More than that, it's a protocol for mail transport on the internet. Even
programmers who write list software are not free to change that. And those
who have tried have messed things up for a lot of people.

What "fixes" would they be?

It is not a matter of something not working the way it should that
prevents images being included in posts to this list - it is the rules
of this list itself.

There are ways to work around this restriction, by uploading any images
somewhere, and then including a link to them in your post.

Not a question, but a wish-for.
When entering things in Legacy, the curser usually anticipates and goes to the
next spot. When adding a photo, I always find myself typing (or rather NOT
typing) in mid-air. You select the picture to enter, hit open, which it does
at the correct spot in Legacy, providing you a place to type description and
other info. The curser is nowhere. Wish it would be at the Caption block,

Dave,

Use the Media Relinker in Tools.
1) the list of missing media it gives actually tells you where they are
missing from.
2) It has an option to "unlink missing media"

Look at the sources for those three individuals. The media may be linked to the

[LegacyUG] Test All Media Folders

2016-02-01 Thread Dave Johnson
Hey,

I have been cleaning up the names and locations of many of my images. So far
all but one has worked fine. For the one immigration image, I moved it into
another surname file. Then in the Individual's Information View, I modified
the Immigration Event to point to the new location for the image. After do so,
I ran the "Test All Media Folders" and this single file is still referenced for
three individuals. Having changed all the Immigration Events for all three
individuals, I ran the "Test All Media Folders" again and it still lists the
three individuals as referencing this image. I've thoroughly looked at every
piece of data and event to see where this file is referenced and I can find
none except the Immigration Event. So I closed Legacy, opened it up again and
ran the "Test All Media Folders" again. The three individuals still reference
this file. I have deleted the image and added it again. Same results. Does
anyone have any suggestions for me?

Thanks,

Dave

There has been a raft of messages in the last few days but you are
subscribed.

Another list member is also having problems. If you have a look in
the list archives you will be able to see what steps were suggested to
them.

Have you checked the spam folder in Outlook /and/ in Gmail? The
latter will send unfamiliar mail to the spam folder.

What problem is that, June? Sorry, I don't recall if you've posted before.

If it is that you are not receiving the LUG posts, write to Legacy
Support for assistance. It's a frequent problem that we (fellow Legacy
users) are unable to help you with.

If it's something else, please tell us some details about what's going
on and what you've done so far to try and fix it.

Lastly, if you want to reply, please send it to the list and not to me
personally (I'm sending a copy directly to you in case you're not
receiving the mail).

Testing to see if my re-subscription was successful, after mysteriously being
unsubscribed.

Wasn't a spam thing, I sent a test message before this and got a reply that I
did not have permission to post, therefore my account had been killed somehow.

No need to reply.

Sorry for the intrusion.

Start from the beginning, not the end. Did it ever leave your machine? If not
then your ISP or carrier could be at fault. Or, shouldn't say it really, finger
trouble?

John,
The list has received all three "Test" messages that you have sent. If you
are not seeing your messages and/or if you are not receiving messages from
the list, you will need to send an email to Legacy Support and request that
they subscribe you to the list manually.

I know that. I didn't mean the file location I meant where does Legacy
think the file is attached.

I've just caused a missing MM in my file. The list reads

"Picture: Individual Event: Source Detail: Marianne Rugeley Faux Powers
{D7.2786}
C:\Genes\Census Images\1841 England\HO107-2-5-13-21.jpg"

indicating that the image is attached to the Source Detail where I had
Sourced an Event for the named person.

Where does your list indicate the image was attached?

I run the "Test Multomedia Paths" option and get a "missing multimedia files"
list.
When I go to the person on the list, I can not find any request for the picture.
Where am I going wrong?

Not sure what you mean by "any request for the picture". Do you mean
you can't see where you added a picture to an Event/Source for that
person or you can't see where the picture is missing?

The list of missing files will tell you exactly where the missing
picture should be, eg "Picture: Individual Event: Source Detail: ",
so if you go that Event or Source and look in the Picture Gallery or on
the Multimedia tab you should see a big blue question mark where the
missing image should be.

It's possible that there is an Event picture missing but you are going
direct to the Individual's Picture Gallery from the icon on their
Information screen and you don't have "All Pictures" selected.

not receiving messages from the list.

Laura,

I'm sending a copy of this email to your email address. If you are not
receiving messages from the Legacy Group, you will need to send an
email directly to Legacy support. Explain your situation to them and
request that they manually subscribe you to the list. This has been an
ongoing issue with subscription and the folks at Legacy can not/will

Re: [LegacyUG] Test e-mails

2010-07-16 Thread Ron Ferguson
Kathy,

I take it that by "appropriate place" you mean the AKAs ie. the three headed
icon in Family View. I'm not sure that one can call any of these the
"preferred", although I guess one can apply this to the first on the list.

Not being LDS myself I have no idea of the search criteria for the NFS, but
it is possible for one to swap an AKA with the main name, and I expect that
as with other searches, Legacy will use whatever is in the main name field
for searching. So, to answer your question swap the AKA which you wish to
use with the one currently in that field.

Re: [LegacyUG] Test e-mails

The group was designed for discussion of Legacy Family Tree and the
add-on programs. Not for general genealogy questions.

If you have a question about how to work in Legacy or one of the
add-on programs, fire away - you'll get some great responses from the
helpful group here.

The problem is some people are a little frustrated right now because
they've had problems with their LUG subscription.

If you have any technical issues with Legacy or our LUG subscription,
please contact us directly at supp...@legacyfamilytree.com

Bruce,

Welcome!! I'm afraid that this list does tend to go off the rails a bit when
it is quiet, and it has been for a week or so. More often than not it is
very busy with multiple problems, which keep us busy - sometimes too busy! I
suggest that you stick with us, and you will find that a lot of valuable
hints, tips and advice are passed on.

Unfortunately, such advice etc. only arises as a result of enquiries and
recently there has been a lack of these.

Re: [LegacyUG] Test e-mails

2010-07-16 Thread Kathy Meyer
Good point! Haven't heard any questions/answers at all on the LUG,
which again makes me wonder if it's very active.

I have a question, I actually have loads of questions, but in the
interest of simply changing the subject here goes:

How do you handle alternate names? I enter all my alternate names &
spellings in the appropriate place and I know you can make one of
those names the "preferred"; is there a way for those to be more
obvious? Most of the time the different spellings are on different,
equally important documents and I want to be prompted to research
using all of them. I suppose I could change the items that show up on
family view to include the AKAs, but does anyone have a better system?

This is especially a concern with the NFS because I believe Legacy
uses the primary name as the one to search NFS for matches. So then
how would I search NFS for alternate names?

Thanks anyone/everyone who might give me a little insight :-) Kathy
