Re: [LegacyUG] Little white rectangles behind labels
Hi once again, Well I have spent quite some time on this and as you said Mike I had a glitch on my pc wide of my mac and the desktop had changed itself from Classic to Win Xp and this had made the difference, funnily enough only with Legacy. I have manually changed it back again, and now have to redo my colors over. Thanks heaps for your input, shall keep that in mind. [LegacyUG] Vital stats - certificate vs "genealogical purposes only"
When using SourceWriter, do people differentiate between i.e. a true death certificate VS a copy of a death registration form stamped "genealogical purposes only"? I just realized that SourceWriter uses the death certificate "short form" template for "genealogical purposes only" records. Thanks! Re: [LegacyUG] Little white rectangles behind labels
Hi again Mike Thanks for your help with the Family search arrows, it worked a treat. I also did a check of the other hint, for windows and the background color of the File | Edit | Add | View | etc in Legacy and this is the only program where I am having the White background (rectangle) behind the text ie: File, Edit, Add etc. I have not changed anything within my settings and not other program is affected. It used to be grey behind and not any longer. I have taken screenshots of my colors in the past in color, so I could retain this when I upgraded as I always have problems with this process, as it changes everything back to the Legacy default. Thanks once again for your help. [Replying to Ron since OP's post was not plain/text.] Helen: You could store the old MRIN in the marriage User ID field. This can be easily done using SQL. However, because you have already done the renumbering in your new file (and presumably made other updates), this may no longer be an option. Or you can create your own marriage event type ... maybe called "Old MRIN" ... and store the old MRIN there. -- Dennis Kowallek (LTools) http://zippersoftware.com/ltools http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ltools Legacy User Group guidelines: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp Archived messages after Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyusers.com/ Archived messages from old mail server - before Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergr...@legacyfamilytree.com/ Online technical support: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Help.asp To unsubscribe: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/LegacyLists.asp

Re: [LegacyUG] Sourcing in Legacy
Criticism is in the eye of the beholder. I saw it as advice, but unfortunately, as soon as any statement of advice moves slightly towards a "grey" area, then some people will think it's "black" and others will think it is "white". Just my two cents worth because the people here that give up their time to help the most, often get advice on "how to assist". Go figure. Ward, Thanks. A bit more work but effective. Early genealogy programs limited the space for locations to very few characters, and quite a bit of our data was entered then. Instead of allocating a separate comma-delimited position for the cemetery, attach it to the City name. Thus, the following are two separate locations, but should sort identically: Spokane, Spokane, Washington, USA Spokane - Fairmount Cemetery, Spokane, Washington, USA I have mentioned this before and nobody has reponded with reasons why it might be a bad idea. (I learned about it from this list, a few years ago.) Of course the second location won't be found in a search of the Geo Location DB, but you can still geo-code it by first searching for the first location, then adding the cemetery. Re: [LegacyUG] Sources and attached files
Thanks Dennis for that information. It seems that I am not alone in wanting to have sources displayable on my web pages. It seems that Legacy generates these links for other book reports, does it not? If so then the HTML could be produced by Legacy to do the same for web pages, no? In looking at the code produced for sources it would be quite easy to include it. Thanks again Dennis. Steve Stevens - Original Message - From: "Dennis M. Re: [LegacyUG] Sourcing in Legacy
Kathy, Let me try to assist you without putting you down or criticizing you as others have here. Note that this is in text, not HTML for your viewing pleasure. I think I may have had a similar or same problem as you, and if so you are right reloading is no good. Do you sometimes click several times in the "Assigned Sources" window on a source? Is this when it happens? I have noticed that when I am in a hurry and do that a blank source screen come up and the only choice is to cancel. I know this is not a very good explanation, but with this problem a picture is worth a thousand words, but since we can't do that either, it's the best I can do. It does not happen every time to me only once in awhile and I can't repeat it. Try not to click rapidly in that area and see if it stops happening, if you do. I see the outline of the source window, but it will not open and I can only close it by clicking on cancel. This seems to happen mostly with census sourcing. But it can also happen with other sources. Does anyone have any ideas why that would be happening? I did contact Legacy for help and the suggestion was to re-install the program. RE: [LegacyUG] Sourcing in Legacy
Re-installing the program is certainly a safe solution and wouldn't take as long as posting your message, reading replies, and replying to one or more of them. But here is one thing I might suggest. Probably not the problem but worthwhile to check out anyhow. Is there a multimedia file associated to the source? If so, try temporarily removing that file. The simplest way is to simply rename the file using Windows Explorer so that Legacy can't find it under the original name or move the file to a different Location. For example, if you have a JPEG picture that is 25 megs in size, Legacy will attempt to create a thumbnail of it to display on the source window and if you have a relatively slow system it may seem like the program has frozen. The solution to this example would be to resize the picture to a much smaller file size so that Legacy doesn't choke on it. Legacy does not create its own set of thumbnails to use but rather re-creates one on the fly each time one is displayed. Temporarily removing the multimedia file associated with the source will indicate whether this was the problem. (Original post converted to plain text.) Re: [LegacyUG] Sources and attached files
Steve, I have tried both the Ancestor and Descendants Report using your settings and the list was published correctly at the end of both reports. But, I think I now see what you mean! you want the sources multi-media files to print. In a nutshell those attached to the detail won't. Personally I don't wish them to as I have far too many, so have not tried. I think those that are attached to the Master Sources do, but again I don't wish to - in fact I have none attached. Maybe somebody who does include these images can comment? It's worth remembering that those who are most likely to refuse HTML posts are those who understand HTML!! Your colour scheme would be in a folder called, naturally enough, "Colour Schemes" *but only if you saved it yourself*. If you did, load it in using the button on the bottom right of the Options>Customise>Colours page, and select the file which you created. To just change the colour of the Event Source Indicator (to give it a name) use the Contents button on the colours page. It is easier BTW if you copy across all the USR files, some of them are probably still the default ones, but it will avoid you having to work out which does what. Re: [LegacyUG] usr files
Hi Wendy - sorry I missed the critical bit! And I don't know the answer, but the method I would use is: Go to the places where the settings are, and change something. Save the change and exit Legacy. Go to the .USR files (in the Legacy program folder) and see which ones have the date time to match the change you just made. Swap the files that match.
