Re: [LegacyUG] Master Location Table pEdit/List/Print

2015-06-01 Thread Cathy Pinner
Hi Rune,

1) you can use copy and paste for the co-ordinates - if you use a
Windows clipboard extender like M8 softwares FreeClips/M8 clips then you
can copy both and then paste both

2) you can mark the unknown locations as Do not auto-geo code the
current location by clicking on the Geo-code button above the people
associated list.
Then you can go to a nearby location on the map and then go back to the
unknown location or simply navigate to the known place and right click
on the map when you know the approximate location. (OR you can do more
research on the location to get a closer fit)

I think you need to add a suggestion for printing only verified or
unverified records.
You can choose to include only tagged locations.

Hi,

Today when I opened my legacy file I got the check to see if there is an update
message. It said I need a new update so I downloaded it. When it was done my
Legacy file was gone. I was able to find it and start it. The icon that is on
my desktop is plain white instead of the blue. In its place I had Legacy
Charting

What is happening here. Very disturbing.

Re: [LegacyUG] Master Location Table pEdit/List/Print

2015-06-01 Thread Rune Mattsson
And the big Q are still;
Is there any method to copy the coordinates from one location to one or
more other locations i one or two step?

I have several 100 places that are not found in Bing but I know their
approximate locations

And is there a way to filter the Master Location List and only se and print
verified or unverified records?

I have copied the FDB file,, renamed it to MDB and opened it in Excel,
extracted the table tblER and then I can sort and filter the Master
Location Table as I want. but. it would be better to do it in Legay.

Re: [LegacyUG] Persistent Error in Sharing Event Data with LDS FamilySearch Database

2015-06-01 Thread Jay Wilpolt
Howard,

Have you also asked Family Search WHY they feel that an event with text
exceeding 255 char is not allowed?
Or is there a field discrepancy that maybe your gedcoms are inserting the
notes of that event into the "description" of that event.
The Legacy Event Table is confusing where they list what we refer to as the
"Notes" field as "Desc", which is a different field than the "Description"
field (which follows the Event Name field in most instances)
Will Family Search work ok if you change the Life Sketch event to a General
Note?

Maybe you could share a snippet of the Family Search gedcom that shows how
the Life Sketch event is stored.

[LegacyUG] Private vs. private

2015-06-01 Thread Brian L. Lightfoot
I just noticed that my birth date for some young persons which were
originally entered as "Private" in the database have all now changed to
"private" (uppercase P vs. lowercase P).

If I try to change any record back to "Private", it automatically reverts to
"private". Is this something that the latest update did?

If it did, I'm wondering just what was the reasoning. And if it did, then
why wasn't "Unknown" changed to "unknown"?

(Yeah, OK, it's no big deal but I just want to know if it's something that I
did on my end.)

2015-06-01 Thread Sherry/Support
Ancestry is a repository. At the bottom of the source in Ancestry is a
little thing showing where it came from. You would source it as Court
records (if that's where Ancestry has it from) and then online in #2
"Select the Medium"

Then you would show the Repository as Ancestry, plus it will be part
of the source info on Step 2.

Bill,
Ah but if you are looking at online images you will have to change that to

Court Records > Loose Papers > Online Images (instead of basic format)

This will give you the fields you need to record the website information.
Basic format is for when you have the actual document (or a copy from the
courthouse) in your hands.

Court Records > Loose Papers > Online Images (instead of basic format)

This will give you the fields you need to record the website information.
Basic format is for when you have the actual document (or a copy from the
courthouse) in your hands.

Re: [LegacyUG] Master Location Table pEdit/List/Print

2015-06-01 Thread Sherry/Support
Rune,

I can't duplicate either one. You should be getting a message window
saying "This record cannot be edited" When Legacy freezes, try an
alt-tab to see if the window shows up.

I had no problem saving a Location List report. You might want to
close Legacy then go to Documents\Legacy Family Tree\_AppData\Usr\ and
delete the Location.usr file. When you go back into the report, it
will be recreated. See if that resolves the other error.

If the errors continue, please send in a Problem Report Form from our
website www.LegacyFamilyTree.com > Help Center or through the Support
section of the Legacy Home tab so one of our techs can work with you
on this.

Sherry

Bill,
The reason there is no specific divorce template is because a divorce is a
court case and you should cite it as such.

I use this template
Court Records Loose Papers > Basic format

Here is a sample citation (this is an annulment but they are cited the same way)

Livingston Parish, Louisiana, 21st Judicial District Court, case 16,869, Mrs.
Nellie Kelly Simmons vs. Woodrow W. Simmons, judgement of annulment, 05 April

[LegacyUG] Register for Webinar Wednesday - Genealogy 101 part 3: learning to obtain and read a record by Peggy Lauritzen

2015-06-01 Thread Geoff Rasmussen
We all have an aunt or a grandmother that has a shoebox full of obituaries,
funeral cards, or other old documents that sit on a dresser or closet
shelf. Or, perhaps we are that person with the shoebox. These beginning
genealogy sessions will show how to take what you know and what you have
access to, and teach the steps involved in getting it organized and
compiled into a useful genealogy that can benefit future generations.

Session 3 - Learning how to obtain and read a record. After learning of the
many ways to search for and obtain a record, we will analyze the
information it may contain. We will examine some of the documents that
produce the best evidence of family relationships. A small exercise in
handwriting will round out this class.

Result: Legacy freezes and I have to close in the Task Manager before
restart.

Example 2

I go to the Master Location list -> Options -> Print -> Location List

I will have the master Location List on screen and I can print or save it
but when I close i got the error

“Run time error ‘438’:

And Legacy closes!

And a couple of questions

Is there any method to copy the coordinates from one location to one or
more other locations i one or two step?

I have several 100 places that are not found in Bing but I know their

And is there a way filter the Master Location List and only se and print

[LegacyUG] Persistent Error in Sharing Event Data with LDS FamilySearch Database

2015-06-01 Thread Howard Cady
My OS Windows 8.1, 32 and 64 bit computers, Legacy version 8.0.0.499 setup
to connect to LDS FamilySearch with remembered name and password.
Some individuals in the LDS FamilySearch database have under “Facts and
Events” an entry “Life Sketch” e.g. William Scott b. 25 Sep 1801, d. 1 Jun
1880, FS ID# LWQM-F3Q. The Life Sketch Event’s description can be quite long
and far exceeding 255 characters. When I try to share this type of event by
downloading from FamilySearch to Legacy on my computer Legacy does not download
anything. A manual work-around is to use Windows ctrl-C to copy the LDS
information, generate a Legacy event “LifeSketch” and use Windows ctrl-V to
copy the LDS information back into my LifeSketch Notes field (a MEMO field not
restricted to 255 characters).
There is now a serious problem with my Legacy database. I can no longer
connect to the LDS FamilySearch web site with this active individual that has
this new “LifeSketch” event because the LDS site considers my information
dangerous to their data.
This type of error was reported to Legacy months ago and a ticket for
repair generated, but the error was not fixed through version 499.
I do not know anything about uploading a LifeSketch Event to FamilySearch, but
I have my doubts.

Take a look at your personally entered Event Sentence Definitions and
make sure they're all using the correct replaceable fields and they're
formatted in a manner like the default ones.

I don't think the sources are a problem since the error is when you're
adding or editing an event, but they could be if they're linked to the

[LegacyUG] Date Prefixes capitalized

Hello

I have a problem with the date prefixes (about, before, between etc.)
where I'm not sure if it's a bug or if it's supposed to be working that
way now. Since build 497 dates with prefixes are always capitalized in
the views, in the reports they're just fine. So instead of "about 2015",
the user settings (option 5.7) are ignored and I get an "About 2015".
If it is not a bug, where is the option to turn that off?

[LegacyUG] No Divorce Template in SourceWriter

2015-06-01 Thread William Boswell
I was entering divorce records last night and noticed there is no template
in SourceWriter for divorce records. Should I be using the marriage
template instead? I'm curious as to why there is no divorce template. A
search turned up nothing within SourceWriter. I wish we could create our
own templates so they could be more customized.

Thank you everyone for your response. I have sorted my surnames and now

The only "third party" items we include in Legacy are ActiveX controls,
