RE: [LegacyUG] Missing File

2013-02-08 Thread Brian L. Lightfoot
I thought that I’d chime in here for two reasons.

1. Transfer cables work as advertised. But email works just as well and
is free (email from one computer and then receive it on the other). If the
total file sizes are great, then consider spending $4.99 and get an 8 GB Flash
Drive that will work even better.

2. Another subject not yet mentioned from your original posts concerns
your file names. I noticed an example of some files that were appearing in your
missing multimedia file list were ending with a space. For example,
c:\Legacy\Pictures \Czarniecki Brian . jpg. Notice that there seems to be a
space between the “n” in Brian and the period before jpg. This can cause the
user all sorts of problems especially if you have your Windows settings to hide
extensions for known file types. I would suggest you use the Picture Center in
Legacy to rename any of these filenames that end with a space. Remember that if
you move or rename these multimedia file using only Windows, then Legacy
doesn’t know anything about what Windows did and will continue to look for the
old filename using the existing link that was previously created (probably the
source of your problem).

Sherry:- Thanks for your help. With your help and a little luck I was able to
clear the Master File Error, and reduce the 11 pages of Media Errors to just 4
lines, which I then cleared. The problem

made me review Volume 1 and 2 of the Training video's I purchased. I found I
did not know as much as I though.

What does Legacy think about using a Transfer cable to move Legacy from one
computer to another? I have been using that method for over a year.

Once again Thanks.

That means those links are not valid.

If you go to one of the Picture Galleries associated with one of the
items on the list, for example for

> Picture: Brian Czarniecki [1098]
> c:\Legacy\Pictures \Czarniecki Brian . jpg

Go to the Pictuer Gallery for Brian Czarniecki and see if there are
any "question mark" icons in lie of a thumbnail. If so, double click
on one of them to bring up the Find File window and select to let
Legacy search for the file.

If you go to the c:\Legacy\Pictures folder, are the pictures in the
report there?

>From the Help file:

List of Missing Files

You can produce a list of all the missing multimedia files in the
family file by selecting the option: Make a List of All Multimedia
Files before clicking the Proceed button. All missing files are
logged in a text file called Missing.txt in the Legacy folder. At the
end of the process, Legacy offers to open and display this list in
NotePad. The list also includes the name and RIN number of the
individual associated with each missing file.

Unlinking Unreferenced Multimedia Paths

When you link a multimedia file to someone or something in Legacy, the
path to the file is added to the Master Multimedia Path List. When
you remove a link, the path is not automatically removed from the list
because other files may be using it. If you would like Legacy to
check each path in the list and then remove the paths that are no
longer being used, select the Unlink unreferenced picture, sound,
video, and document paths option.

Re: [LegacyUG] Missing File

2013-02-08 Thread Sherry/Support
Gallagher,

Glad you got it resolved.

Programs need to be installed on another computer so the proper
Windows system files can be installed and registry entries can be
made.

On our website www.LegacyFamilyTree.com, go to Help Center > Tips >
Moving Your Family File from One Computer to Another for instructions.
You can also access this through Legacy by clicking on the "Tips from
the Experts" link in the Support section of the Legacy Home tab.

You could use the transfer cable to move the files over that are in
your Docs, Pics, Sounds and Videos sub-folders as well as web pages
you have saved, which are in the Web folder.

You can copy your .usr files over from the main c:\Legacy folder to
have the settings on the same computer.

Your customer number can be found in Help > General Information on the
current computer.

One other item you might check.

Go to tab. Then click on the . This will display all paths that Legacy uses to
find pictures from.

Verify first, if your pathname ‘C:/Genealogy Data’ is listed, and listed
correctly. If not you can click on the buton on the right to browse to
that folder and add it to the list. This will allow Legacy to relink to those
missing pics

If this is the problem.

Hope it helps.

Assuming your files aren't actually 'missing' but are in the folder
where you say you put them called Genealogy Data, you simply need to
browse to that location (from the window you are/were at called Master
Picture/Sound/Video/File Path List using the Add button and then click
OK. That will set the file-path and everything should link up again.

Jim,

Although you do not actually say so, I assume that your images are not showing
in you personal or event screens/reports etc.

If you moved your image files to Genealogy Data (I assume that you mean folder
rather than file) and then could not find them, then this could well be because
you haven't told Legacy you have moved them. Is this Location in the mulimedia
paths, if not then that is likely to be you problem.

Re: [LegacyUG] Missing File

2013-02-06 Thread James Gallagher
I will start from beginning:-When I click OPTIONS , then CUSTOMISE, I GO TO THE
CUSTOMISE SCREEN I then click LOCATIONS, then Test all Multimedia Paths, then
Check  all Pictures [etc]
comes up, I click on Proceed, Then I get the Error "Master Source Not Found"  I
click OK and then I get the MESSAGE  "one or More Multimedia files are Missing,
when I view the Multimedia List
every one in my files is on it so it seems.
I hope this Helps You.
I 've extracted my multimedia files and put them in "C" Legacy in a file I call
Genealogy Data. It a File I have used for years.

Re: [LegacyUG] Missing File

2013-02-05 Thread Wendy Howard
I don't think there is a separate file for Master Sources; to the best
of my knowledge they're included in the .fdb file.

Would you tell us more about what you're seeing, and what you expect to
see that is missing, please?

Kind Regards,
Wendy

Re: [LegacyUG] Missing File

2013-02-05 Thread Sherry/Support
I don't understand what you mean that "Legacy doesn't recognize it"?
The Master Source List is part of the Family File itself.

When someone says they've lost their Master Sources, that generally
indicates to us that one of the filters is selected and the sources
aren't visible in the list.

Are you getting any error messages? If so, we need to know the exact
error message you're getting.

Also, if you have Windows Vista, WIndows 7 or Windows 8, you need to
make sure Legacy is installed per the instruction at
www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/helpWindows87andVista.asp

Most likely you have one of the "Show Only" filters selected - take a
look and make sure there are no check marks in front of the filter
options.

It's on the right side of the Master Source List.
