Thanks for the file TD. The unit is in peices right now. I'll put it
together, hook up a monitor and try loading the utility tomorrow. I was
lookikng over the chips, or the ones I could see that weren't covered by the
heat sink and all the grey/brown mylar, looking for holes or burned areas.
Though I couldn't find anything that looks bad.

I remember pulling the heat sink on my 50CT, and replacing the factory heat
sink... whatever it's called ...with heat sink grease when I checked to see
if I had one of the P120 CPUs (sadly no). So if I can find the grease again
(or buy more), I can look under the heat sink for damaged components.

How to get the mylar up, and reinstall it, to check components under it for
overheating is a mystery though. Ever deal with this?

Make sure that 'Panel Power On/Off' in the bios is set to Disabled.
Then hit the hairy light bulb, select the normal operation mode (probably
external power, full power mode) and click details.Tab to 'System' tab, and
,ake sure that the 'switch to resume mode when display is closed' is
*unchecked*.

Should work quite happily with the display closed (it will still turn off
the lamp so the display will last longer).

You would expect both these to be the same thing, but they don't seem to be
:)

There are differences in each that make it important to know which you used.

thanks! Must have missed the post somehow. Anyways, good information to know,
and now, we're down to finding out just what happens when one uses a disk
manager program with any OS and hibernates.

I'll update my FAQ soon on this. Looks like everyone had better avoid the
entire 1000-1100 cylinder area just to be perfectly sure if they don't manually
go through and find out the exact location of the hibernation data area.

Cool, I could use that screen closure switch off of the old
motherboard. It'd make my L70 finally complete and whole! =D

Jim,

I'm not that informed about your problem, and this suggestion may be way off
base. But would it help to turn off the "auto off" feature for disply and
HDD in the "Power Save Properties" in "Control Panel", or maybe try some
other settings there?

From: "Jim Hudd" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Subject: Re: Powering on with lid closed

Thanks Christian.
I've tried this and it's made no difference at all. When I close the
lid the machine still beeps and hibernates. While I'm on hibernating I have
a very peculiar problem. When I boot the machine up and then close the lid
the machine hibernates as expected. Once started again I try and hibernate
and the machine reboots but beeps as though it's hibernating. After a few
seconds (about the time hibernate normally takes) the machine has done the
Win98 MODE codepage stuff and then shuts off!
Any suggestions?
Jim Hudd.

Appears to come with an extra battery & mini-cardstation.

From: "George Derby" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Subject: Re: 110 and EPR / FDISK problems

Dear list

Can I say thanks to the person who emailed me about my 110 and EPR problem with USB.
I'm afraid I lost a batch of emails when I transferred them from the one computer to
another so have not got this person's details any longer. Just to say thanks for the
offer of the Win98SE and all your advice - I have my own copy of Win and have now done
this. The EPR now recognises USB no problem but I am still stumped to why fist
edition would not do this.

I have another problem - I have fdisked a new HD (using Win98 second edition boot
disk) only to find that the computer does not recognise the system - UNKNOWN it says
and not Fat32 as it should - any ideas? Does it matter? When I fdisked it previously
it said Fat32!

George
