Re: [LegacyUG] How to enter the following.

2016-02-23 Thread June
Sorry to all, I’m not explaining this very well am I.

I have all people EXCEPT David Smith. I can’t work out how to put him on making
him the first cousin of Simon Smith because I don’t have either David or
Simon’s parents.

I know it should be simple – I know what cousins are but it’s just escaping me.
Thanks for your help

June,

I'm not clear whether you have David Smith and Hannah in your database.

When you know the relationship but not the connecting people, you can enter
placeholder people to hold them together.

Is Hannah the daughter of John Jones first wife? and you don't know her name?
Just enter Hannah and link her to her father. That will create a new
relationship for the father. You'll need to order marriages.

As Wendy says, be careful you don't enter someone twice.

This is a useful Support article if you find you've made some linking errors.

Thanks for the reply Wendy - what I don't have on the data base is David
Smith (the first cousin of Simon Smith) - I want to enter him so he comes up
as Simon's first cousin rather than enter him as just a separate person -
but for the life of me my mind is not working as to how to connect them as
cousins given that I don't have parents for either.

Hopefully I am making sense.

Thank you - June

Thank you for the compliment, I too have been working with pcs since the
70s (do punch cards ring any bells for you? And as an "old timer" you
should understand the listserv commands better than most and how to
navigate with commands. Listservs have been around as long as "punch
cards" and "bulletin boards"

Have you tried all; the options???

There are several options...and I know thy work as I have unsubbed myself
and resubscribed to the list to "test" the directions...

If you send a blank email with subject line HELP to

instructions and commands.

If you still have the ORIGINAL email--it gives you easy instructions on
unsubbing

Re: [LegacyUG] Can someone explain

2016-02-23 Thread CE WOOD
There is also the problem that you now need a password to unsubscribe. The old
page, still shown on the website, doesn't work, and the new page requires a
password. If someone doesn't know his password, they need to click on "remind",
and, if subscribed, a new password will be sent. Only with a password can you
unsubscribe.

information life would be so much simpler for them and the rest of us wouldn't

Please, no obscenities on the list! That's totally uncalled for.

It's a new list server and we're still trying to iron out problems with it.
This type of post and language does *not* help anything!

The email you replied on was a very honest email asking about the lists and
what the difference was between the two of them.

These are not spam.

[LegacyUG] How to stop the "Spam"

2016-02-23 Thread Bobby Johnson
One way to stop the enormous amount of messages that have
nothing to do with Legacy Family Tree is to stop
complaining. Since the system has returned to operation
there has not been one message about LFT. Delete the
unwanted messages and post meaningful messages and all the
"Spam" will go away.

I am truly sorry for the e-mails. I have tried to locate the setting(s) in my
e-mail client to find out why it is sending out these e-mails. I will continue
to try to find what the problem is.
I do know that it only sends to those that e-mail me and every time they e-mail
me the mail client replies to the sender automatically for some reason. If I
can locate the e-mails I am receiving from you and it is an e-mail subscription
of some kind I will surely unsubscribe from the subscription .. Do you have
some kind of e-mail subscription/newsletter that you send out? If you do
could you list the name of the newsletter so I can watch for it and unsubscribe?
Please accept my apologies. I am working on finding why this happens and get
it to stop.

The Legacy Users' Group is for general queries about and discussion of the use
of Legacy and allied products. As its name suggests, the LegacyFS group is
concerned with matters relating to the use of Legacy FamilySearch.

I have responded to your question in a new thread, for fear the answer (which
may be of interest to others) gets lost in the ridiculous flood of e-mails
under the old subject line. It is always best to start a new thread with an
accurate subject line when you have a query, especially now when many people
will be deleting a mass of e-mails unread.

The Legacy Users' Group is for general queries about and discussion of the
use of Legacy and allied products. As its name suggests, the LegacyFS group
is concerned with matters relating to the use of Legacy FamilySearch.

I have responded to your question in a new thread, for fear the answer
(which may be of interest to others) gets lost in the ridiculous flood of
e-mails under the old subject line.  It is always best to start a new thread
with an accurate subject line when you have a query, especially now when
many people will be deleting a mass of e-mails unread.

I apologize for yet another e-mail to the group.
My situation is different: I WAS a member of the LUG over 2-3  years ago;
somehow got dropped and could not get back on despite multiple efforts. That
until this week when I received Brian's initial e-mail Mon 22 Feb 2016 17:45:27

My question: What is the difference between the mailing list for

It seems now I am on both?

That's a statement, not a question.
"hundreds" is a slight exaggeration. Maybe 120 in all.

Re: [LegacyUG] Remove my name

2016-02-23 Thread Alan LaPearle GMAIL 56305

I am working on finding why this happens and get
it to stop.
