Actually thats a little different because you wouldn't have had the power cord plugged
in at the time. I do know some bits of equipment resent having their battery packs
removed when external power is still applied but laptops generally aren't one of them.

I've had to pull the battery from my 50CT many, many, many times when
Windows locked up and hitting the reset button did nothing. I've had no
problems with my system of the type you have described because of doing
this.

OK I just realized he was talking the 110ct and not the 50/70ct on which I was basing
my description ... having said that I'd imagine it would be the same though, the
insides of all the Toshiba laptops I've seen (including some really old ones) all have
some clearly identifiable place to put the RTC battery (not to say its labelled but
that it looks like a hollow or a box or something like that molded into the plastic
thats just the right size for it). Anything from an expansive Tecra (which has a box
for TWO batteries, one is probably a backup to the RTC backup?) to a tight Portege
(which simply has a cutout in the circuit board on 2 sides and a plastic barrier on
the other 2) have such a position for the RTC battery. If the battery just looks like
its sitting on top of a circuit board and free to move around then thats most probably
NOT where it belongs.

Sounds like something more serious is wrong with your libby ... made sure everything
that could possibly come loose has been well seated? (dunno about anyone else but that
monitor/accupoint cable to motherboard connector looks REALLY flimsy). It could well
be that the act of removing and re-inserting the battery pack is enough to move
whatever is loose back into line. Next time it happens perhaps try flexing the libby
instead of pulling and reinserting the battery pack and see if that works (don't
worry, laptop circuit boards, and circuit boards in general, tend to take more
punshment than is generally thought, just don't apply CONTINUOUS pressure like having
a too-big hard drive under the RAM slots!).

Thats generally not a bad thing I would have thought ... how else would you swap
battery packs without shutting down?

Perhaps ... I think those batteries have 2 fuses in them (one is thermal and looks
like a diode I think), might be worth opening it up and getting out the multimeter ...

I think thats just because someone else had opened the libby and didn't know where the
RTC battery should go or forgot to tuck it in right and had reassembled too much of it
to be bothered fixing the problem. It should tuck down the FRONT of the circuit board
in that region and not on TOP of it (between the circuit board and the battery
'bulkhead' - there should be a little space molded into the circuit board surround for
it). You'll need to remove the top half of the libby to put the battery back where it
should be.

minutes ago)

If it looks like a few watch batteries wrapped in green shrink wrap with a couple of
leads coming out and ending in a well terminated plug it should be pretty good.

I'll make it quick the command is "cmd:unsubscribe" and not just "unsubscribe",
"cmd unsubscribe", "unsubscribble" or any permutation thereof - look at the footers
attached to every email if you want details. People who mess this up tend to become
the source of a great deal of humour in this channel but I think its growing a little
old now ...

[LIB] re: 110ct/memory upgrade/RTC battery

Subject: re: 110ct/memory upgrade/RTC battery

I just picked up a 110ct from e-bay and a 32 meg memory upgrade (Kingston
technology KTT-LBT/32)

I followed the instruction to take off the keyboard, but when I went to put
the memory module in the laptop, the RTC battery was where the module would
go. The memory module did not seem to lie flat on top of the battery.

I checked the archive and see no questions on this. I am wondering:

1) Is this the right memory module?
2) Is this where the battery should be (or did some one do a cheesy
replacement )?
3) Is the problem just me being a klutz?

any help would be appreciated.

[LIB] Battery problem

2001-10-19 Thread Tom Dixon

Date: Fri, 19 Oct 2001 16:16:48 -0600 (MDT)
From: Tom Dixon <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Subject: Battery problem

My Hi-capacity battery from laptopsforless.com for my 100CT appears to be
dead. When the power cord is plugged in, the battery light does not light up.
Machine won't boot, etc...

The battery was bought new about 4 months ago, and has not been used much.

What I think the problem might be:
My libby does not always "boot" when I turn on the power. I have to remove
the battery, reinsert, and turn on again, and then I see the bios screen,
etc.. and it boots.

Last time this happened, I pulled the battery WHILE the power cord was still
attached to the unit.

Could this have zapped the battery, or blown a fuse on that battery? My other
battery works fine in the unit.

Any help would be appreciated.

Just thought it might be worth searching for a clue in there

anyone want to sell, or can point to somewhere in NYC at slightly less than

What makes you think you've got it loaded at all? The only place I know of that loads
the panning support driver (on Toshibas in general) is c:\config.sys and certainly
with win98, ANYTHING that starts up (and that isn't wrapped in something else) is
mentioned in the msconfig utility (check the very last tab).
