY TO DRAG THE PIN - it does not work.

Hi Jennifer,
The right click only works in the Master Location list. Highlight the
location you want to change in the list when you are Mapping a
Person/Family and then click the Resolve button. This will open your
Master Location list at that location and you can fix the pin with a
Right Click then close the Master Location list to return to where you were.

No problem with doing it in Australia or any where else in the world.
You are right that the resolution of the maps is very poor for many
parts of Australia - worse than Google Earth in Western Australia.
However, I guess this will improve over time - that's a VE thing. The
only Birds Eye views I've seen in Australia are around the Sydney
Opera House and harbour. Very pretty but not much use for my family history.

I did it the old fashion way, 22 per screen and 253 scrolls = 5566 minus
possible mistakes use 5500 as a working number (saw some mistakes). It would be
nice if the total showed up somewhere on a screen.

Dede,

This obviously has not been made clear enough. One cannot move the pin by
dragging. Dragging moves the map.

Re: [LegacyUG] Ver 7 mapping and push pins

2008-06-08 Thread GeoSci
To move a Pin - you need to click RESOLVE (if from Family View) or
find the location in the Master Location list. Then move the MAP (not
the pin) to where you want the pint to be and THEN right click. It
will ask if you want to move it. Works for me!

2008-06-08 Thread music-line
Sorry for jumping in, but I had the same problem. You don't drag it. You
right click on the map at the point where you want the marker. If my memory
serves me correct, when you have released the mouse click a grey box
appears, asking you if you want to change the location (or something
similar). Click 'yes' and the marker moves. Hope I've given you the right
info.

Best wishes

No, you can not drag the push pin. You will only move the map around. Find the location that you
want the pin to be, right click in that location and answer yes to the question in the pop up box.

RE: [LegacyUG] Ver 7 mapping and push pins

2008-06-08 Thread Cathy

If you're viewing the map in the Master Location List then after
selecting the location name, right-click and release it on the map
where you want the pin placed -- no dragging.

If you're viewing the map for an individual then you need to first
click the Resolve button to take you to the Master Location List.

Hope this helps.

Hello,

I've tried right clicking and dragging the push pin as suggested and I've
right clicked on a location and it doesn't do anything. I think something
is wrong because I can't download 3-D mapping either.

Re: [LegacyUG] Ver 7 mapping and push pins

2008-06-07 Thread GeoSci
If you click on the map and drag - that moves the center focus point
on the map. To move a pin - go to View - Master Lists - Location and
find the one you want to move. On that map - navigate to where you
want the pin to be - right click and answer OK to the question and the
pin will move to the new location.

Enjoy!

Hi Jennifer,
I am also in Australia and have been able to use the Mapping feature. When
I right click on the position that I want the pin to go I get a message
Would you like to set the lat/long to the right clicked location? Click ok
and the pin is set. (this is from the master location list not from an

They only thing I have found is that some of the locations are way out and I
have to find them my self.

I can't get this to work either. The pin is in the middle of the suburb I
want, but I can't change it to a different street. Right clicking does
nothing at all. Maybe because this is in Australia? I can't get bird's eye
view.

Re: [LegacyUG] Ver 7 mapping and push pins

2008-06-07 Thread Susan Daily
Dede, since cemeteries and churches, etc. are used by more than one person,
generally, it doesn't add tremendously to the Master Location list (although
I do have 1401 locations, so maybe it does). So then you can place the pin
for that cemetery and church more specifically. I wouldn't do residences,
but that is a personal preference.

To move the pin, right-click in the new location, and the pin will move
there.

I am not sure if these are covered in the videos.

When you have the map up, place your cursor where you want the pushpin.
Right click. Answer the pop-up question and the pushpin will move to that spot.

Question 1: If you have a street address for the cemetery, it is
properly entered in the Burial Address field, which is accessed by
clicking the arrow at the end of the Burial location field. When you
put it in the proper place, then Map My Places only finds the location
entered from the Master Location list. It does not find the specific
cemetery.

I have read several suggestions about how others enter this, but if
you have to enter the specific street address for each location, won't
this make your Master Location List rather long and cumbersome? If
this is the only way, I have lots of work to do to get the mapping
feature to work properly.

Question 2: For some reason, the push pin for my parents' hometown
comes up on the same street they live on, only five blocks south. I
have NOT entered their address, so I'm guessing this is just where VE
has decided to put the pin for their town.

It "feels" like we should be able to click on the push pin and drag it
to where we want it to be, but I know that doesn't work. Is there a
complicated reason why that is not an option? I'll take a simple "not
even possible." I don't need a detailed explanation as to why not,
since I probably wouldn't understand it anyway! :)

Dede,

Go to the correct location and right click on the map. You will be asked if
you want to make this the spot. Bingo"!

RE: [LegacyUG] Ver 7 mapping and push pins

2008-06-06 Thread Jennifer Crockett
I can't get this to work either. The pin is in the middle of the suburb I
want, but I can't change it to a different street. Right clicking does
nothing at all. Maybe because this is in Australia? I can't get bird's eye
view.
