Re: [LegacyUG] Date won't change
Beth I just got in on this thread so perhaps this has already been discussed. I have never been able to enter dates as you describe and not get the same results as you do. Did you read Mike Frey's response? I can enter a date as 17 June 1938-1939 and the result will be precisely as entered. You could enter 17 June 1938 or 1939 which would probably be clear in meaning to you and Legacy doesn't seem to see that as a "Problem Date" but it would probably make it difficult, if not impossible, to do Searches and Calculations involving those dates. It would be preferable to enter 17 June 1938 in the "main" field and then add an Alt event for 17 June 1939. Legacy has default Events for Alt Birth, Alt Baptism, Alt Burial, Alt Death and Alt Marriage. (I found it necessary to add an Alt Cencus Event where people had been enumerated in 2 different places!) -- Jenny M Benson Legacy User Group guidelines: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp Archived messages after Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyusers.com/ Archived messages from old mail server - before Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyfamilytree.com/ Online technical support: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Help.asp Follow Legacy on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/LegacyFamilyTree) and on our blog (http://news.LegacyFamilyTree.com). I have had situations where the day and month are known but there is doubt on the year (normally created by a difference of Bishop's Transcripts compared to Parish Registers). How many children? There are screens for 1-5, 1-10 and 1-15. I have some with over fifteen and it adds a 'scroll' to get to the last 3 of 18. If needed it holds 16-30. I have no family with over 30 children from the same couple, but it should work the same. When you have a 'filled table' right click on ANY child and it will bring up the add choices. The problem isn't with just that year date, it is happening throughout Legacy. I type as 17 Jun 1938-9 or 17 Jun 1938/9and it shows up as 0009-17 Jun 1938 . Just the input of a year it does not change. All the date slots.. Born, Bapt, Died, Buried is effected. I have looked in all the options for dates, changed the date. I have tried changing: "Dates displayed as" "Month Format" "Separators for numeric dates" are checked on dash but changing this box to anything else does not fix the problem. "Input format " The "Double Date" cutoff is not checked. "Date Checking" is not checked. I have ran the File Maintenance/Check/repair. Still there. I have closed everything out, shut the computer down, but still there when I turn the computer back on. I am unable to enter any information into any date slot without this date mess showing up. Typing now and should be: 7 Jan 1694 but goes back to the 1693/94 each time. That's correct! In 1752, the calendar as used within the British Empire - and he USA was part of that at that time - changed from the Julian to the regorian. Conventionally, dates in the pre-1752 period ran from 25 March to the ollowing 24 March. Thus, after the calendar change, there was a problem in nowing which year a date in January and February was actually in. Was it 1693 r was it 1694. To help people know, a convention of double-dating was devised. his is what you see with a date like 7 Jan 1693/94. The fact that you're ntering the date as 7 Jan 1693/4 is neither here nor there, the conventional epresentation uses two digits for the second year, hence 1693/94. -- egards, ike Fry ohannesburg egacy User Group guidelines: ttp://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp rchived messages after Nov. 21 2009: ttp://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyusers.com/ rchived messages from old mail server - before Nov. 21 2009: ttp://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyfamilytree.com/ nline technical support: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Help.asp ollow Legacy on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/LegacyFamilyTree) and on our log (http://news.LegacyFamilyTree.com). o unsubscribe: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/LegacyLists.asp Legacy User Group guidelines: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp Archived messages after Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyusers.com/ Archived messages from old mail server - before Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyfamilytree.com/ Online technical support: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Help.asp Follow Legacy on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/LegacyFamilyTree) and on our blog (http://news.LegacyFamilyTree.com). Typing now and should be: 7 Jan 1694 but goes back to the > 1693/94 each time. That's correct! In 1752, the calendar as used within the British Empire - and the USA was part of that at that time - changed from the Julian to the Gregorian. Conventionally, dates in the pre-1752 period ran from 25 March to the following 24 March. Thus, after the calendar change, there was a problem in knowing which year a date in January and February was actually in. Was it 1693 or was it 1694. To help people know, a convention of double-dating was devised. This is what you see with a date like 7 Jan 1693/94. The fact that you're entering the date as 7 Jan 1693/4 is neither here nor there, the conventional representation uses two digits for the second year, hence 1693/94. -- Regards, Mike Fry Johannesburg Legacy User Group guidelines: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp Archived messages after Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyusers.com/ Archived messages from old mail server - before Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyfamilytree.com/ Online technical support: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Help.asp Follow Legacy on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/LegacyFamilyTree) and on our blog (http://news.LegacyFamilyTree.com). Beth, I guess that you mean the scroll bar on the right. Try going to Options>Customise>View and set child columns to "best fit" or to whatever number you prefer (bottom left of the screen). I use best fit and when the list is full I right click on the last name to add brother/sister. Re: [LegacyUG] Date won't change and slide for more children is gone
The slide will only show if you have more than 15 children (if you have selected the 3 column display). Do as Mike suggested and right click on any child, then "add brother" or "add sister". If that addition takes you over the 15 children then you should be able to see the slide. As far as I am aware I have never had "a slide" to open and add more children. Legacy starts with 1 column of 5 rows; when I want to add a 6th child I simply right-click on the children and select Add brother or Add sister. This child heads a second column. When I have added 10 children and wish to add an 11th I repeat as above. -- Jenny M Benson Legacy User Group guidelines: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp Archived messages after Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyusers.com/ Archived messages from old mail server - before Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyfamilytree.com/ Online technical support: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Help.asp Follow Legacy on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/LegacyFamilyTree) and on our blog (http://news.LegacyFamilyTree.com). [LegacyUG] Date won't change and slide for more children is gone
I am unable to change a birth date even after I delete what is there and add correct date, the orginial date will pop in again and delete the new date. And the slide that allows more children has dissappeared. Just not there. I am afraid I caused all this by trying to change an item I read on the list here. I also read how to 'reset' everything at once in Legacy. But now have forgot how.
