One other enhancement that would help would having the ability to exclude someone from a particular census. There are some people who you just cannot find in a particular census and marking them as excluded/can't find would make the list easier to use. Re: [LegacyUG] Flash Webinar on Friday - Legacy Family Tree: Navigating the New Census Tools
Geoff - awesome webinar today! I have a suggestion for the census list tool, but will submit it the normal route (expanding its capabilities beyond censuses). I also would like to suggest making the exclude people who have a 1940 census event already an OPTION. Here's where I'm coming from: I used Steve Morse's tool to find the ED for my dad's family home on the south side of Chicago (Google even had a current picture of the front of the house!), so I have the Series, Roll, ED, description for my dad's family NOW. I want to record that somewhere. I know toward the end of QA you were adding To-Do items, but that seems an extra step to me. I would like to add the Census record now with just the information I have, then flesh it out when the images are available next month and I view them. (Does this make sense?) Anyway, with the enhancement you described (you showed us an email you had received from one of the programmers), these people would be excluded. However, I would still want them to show up on the Census List Report... the one I'm going to print to use when looking at the images. (rather than a separate to-do list, because face it the new report is much better) And although this tool within Legacy is slick, I was more impressed with the find the ED tool you showed us (having browsed the 1930 census, I know it is tedious)... and I already have a very similar tool that one of the LUG subscribers had developed a while back that does much the same thing (but without the ability to tag results... just output). Re: [LegacyUG] Census List Needs Refining
Michele, If they don’t Start with then you could use Contains what ever data you used for them, that is another reason for keeping them all consistent when you do the entry. I usually start by going to someone who has the same type of event and just click to edit the event and then close it. Now when you create add another event just click on the labels and the field is populated with what was on the screen from the last edit. Makes it go quickly in creating the event. I learned the hard way after redoing stuff over many times, have learned to make one and see how it looks then just use them as examples. RE: [LegacyUG] Family Search Help
Hi Kathy, I am not LDS, and I have had a regular FamilySearch account for some time. I’ve used it for, among other things ordering films to be delivered to my local FHC. When I try to sign on to new.familysearch.org I get the expected ‘Your account is not ready for new.familysearch.org’. Until I have access to NFS, I see no reason to activate LFS in Legacy Family Tree. When I try to register for new.familysearch.org it wants me to create a brand new account, which I would rather not do. I seem to remember a link to a page somewhere where you could sign on with (or identify) your existing account, and request an ‘upgrade’ to a new.familysearch.org account. You would go on a list, and at some point be granted access. Could you, or anyone else on this list who knows it, paste a link to it here? Thanks Paul Gray From: Kathy Meyer [mailto:kmeyer2...@gmail.com] Sent: March-08-12 6:46 PM To: LegacyUserGroup@LegacyUsers.com Subject: Re: [LegacyUG] Family Search Help There are two different sites, 3 really, if you can still access the 'old' familysearch site. 1-www.familysearch.org - you can search all of the extracted and indexed records - this archive is added to constantly due to the continuing efforts of thousands of volunteers all over the world. This is accessible to anyone in the world for FREE 2-www.new.familysearch.org - this is the one that includes family pedigrees submitted from thousands of individuals, primarily LDS members, over the years. The 'old' familysearch had much of this information but it wasn't connected into family trees like it is now. The LDS members have been working on clearing up duplication, catching bugs, suggesting improvements and adding more data to this huge family tree for the last few years. The general public is getting access to this site gradually and has been over the last several months. Go to this site and click on the register button, fill out the form and wait. It could take a week or several months. There is no timeline that can be promised on this. This is a site with family trees, therefore, SECONDARY information from other researchers. A lot of people confuse these two sites; this one will be available to everyone for free once everything is implemented and it is ready for the influx of users when they do a general release. Michele, The problem you reported with searching and events was related to searching for events with missing sources. It was not related to searching for events by name. It was a long time ago. I remember though that I was searching for something in the DESCRIPTION field, like the name of cemetery. It would pick it up if it was the first event listed for that person but if it wasn’t it didn’t and I was missing some. Glad you were there Paula! I'll suggest to Dave to make that an option. Thanks, Geoff Rasmussen Millennia Corporation ge...@legacyfamilytree.com www.LegacyFamilyTree.com http://www.legacyfamilytree.com/ On Fri, Mar 9, 2012 at 2:09 PM, Paula Ryburn paula.ryb...@sbcglobal.netwrote: Geoff - awesome webinar today! [LegacyUG] Not use married name after divorce
Getting myself re-acquainted with things I haven't looked at since I purchased Legacy. Ran the Calendar report for living individuals' birthdays in April--with option to use married names for women. My cousin popped up who is divorced... and I have the status set to divorced on her marriage and I even tossed in a year for the status date (I don't know exactly when the divorce occurred). I have the rule 0 - don't generate married names set for this couple. I see in the Help that when printing anniversaries, you can skip divorced couples---but nothing related to that for birthdays. What else do I need to do so that she is not shown with this married name in reports where use married names is chosen? [LegacyUG] Census List Needs Refining
Here's a couple of things I'd like to see in the Census List tool. Yes, I know you can do them by tagging and combining separate searches but, this could become a one-click tool. 1. The ability to say Ignore people who have a specific event on the specified date. Ideally, have a list of event names which should cause the exclusion. I have an event Census, but some folk may have individual events for different parts of the same census (England Census, Wales Census etc.) 2. The ability to limit the people to be included by: Only those tagged on tag x, Only direct-line ancestors, Only blood relations, etc. Each of these should have a Plus spouses option. It used to take me about 6 separate searches to do what this tool does, so that's great. As a first draft, it is brilliant. Yes, the window is maximized. It’s doesn’t appear that the text is too tiny as it does that the box is too narrow in height. When I go to familysearch.org/ (no WWW or new.), I do not sign in, I just begin searching. It has no idea who I am, and I do not know of any advantage of signing in. So everyone can search there. I used to go to the old site to search the IGI and batch numbers, but now the new site has all those data easily searchable. Also, when you find an extracted record, you can note the batch number and search that batch. On the opening search screen is a place to enter the batch, but it disappears when you search without it, and the only way I have found to get it back is to click on the home screen again. The advantage to signing in is that some of their databases have images attached to them. Some of those require that you sign in to see the actual record image.
