I had the same problem a couple of days ago, so I unsubscribed and resubscribed
using a different email address. I think it has something to do with Gmail
since I normally use that email address and not this one.

Re: [LegacyUG] Legacy 7.4 Assigns New Customer Number

2010-03-02 Thread Bob Janice
Evert and all . . . .

Got email from Ken McGinnis yesterday concerning the changing of my
customer number by version 7.4. Turns out that the VERY INITIAL release
of the update file caused the change. Once Millennia realized this,
they changed the update file within a couple of hours to remedy this.
Again, this change in the customer number only occurred for those people
who downloaded the 7.4 update within the first couple of hours of its
release. Anyone who downloaded the file after the fixed update had
been put on Millennia's server will not have this problem.

Hi Maureen,

My first thought is to make sure you are not using the same file. It
sounds like you are not, however sometimes when the split screen ask's

From what I could make out, there were a lot of Google-related problems

If you have thesame person in both, but only partial or incorrect data in one side, you canclick to edit, then save, on the correct one. Then on the other side, clickto edit the same incorrect person. Now you only need to click name, in,date, or other field to copy it. Evert and all . . . .

Got email from Ken McGinnis yesterday concerning the changing of
my customer number by version 7.4.  Turns out that the VERY
INITIAL release of the update file caused the change.  Once
Millennia realized this, they changed the update file within a
couple of hours to remedy this.  Again, this change in the
customer number only occurred for those people who downloaded the
7.4 update within the first couple of hours of its release.Â
Anyone who downloaded the file after the fixed update had been
put on Millennia's server will not have this problem.

 Bob

Re: [LegacyUG] Web page creation issues

2010-03-02 Thread Ron Ferguson
Dennis,

Everyone of your questions can have any answer you wish. You posted this
email in html, which is the language of web pages, so you found this easy
enough to do grin (btw. plain text is requested on this list). Depending
on what you want it can also be extremely complex.

Web pages appear in a user's browser, they are stored on a site arranged by
the web developer, which may be free or paid for.

You can have them open to all, or closed, depends on how you do it and what
is available from your web host.

It is easy enough to create a web site on your PC. In Legacy use
InternetCreate Webpages. I recommend that you do this using a small number
of individuals and have a good play to see how they work. You will find a
whole load of stuff about doing this on my website at
http://fergys.co.uk/Blogs/WebPge.php et al.

When you have had a play, or if you hit problems, I suggest that you join
WUL, a self-help group aimed at helping Legacy Users create web pages. It is
a Yahoo Group and can be found at http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/WUL/

Hope this helps a little!

RE: [LegacyUG] Test-- Subscribed, but no messages arriving

2010-03-02 Thread Brian L. Lightfoot
There are at least two incarnations of the definition of greylisted. One
involves something that is not yet blacklisted but on a watch list, or such
similar happenings when a particular mail server is ill-configured. But the
most common usage is that of an anti-spam filter which effectively blocks the
message the first time it is received and requests that it be resent after a
certain delay, typical 300 seconds or so. Since most spammers don't bother
resending messages, legitimate messages are supposed to get resent as per
standard protocol.

In other words, your mail hosting account has filters established on it. The
downside is that all your mail is delayed. It can get worse; if the sending
server is configured to ignore such requests, then even legitimate messages
will never get sent a second time and thus never arrive.

Greylisting practices are highly debated and one big criticism is that their
very nature triples the amount of messages being sent, as if the Internet
weren't becoming more and more crowded every day. In many European and Asian
countries where the average user bandwidth is much more than their American
counterparts can enjoy, this practice is not yet seen as a problem.

However, mapping from the Master locations list, works fine.

Thank you for the information. I tried your suggestion but found the
output to have enough differences so as to not work for the pre-printed
forms I have. Will continue to look for a solution.

Re: [LegacyUG] What is the _APID Gedcom Tag?

2010-03-02 Thread Garnet Quigley
Thanks Brett. I haven't had the chance tonight to give it the full try,
but walking through the steps you described it looks good. I really
appreciated receiving your input. Thank you again for taking the time
to lay it out for me.

 Hi Garnet

Try exporting the second time, not importing, to exclude the tag you mapped
to. If you use the export/gedcom/customise sequence you should be able to
delete the tag you used for _APID, and then import the gedcom you created
 into a new legacy file.

 Cheers, Brett

Thanks once more Brett. Bad news is when you highlight the unrecognized
_APID and then click Remove you just get a warning popup that No item
 is selected.

Worse news was my accidental inclusion of a hyperlinkI had cut and
paste it from the notepad list Legacy offered up and failed to notice it
was there, it did not highlight itself while composing the message, only
after hitting SendMy apologies to the LegacyUserGroup. However I
just tried the hyperlink and was taken to the screen where I had been
merging data for the individual in someone else's tree to the individual
in my treepossibly a clue that the _APID relates to the act of
merging of two (or more) individuals/individuals data on Ancestry.com

I tried your suggestion to map to a recognized item with the extra
export and import cycle as it seems most logical. Problem is that when
I tried the second import I wasn't kicked back to the screen where you
can control or remove items.because there were not longer
unrecognized items to trigger the screen. I will play around some more
to see if there is another way to get back into that screen. And if that
doesn't work I will take solice from Sherry's advice that Support are
working on it, and work on other things until Support has found a
solution. Thanks to everyone for their input.

 Hi Garnet

Just going through the import gedcom process - select file (Legacy does an
analysis), untick Put unrecognised items into notes field, click
customise (you should now get the unrecognised items, that you need to
move to items not to be imported - I don't have a file to play with, so
assume you simply highlight the _APID tag and then click remove to move
from one box to the other - or drag it there). Alternatively if you map to
 a
recognised item pick something like research notes or to do, then do
 another
export and import cycle to exclude that tag on the second run - you will
 be
doing a convert it on the first run.

Is the hyperlink quoted below ending up in the right place?

 Cheers, Brett

Search for Individual with Individual RIN Greater than or equal to 3464.

If 4710 is NOT the highest RIN in your file you will need to add a
Second Condition of AND Individual with RIN Less than 4711.

In the Search List, got to OptionsAdvanced Tagging and tag everyone in
the search list with an unused tag.

Then go to OptionsAdvanced Deleting and delete everyone with that tag
number.

Re: [LegacyUG] Sorry wrong version - 2 BIG problems!!!

2010-03-02 Thread Susan Perrett
Ron, it worked, have made a note, just in case I need to do it again
sometime in the future!

2nd part first!

I would use SearchFindDetailed Search

Row 1) Individual; Individual RIN; Greater than; 3463

AND

Row 2) Individual; Individual RIN; Less than; 4711

Ensure that the radio button near bottom left Clear List before this
search is checked.

Click Create.

On the new screen:

Select OptionsAdvance Tagging

Select a convenient (unused) tag number, say, 1, and click Everyone in
this Search List.

Now go to ToolsAdvanced Deleting and delete all records with a tag of 1.

That answers your question, *but* I would not do it the first part that way!

I would use only one line:

Row 1) Individual; Sex; Equal To; Unknown

and then proceed as before.
