One other enhancement that would help would having the ability to
exclude someone from a particular census. There are some people who you
just cannot find in a particular census and marking them as
excluded/can't find would make the list easier to use. And an option
for the list to include or exclude these individuals would be nice.

It is working for me. The MRIN of the couple appear in the report title.

Make sure that the text [MRIN] appears in the box with the title of the
report. That is what causes Legacy to fill in the Title with the MRIN.

Anyone else not getting the little citation numbers to print for the death notes
and burial notes on a spouse in the FGR? Just want to check before I submit a

I am aware that you cannot source these fields independent of the death
date/place, but thought the citation numbers should print. (especially since
the notes print so far away from the date/place in the FGR)

You might use tags to get rid of folks you don't want in list before
you run the census tool (and then use the only search the search list
- from memory I think that is what the box in the lower left corner is
called).  A version of this was tagging my directs on one side or the
other and then running the census search.  Worked a charm both times.

[LegacyUG] Ibid. in reports

Does the Ibid. (repeats what is listed in the
previous citations) work OK in reports?

I am trying to create an Ancestor book report for
an ancestor and notice that the sources at the end
of this report are mostly of the same source so it
is repeating itself many times.

As I have already checked Ibid in

is working in the report function.

I have just been checking the archives for this

anyone confirm this?

Many thanks,

I am extremely hard of hearing, wear hearing aids and find some webinars hard
to hear (even with full volume). My preference would be Closed Captions
(subtitles). Use them all the time on TV and videos. Only way to hear. Live
captions is always behind, and closed captions will take too long to get video

I am from the UK where I am beginning to try to get people to provide a BSL

To find the people to exclude then use census list to find the people for
the census year you want, then tag everyone in list, then go to first tab
and do a search for the individuals with a Census Event= to What ever you
named the event as and search only the tagged list then the results should
be those that have a census event and then you can untag everyone in list as
they should still be tagged.

you run the census tool (and then use the only search the search list
- from memory I think that is what the box in the lower left corner is
called). A version of this was tagging my directs on one side or the
other and then running the census search. Worked a charm both times.

One other enhancement that would help would having the ability to exclude
someone from a particular census.  There are some people who you just
cannot find in a particular census and marking them as excluded/can't
find would make the list easier to use.  And an option for the list to
include or exclude these individuals would be nice.

 not
disqualify that person from the resulting list for that year and

Surely, the fact that I have found the census entry for that person

Re: [LegacyUG] Flash Webinar on Friday - Legacy Family Tree: Navigating the New Census Tools

2012-03-09 Thread Paula Ryburn
Geoff - awesome webinar today!
I have a suggestion for the census list tool, but will submit it the normal
route (expanding its capabilities beyond censuses).

I also would like to suggest making the exclude people who have a 1940 census
event already an OPTION. Here's where I'm coming from:

I used Steve Morse's tool to find the ED for my dad's family home on the south
side of Chicago (Google even had a current picture of the front of the house!),
so I have the Series, Roll, ED, description for my dad's family NOW. I want to
record that somewhere. I know toward the end of QA you were adding To-Do
items, but that seems an extra step to me. I would like to add the Census
record now with just the information I have, then flesh it out when the images
are available next month and I view them. (Does this make sense?)

Anyway, with the enhancement you described (you showed us an email you had
received from one of the programmers), these people would be excluded. However,
I would still want them to show up on the Census List Report... the one I'm
going to print to use when looking at the images. (rather than a separate to-do
list, because face it the new report is much better)

And although this tool within Legacy is slick, I was more impressed with the
find the ED tool you showed us (having browsed the 1930 census, I know it is
tedious)... and I already have a very similar tool that one of the LUG
subscribers had developed a while back that does much the same thing (but
without the ability to tag results... just output).

Michele,
If they don’t Start with then you could use Contains what ever data you
used for them, that is another reason for keeping them all consistent when
you do the entry. I usually start by going to someone who has the same type
of event and just click to edit the event and then close it. Now when you
create add another event just click on the labels and the field is populated
with what was on the screen from the last edit. Makes it go quickly in
creating the event. I learned the hard way after redoing stuff over many
times, have learned to make one and see how it looks then just use them as
examples.

RE: [LegacyUG] Family Search Help

2012-03-09 Thread Paul Gray
Hi Kathy,

I am not LDS, and I have had a regular FamilySearch account for some time. I’ve
used it for, among other things ordering films to be delivered to my local FHC.
When I try to sign on to new.familysearch.org I get the expected ‘Your account
is not ready for new.familysearch.org’.

Until I have access to NFS, I see no reason to activate LFS in Legacy Family
Tree.

When I try to register for new.familysearch.org it wants me to create a brand
new account, which I would rather not do.

I seem to remember a link to a page somewhere where you could sign on with (or
identify) your existing account, and request an ‘upgrade’ to a
new.familysearch.org account. You would go on a list, and at some point be
granted access.

Could you, or anyone else on this list who knows it, paste a link to it here?

Thanks

There are two different sites, 3 really, if you can still access the 'old'
familysearch site.

1-www.familysearch.org - you can search all of the extracted and indexed
records - this archive is added to constantly due to the continuing efforts of
thousands of volunteers all over the world. This is accessible to anyone in the
world for FREE

2-www.new.familysearch.org - this is the one that includes family pedigrees
submitted from thousands of individuals, primarily LDS members, over the years.
The 'old' familysearch had much of this information but it wasn't connected
into family trees like it is now. The LDS members have been working on
clearing up duplication, catching bugs, suggesting improvements and adding more
data to this huge family tree for the last few years. The general public is
getting access to this site gradually and has been over the last several
months. Go to this site and click on the register button, fill out the form
and wait. It could take a week or several months. There is no timeline that can
be promised on this. This is a site with family trees, therefore, SECONDARY
information from other researchers.  A lot of people confuse these two sites;
this one will be available to everyone for free once everything is implemented
and it is ready for the influx of users when they do a general release.

Does that help? Kathy

I may have misunderstood do you mean say some one has 1850 as a 2nd or 3rd
event? I just ran it again and many of mine have events listed before the
1850 event (some had a 1840 census event or Alt birth event) and it showed
them. So if you were having this type of problem then yes it has been fixed.

Ok here is my example:
I have people that I created an 1850 Census event and enter the events the
same:
Event name: Census
I entered the description as either of these two.
Event-description: 1850 U.S or 1850 US

So I did searchfindCensus List
1. United States
2 . I Choose 1850 (note the first time I went to this screen the default
was on 1940 with no date showing if you create a Search List without
selecting a year from the box, the search will find no results. So you must
select a year from the drop down box for a search to work).
3. you can choose your Census List Report Options 4. make sure Clear List
before This search is ticked 5. Create a search List (I had 3272 entries in
list) 6. OptionsAdvanced Tagging 7. choose a tag number and then
clickEveryone in Search ListClose Advanced Tagging 8. Now click on
SearchFind and go to Detailed Search tab 9. Primary Condition: Look for
whom? Individual Where to look: Event-Name How to look: Equal To What to
look for: Census 10. Check Second Condition AND Individual Event-Description
Starts With 1850 11. Search only list is tickedCreate the search list (I am
left with 253
entries)
12. OptionsAdvanced TaggingUntagEveryone in Search List 13. To verify
that it worked you can go back to SearchFindCensus List and looking create
the list and you should see on the event tab, that everyone that is tagged
does not have an 1850 census event and those that are untagged have a Census
event-description equal to 1850

Now when you want to work on them just use the Indi. Tag # to find the next
one in the list. If you want to refine it even further then you can do that
by searching on the individuals with that tag number and what ever criteria
you want using the Detailed Search tab.

Michele,
If they don’t Start with then you could use Contains what ever data you
used for them, that is another reason for keeping them all consistent when
you do the entry.

 Geoff - awesome webinar today!
I have a suggestion for the census list tool, but will submit it the
normal route (expanding its capabilities beyond censuses).

I also would like to suggest making the exclude people who have a 1940
census event already an OPTION. Here's where I'm coming from:

I used Steve Morse's tool to find the ED for my dad's family home on the
south side of Chicago (Google even had a current picture of the front of
the house!), so I have the Series, Roll, ED, description for my dad's
family NOW. I want to record that somewhere. I know toward the end of QA
you were adding To-Do items, but that seems an extra step to me. I would
like to add the Census record now with just the information I have, then
flesh it out when the images are available next month and I view them.
  (Does this make sense?)

Anyway, with the enhancement you described (you showed us an email you had
received from one of the programmers), these people would be excluded.
However, I would still want them to show up on the Census List Report...
the one I'm going to print to use when looking at the images. (rather than
a separate to-do list, because face it the new report is much better)

And although this tool within Legacy is slick, I was more impressed with
the find the ED tool you showed us (having browsed the 1930 census, I
know it is tedious)... and I already have a very similar tool that one of
the LUG subscribers had developed a while back that does much the same
thing (but without the ability to tag results... just output).

 Thanks again,

[LegacyUG] Not use married name after divorce

2012-03-09 Thread Paula Ryburn
Getting myself re-acquainted with things I haven't looked at since I purchased
Legacy.

Ran the Calendar report for living individuals' birthdays in April--with option
to use married names for women.

My cousin popped up who is divorced... and I have the status set to divorced
on her marriage and I even tossed in a year for the status date (I don't know
exactly when the divorce occurred).

I have the rule 0 - don't generate married names set for this couple.

I see in the Help that when printing anniversaries, you can skip divorced
couples---but nothing related to that for birthdays.

What else do I need to do so that she is not shown with this married name in
reports where use married names is chosen?

Thanks,

[LegacyUG] Census List Needs Refining

2012-03-09 Thread Tony Rolfe
Here's a couple of things I'd like to see in the Census List tool. Yes,
I know you can do them by tagging and combining separate searches but,
this could become a one-click tool.

1. The ability to say Ignore people who have a specific event on the
specified date. Ideally, have a list of event names which should cause
the exclusion. I have an event Census, but some folk may have
individual events for different parts of the same census (England
Census, Wales Census etc.)

2. The ability to limit the people to be included by: Only those tagged
on tag x, Only direct-line ancestors, Only blood relations, etc. Each
of these should have a Plus spouses option.

It used to take me about 6 separate searches to do what this tool does,
so that's great. As a first draft, it is brilliant.

Cheers

Tony

Yes, the window is maximized. It’s doesn’t appear that the text is too tiny as
it does that the box is too narrow in height. It was an issue some time ago and

George,

I haven't noticed this issue, if anything mine are a little too large.

Do you have the main window maximized? If not that sometimes makes the
text tiny.

I just don’t know when it’s safe or how long to wait to update. Anyone else
 seeing this problem?

Re: [LegacyUG] squished popup information boxes redux

2012-03-09 Thread Brian/Support
I agree that the bottom of the text for b, chr, death and burial is not
complete and part of the box does not show but I would not call any part
of the box squished.

I have entered a problem report on the issue.

Thanks for confirming this Brian. This box does appear narrower in height than
the box for children however. I think before they were about the same size.

RE: [LegacyUG] Family Search Help

2012-03-09 Thread Carl Cox
When I go to familysearch.org/ (no WWW or new.), I do not sign in, I
just begin searching. It has no idea who I am, and I do not know of any
advantage of signing in. So everyone can search there.

I used to go to the old site to search the IGI and batch numbers, but
now the new site has all those data easily searchable. Also, when you
find an extracted record, you can note the batch number and search that
batch. On the opening search screen is a place to enter the batch, but
it disappears when you search without it, and the only way I have found
to get it back is to click on the home screen again. So I no longer need
the old screen. This is a recent enhancement, and I like it.

Re: [LegacyUG] Family Search Help

2012-03-09 Thread Jackie King
The advantage to signing in is that some of their databases have images
attached to them. Some of those require that you sign in to see the
actual record image.

Not all of them do ask for a sign in - but there are some where it is an
advantage.

Cheers -

Jackie
