Hi Barbara

You could try using bookmarks, but I don't think that is quite what you
are wanting.

It looks like a feature yet to be included in Legacy - a bit like adding
a hyper-link within the database from any text.

Another existing feature may be the shared event, but what appears to
be "missing" is the bit you are wanting - the ability to simply pop up a
window from an individuals event list, with the list of shared
individuals so that you can select any on the list to go to.

List Style formatting is available for the FGS in version 8. To get to it you
go to Report Options > Format tab. Click the Event Narrative Format button and
you will see it there.

I tried reset and it did in fact reset to default options. I think the problem

Am I correct in thinking that List Style formatting is not even an option on

I have encountered a problem with the Family Group Report and cannot find any
discussion in the archives.
When I select the "Don't split children over page breaks" option, the name is
missing for the child whose information starts at the top of the second page.
The name appears instead at the bottom of the second page. If I do not select
that option, this child is split across the page break. Has this been
addressed in a later version or is there a way around the problem.
I am using Legacy Deluxe version 7.5.0.278.
Thanks for your help. Nancy

[LegacyUG] navigating to associates

2014-09-21 Thread Barbara Levergood
I am a TMG user with a newbie question. I am trying to figure out how to
navigate among individuals in a database in Legacy 8.

Say I have an individual Census event that is shared with the members of
the household (wife, children, unrelated housekeeper). Can I directly
navigate from the owner of that Census event to the housekeeper or from
the housekeeper back to the male head of household? Or is the quickest
way to open up the Census event and the list of individuals it is shared
with, commit the name of the housekeeper to memory, close all the
windows, and then look for the housekeeper's name in the index?

Thanks for any tips!

When my family needed something similar, I tried several
approaches. First, I tried a simple, straight-forward,
"Descendant narrative" type report which I edited to exclude
the unnecessary and include the necessary. It only took me
a couple hours to realize this was far too time-consuming to
be useful.

Then, I tried the Medical History Chart from the US Govt
site; it too failed to satisfy.
https://familyhistory.hhs.gov/fhh-web/home.action
[if you google "family health history" .gov you get a number
of hits for useful forms that aren't necessarily from a .gov
site.]

Finally, I simply did a GED of the relevant portions of my
main data-base into a new database, changed the NAME to CoD
(with Dx codes where available), color-coded for heart,
lungs, circulation, other; deleted all notes, and printed a
single-page pedigree chart and associated FGS. I could've
stopped with the pedigree since that's all he read. :)

FWIW

RE: [LegacyUG] Check/Repair

Kirsten,
This is a known issue that has already been fixed by the programmers and the
fix will appear in the next update. This is a problem with the program and not
your actual data file. Only a handful of people actually have this error.

If you would like me to check/repair the file for you, you can back up your
file (data portion only, leave the other boxes unchecked) and attach the backup
to an email addressed to supp...@legacyfamilytree.com.Put my name in the
email somewhere. Your file should be just fine without a check/repair until
the next update comes out but I would be more than happy to check/repair it for
you. Either way, always make frequent backups.

Re: [LegacyUG] Creating a medical history report or chart

2014-09-21 Thread Susan Broadbooks
Hi Cathy,

Thanks so much for the tips. I created a separate file that includes all
the individuals needs so that I could put detailed medical information in
the note section. I didn't want to include this in my main file for privacy
reasons. Even with the privacy settings available in my main file, this
report will contain details I'm reluctant to keep in my main file.

You gave me some good ideas to explore. I didn't know about the option to
add text boxes with Legacy Charting. I will play around with the different
options you describe and see what works best.

Thanks again!

Re: [LegacyUG] Report disaster

2014-09-21 Thread Cathy Pinner
Hi Jane,

Have you done a Check/Repair on the file?

Did resetting the report options and starting again help?

Is the report correct if you go to Report Preview instead of straight to
rtf?

Just trying to narrow down where the problem is. I've not seen anything
like what you describe.

RTF report looks fine here but I may not have the same options chosen.

Re: [LegacyUG] Creating a medical history report or chart

2014-09-21 Thread Cathy Pinner
Hi Susan,
A lot depends on where you have entered the medical information.
You may have made a special event for various illnesses (I have one to
record blindness/glaucoma in one branch of my family. In earlier
generations I don't have the diagnoses but they a number either had very
poor eyesight or went blind - in the previous generation there are many
cases of glaucoma)
You may have just entered the information in Medical Notes.
Cause of Death may be relevant.
Or you may have used General Notes.

Another consideration is whether the people concerned all belong to the
one branch of the family so you can capture them all in a descendant
report or whether several branches are involved.

You may need a chart to show the relationships and a Descendant Report
with the notes. If you've used events to record the information, you
could edit other event types (in the Master Event Definition list would
be the quickest) to be private so they weren't included.

Or you may be able to use a Legacy Charting Chart and add text boxes for
the notes and copy and paste them to the chart.
or Save a Legacy Chart report to text and then work in your Word processor.

How easy it is depends on how you've entered the data.
